La MacLaren, nota azienda britannica di prodotti per bambini, ha ritirato dal mercato americano un milione di passeggini con chiusura a ombrello. La cerniera laterale ha provocato l’amputazione di un dito a 12 bambini durante la fase di apertura o chiusura.

Il ritiro riguarda nove modelli, fabbricati in Cina, in vendita dal 1999: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno e Easy Traveller.

Chiedere il kit di sicurezza
Chiedete il kit per la messa in sicurezza delle cerniere laterali e, fino a quando non l’avrete montato, prestate la massima attenzione nelle operazioni di apertura e chiusura del passeggino. Il kit è formato da un triangolo da applicare sulla cerniera laterale che impedisce al bambino di infilare le dita nel meccanismo e, nello stesso tempo, non intralcia le operazioni di chiusura e apertura del passeggino.

Lo potete richiedere attraverso i negozi che vendono prodotti MacLaren o direttamente scrivendo uma email a info-it@maclaren.fr.

Perché in Europa non c’è stato il ritiro?
Gli stessi modelli sono in vendita anche nei paesi europei, ma secondo la MacLaren i prodotti non verranno ritirati, perché sono conformi agli standard europei di sicurezza (EN18888) che sono diversi da quelli americani.

MacLaren parla di “scorretto utilizzo del prodotto”, non di problema progettuale, ma la Direttiva europea relativa alla sicurezza generale dei prodotti (2001/95/CE) definisce prodotto sicuro un “prodotto che in condizioni di uso normale o ragionevolmente prevedibili [come aprire e chiudere un passeggino pieghevole ndr] non presenti alcun rischio”.

La chiusura a cerniera laterale può intrappolare le dita dei bambini sia nella fase di apertura sia in quella di chiusura del passeggino.

I had mentioned quite a few posts ago about working on the ASI INVADER Ferrari F430 for the 2009 SEMA YEAR. Well, unfortunately a plethora of things happened, schedulings and what not and was unable to complete it. BUT, not showing up to SEMA without the Ferrari was not an option. So To no avail the quality work and team that brought this together was GT Pro in conjunction with Mastermind (TR Trading). The Amazing thing is the whole project took about 2 weeks to build, and was actually put together in three days. Such quality work in a short amount of time is highly impressive and I am glad to see that the car was able to show up.

As I said before re bags, if you’re not a photographer, this stuff’s really pretty dull. In fact, even if you are a photographer, you may find you’re not really fired up by this post. But you might be. Especially if you’re looking for the perfect bag (impossible photography quest number 2…). So following my ‘All the (big) baggage…’ post last week, the story continues… (and after this, no more bag mentions, honest)

After three days of Billingham-world, I was fed up of the size and bulk of the bag – worth doing, interesting experiment etc, but the bag’s too big, I kept trying to carry too much in it, and it already weighed over twice what a Domke F2 does when empty, so I ordered a new F2 – I got the wax wear one, as there don’t seem to be any blue ones left in the UK. It’s really nice, simple, easy to work out of and doesn’t let me carry too much stuff, so I’m happy again.

If you look at the pics, the 12-24 is still the problem, in that it’s so wide, so I’ve ordered another, slightly larger insert which should sort this out.

I’m sure the ThinkTank bag is cool too – however, it’s main compartment is almost identical in size to the main Billingham 445 one, and I was already feeling as though I was working out of a great deep pit trying to find what I needed in the Billingham, so I’m glad to be back with something I’m comfortable with. If anyone has got experience of using the ThinkTank Urban Disguise 70, I’d certainly be interested in hearing your review…

I bought a couple of kits at this years Stitches and crafts and I decided to do some of them, starting with the babushka doll softie. Miss Allsorts by Sew your own.

The kit comes with the pattern, fabric and felt pieces,trim and thread, which is more to do up the eyes than to put the kit together, so you will need more thread.

The picture of Miss Allsorts on the front of the kit is super cute! So are the fabrics they chose to include in the kit!

It took me half a day to put her together. I have to improve my stitching technique as it looks quite uneven.

Bila memilih kelinci, amatilah beberapa hal sederhana yang dapat membantu memastikan bahwa hewan peliharaan baru Anda tersebut sehat. Berikut 10 hal sederhana yang perlu dijadikan panduan:

1. Lihat kondisi tubuh secara keseluruhan – seharusnya kelinci tidak gemuk maupun kurus, juga tanpa menderita pembengkakan.
2. Mantel kelinci harus rapi, tanpa gundul tambal sulam. Periksa yang mengotori bagian belakang, karena hal ini dapat menunjukkan adanya masalah dengan diare.
3. Lihat di telinga, harusnya berwarna merah jambu, bukan merah, dan bebas dari kotoran. Daun telinga tidak boleh rusak.
4. Mata harus terang dan bebas dari kotoran. Periksa mantel di sekitar mata untuk tanda-tanda noda basah atau robek.
5. Periksa hidung – itu juga harus bebas dari kotoran.

