Kors, det blæser. I Ystad blev vi sat på en bus, fordi forholdene i Ystad havn er noget ged, når det blæser så meget, så vi skulle over vogndækket for at komme ombord.

Alligevel blæser det ikke vildt – 12 sekundmeter – fortalte kaptajnen på briefingen. Det giver ikke bølger på 2 meter og det gør heller ikke at man skal blive siddende. Men skibet hugger altså i søen. Og så lægger den sig enten til bagbord eller styrbord. Irriterende at ryggen skal kompensere for den hældning.

Da vi kom ombord kom vi forbi receptionen – og jeg stoppede for at få en søsygpille. Meget godt valg, kan jeg mærke på mavsen. Den reagerer lidt med kvalme og uro, men det er ikke vildt. Endnu. Haha.

Jeg er lidt træt af blæst. Det er spild af energi, hvis jeg må bestemme. Desuden betyder blæst en del for overfarten Ystad/Rønne og jeg gider sq ikke være søsyg, altså. Villum Clausen har en irriterende tendens til at hugge så jeg bliver dårlig af det. I gamle dage blev jeg ikke søsyg ved de gamle færger, men med blikbøtten bliver jeg grøn i fjæset bare ved at se på den i blæsevejr.

Og nu er min rejse så udsat til i morgen kl. 06:39 – som om bølgerne i Østersøen har lagt sig nok til at færgen ikke vil hugge i søen. *pft*

Just drove from Tucson to Scottsdale. An hour and a half trip took me three hours. Cat took a shit ten minutes in, cried the rest of the way. I forgot my tights and my skirt for my awesome outfit tomorrow and now I can’t wear my awesome outfit. I also forgot my toothpaste and toothbrush. And did I mention the part where I had to sit in a poop car for three hours? Oh, and a semi-truck almost pushed me off the road. Good times.

So last Saturday night was my 25th birthday (11/21) and I went to Benihana with a few friends and I got a free meal. Along with my meal, I paid $7 (with free refills) for this lovely kitty shaped mug. It’s weird, quirky and a novelty … I HAD to have it. It’s not your conventional mug because you have to stick a straw in the little hole in his neck … and yes, it looks like a tracheostomy tube … that you’re drinking from. How sick is that?

While it’s not Hello Kitty, I’ve come to enjoy this weird looking mug, cup, whatever you want to call it. Gotta looooove China!

I got her this scratching box thingum because she’s really, really loved them in the past. Well, she really, really loves it. But y’know, actually SCRATCHING it might burn a calorie.

They never miss a chance to perform so it’s no surprise that Kitty, Daisy and Lewis took the opportunity to have  jam at the Camden Head on Sunday evening. They performed with Blind Boy Paxton on guitar and didn’t stop until chuck out time. What are they like…

The last few days it seems that I’ve been spending a lot of time in my room desperately trying to catch up on emails, blogs, and other computer related endeavors as well as unpacking and setting up a personal space in someone else’s home.  And all I can say is thank goodness for Pandora.  I’ve been stationed into The Weepies & Laura Marling for the perfect aural environment.

My new accommodation includes a view of a golf course and a very nice little patio nook.  I like going to the large sliding glass door in the mornings and just watching… everything.  I forget how green it is in Southeast Texas, year round.  I also forgot just how many bugs and critters that come with living below the mason-dixon line.  Yuck.  (I can do w/o that cultural experience thank-you-very-much.)  I guess we’re all trying to (re)familiarize ourselves with our new surroundings as the kitties are making their own adjustments too.  Dutch saw his first squirrel and Manchester is trying to figure out what to do about being at eye level with neighborhood cats that come up onto the porch.  I didn’t realize just how insulated those two little kitties have been in our 2nd floor home.  And that’s made me think: maybe I too have been a little too insulated in my life…

I’m homo in SoMo (specifically Lebanono) after a long gruesome journey. Regina excitedly got in her carrier and promptly regretted it. For 100 miles she meowed, groaned, and cried at me, making the strangest most gutteral unearthly noises imaginable. I’ll never think of Of Montreal without hearing tortured cat noises behind it. I tried to drown her out with their discography, but she just upped her volume and variation, making sure I didn’t forget she was pissed. I tried to pet her through the caged front and she wrapped her paw around my fingers and tried to pull my hand in. Misery loves company (in a pet taxi)?

