Mytop 5 lists and WHY: Top 5 Kombi of all time: 1. Tunnels 2. Downtown 3. Ninety-nine 4. Taka and To

Mytop 5 lists and WHY:

Top 5 Kombi of all time:
1. Tunnels
2. Downtown
3. Ninety-nine
4. Taka and Toshi
5. (Dont have one yet)

Tunnels never did manzai, and started off more as a monomane/gag duo. They were incredibly popular in the 80s and managed to obtain over 30% of the ratings nationwide with their shows (which is incredibly hard, for any show) and having seen their earlier works and Tunnels Mina-san okagedeshita, and Kuwazugirai, I can say I love those shows more than Downtown’s gottsu ee Kanjii and Gaki no tsukai. I love all 4 shows, but somehow I cannot imagine Gaki no tsukai without Matsumoto. Or Hamada. If either left, i dont think i would want to watch the show. That includes Heyx!3, their reliance on each other is amazing (as in a great bond) but it seems to say that we are only good as a team, and not solo. I love how Downtown takes punishments in their shows (theyre always the butt of the joke two, even though these two are incredibly big names in the show business). The second thing is, I love manzai too, but i just havent seen enough / understood enough to like it more than Tunnels work (which is understable without Japanese)

Ninety-nine is there solely because of Morning Musume and their connection with Tsunku, that and Okamura dances funny

Taka and Toshi are incredibly funny! Their manzai skits are…truly hilarious, though they tend to rely on their props to really cause the imagination to stir. But its amazing, Tunnels got to play pranks on them too! You can see Taka and Toshi skits on youtube (I may have linked to them in the past)

Top 5 Comedians of All time
Note: I like Japanese comedians, manzai and owarai above ALL other forms of comedy…which is why this list only has Japanese comedians.

1. Ishibashi Takaaki
2. Hitoshi Matsumoto
3. Masatoshi Hamada
4. Takashi Okamura
5. Tamori

1. Ishibashi Takaaki
I had my first true encounter with Japanese, and I can say hes been the reason why I even like it
Taka-san is outrageously funny, ridiculous at times, yet hes still a very sensible and well respected man. Hard to explain, until at least you watch him at work. Hes INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and smart, frequently citing a lot of western and Japanese references (which is funny when they relate or you can understand where hes coming from). His work in Tunnels (the comedy duo) is legendary, being very naturally funny (more so than Downtown in Gotsu ee Kanjii, to me least least) although he never really did true manzai.

His face expressions are amazing, and basically he can pull off any kind of emotion on his face at any time…he should really be an actor. His dress sense is very conservative, but to me its clean and respectable. And with Taka-san, I feel like Im laughing at his expressions AND his actions/ what he says. He is just so straightforwardly funny, and he is incredibly daring, referring to different things, touching female artists, asking for their numbers, showing the audience his knowledge of the video equipment, etc . His friendships with many famous people such as Nakai-kun, Matsuda Seiko, Tamori, Morning Musume etc are envious and it always seems like many positive things come out of it. His way of life (getting married, then having a child, being a family man, etc has also been positive to me), and hes like 180cm tall.

Even after their Tunnels era ended (in terms of popularity) hes been going well doing solo work, something that I cannot imagine Downtown (and neither can they) going solo. His successful transition is a reflection of his ability

Simply put, I LOVE HIM!!! Hes the best comedian

2. Although Taka-san is very much above everyone else in this list, Matsumoto comes 2nd (though not TOOO close).
Heres where I explain why Taka-san is my #1 vs why Matsumoto is my 2nd. So basing it on their comedic abilities alone, I think Taka-san and Matsumoto are pretty much even and equal. Their quick, their ad-lib skills are amazing and they can think of a reference / retort /challenge (all humourous of course) to anything. The thing that gives Taka the edge is that because of being in Tunnels and doing monomane and ippatsu gags a lot, he has more control of his face and can pull of a billion expressions that Matsumoto cant. So basically, as neither do manzai [anymore] and I see them mostly on Utaban and Heyx!3, Taka-san is the better of the two. This and the above list on Tunnels vs Downtown will explain why. I really do like Matsumoto though, and its hard to say, if I could understand Japanese and manzai, where his position would be (though I would understand Tunnels works more too)

3. Hamada is well respected and I like how hes angry, scary and totally sadistic. hes regarded more as the head of the group for Downtown, for various reasons I can see (such as taking the lead) but he is just not as naturally funny as matsumoto or Taka…even not doing his tsukommi role.

