SLurl: Kunstkammer Architectural and Metaphysical Salvage Main Store.

So, after I did my Poppins Jump, I had to get dressed.  I mean, I couldn’t run around the grid bare-arsed nekkid, now could I??  So, this outfit started out with the comfy cozy scarf from Kunstkammer – this one only a linden for now.  Grab it quick!  I added the gift sweater from Moonshine at Winterstock, along with one of my all-time favorite skirts, which is on sale right now, from Nyte N’ Day.  I couldn’t resist putting my Sn@tch Cowboy Boots of Evil back on.  I just can’t seem to take these off for some reason.  I just love ‘em.  And this is how it turned out:

Of course, I had to put on my Happy Birthday Tiara from Dark Mouse and my birthday cupcake “hat” from Milestone Creations.  All in all, it was a nice beginning to my third year as a resident.

Okay, so we’re going to look at high-waisted pants in a 3-post series.  First, if you haven’t read Denim One, go check it out; it discusses factors to be considered in a pair of jeans (or any pair of pants), and I’ll be building on it.

Now, let’s talk about the yoke, the high-waistedness of the pants. How high is the waistline? There are several different approaches to designing a high-waisted pant.  Long line of buttons?  Long zipper, with a few buttons?  Double set of buttons, sailor-style?  What do the buttons look like, compared to one another? The last pair has in interesting approach, with a double set of regular jeans waistbands.  The seaming of these pants also becomes both more important and more interesting — take a good look at how each jean has done their seams.  It’s especially interesting, I think, to look at how the rear view has been handled.

Let’s also compare the pants in general. The first major difference I see in these jeans is the texture — we’ve got a rough, coarse fabric; a stiff new denim, a thin, soft denim, and a pair that look like I’ve owned them for a while and broken them in.  The pockets vary quite a bit: take a look at the shapes of the pockets themselves, as well as their placement on the buttock.

Of the four pairs shown here, three are skinnier-fit, though the length and shape of the prims are different.  The one wide-legged pair of jeans actually has flexi attachments, which of course gives them a very unique sense of movement (which may not suit everyone), compared with most jeans on the grid.

Now, what to do with high-waisted jeans?  It’s funny, when I picture high-waisted jeans, I always either imagine a rural country belle with natural beauty, or a terribly stylish urban fashionista.  I’m sure other people wear them — after all, jeans are a sort of global casual uniform at this point.  But that’s just the way I picture them.  In this case, I decided to go the country belle route, largely because I’ve been looking for a good excuse to use this awesome Hay Ride Photo Set.  Petite Morte has been creating a series of photo sets that tend to be moodier, which suits me.  Some are phantom, so you’ll want to be sure you’re dropping them on a level surface.

About the other stuff I’m wearing.  Hair is from Tiny Bird, and I love the assymetric wild messiness of it.  It’s amazingly versatile and goes with a variety of looks.  The skin is Curio’s latest, available at the Skin Fair, and it has an innocence to it that’s really lovely.  Ingenue, of vintage clothing fame, has been releasing a series of Vintage Basics, like this blouse, that while vintage still have modern wearability.  Finally, the jewelry is from Kunstkammer, and I fell in love the first time I spotted it in the store.  It’s so ornate, and elegant, and again a bit vintage, and I love the large scale of the pieces.  The textures are stunning, as is the primwork.

wie vielleicht ein paar von euch gelesen haben, gibt es seit heute einen boycott um LL ein wenig wachzurütteln. ich für meinen teil möchte sowas gerne unterstützen, allerdings scheint mir ein boycott auf diese weise nicht unbedingt der einzige sinnvolle weg zu sein. meine erfahrenswerte hier in SL sind sicherlich noch nicht so ausgereift, wie die manch anderer,..bin ja noch nicht soooo lange dabei. dennoch glaube ich, dass so eine demo nur dann wirkung zeigt, wenn wirklich alle aktiv daran teilnehmen. und da ich heute aufmerksam andere seiten beobachtet habe und man schrecklich wenig von einem boycott mitbekommen hat, wird diese aktion wohl, wie viele andere vorher auch, eher versanden. so ein imperium wie LL juckt es nicht sonderlich viel, wenn vergleichsweise eine handvoll user hartnäckig durchhalten….und zeitgleich millionen andere dennoch ihrem konsumdrang nachgehen und die LL-kassen klingeln lassen. schade eigentlich,…aber das ist die “realität” in unserer virtuellen welt

Just a reminder that tonight is the last night for the ALBERO Autumn Fair! I wish I’d had more time at this fair, it really was beautiful in ALBERO with the trees tinted in autumn colors and there was some wonderful stuff on the tables. I’ll show you some of my favorite finds here at the eleventh hour — there is still a little time to run over and grab something you missed!