Once in Columbia, my parents met me, took me to Culver’s (gross, but fast) and my dad kindly rode the rest of the way with the harpie cat while my mom and I talked about my dad’s quirks and tendencies. Fun!

Upon arrival, Regina looked around the perimeter of our house, which took much longer than the process at my apartment, then when introduced to Rocky, hissed, slapped him, and made different hellish sounds including a low growl. Rocky took this all in stride and simply looked at her with his long stoic face (more on this later) as if to say “Your behavior is truly uncouth.” Then Regina laid on her back and made the same noise (girls love mixed signals.) Rocky and Regina are neutered and spayed respectively, but neither has been around the opposite sex much. They both clearly prefer human company and gratefully received rubs and love from us and hateful glances from each other. After this had gone on for a while, Regina hit Rocky one too many times and he held up a threatening claw-bearing paw and hissed. Regina paid his size and age no mind and continued to pester him before finally giving up and eating one of my father’s prized orchids.

Stayin' calm/carryin' on

Regina has since calmed down. We set up food, water, and a litter box for her in my room, something my parents would have never allowed in the old days. She’s adjusting well thus far.

Oh, Rocky. Rocky is the kindest, smartest, best cat we’ve ever had. In 1994 we made the journey from California to Missouri with the assistance of a Mayflower moving van. We drove a 1966 Chevy truck which my dad still drives to work and carried with us a piece of precious cargo: a pregnant cat named Vady. Vady gave birth to seven beautiful kittens shortly after we moved in and we gave all of them away except for Rocky, a beautiful Siamese mix with bright blue eyes and a soft round face. Rocky was brilliant and loving and literally grew up with me.

Reasons why Rocky rocks:

• When I cried, Rocky would hear me and bound into my room to cuddle.
• When we tried to give him medicine he would put it under his tongue until we left, spit it out, and hide it under his food bowl.
• When we close doors to keep him out of rooms, he uses his claw to open them.
• When he was suicidal after we moved into our current house, he ate steel wool to try to kill himself.
• He weighs 23 lbs.
• Once, I saw him playing with a baby bird. With his claws retracted so to not injure her.

Wrong blog, fuck off.

Today, Rocky is not the rambunctious kitty whose picture I put in my musical locket which played “You Are My Sunshine” and made me cry lots.

Ways in which Rocky makes me sad:

• Firstly, he looks different. I didn’t even recognize the cat with whom I spent my childhood (I’m an only child so I’m serious) and asked if my parents had lost the real Rocky.
• His face has grown longer, his bones look tired, his fur is a different color, and his eyes aren’t even blue. I was afraid of him. He’s always been a massive being, but he just looked terrifying tonight.
• When I went away to college, Rocky stopped wanting to come upstairs and hang out.
• He spent a month after I left refusing to go past the landing and sat with his back to my parents.
• They had to close the door to my room because he would go in it and look around longingly and make my mom cry.
• When I would come home Rocky would be delighted and play with me, sleep on my lap, and be his old self. Until I left.
• When I talked to my mother on the phone he would hear my voice and meow at the phone.

I don’t know what I had hoped for. Kitty friends? Some R&R with Regina and Rocky/R&R? For them to make out? For Rocky to be 10 again? For Regina to less of a bitch?

BITCH

I’m just frustrated with everything. I have so much work to do and my heart is torn over these too feline companions. Do I express loyalty to the oldest friend I have or the one I live with and made suffer a four hour journey? I soso have nono idea.

        Seguro que has oído hablar de ellos, seguro que su música ya te suena de algo, y es que estos tres hermanos londinenses llevan ya un tiempo considerable ostentando el título de última sensación en lo que a descubrimientos musicales se refiere gracias a su pop-rock súper fresco con toques R&B, Swing, Country y Blues.

       Kitty, Daisy & Lewis estarán paseando sus alusiones a Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles o Elvis Presley el próximo jueves 26 de Noviembre en la sala Joy Eslava de Madrid* y no se me ocurre una manera mejor de empezar el fin de semana que disfrutando de una genial noche de baile.

        Sure you’ve already heard about them, sure their music rings a bell because these three siblings from London have been for some time already holding the ultimate-sensation-title, according to musical discoveries, thanks to their super fresh pop-rock with some touches of R&B, Swing, Country and Blues.

        Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will take their allusions to Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles or Elvis Presley next Thursday 26th of  November to Joy Eslava in Madrid* and I can’t think of a better way of starting the weekend than going there and enjoy a great dancing night.