4. Okamura is only here because of the morning musume relations and acts he has done, otherwise I would of liked to put Sanma here (though I havent really understood what he was talking about)

5. Tamori is here for his amazing ability to renact a lizard and freak out Matsuda Seiko and Tunnels!

In fond, cum spune Bob Davis pe sensesofcinema:

“the audience members may work to load into Kitano’s characters emotions from their own personal (and personally significant) storehouses of sentiments. Each movie becomes, then, one long Kuleshov experiment.”

As promised, here are my pictures from Kobe. The post is split into 2 parts – Kitano-cho and Meriken Park & Kobe Harborland. Kitano-cho is located just north of Sannomiya. Sannomiya is one of the main shopping districts within Kobe and is directly connected to Osaka by rail. Kitano-cho developed as a residential area for merchants and foreigners shortly after Kobe opened for foreign trade as a port-town. As a result the buildings in the Kitano-cho area have western architecture. They are open to the public for viewing, fees vary but I believe entrance is around 700 Yen. You will also find a shrine and gift-stores selling luxurious Kobe sweets as well as damn good ice-cream!!

Meriken Park and Harborland are located to the south of the city and are right next to eachother. I recommend going at night as the lighting is fantastic. Mosaic is a shopping mall located at Harborland and there you’ll find the typical clothes stores, restaurants, cinema, games arcade and more gift-shops. Kobe makes a brilliant day-trip if you’re staying in the Kansai area, I really recommend checking it out!

Kitano-cho

They had some really delicious-looking cakes and other desserts but unfortunately they were a tad bit expensive… I had their ice-cream though, great stuff!!

Director: Beat Takeshi (Takeshi Kitano) Genre: Gangster Country: Japan/US Summary: Yakuza member Yam

Director: Beat Takeshi (Takeshi Kitano)

Genre: Gangster

Country: Japan/US

Summary: Yakuza member Yamamoto (Takeshi) is forced to leave Japan after the yakuza is broken up by the death of his boss. He goes to Los Angeles and meets up with his half brother, then decides to take over the drug sales of the Mexican mafia and re-establish his crime empire in America. Along the way, he picks up a protege (Omar Epps) and earns the ire of the Italian mob.

Impressions: Well, it’s another Takeshi Kitano movie. That man loves to direct, probably more than he enjoys acting. If you don’t know, Kitano’s been in a shit-ton of films. Notably, he directed Hanabi, Kikujiro, and the remake of Zatoichi (all Japanese films). He’s acted in movies like the Battle Royale series and Johhny Mnemonic. He’s got like 50 movies listed on Wikipedia.

If Brother had been successful at the box office, Takeshi would have expanded to making American features. Unfortunately, it was not well-received and afterward Takeshi said he would not make any more films outside Japan. It’s too bad, because he is a good director. However, Brother is not one of his better works.

Takeshi is notorious for being a silent, stoic actor, and it’s obvious here, where Takeshi has what amounts to maybe a hundred words of dialogue onscreen in a two-hour film. He smiles maybe three times and never moves more than a twitch to reach the gun hidden in his coat. My criticism is: While he comes off looking cool, it is at the expense of his acting prowess.

There are a lot of of scenes in the film that follow the Japanese trend of being incredibly patient. In nearly all of the Japanese films I’ve watched, there are long, drawn-out moments of silence and inaction that force the viewer to evaluate the film or go get popcorn. I don’t really appreciate this trend but I understand it’s importance to the culture. This movie might have too many of them, though. There is a scene where a bunch of yakuza are playing basketball for about four minutes but repeat their motions in such a way that you watch the same shot occur maybe thirty times in one take.

Stuff like that really detracts from the film. Also, besides Epps (from House fame) and Takeshi, no one really knows how to act in this film. Or rather, they don’t get the chance to. There really isn’t much dialogue in the film and the action occurs so quickly that you can’t take stock of any character’s abilities. I wish that Takeshi would give his actors more to work with; it would definitely help his appeal with American audiences.

2 out of 5

Was passiert? Warum?

.

äußerst wichtig unvoreingenommen an entsprechende Werke heranzugehen.

So repräsentieren bspw.

Takeshi Kitano è molte cose; come definirlo?