First, the brown and blue Wish dress from Katat0nik. I love this simple dress in earthy fairytale colors — this just says storybook to me! The fun striped stockings come with the dress or are sold separately beside the table.

Next up, Mocha’s Autumnal Twilight dress — a turtleneck and jumper that is perfect for fall. It comes in three dark shades and you can wear the pieces separately so really you’re getting two items in one. Finally, my third absolute favorite Autumn Fair stop is Kunstkammer. What beautiful things! Designer Nuala Shippe has outdone herself with special Autumn Fair versions of her Dreamscaping landscaping goodies — grass and two kinds of trees in a special “Autumn Fire” color. Her tables also include some great jewelry — I’m wearing her necklace and ring in the photo below.

Amazingly, all the Kunstkammer items are just 50L — that’s including the trees! Run, run, run to Kunstkammer and stock up on these gorgeous finds while you can.

There are times when a certain item immediately catches your eye, and you know instantly what you will do with it.  This happened to me several months ago as I was shopping in Kyoot.  I hadn’t been to Kyoot in quite some time and had decided to go and see what was new.  While shopping, I saw something white out of the corner of my eye and immediately turned and walked toward it.  Before it even finished rezzing, I knew it would be perfect for Halloween.  I was not wrong.  Straight Jacket Surrealist brings the Halloween to Couture. The only thing left to do was buy it and figure out which direction to take.

As I stood in the loft going through my inventory trying on this and that, I began to brainstorm.  My first thought was maybe a Mummy, so I added the Boxer Arm Wraps from Urban Dare.  But then, because this dress has fabulous stitches here and there, I thought it could be used for a fabulously modern twist on Frankenstien’s Bride (I still think that could work).  And then, I began trying on skins.  When I put on the Julana III, Bleeding Hearts by DaeSkins my inner vampire (yes, I do have one) stood up, pointed at that dress and said “This is fabulous and it is MINE!”  And so, vampire it was.

But first, just a few words about the Straight Jacket Surrealist by Kyoot.  I LOVE this dress.  It’s just so exquisitely different and the name is a perfect description of the design. While some may be hesitant at the one bare side, I found that it added to the overall asthetic this dress was tyring to convey.  But fear not, if you’re not comfortable leaving one side of you bare, it does come with a black undershirt that can be worn with to cover the breast area.  I chose to just put on a pair of pasties instead, but you could certainly wear it the other way if you so desired.  The texture on this is stunning…all the delicate shading and stitches here and there are incredibly well done, and the sculpty skirt, collar, and sleeve are fantastic.  But it’s the straps that I love the most.  They really just…complete…this design. 

Now where was I?  Oh yes…my inner vampire had staked her claim.  (pun not intended)

Julana III by DaeSkins (couldn’t find a current location but the creator is Daequix Scarborough) in Bleeding Hearts is really a lovely skin.  The attention to detail is nice…the blood dripping from the eyes and mouth is paler than on most skins you see, and the blackness around the eyes is quite intense.  It’s also a lovely skin tone; it’s that perfect shade of undead…not too white, but by no means normal looking.  I like that the nails are already black, freeing up my attatchment point for the Boxer Wraps from Urban Dare.  I liked them so much I kept them, but switched to the “bloody” option to continue with the theme of “vampire.” I also added the blood spatter tattoo from Urban Dare because a vampire can never have too much blood.  We’ll just say she’s a messy eater.  Speaking of which, I added a pair of freebie fangs I got last Halloween on a hunt.  These very delicate looking fangs randomly drip large drops of blood.  They’re really fun to photograph and again continued the theme of the freshly fed vampire.

This pose is from one of LostAngel’s Halloween releases:  The Crypt Crawler.  It comes with several poses and this quite realistic looking skull and a changing tombstone depending on which pose you’re using.  Oh, and bones too!  If you’ve not checked out the Halloween room at LostAngel, definitely head over there.  All of the poses and props are fantastically done and so fun to play with.  But then, one should expect nothing less from LostAngel. If I wasn’t on a budget, I’d buy every single one of them.

