Kite flying is no longer limited as child’s play but has evolved into a favorite activity for adults as well. It is thrilling to actually see a kite soar high above, waving gently above the tree tops. Interestingly, this simple idea has been combined with another activity to produce a new extreme sport. Combining the propulsive power of the kite and a surfboard, you have kite surfing.

Kitesurfing is a new form of extreme sport which is becoming very popular. This is an exciting why to escape the boring schedules of everyday living. The kite is used to pull the surfboard across the water.

Kite flying in itself is exciting enough, but when you combine it with another sport, the results can be totally explosive. In fact, back in the 1800’s, the Chinese has been using kites to propel carts and ships across unknown territories of the wide open seas. Initially it started as an alternative to horse power due to the harsh horse tax.

The potential of the kite was expanded when the creation of Kevlar and Spectra kites in the 1970’s. The turn of the decade witness the new development in the way kite is used and now we see them propelling snow skis, roller skates, canoes ice skates and water skis. November of 1984 saw a new development in the kite surfing industry – inflatable kites. The ‘Wipika’ was created in 1997.

This creation has inflatable tubes and a convenient inflatable bridled system that help it to be re-launched. In 1997, kite-boards were developed and this activity became a mainstream sport. Now schools teaching kitesurfing have also emerged.

Get an instructor to guide if you are starting out, it makes learning so much easier. One needs to know the right way to launch kites, to keep it flying and how to manage the lines. It is easy to misunderstand these complicated pieces of apparatus so a lesson from a certified instructor would be very wise indeed.

After the students have learned kitesurfing techniques they must learn body-dragging. Body drag pull the body upward as board surfing pulls the body forward. To embark in this sport, one needs to be prepared to invest more than 3000 just to buy the additional equipments such as gloves, wet suits and other peripherals.

Kitesurfing can be dangerous so it is restricted to some locations for safety reasons. This is not a concern though as there are many places you can go to kitesurf. Lastly, check your equipment and apparatus is up to the job and obey all the safety advice given at each location if you want to avoid unnecessary accidents.

Flying kites is an excellent hobby that anyone can take up and enjoy. It is not only enjoyable but can be an easy way to get some good exercise and enjoy the weather. There are two main types of kites that you might want to consider purchasing when you decide you want to invest in a kite, stunt kites and power kites. Stunt kites are a good choice for beginners as they can fly without too much support and can perform a number of tricks while in the air. This is perfect for beginners as there is a good chance the kite will come crashing down a few times, and it will remain resilient to breakage. Power kites and built for and can maintain a lot of power. It takes much more strength to control a power kite so it is recommended that you practice with a stunt kite before moving up to the power kite levels. Some of these kites can reach speeds upwards of 50 miles per hour and can be used for many purposes. They are much more fragile than stunt kites, so you need to be a little more careful. Thus, beginners and children should not invest in a power kite unless they are sure they can handle the speed and the power.

There are obviously some conditions that are ready made for flying kites and some that you should avoid. Kits are not a seasonal hobby though, which is a major benefit. You can essentially fly kites all year round as long as the day’s weather conditions permit. You want to wait for days that have steady wind. Days with fluctuating wind can be just as frustrating as days with no wind at all. It is best to find an open area where the wind can flow freely and provide you with as much consistent wind as possible. Perfect kite flying spots are beaches and open parks.

Flying kites does not come without any dangers. There are some safety precautions that you want to take before involving yourself in this hobby or going out to fly a kite. It is very important to stick to open areas that are far away from power lines, railways and roads. Try to avoid other people as much as possible as well, because powerful kite lines can cause serious injuries to innocent bystanders. Two other very important safety rules are to never fly a kite in a storm or when there are signs that a storm is coming and never tie yourself to a kite in any circumstance. You never know when the wind or weather could change without warning and you could endure serious injuries.

