Tigress and Viper, the heroine characters from Kungfu Panda have also been my daughter’s favorite. Taking taekwando at school, she has developed a sense of awareness towards martial arts and the beauty and sharpness of each body movements. The movements are also dance-like, choreographed to perfection and balanced out with nature.

For all the moves by tigers and snakes known to mankind…

Love from the woods.. It is picture perfect to have the sun and the trees. Drawing nature is part of learning and making sense of our surroundings. Children also love drawing the animals and rainbows. In my experience, children may copy from various sources. For an example, my daughter had paused Kungfu Panda movie so that she could draw Tigress, one of the sidekick warriors. Once, she drew Marie from the Aristocats just by looking at a few stickers in her collection.

Mr. Panda’s colleagues were chatting with him over lunch the other day. And one of them was suddenly struck by my darling’s resemblance to a certain cartoon character:

*roll eyes*

Abby’s Mummy could have told them that ages ago!

I don’t know…maybe it’s the tummy? Or the dark undereye circles? Or perhaps even the fact that Mr. Panda’s name is actually “Po(h)”?

He himself was struck by the similarities when we first watched the show in a cinema. When it ended, Mr. Panda said “Quick, let’s get out of here before the kids in that corner start making their way out!”

Mr. Panda, I know you hate being called that. I just wanted to tell you that people will say all kinds of things, but as far as I’m concerned, you’re still the best-lookin’, kungfu fightin’, hawker-food lovin’ cutie that ever saved China! And I can’t wait to be Mrs. Kungfu Panda (minus the tummy and dark undereye circles lah).

I used to think that watching a show surrounded by hundreds of western tourists is not my thing at all. I am Chinese so I know China already, why would I even want to watch the same show with tourists?

Well, glad I put away that silly bias of mine, and enjoyed a great show tonight. My 6 year old boy is a die-hard fan of Kungfu Panda. So being a good mother, I took him to the Shaolin Kungfu Show at the Red Theatre.

The show’s choreography, stage production, sound production are all of international quality. The performers’ Kungfu are at par with the real kungfu show at the Shaolin Temple itself. For any of Kungfu Panda’s young fans, this is a must see in Beijing. Here are a few logistical details:

The show is on at the Red Theatre daily at 7:30pm. You can buy tickets at the door or online. If you are a WildChina client, this show is recommended to families traveling with children. But, I would even suggest adding this to anyone who’s coming to China for the first time.

I’ve wathed too many movies  to remember each of them, so why don’t I have reviews for each! That can help me keep them in mind, and my favorite can somehow be more considered… I think :”)

Rating 7,8 as IMDb, not a high rank, but I think this film should be more concerned! Such a really funny cartoon that I couldn’t stop laughing when seeing it! Furthermore, you can see Jack Black (one of my brother’s idol”s” ), Jolie (my one :”>), Jackie Chan and even Lucy Liu took part in casting as voice! Perhaps I’m an Asian so I should like Asian ones, but I think once anyone see this film, they’ll definitely have a great time!

OSLO (Reuters) – A giant fossil sea monster found in the Arctic and known as “Predator X” had a bite that would make T-Rex look feeble, scientists said Monday.

The 50 ft (15 meter) long Jurassic era marine reptile had a crushing 33,000 lbs (15 tonnes) per square inch bite force, the Natural History Museum of Oslo University said of the new find on the Norwegian Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

“With a skull that’s more than 10 feet long you’d expect the bite to be powerful but this is off the scale,” said Joern Hurum, an associate professor of vertebrate paleontology at the museum who led the international excavation in 2008.

“It’s much more powerful than T-Rex,” he said of the pliosaur reptile that would have been a top marine predator. Tyrannosaurus Rex was a top land carnivore among dinosaurs.

The scientists reconstructed the predator’s head and estimated the force by comparing it with the similarly-shaped jaws of alligators in a park in Florida.

“The calculation is one of the largest bite forces ever calculated for any creature,” the Museum said of the bite, estimated with the help of evolutionary biologist Greg Erickson from Florida State University.

Predator X’s bite was more than 10 times more powerful than any modern animal and four times the bite of a T-Rex, it said of the fossil, reckoned at 147 million years old. Alligators, crocodiles and sharks all now have fearsome bites.

The teeth of the pliosaur, belonging to a new species, were a foot (30 cms) long. The scientists reconstructed the reptile from a partial skull and 20,000 fragments of skeleton.

The pliosaur, estimated to have weighed 45 tonnes, was similar to but had more massive bones than another fossil sea monster found on Svalbard in 2007, also estimated at 50 feet long and the largest pliosaur to date.

“It’s not complete enough to say it’s really bigger than 15 meters,” Hurum said of the new fossil.

Hurum had said of the first fossil pliosaur that it was big enough to chomp on a small car. He said the bite estimates for the latest fossil forced a rethink.

“This one is more like it could crush a Hummer,” he said. referring to General Motors’ large sport utility vehicle.

Among other findings were that the pliosaur had a small thin brain shaped like that of a great white shark, according to scans by Patrick Druckenmiller of the University of Alaska.

Pliosaurs preyed upon squid-like animals, fish, and other marine reptiles. Predator X had four huge flippers to propel itself along, perhaps using just two at cruising speeds and the others for a burst of speed.

60th Sapporo Snow Festival

On the fifth day, we visited a fish market in the morning and then spend the whole evening touring event sites for the 60th Sapporo Snow Festival.

The market offers an array of fresh seafood products as well as processed products. We also popped by a fruits and vegetable market where we had a quick bento breakfast.

Thereafter, we went to look at a snow sculpturing competition and made snowmen, part of the programs for the Sapporo Snow Festival. Rachel had a lot of fun making snowmen. In fact, while all of us made one snowman each, Rachel made a second one to replace her first one as she was not satisfied with it’s appearance. As all these activities were outdoor, we were all freezing ourselves to death and did not stay there for too long. The cold damaged Rachel’s head and she kept pestering me with silly questions like whether it was possible to “make the snowmen come alive”.

We had pipping hot Hokkaido soup curry for lunch. This was one of the best meal we had in Japan. The restaurant is called Soup Curry Rasata – click here to visit their official website. You get to choose the degree of hotness for your soup curry, going from one to ten chilli. Mark took the nine chilli option, I chose three, Meiyen chose five and Rachel chose zero. In the end, we figured the average Singaporean can probably take the seven chilli option, being more accustomed to spicy food than the Japanese. All four of us were extremely hungry from the coldness in the morning and promptly emptied all our bowls in double quick time.

Although we were already very tired at this point, the four of us still dragged our feet to the shopping belt where we were at the previous night to check out the lighted ice sculptures. Although smaller in sizes, they were equally fascinating for us, having come from a 24-7 sweltering hot, tropical country where we only get to see snow when we travel abroad.

We had a sumptious dinner that night at the ramen street which we recce the previous night. We chose the restaurant that had the longest queue. It was a very small restaurant with only counter seats and can only accommodate six customers at any one time. We decided to split into groups of two so we can go in faster instead of waiting for a vacant row of four seats.Being the gentlemen we were, Mark and I let the ladies dine first. The ingrates took photos of us from the inside and slurped up their noodle while eyeing our pitiful, hungry expressions. When Mark and I got in, we devoured our ramen as if we haven’t eaten for weeks.

This was the longest and most tiring day throughout our entire Japan trip as we did the most walking on this day. In fact, my feet developed blisters that night and it continued to hurt for the rest of our trip. Then again, the experience of the 60th Sapporo Snow Festival was definitely worth it.
