Haha, I just listened to Lykke Li’s contribution to the New Moon Soundtrack and it reminded me of two things. Firstly, that Lykke Li is a great singer and secondly that I haven’t given you guys anything from her yet though I like her so much that I think everone should check her out and buy her records.
So I decided to upload a song of Kleerup for you which features Lykke Li and is pretty good in my opinion. I don’t know anything else about Kleerup though… judging from this song it’s probably also worth checking out. I’ll catch you guys up if I learn anything about him.

Lykke li has been around for a while, but I have not gotten tired of this girl.

I’m going to be adding a new video everyday, but since this is new, I figure give you a second video on my first day.

This one is from Swedish producer (Andreas)  Kleerup.  The song is “Longing For Lullabies” and it is a simple video but still one of my favorites.

PS  If I was Kleerup and had those girls like me, I don’t think I would be so glum.

the rambutan is a fruit that i can’t really describe except to say that the inside is tasty, slimy, lychee-like and delicious and encased in a soft-spiny-acorn-like casing.  my sole rambutan experience took place in a suburb of kuala lumpur, where two malaysian women and five malaysian men took turns plucking the fruit from the trees surrounding a habitat-for-humanity candidate (pictured below) while i tried my best to ignore the ants crawling up my arm towards the most geographically-suspect, papaya-sized mosquito bite i’d ever encountered.

the rambutan playlist is very much like the fruit, except only insofar as it is enjoyable despite seeming a little suspect on the surface.  still, the plainly forced connection really doesn’t speak to the actual reason this playlist is called rambutan.  the actual reason is this: it was the first word to pop into my head after lycheefruit, which i’d used for a playlist a few months ago.  if i was really combining an itunes playlist with rambutan, it might look something like this:

Hittade lite kul mitt i allt tråk här, man måste ju kunna skratta i svåra och hårda stunder som dessa.

After a long week at work, and full 9 hours at my company’s shop (2 elements, Orchard Central) daily, here I am blogging again. Well overall, work has been fine, with lots of challenges as always but many learning experiences if not, revisions of what I’ve learnt so far. Nonetheless, the best thing is still the fact that I can blast my songs on the shop’s stereos.

I’m probably one of the few people in the whole world who’s not in love with Lykke Li at the moment. It might be because I’ve only heard one song  by her. I have, however,  fallen in love with a song that she sings on. That has to count for something, right?

Wow I’ve been gone a long time. I took a 12 day vacation to Michigan where the weather was cool. Now I’m back in the city and I’m sweatin’. Never got a chance to get to the Founders Brewery in Grand Rapids like I planned, but I still have a chance to see ‘em at the WCL Taste of the Great Lakes beer tasting next Wednesday which I mentioned before.

If you’re like me you get all excited when you happen across an obscure funky oldie you come across online. What makes them even more interesting is when some dude takes an already great song and chops it up, loops the best parts, and adds an extra kick drum or two. So lately I’ve been digging this dude Pilooski from Paris, who makes magic with every song he screws with. He’s reworked Can, Frankie Valli, Elvis Presley, The Pointer Sisters… I can’t get enough:

Kleerup Feat. Lykke Li – Until We Bleed

Over the weekend, I checked out the new movie “(500) Days of Summer,” and, as the narrator tells you up front, this is “not a love story.” So I’m not spoiling anything by relating to you that it deals with breakups, bad relationships, and heartache. But at its heart, this is a comedy, an anti-romantic comedy, and it succeeds in its tongue-in-cheek mocking of the genre. Both of the leads, Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, were pitch-perfect.

Their characters, Tom Hansen and Summer Finn, seem to be a perfectly matched hipster pair, and yet somehow they just don’t work out. The writing of the characters is a little uneven, as only Tom is given a real passion, as a greeting card writer who wants to be an architect, while the character of Summer is somehow less whole, possibly airy by design. They explain that she is beguiling and has a certain charm that’s hard to define, but you don’t really get to the core of what she’s all about apart from “not believing in love.” With his slim stature and crooked smile, it’s hard not to route for Gordon-Levitt, despite his previous stint on one of the worst shows of our time. One of my favorite things about the film is that its chronology is scrambled—so that Tom and Summer’s initial meeting and their eventual break-up occur, in film time, close together and near the beginning, getting it out of the way and letting the film unfold around the much more interesting business of everything that happened in between. It was one of the better new movies I’ve seen lately—overall, A-.

The movie actually had a great soundtrack; there are a few new songs I will be listening to more in the weeks to come, but for today’s Jam, I wanted to feature one of the most haunting break-up songs I’ve heard lately, from Swedish singer Lykke Li. I have been listening to everything new from Lykke Li since I couldn’t get “Dance Dance Dance” and “Little Bit” out of my head last year. Her latest collaboration with Swedish producer Kleerup is equally captivating. His debut album, Kleerup, was released last year in Europe but is getting released in the US next week, on July 28th. The heavy lyrics about a bad relationship are set to dance beats and somehow it works, mostly due to Li’s wounded and lingering vocals. Li will be in the New York metro area soon, when she performs at the All Points West Music Festival in Jersey City on August 2nd. Hopefully ev2bk will be there to check it out!

For this self healing journey I unprofessionally recommend bringing your favorite hairbrush to sing and scream into. Let the emotions rise up like an embittered sour dough and then when you’re all worked up and a hot hot mess, enjoy being able to give a toast to the memories. And that’s it. Just the memories because if you and the significant other broke up it was because the relationship was broken to begin with.

We’re classy consumers over here so the next stop for anything broken is naturally the dump. Toss it all out. Or burn it down. I know I did. And they’ll never be able to pin it on me because I know enough not to use accelerants nor to burn a pair of Nikes in a bathtub.

This program is a 12 step because, well, getting dumped sucks a lot more than having to break up with someone- the shit end of the stick always stinks, let’s face it, and that requires at least 2 more steps if not more.
