Kuala Lumpur or KL is the capital city of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the perfect gateway into Malaysia that offers full travel destinations into the city.

It is a vibrant city that has the contrasts of old and new buildings. Within KL you will experience shopping malls, restaurants, hotels that range from budget hotels, 3 star hotels, 4 star hotels and 5 star international hotels in the city of Kuala Lumpur.

There is also an exciting nightlife in KL that one can enjoy the bright lights of the city with restaurants from fine dining to local restaurants like Malay, Chinese, Indian to international restaurants. With the Twin Towers – KLCC in the heart of the city – Golden Triangle within the surrounding hotels, the view is breath taking at night.

Kuala Lumpur is also known as the “City that Never Sleeps”. Museums, KL tower, shopping malls, history, tourist attractions like the lake gardens, art galleries and indian street & china town are the best places to be.

Malaysia Tourist Information Complex (MATIC) – A good place to begin any visit to Kuala Lumpur is the one-stop information centre, which provides a general picture of what the city and Malaysia have to offer. Audio-visual equipment provides background information on each state in the country. You can book a tour, arrange to go on a trishaw ride in the city, change your money, and book air or bus tickets to various destinations in Malaysia. International calls, facsimile and telex services are also offered. For your first taste of Malaysian cuisine, there is a restaurant in the right wing of the building. Cultural performances are held daily.

National Zoo and Aquarium – Thirteen kilometers north-east of Kuala Lumpur is the National Zoo. It contains hundreds of different species of animals, birds, and reptiles. The aquarium has an extensive collection of marine and freshwater species. Both the zoo and aquarium are open daily from 9am to 6pm.

Central Market – Fifty years ago this site was occupied by a wet market. Today, the art-deco structure of the central market is a centre for the display and development of Malaysian culture, arts and crafts. There are many performances, demonstrations, and activities offered here, including batik painting, fortune telling, shadow puppet plays, glass blowing, dance classes, art classes, and many others. The building won the coronation architecture design award in 1953.

Petaling Street – The center of Kuala Lumpur’s original chinatown. Petaling Street maintains much of its traditional atmosphere, particularly at night when vendors spread their wares out on the street. While it is possible to purchase anything from gems and incense to toys and t-shirts here, enjoying the night market is really a matter of just wandering about and enjoying its sights, sounds and energy.

Menara Kuala Lumpur ( KL Tower ) – Functioning as a telecommunications tower, the KL Tower has an observation deck for visitors to enjoy the ever dynamic skyline of Kuala Lumpur. The Tower sits on “Pineapple Hill” or Bukit Nanas which also harbours the Bukit nanas forest reserve.

Petronas Twin Tower – The world’s tallest twin towers are not to be missed. Go early for the guided tour which takes you up to the skybridge on the 41st and 42nd floors.

China Town / Petaling Street – Bargains galore! Shopping at Petaling street is fun as haggling is the main order of business. You can always get a good bargain here. Petaling street is a five minute walk away from the central market.

Dataran Merdeka / Merdeka Square -The British Union Jack was lowered for the last time here, when Malaysia gained its independence on 31st August 1957. Surrounding the square are many buildings of historical interest such as the Tudor-style royal selangor club, the national history museum, memorial library and St Mary’s cathedral, a gothic-style church.

Little India or Masjid India is simply splendid! Chaos reigns with motorbikes tooting, people jostling, peddlars shouting and hailers blaring Hindi music amidst colourful displays of Indian fabrics, home wares and the most current movies. Awaken the senses to the smell of incense, spices and curries wafting from every corner. A delightful experience not to be missed!

Kuala Lumpur, the hub of Malaysia, is one of the most visited tourist destinations around the world. Situated midway down the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is near the meeting place of the Klang and Gombek rivers. It is the largest city in Malaysia with a population of over one and a half million from all of Malaysia’s several ethnic groups.

