A time of the year when we see alot of the good will in hip hop here are some of my favorite artists ways of giving back..
Young Jeezy
A Day of Giving Thanks is giving 26 students a night of basketball with the Atlanta Hawks and great food. His thoughts on this event “I am thankful to be able to stay apart of our youth today and the direction that they may choose to pursue. To me, the success behind being Young Jeezy, behind the fame is being able to take time out and help the less fortunate when I am able to.”

Akon and Ludacris and Big Boi help distribute 2000 turkeys to needy families.

KRS is giving back returning to the same shelter where he stayed before his thoughts, “I am participating in The Bowery Mission’s Thanksgiving food drive and event because I myself was once homeless, walking these very streets, and spending time with these wonderful people at The Bowery Mission. I depended on them to survive.”

And he hopes his philanthropy will persuade his fellow hip-hop contemporaries to lend a hand to charitable causes.

Parker adds, “I am showing up for Thanksgiving this year to not only lend a hand, but hope that I am may inspire others in the hip-hop community to consider their role towards helping the homeless, and join me by helping those in your community that need help during this holiday season.”

Mariah Carey will host a dinner at True Worship Church.

and Master P has teamed up with OneMillionGifts.org to help one million people get food and clothing this season.

Lets face it, Arsenio Hall was OUR late nite talk show.  And when I say our, that could be taken as black people or hip-hoppers.  It was shortly live and there has never been anything to replace it.  At least not on regular tv.  So what does this have to do with the title of the post?  Nothing really.  Somebody from another forum shared this link.   I took a look and had instant nostalgia within the first 10 seconds.  Usually I would think about how dope the music was back then….. and yes I said dope!  But instead, all I could think about was what happend to the baggy jeans and hoodies??  These cats today in the nut hugger jeans and skin tight polos is killing me.

The internet is a web of information. You can look up how to cook your favorite dishes, or find out what Tupac’s favorite sneakers were. Or, if your into the movement, you might read up on the long list of conspiracy theories that are published on a daily basis.

One widely discussed conspiracy theory is the NWO (or New World Order). Here’s a little description from Wikipedia:

NWO is a conspiracy theory which refers to the advent of a cryptocratic or totalitarian one-world government.

The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a powerful and secretive elite of globalists is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an autonomous world government, which would replace sovereign states and other checks and balances in international power struggles. Significant occurrences in politics and finance are speculated to be caused by an extremely influential cabal operating through many front organizations. Numerous historical and current events are seen as steps in an on-going plot to achieve world domination through secret political gatherings and decision-making processes.

One hip-hop figure — who is in the know about all this — is KRS-One and spoke on it recently during an interview, which appears on a documentary style film called “The Obama Deception.”

“If they controlled it before, what makes you think they’re not controlling it now?” he asked. “The country was on the verge of revolution. They threw a black man up, now we like this (complacent). They put a black face on the New World Order and now we all happy. KRS ain’t buying it.”

Since those statements, KRS has received flack from the African-American community for his lack of support of the first black president. But, it’s something he understand and is ok with as long as his message gets across.

“F*** all the dumb sh**, he is the President and he has people that he must answer to that are not me and are not you and they don’t have our interest in mind,” KRS explains. “No government does in that sense. It’s about people power, so in that instance I’m not ashamed of the message. I don’t disagree with the message of ["The Obama Deception"], but KRS is a little deeper than the movie projects.”

Now, Hip-Hop has it’s legends. Held aloft on the mountains of commercial success, or the arse end of the Eighties. But what about the others?

Sure, we know of Dre, the Wu, the 18th Letter, L. Krishna, the niggles with anger, Dre 3k and the Boi. Marshall, Cliff and Reggie etc etc.

Its about time a few others got a mention, a few that possibly slipped under the radar of our die-hard reader(s).

I present to you, the first Unsung Hero of the Hop. Dj Sub-Roc.

Perhaps best known as the launching pad for one M.F. Doom, Kausing Much Damage personified the early boom-bap sound that underpinned hip-hop throughout the nineties. While later Doom efforts showcased his ear for the obscure sample, under the moniker Zev-Love X – his K.M.D sound kept the ingredients rather simple.

