I did the Red Seal Hunt yesterday and a bit of the Fashion Freak 2 Hunt. Meanwhile, a hot gift from Hucci came in. And I added a bit of Hair Fair in this post, just to remind you that it ends on Sunday, so if you still want to do last-minute shopping or you did not pick up all the gifts, now is the time.

First up, a top and cardi that I got as a Red Seal Hunt at Wap Design. The hair is a new release by Berries Inc. for the Hair Fair. The skin is by Chic Inc and you can get it as prize for the Fashion Freaks Hunt.

I used this skin, called Elfie (which comes with tattoo version plus tattoo layers) to show you this cute-cute dress that I found in the FF2, from Snowpaw Fashion. The scarf is a Red Seal Hunt prize from Zeery (also comes with classic scarf for the neck).

It’s a long story of why I left (because there were many reasons) but, basically, I disliked Davis (the school, Davis, the town itself is amazing). The only reason I stayed in Davis for so long was because of KDVS. It came down to forcing myself to stay in a school I hated, just to stay with a music scene I loved, or go somewhere that would work with my future plans.

I’m glad I did leave Davis, as things seem to be working out better now & I’m much happier.

I still miss KDVS though… and most of the (few) friends I did make at Davis was because of KDVS (not classes).

So, what is KDVS? It’s a freeform radio station that lives in the basement of UCDavis’ Freeborn Hall. I could probably ramble on and on about KDVS, but here are some videos covering it, as it would probably explain better:

These are roughly 2 years old, but the information is still true. I couldn’t find the recent AGTV interview with KDVS via youtube, but it’s on facebook.

When I was there, I had my own music show called The Obsidian Ocean.  I mainly played post-rock, prog, electronics, VGM, OCRemixes, chiptunes, & Japanese “indie” bands.  As you can see, DJs  have a lot of freedom (as long as you stick to FCC rules).

For one quarter, I joined forces with my DJ counterpart DJ Kelp and we hosted an epic show called “Mr.Gojira Happy Show”. I would say 80% of the music played was from Japan.  We basically worked our butts trying to find new artists to share from Nihon, because one of KDVS’ goals is to educate the public & not play music that is in the top charts.

Being there, my musical taste has changed and I’m more open to music.

Random KDVS facts:
-DJ Shadow went to Davis & DJ’d at KDVS
-A few musicians were former KDVS DJs (Blackalicious, !!!, Boss the Big Bit, etc)

The bands going through Davis because of KDVS is amazing.  I’ve also been lucky enough to make new friends with musicians while there. As well as got into awkward situations with some… which I will not mention here…

^This was one of my favorite shows because all the bands were pretty Mathy or Prog. Also, all these bands were touring together and they were so supportive of each other. In this clip, you can hear them screaming together at one point. Planets, & Manacle were super nice to me too.

Now! Onto my plug-ola!

One time a year KDVS has a fundraiser, and it usually happens the week of Picnic Day (which happens to be today!).  This is where most of the funding comes from.  If you think about it, they run the station 24/7! So, equipment needs fixing and updating.

Story: When I was there, we had a CD player of death.  It wouldn’t open unless you pressed the button really hard.  Even then, it would like to be a jerk & open then close!

Currently, I know my “cat posse” has a problem with a computer keyboard in Studio B. Not to mention not having pens when they need them.

I mentioned before that I was going to make some little drawings for the fundraiser, specifically for the show Kitteh Kitteh Bang Bang (which is hosted by my DJ counter part DJ Kelp, and Cat Possee leader Wesley Dodds).

They’re not much, but I hope someone will want them enough to donate haha:

2) It’s kind of a tribute to Mr. Gojira Happy Show. It says “Nekora”

3) A collage. It’s kind of feminine, but I like it. I wish I could have kept it!

Fundraiser is also a pretty fun time for KDVS because this is when DJs will do the craziest things for their shows.  I remember one year one DJ ate milk bones, and another snorted cayane pepper. KKBB will be doing kareoke!

I am usually shy about singing and doing ‘loud’ things,  but I did karaoke with Kelp our one fundraiser year.  I love the station that much, that I sang – live, on the radio, IN 日本語 too!  I also still have that show on my external HD, and I would upload it but it’s 2 hours long!

I am kind of rambling and out of it now, so hopefully all of this made sense.

Kitteh Kitteh Bang Bang will start off fundraiser on Monday,  April 19, at 12a.m.! The day before my birthday. Maybe you could donate as little as a dollar to KDVS to say Happy Birthday to me? haha.

Found this exciting piece of news over at /Film, and I apologize to Russ Fischer for close-to blatantly stealing 99.9% of his thunder. But I am very excited for this as he is in his reaction. So please go read that as well.

Apparently, MichMo (Michelle Monaghan–it’s my pet name for her while I make us grilled cheese in my underwear after sex) will be joining former Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang co-star Robert Downey, Jr. as well as “Between the Two Ferns” host Zach Galifinakis in Todd Philipps’ next comedy, Due Date.

It will be a nice little reunion for Monaghan and Tony Stark, who last saw each other in 2005′s KKBB (a favorite in 6N), a very underrated flick for those of you who haven’t seen it.

Fischer also requests a cameo for the Ice Man, Val Kilmer, who played the awesome Gay Perry in KKBB and last I heard was thinking of running for something-er-other, which I also agree with. But that brings up a whole other topic.

I’ve had numerous complaints from 6NBlog readers (okay, maybe one or two) that Kilmer deserves a spot on our banner at the top of the site. As you can see, that motherfucker is chock full of cinematic/athletic greatness, and I’m not sure if I can squeeze a little Val in there or not. So I’m going to conduct 6NBlog’s first ever poll question: Do you think Val (in some shape or form–yes, we could use him as Batman) deserves some love on the top of the site? I can’t wait for all five of you to vote. I’m really on the edge of my seat here.