How to choose a kite
1. According to yourself.
Don’t play big kites or sports kite if you are not young. You have to put forth your strength when you fly and control these kites. It is easy to hurt you. 2. Balance

Usually double strings are used on kites. Their length should be two times that of the kite. They should be vertical.
4. Material
Soft and dedicated silk is the best material. It is white and translucent. Some silk kites don’t feel smooth. They will make a big noise if you shake them. Such silk has been processed. It is easy to break down. Non-woven fabrics, nylon and plastic can be also used for kites.
5. Skeleton
Traditional kites are made of bamboo. You should check whether there is burr. You should also check whether it is even.

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan’s next is a Spain based film, for which the news is that the actor will be once again working alongside a foreign actress. Till now the latest rumour was that the actor had an off screen dalliance with ‘Kites’ co-star Barbara Mori, Mexican actress.

This Spain based Zoya Akhtar’s flick is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani and also stars Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol. Riteish revealed that the search for the leading lady is on.

Farhan said, “We need a fresh face either from London or New York for Hrithik in Zoya’s film. Hrithik has been very co-operative by accommodating dates for this film.”

The film’s filming will start on April 5th. Also Farhan will start directing Don 3 from September 2010, therefore Zoya’s film had to be completed before that.

Bien, hay  dos versiones, la versión  hindi que es de dos horas y seis minutos, y la versión internacional (inglés). La versión india estuvo lista el 30 de septiembre, 2009. Sin embargo, la versión inglesa es supervisada por el director de Hollywood Brett Ratner. Ratner es un amigo mío, y él formatea la versión inglesa según la susceptibilidad Occidental.

¿Esta es la primera vez que un director de hollywood estará “redactando” una película de Bollywood?

Sí. Ratner tiene películas como Rush Hour 1, 2 y 3 a su crédito. El ha dirigido a  “Family Man” y  ha hecho episodios de “Prison Break”  la serie de televisión. Para conseguir alguien que es tan  buscado en Hollywood  de un paso y supervise personalmente Kites es algo muy prestigioso.

¿Ha puesto usted una fecha de  liberación?

Nosotros no hemos puesto una fecha de estreno. Debe salir en  el verano del 2010. Vuelo a Los Angeles el 29 de noviembre para una reunión con Ratner. La banda sonora para la versión inglesa también están hechos allí. Anunciaré una fecha sólo después de que sepa que el progreso ha sido hecho. Kites  es una de mis  estrenos más ambiciosos. Estoy esperando estrenar casi 2.500 copias mundialmente.

¿El rumor es que Hrithik está ansioso por una carrera en Hollywood?

Hrithik está muy feliz con el trabajo que él hace aquí. Today was our family day. We went to the shops. It was very fun. Because there is a 2-dollar shop. This is a shop that sells every single thing in it for 2 dollars. I have much more than 2 dollars so I can buy lots of things. Its cheap but its awesome. I bought a cap gun and 144 caps. It definitely works! And I bought 4 special puzzles that are very hard to undo.

After the shops I went home and took my very big kite and Dad and me, and Kayleigh and Charis went to the field by the lake to fly it. I flew my kite. It was very fun but the problem was that it was very hard to fly because there was no wind. Sometimes there was a bit of wind and it did fly. Silly Kayleigh got her kite tangled up. Charis was trying to catch the kites. Here is a picture of my kite and us playing on the field.

Not had swine flu yet? Keep it that way, it sucks!! Kite surfing lessons have still been carried out buy the KSK’s team and our Student Session to Zaafarana continued as planned, gutted I didn’t get to join the session to Zaf but we still had two IKO instructors for the group and everyone has been having a blinder, wind everyday! Brighton, Shoreham, Lancing and South Coast kitesurfing in general has been a challenge in terms of kite surfing lessons because there’s not as much light any more and the wind has either been too light or too strong; Kitesurfkings are not giving up on you! We are still teaching and will continue to do so. Lessons are cancelled for tomorrow as 60mph winds and 15ft swell is not what we’re looking for but it could be good times for experienced kite surfers.

Hope to see the South Coast massive representing South Coast kitesurfing tomorrow, it’s gonna be big! If you’re still early days or still learning to kitesurf (hopefully we’re all still learning – hope you know what I mean) then just hang out and save it for Sunday as it could be a lot calmer.