Base heavy, Check. Dusty break loop, Check. One bad-ass New-York Eazy-E sounding sibling, Check. While there is no doubt that Zev helped define the style of the group, it was his younger brother Sub-Roc who truly flourished over K.M.D’s distinct drowned percussion.

Just before the completion of the controversial second album Black Bastards, Sub-Roc was struck by a car and killed. A true loss to any fan of expression and more poignently, real hip-hop.

What Sub-Roc embodied more than anything, was a trait solely lacking in hip-hop in recent times. Fun.

Without getting too nostalgic and preachy. Hip-hop truly has lost that spirit that brought it out of the grid systems of New York, the sound systems of Herc and Co, and into the living room of the middle class gin-drinking yuppie.

It didn’t have to threaten to entertain, sure it could and would at times, but it had a point to prove to its fellow genres (no, not you emo! before then). It certainly proved its point, perhaps too much I would argue – given the parody it exudes at times. Perhaps the cover of Black Bastards was not controversial, rather, prophetic of things to come.

Do you remember when emcees had fun over a track?

If not, then I urge you to turn the volume up, anything less than a Spinal Tap eleven is truly sacrilege.

Ternyata, yang namanya kuliah itu ribet! Beda ama sekolah! Pertama kali masuk kuliah, disuruh ngambil KRS, bulak-balik digedung dekanat. Udah itu, KRS nya harus dikasiin ke dosen wali, baru ke SBP in. KRS? Dekanat? Dosen Wali? SBP? Bahasa apa itu? Hoho.

Gw sendiri baru ngejalanin kuliah ini baru seminggu. Ok, so far so good. Masih terlihat menyenangkan. Ketemu ama temen baru, dapet jadwal kuliah yang enak,  dan yang paling the best adalah: ke kampus pake damri selama kurang lebih 1 jam, and it’s daily! And fyi, kampus gw bukan di Bandung, tapi di Sumedang alias Jatinangor! Jadi musafir deh gw :|

Udah dulu ah. Kok akhir-akhir ini jadi males banget ya bawaannya kalo ngeblog? Padahal kalo dirumah banyak banget ide buat nulis, tapi pas nyampe depan pc di warnet, semuanya pada buyar. Brrrrrrr.

Selama beberapa hari di Bali (sekarang juga masih).. benar-benar deh, kagak sempat nulis blog apalagi buka facebook (ga’ ampe segininya sie,, boong..he..he…).. Dan sekarang baru sempat menulis langsung posting aja.

Part 1 : Long Road To Bali

Saya memutuskan untuk berangkat ke Bali hari Kamis malam(13/08/09), seperti biasa naik travel langganan saya. Menunggu travel yang seharusnya dating menjemput juam 6 (pm),, malah molor hingga jam 8, benar-benar B.O.R.I.N.G. menunggu 2 jam itu. Setelah dijemput, ternyata perjalanan selalu saja tidak seperti yang saya harapkan. Sempat kaget juga karena sebagian penumpang adalah cowo’ (langsung membayangkan cerita anak perawan di sarang mas-mas, emang ada ya??), untungnya mereka baik-baik saja (dan yang jelas bukan type saya semua!), dilanjutkan dengan sedikit ketegangan di perjalanan, di mana supir travel hamper menabrak mobil semen (yang dipakai buat semen jalan raya itu lho), hingga hampir menabrak bus, lumayan seru juga. Dilanjutkan kemacetan yang terjadi di hutan jati (Baluran), pokonya semua mobil berhenti dech, sampai supir juga turun dan duduk-duduk menunggu di bawah, Oya, saya lupa cerita, sebelum kemacetan, makan malam di sebuah RM dimana petugasnya sempat-sempatnya menggoda (aduh,,ga’ bangett), lantas sampai di pelabuhan, saya memutuskan untuk tetap di mobil travel. Beberapa penumpang turun. Tiba-tiba si supir balik lagi dan duduk di sebelah kursi saya (WTF??!!  nyebut pak!!), tapi Cuma beberapa detik (mungkin dia merasa saya jengkel), dia balik lagi ke kursi sopir. Akhirnya saya sampai di rumah jam 8 (am) wita.. ketemu Mommy n Daddy tercinta tentunya!!!

