Cryptic Studios announced late last week that the bridge would be a playable space in your ship which was a bit of a surprise to me since I assumed there was always going to be a bridge, where else am i supposed to put my bridge officers. There you go we now know for sure there is a bridge and at least 20 different ones at that, with the release of the “Bridge gameplay“ video we get to see our new home and that is what it will be were the Captains will do all there strategizing and if I read this right other Captains can beam over to see use face to face, hopefully for good and not evil. The bridge officers will be at the stations you choose for them to best help your ship in what ever endeavor it is up to. Give me the Defiant bridge with a borg at each station and lets see how long you last, I can dream can’t I. This video is mild compared to the second video “Ship Tactics“ which is in the same vein as the FUTURE PAST videos. It  is an actual walk-through of the ship systems and a first look at your HUD and how the bridge officers fit in, how they and your ship can be customized. this one is a must see for every future Captain out there. Ok, it’s bad enough there are 600 Guitar Hero games but now religion has seen as an opportunity to speak to the youth.  A Kotaku reader found this delight on sale in a Christian store. EPIC FAIL~!

As I said, I am really going to try and continue to write more frequently. I also said I was going to write about my console gaming, but with the announcement today of World of Warcraft now including in-game pets for purchase, I wanted to just write down my thoughts on the subject.  I read the announcement on Kotaku today, and was, to be honest a little shaken.  Not shaken by their decision to include these items in a game store, they have had a form of in-game items up until this point, with being able to switch races being one of the newest services offered for a fee, but by how it made me feel about the items.  I was shaken because when it was the ability to change your appearance or move your character to another shard it did not bother me. I hardly gave it a second thought actually.  The pets crossed some line I didn’t even realize I had.  Upon reflection of this, I realized that for me, the acquisition of in-game items, even if they are just pets and not the uber-sword of uberness, is what drives character progression.  That is what has been a defining characteristic of Blizzard games for me since Diablo.  Now we have items that, even though they are strictly cosmetic like changing the hair style or race of your character, you can obtain for a small price and that bugs me.  Why?  Other games that have marketed themselves as “micro-transaction” games do not bother me, but perhaps that is the crux of the situation.  There is an understanding from the beginning of what to expect.  In a way this leads back to my preference for EQ and EQ2 because the accomplishment of a trial makes the reward at the end even more worthwhile.  Who cares, it is only 2 in-game pets and it in no way breaks the game.  There are still numerous quests out there that I have yet to experience or accomplish to claim my reward.  Heck I have yet to even reach max level on one character of mine in WoW, and this is why I was shaken.  Like many others that I have read and heard about on various podcasts who cry out that any developer who after being “non-transaction” for any length of time are selling out or breaking the game, I experienced the same knee-jerk reaction. I have asked before for a game that would allow for truly unique items, truly one of a kind items, so perhaps this is intertwined with that.  Who cares if someone has the uber-sword of uberness, why do all the characters have to be all the same?  To sell something in-game is simply giving into the mentality of “he has one so I should have one too!”

So I have been playing more Fallout 3 on PS3 and absolutely loving it.  I was at a bit of a standstill on the game due to hitting max level and never completing the main storyline.  I simply leveled up off of all the side quests that existed in the world.  Upon getting my PS3 back online I downloaded Broken Steel allowing me to raise my character 10 more levels.  In some ways I feel this broke the game slightly, because I am now concentrating on the main storyline and feel very overpowered.  I will have definitely have to download the additional DLC for the game.

O blog “Kotaku” divulgou nesta terça-feira (3) que a Microsoft vai reembolsar o dono de um cachorro “acusado” de comprar o equivalente a US$ 62,5 em pontos na loja on-line Xbox Live. Além disso, continua o site, a empresa dará ao cão sua própria conta nessa rede.

Há cerca de duas semanas, o “Kotaku” relatou a história de um leitor chamado Greg. Ele contou que, seu cachorro, Oscar, atacou o controle de seu Xbox 360 enquanto o dono dormia. Ao morder o produto, o cão acabou comprando por acidente o equivalente a US$ 62,5 em pontos da Xbox Live. Esses pontos podem ser usados para a aquisição de jogos.

“Percebi quando olhei meu telefone para ver que horas eram e vi o e-mail da Microsoft confirmando a compra”, contou Greg, por e-mail, ao blog. Ele enviou fotos do cão e também do controle mordido. Segundo seu dono, o animal já havia mordido travesseiros, chinelos, caixas, roupas íntimas, papel higiênico, garrafas e a cortina da sala de Greg. Essa foi a primeira vez, no entanto, que o animal conseguiu fazer compras dessa forma.

“Quais as chances de ele morder os botões certos, na ordem certa e movimentar a alavanca nas direções corretas para navegar e comprar pontos? Uma em um bilhão?”, questionou o dono.

