Festie season may be drawing to a close, but the new shows and sounds keep rolling in! Starting with the crisp brush of autumn breeze and ending with a Halloween nightcap, October is one of my favorite months- you can smell the mischief in the air! Or maybe that’s a grape blunt.

Οι Kraak & Smaak κυκλοφόρησαν το 2007 το The Remix Sessions, στην προσπάθεια της Jalapeno Records να βγάλει μια σειρά από κασετίνες καλλιτεχνών της, που θα περιλαμβάνουν remixes και τίποτα άλλο. Έτσι και εδώ, έχουμε διπλό cd, το πρώτο ελαφρώς downtempo και το δεύτερο πιο χορευτικό. Remixes πάνω σε ονόματα όπως οι Skeewiff, Ikon, Jamiroquai, Fort Knox Five, Lack Of Afro και δεν συμμαζεύεται! Καλή δουλειά, με έμφαση στο χορευτικό στοιχείο και πάντα με βάση τα electro και funky breaks. 3,5/5…

Το 2005, από τις Κάτω Χώρες, επισκέφτηκαν τα ηχεία μας οι Kraak & Smaak με την πρώτη δισκογραφική δουλειά τους με τίτλο Boogie Angst. Έχοντας υπογράψει στην δυναμική Jalapeno Records, μας παρουσίασαν ένα ιδιαίτερα καλό album, έτοιμο να κατασπαράξει τα dancefloors. Funky breaks, boogaloo και fat beats, σε ένα δίσκο τσαχπίνικο που κλείνει το μάτι στο ρυθμό και στο τέμπο…4/5!

Joe & Will Ask? did a bang up job on this remix of Sharam + Nik’s “In My Blood”. I thought it took a bit to get going, but ones their version is in full effect… Damn. Just, damn. There’s a video for the original version that you can see here and I would have included it in the post but the typography on that album art was winkin’ at me.

Vou postar dois vídeos que vi hoje e achei sensacionais.

O primeiro é do produtor de música jamaicana erradicado em SP, Victor Rice, em seu projeto solo: o Strikkly Vikkly Strikes.  O que me chamou a atenção foi a técnica que o cara usa pra mixar. Confesso que nunca tinha visto. Ele mixa diretamente na mesa de som, mexendo com os canais de áudio. É muito bom.

O outro é um clipe de uma banda americana, do Brooklyn, Nova Iorque, chamada Awesome Color. O som não é muito minha praia e não me agradou, mas o que me prendeu foi a arte do clipe; parabéns pra galera da direção de arte. Cores e mais cores sendo projetadas no fundo e os caras tocando. Coisa de louco. A música se chama Eyes of Light. Vendo o nome da banda e da música, da pra imaginar o porque do clipe. Confiram:

Esse clipe, abaixo, também é muito legal a idéia; sem falar na música que é muito boa. Som da banda Kraak & Smaak, para a música Squeeze Me. Inspiração nos desenhos animados, pelo menos na forma como são feitos. Imagens, que em velocidade, viram movimento. Direção de Andre Maat e Superelectric.

Kraak & Smaak esta banda Holandesa va por su segundo, disco publicado en ábril del 2008, y he de decir que me han gustado mucho, tienen un estilo muy Funkie con un toque urbano que en verdad vale la pena escuchar, el video que les muestro es “squeeze me”, el cual muestra un concepto muy original y en verdad genial, hace falta màs bandas como esta, que traen nuevas y muy interesantes propuestas a nuestros sentidos. “Squeeze me” ya es una de mis canciones favoritas, y esencialr en el iPod para andar por la ciudad y lo mejor de todo, la pueden descargar gratis desde Rcrdlbl un muy buen sitio que recomiendo a todos los audiofilos, donde pueden escuchar y descargar gratuitamente, música de verdaderos grupos indies.

Simple y Preciso. uno de los mejores del 2008

Comentário: emocionante história que mostra que mesmo em tempos de guerra tem gente solidária. Lembrando que a história é real.

MÚSICA: KRAAK & SMAAK – SQUEEZE ME

Op 5 mei vieren we onze vrijheid en dat kan in Rotterdam bij de Erasmusbrug. Daar vindt namelijk het Bevrijdingsfestival Rotterdam plaats, met in de line-up o.a. Joris Voorn, Isis en Kraak & Smaak.