Part 2 : Surat Kuasa di Tolak Dosen

Seperti postingan saya sebelumnya, saya menitipkan pengisian Krs kepada seorang teman, dengan memberinya surat kuasa. Baru sampai di rumah, beberapa jam kemudian, teman menelpun dan mengatakan surat kuasa saya di tolak dosen PA (ya, bodohnya saya lupa memberi materei disana), but it’s ok,, Thanks for the couple Wida&Brian yang telah membantu

Part 3 : Mie Kocok atau Mie Cambah??

Kemarin Papa mengajak saya dan Mama untuk mencoba mie kocok (yang berlokasi disekitaran Renon, Denpasar), awalnya saya cukup excited meski tidak terlalu menyukai si rambut keriting (alias mie) itu. Sesampai disana, seperti biasa pengunjungnya buanyakk banget, kami bahkan nyaris tidak kebagian parkir. Setelah dapat parkir kami lalu duduk, langsung pesan deh.. Saat pesanan tiba (dimana saya sudah lapar sekali), saya terkejut karena mie tersebut isinya emang dicampur-campur (namanya juga mie kocok), dimana isinya 20% mie, 10% daging dan sayur, 10% kuah, dan 60% cambah. Waduh, ini kenapa tidak dikasi judul mie cambah saja sie?? Saya memang paling anti sama yang namanya kecambah (apa sie nama lainnya??,, lupa), alhasil selera makan saya langsung hilang karena mencium aroma kecambah itu.  setelah hanya menghabiskan 20% dari isi mangkok itu, saya memutuskan makan banyak kerupuk dan minum yang banyak (akhirnya kenyang juga..), Rupanya papa tau kalau anak perempuannya ini sangat tidak menikmati mie kocok kecambah itu, dengan baik hati membelikan bebek goring dalam perjalanan pulang (thanks papa n mama!!)

Part 4 : Tennessee Line

Album Daughtry ‘Leave This Town’ saya dengarkan berulang-ulang selama seminggu ini, salah satu track nya ‘Tennessee Line’ mungkin udah puluhan kali saya dengar dalam sehari, really beautiful song! Saya kecanduan lagu ini deh!!

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the Kentucky Retirement Systems (KRS) (the state’s pension system) spent over $700,000 of its medical insurance money on an ” ‘ill-advised’ real-estate deal, one that involved improper mingling of funds, a lack of basic investment research and internal conflicts of interest.”   

In 2006 KRS bought property adjacent to its Frankfort offices for $752,000, just a few months after the previous buyer paid $450,000 for it. KRS recently sold the land to the Kentucky State Police for a little over $300,000.

bahkan salah satu halaman siadin menyebutkan bahwa saya belum berhak input krs karena masalah keuangan. jelas ini ulah “pengganggu” wong saya udah bebas tagihan

seketika status facebook kawan2 sepenjuangan banjir oleh komplain siadin yang erruuuur itu.
g sempet skrinsot tapi bener dah, begitu g bisa input krs. mahasiswa udinus dengan antusias mencaci maki siadin melalui status di facebook. termasuk saya

Admin yang kewalahan menghadapi tekanan ini dengan sangat terpaksa memundurkan waktu pengisian krs udinus dari sesuai jadwal jam 9 menjadi jam 10 dan diundur lagi menjadi jam 11:30.

saya pribadi sempat berkirim pesan kepada SysAdmin1 Siadin melalui media pesan yang telah disediakan pada sore harinya setelah trafik lancar.

“haduh gan, siadin pas input krs kok kacau gtu to “

“biasa… karakteristik pengguna juga ternyata berpengaruh…”

dan menjadi pelajaran kita semua bahwa setiap system yang secure akan lebih mendorong orang-orang peretas untuk menggali lubang-lubang keamanan yang dapat di eksploitasi.
