Synopsis: James Bond is out for revenge and has to stop an environmentalist from seizing control of a county’s most precious resource. All the while Bond and M are also trying to figure out who the mysterious criminal group is and who works for them.

The Hype: After the success of the Casino Royale movie, this film, the first non Ian Fleming James Bond story was given the usual 007 hype and buzz around the web and other media outlets. Given a huge budget, Quantum Of Solace was expected to deliver and it certainly did that at the box office.

What I Thought: Very poor. I decided to watch this in case it bore any relation to the new Skyfall movie which is released this week. It would appear not and it was a big disappointment. There are a few reasons for this. 1. The theme tune and titles sequence were RUBBISH! I think that has to be the worst Bond theme I have ever heard. 2. The story seemed very disjointed and didn’t flow very well at all, one minute Bond was in Italy and the very next he’s taking on the bad guys in some complex in the middle of a desert. 3. The bad guy was crap. An environmentalist? please, this was the worst attempt at a bad guy since Jonathan Pryce’s media mogul in Tomorrow Never Dies tried to do a Rupert Murdoch on our asses! The only positive thing in this movie was Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko, oh and a brief appearance by Stana Katic of Castle fame. No gadgets either..wtf?

Conclusions: Poor story, poor bad guy, terrible titles which is one of the things a GOOD Bond movie should always contain. I expect MUCH more from Skyfall when I see that and judging by the trailer I’ve seen and the theme song, it’s looking good so far.

The 32-year-old Ukrainian born actress looked sporty sexy in a bodysuit by Olima Atelier with Nike sneakers and a bracelet by Gilda Grey for the Tony Kelly shot front page while dishing about everything from her money-making drive to kissing Tom Cruise.

On making her first $30 as a 15-year-old model in Moscow:

Centurion

But what Centurion most clearly demonstrates are the lessons learned from Gladiator. It is by now ten years ago that Ridley Scott revived the swords-and-sandals epic, and his massive success has led to a growing list of ever failing attempts to top it. There are Scott’s own Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood, Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy, Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Antoine Fuqua’s King Arthur, Zack Snyder’s 300 and now also Alejandro Amenábar’s Agora, which seems to be a complete film about the part of Gladiator that was the least interesting: the politicking in the forum (wake-up call Alejandro: ‘Agora’ is a Greek word, not Latin). Some of these films are decent, some are peculiar, and others are massive failures. The exact categorization changes per critic, but everyone agrees that Gladiator still stands out. Centurion is no Gladiator either, most of all because of the lack of scale and climax, but Marshall has taken a number of lessons at heart which make his film compelling and one of the little gems of my summer.

The first lesson concerns casting. Historic epics are not carried by poster-boy baby faces. No-one believes that Orloondo Bland (©Mark Kermode, 2007) can defend Jerusalem against the hordes of Saladin. And if you cast Colin Farrell – who is a fine actor – as Alexander, than you must not put a blond wig on him. Clive Owen and Gerard Butler however are convincing as war-weary or war-lusty old warriors, scarred and battered leaders of men. Troy, for al its faults, had Brad Pitt perfectly casted as Achilles: the larger than life indestructible hero. Neil Marshall has looked well at Russel Crowe in Gladiator, and saw in Michael Fassbender an aristocratic but human titular centurion

The second lesson concerns wide establishing shots taken from helicopters. These can be made over massive CGI generated armies (Alexander, Troy), armadas (Alexander) and cities (Rome, Robin Hood). But if you do not have an enormous CGI budget, like Marshall for Centurion, you take them of the landscape. So Centurion shows a lot of mountains and forests and plains covered in snow, through which from a great distance we see the heroes running from their enemies. At times a bit too Lord-of-the-Ringsy, but it looks great and Marshall makes great user of the landscape of the misty and snowy Scottish highlands. That he can do grim wilderness could of course already be seen from the final sequences of the European (read: the not-happy-end) cut of The Descent. Exploit the qualities you have, rather than aim for the unachievable.