13:00 hours. Baghdis province, Afghanistan. The body of a soldier, submerged in a river in Western Afghanistan, is found. There is another missing. Both are from the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division. Eight Afghans, including four soldiers, three policemen and an interpreter are killed in either the NATO air-strike or in the fighting that broke out between Afghan and American troops. It lasted for hours.

He puts the paper down. Folds it neatly on his thigh and looks out the window to the cleanly cut grass, the well-managed trees lining the sidewalks, the women pushing strollers down the promenade. Hears the wind rushing through the trees, civilians carousing the bodegas of deep Brooklyn, the laughter of the children as they wait for the bus to pick them up or walk hand-in-hand with their mothers or fathers to the doorsteps of the school. The civilian cars, the airplanes, and the helicopters all carry on as normal.

“These are passing stories,” he thinks, “whims and fancies of newspapers and radio talk shows, 24-hour streaming news channels or regularly updated websites. But pause. Take it in. Allow the story to mean more than ‘bad-news’ or ‘distant suffering’.”

He looks out the window again. Sees the sidewalks have been blown apart, chunks of steel cables lay strew across the ripped up grass. The trees are on fire or already singed, the school buses lay flat on their sides and there are children inside. They are crying. He sees the school down the street has been blown apart, the chalkboards dangle from particle board fibers over the cavernous sides of the decimated building, ruled cursive paper flutters in the smoky winds, pieces of the American flags get caught in embers of mangled civilian cars. He smells the burning of rubber, the smell of a gas that he can’t place. There is silence save for the distant cries and crackling fires of exploded cars, loose electrical wires, and burning buildings.

He knows it’s not like this. It’s worse. There are more smells, more gruesome sights, the kinds of things that keep you up at night, wake you in the morning, grace you with their darkened presence throughout the day. They are the kind of things that can’t be forgotten because they are marked into your skin, wedged in your memory. They are the kinds of things that remind you it’s not too far from the shores of America to Afghanistan and this is harrowing and best forgotten.

He stops. There is more to this, even more disturbing. He allows himself to stop thinking of these people as soldiers, as men and women, Americans or Afghans, imagines them as children playing in the streets of Kabul or Brooklyn. Maybe with kites, maybe with basketballs, children’s things, fun and carefree. But it’s the 1980’s and Afghanistan has another foreign power in its midst. The Russians, under the leadership of Leonid Brezhnev, remain until the late 1980’s when they leave under the direction of Gorbachev. The children in Kabul are immersed in war while in Brooklyn, there are children immersed in the class warfare of the Reagan-era but it’s different, less immediate in its death and destruction. Maybe for some it is not. There is funding of the Taliban rushing in from the U.S. to battle the Russians in the midst of the Cold War. Over 1 million Afghans are killed, 1.2 million disabled, 3 million maimed or wounded. What were their names, where did they come from, what were their stories?

He thinks long and hard on the missing American soldier, thinks about the man found in the river. What were their names, these men and women who gave their lives to protect America or Afghanistan? What was it that brought them to the doorsteps of the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Taliban? He looks out the window, the sidewalks are back in place, the schools back in order. The trees stand tall, full of the orange and yellow colors of Fall and he watches as a child plays with a soccer ball in the street below. “What war,” he wonders, “will this child fight?”

I used to be a big Kite Flier in those good old days of innocence. Imagine wearing shorts that were far too short for a tall eight year old like me. Imagine crushing and grinding ‘tube-lights’ and ‘bulbs’ into fine powder and mixing them with colour and maida and concocting a ‘maanja’. Imagine applying them religiously on a large thread roll as if your life depended on it. Imagine tying this ‘maanja’ thread to a really noisy ‘Kite’ and letting the big bird soar through the skies. Imagine cutting another ‘Kite’ and jumping with joy and almost falling off the terrace. And even when you are not flying Kites, imagine chasing and running and chasing and running after other Kites that seemingly took light years to fall into your hands after getting cut five hundred feet above you. And all this when I was wearing shorts that were far too short for a tall eight year old like me.