Kuala Lumpur is boarders by the Titiwangsa Mountains in the east and Indonesia’s Sumatra Island in the west. It possesses a year-round equatorial climate which is warm and sunny, along with abundant rainfall, particularly during the southwest monsoon from September to April. Some times a phenomenon known as the ‘haze’ occurs in this place due to the forest fires on nearby Sumatra Island which typically lasts for 1 to 2 weeks.

Kuala Lumpur has a lot to offer for tourists as well as for native people alike. Cheap and reasonable packages are available for short trips to this wonderful city. Some part of the city was renovated recently while the other parts of the city remain unchanged. This scattered modernization made the city more attractive for both the city’s modern attractions and its historical and cultural appeal. You can feel the history and culture of Kuala Lumpur from its open air markets and Chinese and Hindu temples.

Merdeka Square, the field where Malaysian independence was first declared, is one of the major historic attractions in Kuala Lumpur. Visitors can experience an aspect of Islamic life in Jamek Mosque and Chow Kit Market is best for shopping and dining. It is considered as the largest market in the city.
At Lake Gardens visitors can watch some of the exotic birds in their natural settings. Adventure-seeking visitors can choose the steep limestone routes at Batu Caves. Aquaria, Kuala Lumpur’s aquarium, is the best place for animal enthusiasts. It has around 5000 varieties of tropical fishes.

Merdeka Square with the world’s tallest flag pole, the Sultan Abdul Samad building, Old City Hall, The Royal Selangor Club, and St. Mary’s Cathedral are also worth visiting. Tugu Negara, the national monument for war dead, will be a major attraction for history buffs and art enthusiasts. Istana Negara, the national palace, is home to Malaysia’s constitutional monarch and this sight is also worth seeing. Seen of changing of guards ceremony from the main gate of the palace will be an enchanting experience for the visitors and natives alike.

Visitors can enjoy a fantastic nightlife in Kuala Lumpur. The Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, the home of well-known Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, is an enchanting evening spot. Istana Budaya is best for watching play and for dinning you can go to China Town, Little Indian, and Golden Triangle areas. You can taste either of traditional Chinese, North Indian, and Tamil cuisine. Bukit Bintang is considered as the largest shopping district in Kuala Lumpur. You can also spend time in Central Market and Chinatown for shopping purpose.

Superb accommodation facilities are available in Kuala Lumpur, the versatile capital of Malaysia. Availability of good accommodation in the city made it a favorite destination among the travelers. Visitors can enjoy excellent sightseeing, entertainment, nightlife and accommodation with high facilities. Charming scenery, eye-catching skyscrapers, striking tropical gardens and numerous traditional buildings are what lure each tourist often comes across in this city.

In addition to it, the friendly nature of the native people makes the tourists happy and makes their trip even more comfortable and enjoyable.
Kuala Lumpur is the capital as well as the largest city in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it is fo

Kuala Lumpur is the capital as well as the largest city in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it is fondly known, is located in a valley enclosed by jagged hills, on the west coast of the Peninsular Malaysia. Occupying an area of about 250 square kilometers, Kuala Lumpur is an enclave in Selangor – a state of Malaysia, and is one among the three Malaysian Federal Territories, others being Putrajaya and Labuan.

A mining settlement during the late 1800s, Kuala Lumpur has now become a bustling metropolis, and serves not only as the capital but also the cultural as well as legislative center, since it is the seat of the parliament of the country. In addition, the city leads the country’s fast-paced growth in sectors such as finance and banking, trade and commerce, manufacturing, transportation, tourism, and information technology.

When comes to attractions, Kuala Lumpur has aplenty to offer. Among which, not to miss ten attractions in the city are:

Merdeka Square – Also known as Dataran Merdeka or Independence Square, Merdeka Square stands as the old colonial core of the city. The focal point of Merdeka Square is the flagpole of 328ft, which is the tallest of its kind in the world. It is also the place where the Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time during the midnight on August 31, 1957 when Malaysia attained independence. Highlights in Merdeka Square also include the National History Museum, Royal Selangor Club, and Sultan Abdul Samad Building, reflecting Moorish architectural style.