The third and final lesson concerns battle. Gladiator opened with the incredibly intense mud-strewn battle between Romans and Barbarians. It had us at “on my signal, unleash hell!’. Centurion also offers battle from within, close to the soldiers, chaotic, frentic and extremely bloody. It hurts. It is frightening and brutal and real. Robin Hood, Alexander and King Arthur lacked greatly in this respect. Kingdom of Heaven got close, but 300 went of course over the top. But then that was an adaptation of a graphic novel.

So Centurion has the major lessons learned from Gladiator: lead actor, wide establishing shots and brutal battle: the basic ingredients of a modern swords-and-sandals epic. That supporting characters are not all equally well developed and that the third act climax disappoints are only minor drawbacks. What remains is the image of Fassbender, captured by the Picts, tortured and pissed off: “I’m a soldier of Rome, I will not yield!”

Some films that feel like they belong in the blockbuster season actually stay away from it. Avatar for instance came out just before Christmas, in order to draw the families to the cinema during the holidays and stay on the awards radar. Sherlock Holmes is a typical summer blockbuster at first sight, but was a bit too quirky and off-beat to be able to survive the annual onslaught in May and June. Thus it was a smart move to release it in the winter. The same was probably true for Roland Emmerichs apocalypse film 2012, although that could’ve done fine in the summer.

However, the majority of BLAM’s (Big Loud Action Movies) is released between April and August. These months have gradually developed into blockbuster season, since Jaws was the American summer surprise hit of 1974, and Star Wars: A New Hope drew fan boys in for consecutive viewings in 1977.

So what’s to look forward to this year?

Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon will bring Jason Bourne (well, not exactly) to Baghdad, in spy thriller/war movie The Green Zone. It is released just before the summer season really starts, which is probably good, because it might be too political and difficult to be a BLAM in the proper sense. Although it is big and loud and definitely a movie.

The really big films this year will have to be Iron Man 2 and Clash of the Titans. Iron Man was a pleasant surprise in 2008, mainly due to the charisma of its star, Robert Downey Junior. The trailers for the sequel look marvelous, but there is a grave danger lurking: the film is overcast. Next to RDJ its credits feature Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansen, Samuel L. Jackson, Sam Rockwell AND Mickey Rourke. It has at least three major villains, and is also supposed to connect to the Hulk franchise and the Avengers project. It almost sounds like a commercial for other Marvel releases and franchises than as a movie in its own right.

Clash of the Titans will be a remake of Desmond Davis’ 1981 original, this time directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk). Sam Worthington stars as Greek demi-god Perseus, who had to battle all kinds of mythical beasties to save a princess. He is joined by Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson and Gemma Arterton, while supporting roles are properly filled with decent actors. It seems more balanced than Iron Man 2.

The more serious film fans will look forward to Robin Hood, which rejoins the Gladiator success pair of Ridley Scott and Russel Crowe, who plays the titular hero in what appears to be a gritty, ‘dark’ version of the legend. It has a great supporting cast with amongst others Max von Sydow, Mark Strong, Cate Blanchett and William Hurt. The risk is of course that it will not be ‘as good’ as Gladiator, and thereby disappoint the big audience.

Whereas Scott and Crowe move on to the Middle Ages, two less known films take place in Britain in the time of the Roman Empire. Centurion, properly taglined ‘Fight or Die’, seems most interesting. A splinter group of Roman soldiers has to fight its way back to safety after their legion has been ambushed and annihilated. It has a strong cast, headed by the amazing Michael Fassbender. Supporting roles are filled by Olga Kurylenko (the Bond girl from Quantum of Solace), Dominic West and David Morrissey. Centurion will have stern competition from The Eagle of the Ninth, which is about that same ill-fated legion. A slightly lower profile, but still a strong cast with Mark Strong (again) and Donald Sutherland supporting the young leads: Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum.

Smaller releases include Sylvester Stallone’s (yes, him) The Expendables, an original story about a group of mercenaries, featuring Sly himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke. Comparable to that, but slightly younger and more fashionable, will be The Losers. The titular group are CIA renegades, led by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but having as its greatest asset The Wire’s Idris Elba. Zoe Saldana will play the romantic interest. Finally, in this same vein, there is of course the big screen adaptation of The A-Team, which you just have to look forward to because it is The A-Team. Plus it has Liam Neeson as Hannibal and District 9’s Sharlto Copley as Murdoch.

Take your pick, I will see most of it and report.