This quite frankly went on till I was thirteen-fourteen I guess. After which there were numerous other interests. Including the two legged ‘Kites’ with pink ribbons tied to two black tails popping out from the back of their heads. Ah! Those were the days.

But a few months ago, when I took my four year old daughter to the Marina beach in Chennai, she wanted to fly a Kite. So I bought her a colourful one with a tail ten times longer than her pony tail. Oh, you must have seen the joy on her face. It was worth over a million words. But then, just as she was flying the Kite, I heard her scream, “Dadaaaaaaa… Kite goneeee….” I looked up from tying my shoe laces. She had let go the thread that I had carefully tied around her soft and baby fingers. I saw the tears swelling in her eyes and before they turned into a torrent, I leapt and chased and ran and chased and ran, just like the eight year old many many summers ago. In no time I had the Kite with me.

The B-town is murmuring about Hrithik Roshan returning as a superhero in Krrish 2.How true is the news of a Krrish sequel coming up? We don’t know as yet but will soon find out when Papa Roshan finishes the post production work of the massively hyped movie Kites starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. “The Roshans are keeping mum about Krrish 2, as they are focusing all their attention in promoting Kites, starring Hrithik and Mexican beauty Barbara Mori internationally.” a source revealed

Rumours are that sequel to the movie Krrish will have a bigger and a better storyline. Rakesh Roshan will bring a team of experts from overseas to work on the special effects that will be a dominant part of the movie.The director is also planning to give the film a SFX effect which will add a part human,part robot aspect to the characters.Hrithik will be seen playing a double role in the film with attributes like that of Dr. Jekyl and Hyde.

Denying all the news in the media,Director Rakesh Roshan said,”As of now, there’s no Krrish 2 happening; I am too busy promoting Kites. Kites is our focus of attention as of now; the movie is being dubbed both in English and Hindi in order to appeal to international audiences. We even screened Kites at Cannes and got a lot of positive response from the 10-second promo of the film.”

Even though the Roshans are denying the rumours about the sequel,they added that they are not ruling out its possibility.Well that pretty much spills all the beans that the Roshans are trying to hide.The movie will come and it will come out with a Big Bang !

We understand that after the whole fuss about Kites and an affair between his star cast,the Roshans want to play it safe with their future projects.However as revealed by a source close to the family, Katrina and Deepika are being thought upon as the lead for the possible Krrish 2.

Krrish which was itself a sequel to the movie Koi Mil Gaya,a remake to the Hollywood movie ET, could not gather the same success as the original but definitely gave Bollywood its own Superhero.

Suzanne Khan did what star wives do in their spare time-pose for magazines. Hrithik Roshan’s wife will appear in the pages of Harper’s Bazaar Nov 2009.

Reports are that the green eyed Greek God will be shooting some pretty intense scenes with the the super model turned actress Monikangana Dutta.Sanjay leela Bhansali who is directing the new film made it clear to the duo that he wants an intense chemistry between the two.Monikangana Dutta will be playing former love interest of Hrithik Roshan and there will be plenty of lip locking scenes which has made the new comer quite uncomfortable but thanks to lovely wife Suzanne Roshan,who by the way knows about these intimate scenes had a little conversation with the actress to calm her nerves.
There will not be any kissing scenes between Hrithik Roshan and Aishwaraya although decided earlier but dropped later.The intimate scenes will be shot in Goa in January during the film’s next schedule.

My Name Is Khan which is coming from the successful combo Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar bagged huge profits pre-release only. Fox Star studio’s bagged the world wide release rights for 100 crores. It has broken Ghajini record which was sold for 90 crores.

Ghajini enjoyed the record almost one year. But My Name Is Khan, record time limited only for one month. Hrithik Roshan starred Kites which is set to release by the early 2010 broken this record. Big Pictures has bagged the world wide release rights of Kites for 150 crores.This movie proved the stamina of Hrithik Roshan.