6. Cobalah untuk melihat gigi, mereka tidak boleh rimbun dan harus baik-rata. Juga memeriksa basah atau kusut bulu di dagu.
7. Amati pernapasan kelinci, yang harus tenang dan tidak berat.
8. Amati kelinci saat bergerak berkeliling – seharusnya tidak memiliki tanda-tanda lumpuh, kaku, atau keengganan untuk bergerak.
9. Lihat sekitar kelinci. Kelinci yang dipelihara dalam kondisi bersih dan tak berdesakan akan memiliki ketahanan terpapar stres dan penyakit.
10. Perhatikan bagaimana kelinci bereaksi terhadap orang – idealnya memilih kelinci yang relatif tenang saat didekati dan dielus

Tips:
Adalah bijaksana untuk menahan keinginan mengadopsi kelinci yang sakit-sakitan kecuali siap untuk kemungkinan pengobatan yang mahal dan kemungkinan patah hati.

Ketika membeli dari peternak, pastikan mereka adalah peternakan yang baik/ untuk tujuan tertentu.

La prochaine étape sera certainement de réaliser moi-même un émetteur-récepteur HF petite puissance en BLU. Je suis tombé sur le concept du BITX de Ashhar Farhan, VU2ESE, radioamateur indien pour ceux qui ne reconnaîtrait pas le suffixe de son indicatif. Il y a même un groupe Yahoo le concernant, mais apparemment plus accessible en ce moment depuis mon beau pays. Sunil VU3SUA propose des kits fabriqués en Inde à des prix très très intéressants. Il propose une option VFO DDS et même des kits générateurs SSB Bingo (ça va faire plaisir à F6BCU). Je pense que ça pourrait me faire un beau cadeau de Noël… je m’en vais négocier ça avec mon épouse dans les semaines qui viennent!

J’ai longtemps lorgné sur le Forty et j’avoue que j’aime ce que fait F6BQU et son approche pédagogique. Les kits QRP Hendricks sont aussi très intéressants et les documentations (en tous cas celle du BitX17A) sont un modèle de didactique et justifient à elle seule de passer par ce fournisseur. Malheureusement même si le prix est très correct (surtout face aux prix européens en ce moment), quelques dollars sont pour moi une différence non négligeable vu du Viêt-Nam. Je crois que mes voisins indiens sont plus indiqués.

Parece até falta de imaginação. Um dia depois da GM apresentar kits de personalização para o Celta, Corsa e Meriva, a Ford apresenta oficialmente um kit de personalização esportivo para o Ka.

Muitas concessionárias já comercializavam o tal kit desde o início do ano, mas só agora a Ford tornou o opcional oficial. Vai entender.

Chamado de ST, o kit é composto por saias laterais, apliques nos para-choques, aerofólio, ponteira de escapamento em aço inox e adesivos em alusão à versão. No interior, o carro recebe ainda pedaleiras de alumínio, soleiras e tapete confeccionado em carpete.  

O valor do conjunto é de R$ 342. Um preço bem mais justo que o cobrado pela concorrente GM, não acham?

 Se o comprador quiser ainda pode rechear o interior com bancos de couro. O valor sugerido para o item é de R$ 883. As rodas de liga leve do carro das fotos também entra como opcional.

Bryceness – Mr. Not-So-Nice Guy

A complete microcontroller development kit for little more than the cost of a bare chip? That’s what STMicroelectronics is promising with their STM8S-Discovery: seven dollars gets you not only a board-mounted 8-bit microcontroller with an decent range of GPIO pins and functions, but the USB programmer/debugger as well.

The STM8S microcontroller is in a similar class as the ATmega328 chip on latest-generation Arduinos: an 8-bit 16 MHz core, 32K flash and 2K RAM, UART, SPI, I2C, 10-bit analog-to-digital inputs, timers and interrupts and all the usual goodness. The Discovery board features a small prototyping area and throws in a touch-sense button for fun as well. The ST-LINK USB programmer/debugger comes attached, but it’s easy to crack one off and use this for future STMicro-compatible projects; clearly a plan of giving away the razor and selling the blades.

The development tools are for Windows only, and novice programmers won’t get the same touchy-feely community of support that surrounds Arduino. But for cost-conscious hackers and for educators needing to equip a whole classroom (or if you’re just looking for a stocking stuffer for your geeky nephew), it’s hard to argue with seven bucks for a full plug-and-play setup.

Over the last few years I have definitely seen a rise in the number of small boutique hotels. Probably because I entered the hotel industry and became more aware, or maybe the trend is such that small boutique is now the vogue?

In London, I believe that Kit Kemp definitely made an impact on the genre of boutique style hotels, as did Anouska Hempel. They both created fantastic hotels, which felt like a home away from home, but with that touch of glamour and all the attention you require and of course deserve! Both very different in style, but each very intimate and luxurious.