For hair, I chose the Nyx hair by Goldie Locks and tinted it a fun shade of red.  What better hair for a vampire than one named after the Goddess of night?  It really was perfect for this look.  For the eyes and eyelashes, I wanted something out of the ordinary yet stunning.  The eyes are from Kunstkammer and are the Halloween08 HYPNOEYES and are only 1L.  Check out the trunk sale at the entrance. There’s a lot of fantastic stuff there!  The eyelashes are from [glow] Studio:  Avantgarde Abstract.  I’m not really sure how to describe these lashes except that they remind me of somewhat of lace and are dramatic enough to look right with this amazing dress from Kyoot.

That left the shoes, and I wanted something that worked with the dress but was still sexy and stunning.  I chose the Athena Heels in Panda by Tesla.  They have this sort of old-world charm to them, yet still look modern and sexy. 

Because of the large collar on the dress, I didn’t wear a necklace.  I did, however, add some earrings from Alienbear: La Fleur in red.
 
The photos were shot in the cemetary on Oubliette, home to Balderdash, Evie’s Closet, and more. If you’ve not explored Oubliette, you’re missing out.  It is truly a stunning work of art and also one of the most peaceful places I’ve found on the grid.
 
And so there you have yet another mix and match masterpiece.  I like this one so much, I think it just might be my Halloween costume this year. Speaking of Halloween, MDR is having a Halloween party.  I’ll be posting the details in a few days so look for that.

So in answer to the question posed by the title of this post, yes.  A vampire can definitely be Kyoot!

Trust me, it was hard to choose just one.  I have so many favorites in my closet.  However, this one is one that stands toward the top for me.  Designed by Kimmera Madison of Tres Beau, it is absolutely and positively stunning.

When I’m wearing Divalicious I feel positively sleek and sophisticated, like a diva!  It’s beautifully done stripes bring interest to the outfit in a way that just draws the eyes in.  The hat is simply brimming with beauty as well, topped by the white flower.  This lovely ensemble has you ready for a star studded luncheon or suave fashion show.

Truth be known, I wear it “around the house” just for fun because I love the look so much!  It’s fashionable, classy, sexy, and, well, perfect!

The sheer scarf at the neckline completes the outfits as it trails down the back and the feathered skirt adds just the right touch of whimsy.

I’ve paired it perfectly with a simple pair of black pumps by Maitreya and Kunstkammer Carnival earrings.  Also worn is the fresh and sultry Leona skin by Redgrave, CCD eyelashes, and Tukinowaguma’s Donna in ebony.

Fifty Linden Fridays - Kunstkammer Moth-Attracting Bulb

First, a new release for this Fifty Linden Friday: Kunstkammer Moth-Attracting Bulb. This bulb has menu-controlled on and off states, and 9 different color choices. The different colors tint the bulb, the beam, the moths and light source (if you use the lighted version). Colors operate independently of the on and off states.

Also, I have placed an older, unisex item on sale: the Star Belt Set with black belt leather.

Week 11 you say? Can it be? It soooo is. We have some of the old favorites returning and some new stores with which I am completely unfamiliar. So, I am really looking forward to Friday. And more to be excited about there are 12 designers this week.

So what is 50L Fridays? Well every Friday, a group of creators will place an item in the front of their main store marked down to only 50L. 95% of the time this is true, but sometimes you do have to look for what ever reason. The item might be something from the store marked down, or maybe an exclusive, special item that you can’t get any other time. Each week the designers and items rotate. The items will be available from 12:01 am SLT on Friday until 11:59pm SLT on Friday, this can vary a bit from time to time when the designers get tied up . Kunstkammer is at the Cioccolata Gatcha Gatcha Festival and designer Nuala Shippe has some wonderful items in her machine! Everything is just 30L per play, which is quite a steal.

There are four sets of pretty Falling Stones earrings — play for crystal, multi green, multi pink, or multi topaz. These cute little gem clusters will look great with just about anything from casual to formal.

Also in the machine is the Surrealist Eye Collection #4, a rare Kunstkammer find. Nuala’s eyes are very distinctive and work for male, female, human and non human avatars — really they are wonderfully versatile. All six pairs of eyes are included in the prize.

The adorable pet raincloud is the third item in the gatcha machine. I love the Falling Stones earrings, but the pet raincloud is maybe my favorite prize here. Wear it around when you are in a thunderous or cloudy mood — it’s perfect! Like everything in the machine, the raincloud is transfer in case you want to give one to a friend.

These curtains have been painstakingly scripted to react naturally: they flex in the same direction as an avatar walking through, play a high-quality custom sound, and gently settle back to straight.