PS I do not mention Prince of Persia and the Sands of Time, because it is a videogame adaptation and these are by definition rubbish. However, if it proves me wrong I will humbly admit that…

For me, it depends on how well the woman can fake her orgasm. Think about it this way.

If she is such a good actress and can fake a good orgasm with ease, then she can fake it 100% of the time which naturally makes me proud and very excited. But if I have to produce a stunning orgasm in her 100% of the time, there will definitely be times when I will fail to do that because in some of those times it will also be her fault.

So to turn the question around, I would like someone to teach me the skill of training a woman to fake her orgasm well 100% of the time and be content with getting a real one from me 90% of the time.

J’ai numérisé la semaine passé les dessins dans mon moleskine, alors commençons simplement avec les premieres pages, qui ont été faites après avoir vu le James Bond – Quatum of Solace. Sur le film, mon opinion est un peu ambigu, j’ai franchement préféré le premier… mais sur la bondgirl, je suis sur de l’adorer. Au désespoir de ma cocotte….

En esta ocasión os hablo de la más reciente entrega de la saga James Bond para la PS2 y que ha salido como complemento a la película que podeis encontrar en los cines actualmente. Esta entrega sigue más o menos al pie de la letra el guión de la película del mismo nombre.

En el juego manejaremos a Daniel Craig (muy bien recreado en PS2 al igual que Olga Kurylenko), quien tendrá la misión  de eliminar a todos los terroristas que se encuentre a su paso para cumplir su misión por escenarios de todo el mundo como Bolivia, Haití, Italia, etc.

El juego asegura mucha, muchísima acción, poco tiene que ver con el espionaje ni la táctica, tan solo disparar y evitar ser alcanzados por los enemigos. Hay que destacar que el motor del juego es el mismo de Call of Duty 4 y por tanto la dinámica es rápida y fluida, algo que pone de manifiesto el gran trabajo que desarrolla en todos sus juegos la compañía Activision (Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, Spiderman, Guitar Hero, Quake,..) una de las mejores compañías de videojuegos del momento sin duda.

Los gráficos en la versión de PS2 son muy buenos, aunque siempre se pueden mejorar; pero claro, si mejoramos los gráficos, la fluidez dismuiría por tanto yo creo que en este juego se ha alcanzado un equilibro muy muy bueno en cuanto a gráficos/ fluidez. Por otra parte, las recreaciones de los entornos está muy conseguida también en lo referente a los edificios y entornos donde se observa un alto nivel de acabado.

Hablemos de la acción pura y dura, James Bond podrá llevar encima una gran variedad de armas, tanto rifles de francotirador como pistolas con  y sin silenciador, fusiles de asalto, etc. En este aspecto varía de Call of Duty5 (también es de Activision) en el que solo se pueden llevar encima 2 armas diferentes. Por otro lado señalar que  el sistema de apuntado es regular porque no tendremos una visión de la mirilla del arma (excepto en el rifle de francotirador) como en Call of Duty por ejemplo sino que tendremos un objetivo en pantalla que aumentará de tamaño si pulsamos el botón de apuntar, algo que resta puntería.

Por otra parte destacar, como he hecho en numerosas ocasiones, el gran trabajo de Activision en el doblaje al castellano de todo el juego con las voces reales de los personajes de la película, algo muy querido por todos los jugadores españoles y que Activison sabe mejor que nadie realizar en la gran mayoría de sus juegos.

Para concluir, 007: Quantum of Solace es un gran juego de acción en el que todos los fans de las películas de James Bond disfrutarán encarnando a su agente secreto favorito por los más diversos lugares del mundo y manejando multitud de armas, y todo bajo un gran trabajo de doblaje al castellano y de recreación tanto de los personajes como de los escenarios del juego.

17. Quantum of Solace

Jeg regner meg selv som en ganske stor Bond-entusiast, og ble egentlig litt skeptisk på forhånd av denne, mest pga regissør Marc Forster, som har laget noen veldig gode filmer, for all del (Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland), men ikke akkurat i Bond-stil. I tillegg stod han også bak den kritisk anerkjente og dørgende kjedelige Monster’s Ball, så jeg så litt mørkt på det. I tillegg likte jeg til å begynne med ikke konseptet om Alicia Keys som en del av Bond-sangen, selv om det var sammen med Jack White.