Hempel styles the hotel in a very minimalistic design, using “the elegance of simplicity” (as stated on the hotel website). The entrance is very warm and welcoming with carefully selected pieces, all of which are very carefully placed. Walking into the rooms at the Hempel Hotel one does not feel like touching anything; as beautiful as everything is it’s almost a museum like style. Everything looks so perfect and set in its place, it feels like a great dishonour to the designer to move things out of place.

On the contrary Kemp’s style is more homily and involves lots of different pieces being almost effortlessly put together. For me, walking into a Firmdale hotel feels like going to a well-travelled aunt’s home. There are fascinating artefacts, books and fabrics everywhere. Clearly all is very well thought out and designed, from which light to place the wing chair and desk under to what fabric and old china plate can sit together. However, even though the interiors are given all that consideration there is not that feeling of being staged. Clearly I am a fan of Firmdale, but I am afraid of the group churning out another “Soho”, or “Pelham”. This would, in my opinion, defeat Firmdale’s aim of exclusivity.

So boutique hotels, as most other hotels, obviously vary in style. But what makes a hotel boutique? Is it just the design? The attention to detail? The luxury? In my opinion it is probably a combination of all these, plus a small size helps with the intimacy and also the lack of branding. Although on the branding topic there are probably various views. Most hotel groups seem to put their stamp on their property in some way; either by using the similar signage, having the magazines in a certain order on the desk or just having a “style”. However, to keep it boutique and unique, I really think the branding, or that stamp, is not required. This I really believe about the Fox and Anchor; run by the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin group it is a pub with rooms, but I think it can definitely be classified under the boutique hotel category. However, in my opinion the originality of the hotel is let down, not by the design, which is brilliantly thought out and well planned, from door handle to skirting finish, but by the branding. It is all too much like a mini Malmaison or Hotel du Vin; from the similar font on the food menus to the same roll top baths in bedrooms. In my opinion the property should have been standalone and it really would have made even more of a statement, but then these are small details not noticed by many. Nevertheless it is a well designed pub with rooms, a complete transformation from the original building thanks to the in house interior design team in charge! The rooms are all named after areas around the City and with the nearby meat market in mind. Artwork was especially selected to complement each room, so once again a lot of thought went into every detail.

Somewhere warm and cosy and VERY close by, after all those pints!

The opposite to the Fox and Anchor with branding is a very small hotel I only discovered last week – 40 Winks.  The branding here is non- existent and unlike most hotels nowadays (especially in London) there are not even televisions in the room; so really going back to what hotel rooms are for!! This is truly an individual boutique hotel. Designed by David Carter, this hotel has a great collection of diverse objects and has a very intimate feel. This is most probably due to only two bedrooms being available for occupancy. It is an old townhouse, restored fully to ensure that its true grace is flaunted. The collection of furniture has been carefully selected and placed to enhance the beauty of each room and of the furniture itself. The whole style is very bohemian, well suited with being situated in the artsy end of East London.

In front of the looking glass…Do I look beautiful dear? Of course!

So boutique hotels are definitely all the rage now and confidently for the future, but hopefully they won’t turn into “another” one of those hotels and they will be kept unique and most importantly …boutique!

Hola a todos,
ya son 10 días y todavía faltan (si nada más se tuerce), unos 20.
Salimos de Isabela y pasamos la noche flotando a la deriva; no había viento.
Al segundo día igual. Al tercero, más de lo mismo pero con la diferencia de que tampoco teníamos motor al descubrir una fuga en la bomba de agua salada.
Buscamos el kit de recambio que compramos en España. Bien, encontramos el problema: un retén destrozado. Buscamos el recambio: vaya por Dios, no coincide y entonces nos cagamos en el mecánico que nos vendió el kit.
Lanzamos un “e-mail de emergencia” a nuestro equipo técnico de tierra (Oriol y Xavi) y nos dan muchas ideas además de ánimos. El viento sigue sin aparecer y nos empezamos a agobiar e incluso, empezamos a racionar el agua por si las moscas. Nos ponemos en contacto con la rueda de los barcos que hacen el mismo rumbo que nosotros y también nos dan ideas. Realizamos el arreglo de fortuna y listo!! hay motor pero entonces se apaga ya que hay como una pasta blanca en el gasoil que obstruye los inyectores…entonces nos cagamos en el “pájaro kuna” que nos vendió en Porvenir el gasoil con agua. Purgamos, cambiamos filtros y otra vez Constantino en marcha. Y ya con los ánimos más calmados, seguimos a la espera de que Eolo se ponga a trabajar.
Octavo día, a las 3 de la madrugada, empezamos a oír a Lolo (nuestro generador eólico) funcionar. Salgo corriendo a la rueda; abro la génova y me pongo a rumbo… uuuauuhhhh! que emoción sentir la vibración de Talula en mis manos a través de la rueda; aumentamos poco a poco de velocidad y en unas horas hacemos ya una punta de 8 nudos.
Y así ya llevamos 3 días, navegando con un mar un tanto desordenado pero moviéndonos.