Com a divulgação da história, a Microsoft enviou uma mensagem ao “Kotaku” informando sobre o reembolso. “Felizmente para Greg, a Microsoft vai reembolsá-lo pelos pontos e lhe dar alguns pontos extras. Além disso, ele vai ganhar um novo controle e uma assinatura da Xbox Live para seu cachorro, Oscar. Nós também criamos uma conta para Oscar, para o cão não se sentir excluído”, diz o texto, segundo o blog.

Cryptic has released 12 new screenshots for STO and if this is how the game looks you can beam me up right now. Our good friends at KOTAKU who have played the game when it was at PAX WEST have a more measured approach  and  a leery eye doesn’t hurt in these matters but you can still beam me up I drank the Kool-Aid long ago when I first heard Cryptic’s announcement ( they even had Leonard Nimoy on hand)  that they were bringing out STO, of course back then I and probably everyone else was thinking it would be years down the road before  this one saw the light of day yet here we are in Closed Beta with a Q1 2010 release date If you like your screenshots extra-large and who doesn’t ZAM has 5 of them fore you 

Finding great prices on technology is not always limited to store ads or even websites. One less used way to find deals is through RSS.  Now, if you’re a reader of this blog, you probably already know how to subscribe to RSS feeds, but just in case you don’t, Google Reader is always a good place to start. It’s web-based, simple, and you can search for other feeds and subscribe to them through the reader.

They are not always the easiest to find, but once subscribed to, finding deals on RSS feeds could be as easy as checking your email.  Let me highlight a few feeds of interest for you (click the titles to access and subscribe to the RSS Feeds):

Lifehacker

Website Lifehacker is not a website completely devoted to deals, but it IS devoted to finding unconventional ways of improving your life through simple (often cheap) DIY ideas and projects, often involving technology.  Their companion RSS feed contains every post made to the site, and about once or twice a week, they feature posts with the tag “Dealhacker.” These posts are often time-sensitive discounts that stores or websites are running and are also often tech-related.  Many of these “Dealhacker” posts are specifically called “Gadget and Gear Deals of the Day“. These gems of posts aggregate a section for Computer Gear, Not Computer Gear, and Free Stuff from various different deal sources and put them in one post.

Gizmodo

Part of the same network as Lifehacker, Gizmodo is a website all about technology and gadgets.  This is a very cool website if you want to keep up with tech news and the latest in gadgets.  Their RSS Feed works in the same way as Lifehacker’s and contains posts tagged with “Dealzmodo” that feature tech-specific deals. Their most watched ones are called “Gadget Deals of the Day” which aggregate even more tech-specific deals from a lot of the same websites as Lifehacker (which means you’ll get a bit of overlap between the two feeds).

Kotaku

For the more video game oriented people out there, this is for you.  Kotaku is a website dedicated to video game news and reviews, and is also on the same network as the last two feeds. About once or twice a week, they also feature posts tagged with “Dealtaku” which gives insight to the best deals and weekend coupons specifically on video games and accessories.  This feed is a definite must for anyone who loves video games and doesn’t want to pay a lot for them.

These sites are most certainly not the end-all-be-all of Deal RSS Feeds, and I’m only scratching the surface, of course, but they are a great way to start.  If these interest you, definitely subscribe to them and also see if you can find some more from readers like Google Reader, or just check back with Tech on a Budget for some more featured RSS Feeds soon!

Wouldn’t it be sweet to have Super Street Fighter IV at your local Dave & Buster’s? According to a spokesperson for Capcom, they haven’t really considered it, but it would be a simple transition. Kotaku reports the following:

But Street Fighter IV runs on an actual PC computer tucked away inside those cabinets located in arcades. Capcom’s Seth Killian said that if Super Street Fighter IV was released to arcades, an arcade machine could be updated by simply installing new software and changing the cabinet’s art work.

If it’s as easy as pie, then why not cut a slice and feed us.

Another entry into the ongoing saga of one washed-up singer’s attempts to desperately clutch to the thinning threads of stardom, Courtney Love’s Twitter outburst (cheers Kotaku!) last month has suspiciously coincided with the removal of YouTube footage of Kurt Cobain’s Guitar Hero 5 avatar singing songs by other artists.

Today, footage of the deceased Nirvana frontman singing tracks by other bands that Love has previously described as an ‘insult’ to her late husband’s genius (personally I think they were one of the most over-rated bands in history, but that’s another debate) were pulled from YouTube, sparking rumours that Activision is sweeping the messy business under the rug before things get even more complicated…

…Oh and of course Love’s decision to throw the crack pipe out of the pram over what is clearly Neversoft paying tribute to the man had nothing to do with money…at all…ever…

More after the jump… The farce started when Love posted on her Twitter: ‘For the record this Guitar Hero shit is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction.’

Which was shortly followed by: ‘WE are going to sue the shit out of Activision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises.’

I have to admit, I didn’t see the issue going any further, but when footage of Cobain started disappearing today, I was a tad confused by the way some forum posters engaged in angered finger-pointing in Activision’s direction. If I was Activision, I’d also want this thorny issue to vanish as soon as possible. The woman sounds desperate and more than a tad mental.

Better stop now before I get myself sued…