Petronas Towers – Probably, the greatest among the attractions of the city is the Petronas Twin Tower, which is truly a modern architectural splendor. They are one of the tallest in the world, and consist of 88 floors. Both the towers are joined at its 41st and 42nd floor by a sky bridge. Entry to the tower is free. Found within the buildings are concert and conference halls, prayer room for Muslims, and a museum of the Petronas Oil Company. Further, at the foot of this 452 meters tall building is Suria KLCC, a trendy shopping mall selling branded items, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Petrosains Discovery Center.

Batu Caves – Situated about 12 km north of the city, Batu Caves are a must-see attraction. A sacred spot for Hindus – Batu Caves include three main caves, apart from several small caves. Of the caves here, the biggest as well as the most popular is the Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, which as the name suggests, has a myriad of shrines, Sri Subramania Swamy Temple being the significant. Further, the area is thronged by a large number of devotees during the annual event, Thaipusam, which falls in every January.

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station – Erected in 1910, Kuala Lumpur is a magnificent Moorish-style building built during the period of British rule. Its minarets, arches, and spires are truly incredible.

Masjid Jamek – Otherwise known as Friday Mosque, Masjid Jamek is a historic structure located at the confluence of the Sungei Klang and the Sungei Gombak rivers. Designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and opened in 1909 – it is a tranquil area set among shady palm trees.

Masjid Negara – Masjid Negara or National Mosque is the largest mosque in South-east Asia. Completed in 1965, the main prayer hall within the mosque can accommodate up to 10000 people. The centerpiece of the mosque is the splendid 18-point dome resembling a star. Each of the points represents 13 states of the country as well as the five pillars of the Islam.

Chinatown – A stroll along the vibrant area of Chinatown would be a great experience, and allows you to come through a variety of temples, vendors selling traditional medicines, and several pet shops.

Taman Negara – A visit to the city would not be complete without taking a tour to Taman Negara or National Park, boasting of some of the world’s oldest rainforest. The area is especially noted for its diverse flora and fauna. A great way to explore the area via a trekking along the trails found here. Apart from this, the park also has excellent options for activities like climbing, river rafting, fishing, and bird watching. Also, a unique thing is that some of the areas within the Taman Negara are inhabited by nomadic Orang Asli people.

Lake Gardens – Sprawling over an area of about 200 acres, Lake Gardens is a beautiful tourist spot developed more than 100 years ago. Attractions found here, among many others, are the Orchid and Hibiscus Gardens, the Butterfly Park, and the Bird Park.

National Science Center – This is an exceptional spot with a number of galleries exhibiting important as well as interesting items.

A blend of old and new worlds, Kuala Lumpur’s attractions also covers a number of interesting museums such as the National Museum, the Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial, the Police Museum, the KL Natural History Museum, and the Islamic Art Museum. Above all, KL is a shoppers’ paradise, with an array of shopping malls selling everything from electronic and apparels to antique and handicraft items.

The growing number of tourists to the city has led to tremendous increase in the number of high-end hotels and resorts. Since many of them have their own websites, this allows for easy bookings of hotels online.

I’ve been thinking about where KL will be in the near future, since the first day Raja Nong Chik sat on the FT Minister’s chair. Maybe Raja Nong Chik wants to make KL as Malaysia’s centre of economic, but seeing Raja Nong Chik care more about people’s welfare make me think that he might want to make KL as a nice place for every sector and for every level of Malaysians.

He can say by words how he wants KL to be, but we can only understand it by what kind of changes he makes in order to achieve what he targeted.

Here is an article I took from Berita Harian Online, about one of the aims that Raja Nong Chik had talked about.

Today, date, 30th September 2009, the last day of the month is very special…three natural disa

Today, date, 30th September 2009, the last day of the month is very special…three natural disasters occured on the same day, in the period of 24 hours around the world.