Toegang is gratis. Het feest vindt plaats van 12:00 tot 23:00, maar waarschijnlijk zullen de technonamen afsluiten en dus pas laat draaien.

A couple of years ago (*yikes*!), I posted a piece about the return of the flip book.  Over time, this resurgence of this tactile technology hasn’t succumb to the “fad o’ the day” that so many nostalgic formats often take toward oblivion.

Instead, it seems the flip book is here to stay.  To illustrate this, I ran across a great video by Kraak & Smaak called “Squeeze Me” – and thought you’d enjoy this lighthearted but innovative application of this old technology.

Kraak & Smaak è un gruppo musicale Olandese che fa musica elettronica, e nel 2008 era uscito con questo video del singolo ‘Squeeze me’..

..penso invece che non abbia bisogno di presentazioni il marchio Audi e tantomeno il suo nuovo Q5.. ma guardate il video uscito da poco per Audi SouthAfrica..non vi ricorda qualcosa (anche se, bisogna ammetterlo, con tutta un’altra poesia)

..ringraziamenti vanno al sito Illegal Advertising, ormai titolare fisso nella mia ‘collezione’ di rss, che mi ha anche questa volta dato lo spunto..

Congratulations Perez and Kanye for supporting such a great line up of emerging young female artists, espeically! in the music industry in Austin last night.

Any event that has Solange Knowles and Ladyhawke of New Zealand in it, is a golden event indeed! What a moment for the next wave of women in music, who were in this line up with others. Rock on brothas! And Perez the spotlight you put on once newcomers Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, is paying off for all the world to see in their careers. Amazing! Let’s hope the same thing happens with Solange & Ladyhawke.

Prosto z Holandi, mistrzowie pozytywnych funkowych brzmień. Ktoś kiedyś napisał że to “najfajniejsza rzecz jaką Holendrzy mają do zaoferowania”.  W sam raz na zaspany piątkowy poranek.

Kraak & Smaak – Squeeze Me

As a person who is always looking or rather listening for the next thing in music or perhaps what was once was or even what is or was obscure, I find myself intrigued by tunes I have never heard before. Whether I am at a restuarant, where there is background music or I am walking and someone is blaring a song I do not recognize, I find myself stopping to find out what song or melody that is.  Unfortunately at restaurants, there is a random cd or a random satellite station playing thus the wait staff is not always sure what song is on when I ask.  Nowadays while partaking in a meal, I can somewhat rely on my trusty iPhone and the Shazam App, if the music is loud enough and if the song is recognized by the App, I can tag the song thus giving me the name of the artist and the title of the song.  The iPhone, Shazam and I-the perfect tandem.

Kraak & Smaak’s Squeeze Me,  is one of the many examples in which this tandem came into play.  I first heard this song in a Rhapsody Mp3 TV commericial-the one in which the female falls off of the roof and into a bubble. I became  so intrigued with this song that I placed my phone near the TV’s speaker and tagged it.  Kraak & Smaak is actually a Dutch music production team hailing from the Netherlands.  This song features the vocals of Ben Westbeech and includes a sample of “You’re the best girl in the world” by Johnnie Taylor.

Οι Kraak & Smaak επιστρέφουν με τη τρίτη δισκογραφική τους προσπάθεια με τίτλο Plastic People. Από τους κυριώτερους εκφραστές της σύγχρονης χορευτικής και funky breaks σκηνής και ένα από τα δυνατά χαρτιά της Jalapeno Records, δοκιμάζουν για άλλη μια φορά τις αντοχές μας σε ξέφρενα πάρτυ μέχρι πρωίας… Εμφανής η στροφή σε περισσότερο ηλεκτρονικά μονοπάτια, η νέα τους δουλειά, αν και πολυαναμενόμενη, δεν δικαιολογεί απόλυτα αυτό που περιμέναμε να ακούσουμε. Παρόλα αυτά, αξίζει να του ρίξετε ένα άκουσμα και ειδικότερα το soul/ funk κομμάτι-δυναμίτη Squeeze Me με τα φωνητικά του Ben Westbeech, το οποίο ταρακουνούσε το Λονδίνο την άνοιξη που μας πέρασε. 3,5/5