If you told me years ago, as I drove in mindless circles on the ice, that someday my zamboni adventures would lead to a future wedding photography gig, I probably would of laughed in your face.  And knowing me, I probably would have laughed for a long time at that.

But that is where this wedding gig came from.  From an acquaintance I made long before people paided me to take pictures and even before I owned a digital camera and well .  It came from the land of supreme rink rats.

I guess that makes a good argument to the idea “don’t burn your bridges”, “you reap what you so”, etc.  Because really you never know where you business will come from.

Deirdre and Lenny’s wedding was a wonderful outing.  The day was gorgeous, the bride and groom were as laid back as could be, and the party was rocking with one hell of a cover band.  What more could a girl ask for?  Oh I know, I had a super stellar second photographer in Josh Gibney (check out his stuff at www.joshgibney.com).

Some people think that shooting weddings is easy money, but in reality shooting weddings is exhausting, stressful and a whole lot of work.  I earn every dime I make but at the end of the day it is one of the “good” kind of exhaustions.   It is hard to explain if you have never felt it, but the best way to describe is that it is a feeling that when you get home, you want to melt into the couch with a beer in hand, but you are still sort of smiling from the warm glow of the great work from the day.  When it is all said and done it is worth it, but certainly in the details of the day it seems like we are moving a million miles and hour and my only wish is to not do something clumsy like knock over the cake.

So how was this wedding? Great photos? Check!  Nice day?  Check!  Cake remained on the table? Double Check!

And now what you have been waiting for…..

And what I didnt realise is that by having a 2nd photographer with me, I would be caught on film  chatting with the guests.

Hrithik Roshan much talked about film Kites will now hit screens in 2010. This means his fans will have to wait a little longer to catch a glimpse of their favorite star on the big screen.

The release date of the much-awaited ‘Kites’ starring Hrithik opposite International actress Barbra Mori has been shifted even further from the original Jan 10, 2010 release to a summer 2010 release.

Big Pictures,international distributors of the film have asked Rakesh Roshan to delay the release of the film. Furthermore, Big Pictures did not believe that the film, which is a mega international joint-venture, would have sufficient time for promotions if the film was to release in January.

Kites will be extensively promoted at the various film festivals around the world next year. It will be shown at famous, the Buenos Aires International Film Festival.

After the big success of Jodha Akbar, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen together again in their forthcoming flick Guzaarish which is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

As per the requirement of the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali has arranged a French teacher for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Goa to teach her the accent and dialects of the language, since Aishwarya will speak french in the film and the audiences will understand them by the sub-titles that will come on screen in English.

The director has also given some extra assignment to Hrithik Roshan. The actor has to change his physique to obese. These days the actor is busy gaining weight as is not going to the gym. Our gorgeous 13 year old son went to Sydney to sing in the Schools Choral Festival at The Opera House, so my husband and I decided to go to the beach at Byron Bay and enjoy the early morning sunshine.

Unfortunately the northerly winds beat us to it, and even though there was a very strong wind blowing there was still a lot of activity going on: people paddling kayaks furiously against the wind, scuba dive boats going to Julian Rocks, sunbathers, people enjoying a morning walk, desperate surfers – but it was perfect weather for the kite flyer’s!

We decided to park at Wategoes Beach at the bottom of The Cape, and take the Cape Byron Walking Track and climb uphill to the lighthouse. It’s always nice to be reminded how friendly people are when sharing a beautiful walk and fantastic scenery. It’s like being on holidays for the day – I’d recommend it to anyone!

Sometimes when you are lucky there may be a pod of dolphins frolicking near by, or in the Whale Watching Season you may spot a whale. My legs were in a bit of shock at first, but it was worth the fantastic views and seeing how they’ve improved the track since I last traversed it years ago. It used to be a goat track – which reminds me – there are no mountain goats on the headland anymore. Does anyone remember seeing the mountain goats on the steep cliffs years ago. I think they were taken away because they were not environmentally friendly!

Byron Bay is always a fabulous day out, and take the tip about parking at Wateoges Beach if you prefer to save yourself the $7 fee to park at the lighthouse – and have a good workout too!