First of all, the Typhoon Ketsana, originated from the world largest ocean, Pacific Ocean, extended its path to South East Asia from Phillipines. It blows down wooden villages in Cambodia, crushing Vietnam houses under mudslides, submerging much of the capital of Phillipines, while bringing heavy rain to Malaysia. The typhoon come into Laos, the fourth nation to be involved in the typhoon tragedy. Landslides occured, destroying houses, buildings, and flattening crops. The death toll is now over 300 and is rising tremendously.

The next disaster, is the tsunamis, struck Samoa and America Samoa. The earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, between 8.0 to 8.3 Ritcher scale triggered tsunamis, flooding and flattening villages, killing at least 82 people and leave dozens missing. The height of the tsunamis is around 4 to 6m high, equivalent to a height of a double-storey house. A state of emergency is issued. Japan has issued a tsunami warning too.

The third disaster, struck just now, less than an hour ago (from the time I’m writing this post), is an earthquake that struck south Sumatra Island in the area of Padang, Indonesia. The powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 Ritcher scale send tremors till Peninsular Malaysia (the place I’m living) as the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is just 481km southwest of the epicentre of the earthquake. Some highrise buildings in KL including the world tallest twin buildings, the Petronas Twin Towers are evacuated. Tsunami alert is issued for Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Thailand. The shaking can be felt obviously at Singapore, Malaysia and even as far as at Jakarta.

Out of the three disasters, two are related to Pacific Ocean, and two are basically earthquakes, one triggered tsunamis, while another one might trigger as well. Dangerous again for the people there…just stay far from seaside and stay on the ground, don’t go to high if there is earthquake, and go as high as possible when there is flood. Three disasters are all related to water!

Water is dangerous, the Earth is dangerous! I think it’s the first time in history, three large-scale disasters struck the Earth ( all in one area, Asia Pacific) eventhough not much casualties are reported.

Malaysia Country of the Thief Polemik kebudayaan yang terjadi antara Indonesia dan Malaysia akhir-a

Malaysia Country of the Thief

You might be wondering what I am writing about? Below are all the answers for your questions. Who is

You might be wondering what I am writing about? Below are all the answers for your questions.

Who is he?

He is Alain Robert.

Still don’t recognize him?

He is nicknamed as French Spiderman.

Why?

Climbing skyscrapers are his interest and he has climbed more than 85 structures ranging from monuments to skyscrapers around the world.

What are the famous structures he has climbed?

Empire State Building, Taipei 101, Willis Tower, Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Jin Mao Tower, Petronas Twin Towers, etc.

What he did today? (see title)

He had successfully climbed the former world tallest buildings and current world tallest twin buildings, the 452m tall Petronas Twin Towers today, 1st Spetember 2009, the day after Malaysia celebrated its 52nd independence.

When he did that?

This early morning, to be precise; DAWN. From 6.00am till 7.40am. The time is the time when the guards and the public are not aware of him. As soon as they aware of it, he climbed to the top of the tower.

Which tower he climbed?

Tower 2. He climbed from bottom to top of the 88 storeys structure. He reached to the top pinnacle, standing on it, and fixed a Malaysian flag on top of the building.

Is that dangerous?

Super dangerous. No one would dare to do that except him. No safety belts, he climbed it all with bare hands in the early misty morning of Kuala Lumpur. The exterior is wet, adding difficulty to him, but he did it finally.

Why do I say ‘finally’?

It is because he had made two previous attempts before this one. Both previous ones failed, in 1997 and 2007. He tried to climb it on the year of completion of the towers (1997) and on the 10th anniversary of the towers (2007), but being stopped by security personnels on the 60th floor.

After this successful attempt, what is the consequence?

He is arrested, and will be charged on criminal tresspass, climbing a building without permission. Anyway, he had the attraction and support from the people looking at him from the ground.

What do I think of him?

Too brave, maybe he wants something challenging to do, scaling towers. He should at least wear safety belts. No one knows what will happen? Don’t risk your life just like that. Think of others. Get permission first. Anyway, he did a good job.

The video from YouTube showing him scaling the tower today:

Did I see it?