In ogni caso buona visione!

http://www.mysoju.com

Aquiles y la Tortuga (Achilles and the Tortoise)
Director: Takeshi Kitano
Intèrprets: Takeshi Kitano, Kanaki Higuchi
Nota: 6,5

Something unusual for Takeshi Kitano – a movie in which people aren’t killing themselves

Something unusual for Takeshi Kitano – a movie in which people aren’t killing themselves and fighting all the time, but peacefully walking along the paths of their lives and despair. Of course yakuza’s included, but hey – what would be a movie by Kitano without ‘em?

“Dolls” is one of the most touching movies I’ve ever seen. It’s almost static for 2 hours but still those static moments are not boring, they’re like paintings instead. After this movie I’ve had the most beautiful dreams in my life.

The plot isn’t obvious and isn’t complex at the same time. We’re given three stories which aren’t connected for the first sight, but if we’d like to look deeper they’re fitting themselves perfectly. The first one is about a guy who left his girlfriend to marry a daughter of the boss of his company, everything ’cause of his parents who wanted him to do just that. The day of the wedding though his former girlfriend was found and transported to mental hospital for she tried to commit suicide. He’s running away from the wedding, from his life and wandering with his ex-g/f through the world as leashed beggars.
The second story is depicting the tale of an old yakuza boss who’s near death probably and his choice to pursue his career instead of loving the girl that loved him much. The girl promised him when he left her to be at the same bench every sunday (or saturday) with lunch, waiting for him. But he never came. We see him as an old man visiting the place and seeing here there, with lunch for him… And the story goes on, what you’d see watching the movie.
Third one is about a hardcore fan of a j-pop starlet which is involved in a car accident and thus beeing suddenly ugly deciding to quit her career and isolate herself from fans. He though can’t stand it and remembering her face is slicing his eyes to remember her as she were and to meet her even though she said she wants nobody to see her. When he can’t see, he can do it, so it seems as though it’s solution.

Those three stories are simple but moving. I understood ‘em my way and I’m sure everyone’d understand them absolutely different. I get them as stories about the imaginary lack of choice those people have, how their worlds are narrowed to the little shells of material pleasures and how this affects all the people around – people who care about them or people who hate them. There is no ending to the self-speeding circle of destruction all of them are carrying around.

The movie’s obviously about love, but in the vein of all Takeshi’s films I’ve seen – it’s a road movie. We see the seasons changing, characters walking around in pursuit of god knows what yet still they seem to be on the quest for redemption of some kind, or maybe salvation from earthly misery, but well… It seems a bit too much.

“Dolls” is a beautiful movie, groundbreaking I’d say, but somehow motionless. Emotionally distsurbing too, definite must-see for people who aren’t watching movies to eat popcorn throughout.

The longest-running japanese TV drama with many side-made movies and merchandise has been remodeled

The longest-running japanese TV drama with many side-made movies and merchandise has been remodeled by famous actor/director Takeshi ‘Beat’ Kitano in 2003. It reminds me of some damn foolish american movies such as Liberator 15 or Rambo 41.2 and stuff, but still I give much credit to the japanese filmmakers so instead of complaining about “what interesting thing can you do with such a boring piece of art” I gave it a try.

And I’m delighted. Zatoichi is not a movie anyway similar to what I’ve got used to by the american cinema, it’s completely different yet still “eatable”. Kurosawa’s pretty hard to watch during a dinner ’cause of his attention demanding long pauses between action, but here it’s action all the time. Zatoichi’s wandering through the world with his walking-stick-sword and though he’s blind he’s slicing rows of enemies without a problem. The movie’s not a complex thing to be amazed by, not even some intelligent philosophical samurai movie but everything you’d expect by some “spaghetti-samurai” movie redone in the XXI century.

The plot is simple, characters are strong and the movie is great for watching alone as much as with somebody else with coca-cola and cigarettes included.

Plus the scenes of death and fight are not the same here as in the western cinema. If you’re going to fight somebody important, then you’d fight him at the end of the movie for sure but still you wouldn’t fight him for 20 minutes as if he was some semi-god-fucker (like in movies with jean claude van damme), but you’d slice his guts in three or four cuts and it’ll be over.
But the watcher’d be delighted.

Kitano blew my brain off with his idea for lessening the damage cause to the viewer because of the blood flowing everywhere in the movie. He wanted it to look as if the flowers were blooming out of the dying enemies, and damn he did it. It’s interesting and you’d watch people die in this movie with artistic pleasure.
Kinda crazy, but artistic.

Damn great, recommended. 8+/10