No, I didn’t. It’s too early and no one would expect him climbing the tower today. I have just woke up by the time he reached the pinnacle.

Few days ago, my sister planned to bring me and my dad to have a great buffet as dinner at the famous Jogoya Restaurant in Starhill Gallery, KL. The price is really expensive; almost RM 90 per person.

Honestly, this is the first time I’m entering Starhill. KL people like me don’t used to get into KL frequently because of traffic jams. Yes, yesterday night, same thing happened, TRAFFIC JAM, all along the roads near Pavillion.

(Inside the Starhill, cool design)

Anyway, it gave me some time to have a nice night view of KL skyline. Looking up high and viewing the newly-built Pavillion Towers is my interest. Many foreigners are seen walking around, in the crowd, in the busiest area of KL, Bukit Bintang area, or so called, The Golden Triangle of KL.

Okay, time for a great dinner (actually a supper) in Jogoya, a Japanese restaurant. This is a very huge restaurant, you might get lost in the restaurants. Many food are available, mainly seafood. Dim sum, sushi, soups, dessert, puddings, jelly, fruits, chocolates, cakes, cookies, breads, drinks, alcoholic drinks, etc are all there.

(The signboard, cool)

(In the restaurant, can accomodate a lot of people at a time because it is huge)

(A poster found promoting the restaurant)

(The food are delicious, very fresh seafood are served here)

From 10.00pm to 12.00am (two hours time), we tried to eat as much as possible. Finally, we are all full, too full. The interior designs of the restaurant are cool. Really love the feeling of having a delicious dinner in the restaurant. The services from the staff is excellent too, they will introduce you to the restaurant at the beginning if you are new here.

I managed to recover about 95% of the photos on the broken harddisk thanks to a free piece of software called DiskDigger. After a format I also recovered the harddisk so also that is working again. So, what did I learn? Save photos on 2 different disks, even on a holiday…

In 3 days we have to work again… THAT’s gonna be hard after 5 weeks holiday… Feel sorry for us…? please…? just a little bit…?

NSD 28

We decided to do something else today… we skipped shopping (well… al least for the morning ) and we went to the Bird park here in Kuala Lumpur. The Bird Park is “The World’s Largest Covered Bird Park” or “The World’s largest Free Flight Aviary” and houses more than 3,000 birds and 200 species from all over the world. Only a stone’s throw from the Bird Park is the colourful and beautifully landscaped Butterfly Park where over 6,000 butterflies from 120 species roam and fly freely in a simulated natural rainforest environment, so since we were in the neighbourhood anyway… we also went there. Because of the temperature and the fact that it was Friday, we went back to the hotel well before 2 o’clock. Why? Well in Kuala Lumpur there is a huge Muslim community and of course Friday is the day all the Muslim people want to go to the Mosque. Most of them here go to the biggest Mosque of Malaysia, the Blue Mosque or The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque between 1 and 2 o’clock so when they are finished praying Kuala Lumpur is just full… no car can go back or forward for a few hours…

NSD 26 We left Lembeh 2 days earlier and went to Bangka Island, our last Indonesia stop. The resort

NSD 26

We left Lembeh 2 days earlier and went to Bangka Island, our last Indonesia stop. The resort on Bangka was very nice and we were the only !!! guests until the 13th when other people arrived. That was a special feeling to have a complete resort for yourself! The only problem on the island is that they don’t have internet so we couldn’t post anything…

From Bangka Island we went back to Sulawesi one day to visit the Tangkoko National Park. This park is a huge piece of jungle, somehow protected (we couldn’t see how…) but very beautiful.
In the park we saw a huge family of macaque monkeys and the smallest primate in the world: the Tarsier.

Now we are back in Kuala Lumpur again where we will enjoy our last few days of this holiday. Of course we have to do some shopping and we promised our self some nice food…

As you see we posted some more photos already and we are making a summary on the diving the last three weeks.
We also want to review the resorts we have been, maybe as a reference for people who are planning Indonesia?