I Quantum of Solace følger vi for første gang James Bond (Craig) i en direkte oppfølger, fra Casino Royale. Han er ute etter hevn over sin døde kjæreste, Vesper. Han klarer etter hvert å lete seg fram til et stort nettverk av kriminelle, en organisasjon som tvang Vesper til å stjele pengene i forrige film. Men organisasjonen er på vei til mye større ting. På Haiti treffer Bond Camille (Kurylenko), en dame ute på sitt eget hevntokt, og hun leder ham til Dominic Greene (Amarlac), en av de største kreftene innen organisasjonen. Spørsmålet er bare om Bond klarer å holde styr på personlige hevntanker og hva som er best for verden.

Selv om jeg åpenbart liker denne veldig godt, er det et stort steg ned fra Casino Royale. CR hadde poker, og var rett og slett en av de 3 beste Bond-filmene noensinne. For å ta kritikken først, så sliter Quantum of Solace litt på noen områder. Skurken er dessverre ikke så veldig truende. Jeg følte egentlig aldri at han ville ha noen sjanse mot Bond, og at de tvinger fram fare der det ikke nødvendigvis var det. I tillegg blir kanskje planer og historien noe rotete til tider.

Et annet problem er at det virker som en plan fra filmskapernes side å ta vekk så mye “Bond” som mulig nå som de har begynt på ny. I forrige film kuttet de for første gang ut replikken om “Martini. Shaken, not stirred.”, mens de i QoS for første gang ikke har med “Bond, James Bond.” Sånne ting som det syns jeg bare er litt unødvendige. Ikke det at filmen absolutt må ha det, men jeg kan umulig se for meg at det er et særlig stort problem å få satt det inn en plass heller. Det er liksom litt av følelsen med en Bond-film det gjelder. Har også litt problemer med at de har tatt vekk litt av den originale stilen, playboy-mentaliteten om du vil.

Det som er best her, er nok actionsekvensene. Det kunne jeg se allerede i trailerene, at her skulle vi få litt god gammeldags Bond-action inn igjen. Det er både biljakt og båtjakt, masse action gjennom hele filmen. Det er veldig gøy, og de har valgt å gjøre det i samme stil som vi har blitt kjent med gjennom Bourne-filmene de siste årene. Altså håndholdte kamera, veldig “levende” filming. Det fungerer godt.

Det er bra skuespill, spesielt Daniel Craig overbeviser igjen. Manuset er også godt. Heldigvis så viste det seg jo at regissørfrykten min var helt ubegrunnet, han klarte fint å lage god actionfilm. Heller trengte jeg ikke å være bekymret for sangen. Jack White skrev og produserte, og duetterte (det burde iallfall være et ord) veldig fint med Alicia Keys. Bare litt synd at selve åpningstekstene var litt så som så. Hadde samme problem med Casino Royale. God sang til litt halvgode åpningstekster. Her er åpningstekstene til Quantum of Solace:

Kort sagt en god Bond-film, som leverer action og en ganske god og realistisk historie. La oss bare håpe at den gamle Bond-stilen får lov å være litt mer med i neste film.

Los críticos critican (sí) que James debería llamarse Bourne, James Bourne. Dicen que 007 se parece mucho más a un héroe fuera de control, como el personaje de Matt Damon. Dicen también que el director de “Quantum of Solace” se ha pasado al posmodernismo con un Daniel Craig que se deja llevar por las emociones, que pierde “charme” y que bueno, se ensucia el traje con demasiada facilidad. El antes impecable Brosnan, además de pasar a ser rubio, también ha evolucionado hacia un personaje más… persona.

En la nueva película siguen apareciendo marcas comerciales por cada ángulo de cámara (eso claro, no se puede cambiar) pero faltan muchas cosas que el espectador que ha visto 4 o 5 filmes, se esperaba. Sin entrar en detalles, porque también ya casi todo el mundo ha comentado la lista de lo que falta de la tradición Bond en esta película, sí sorprende el tratamiento que recibe la chica Bond. Olga Kurylenko no tiene que pasar por la cama para hacerse íntima del espía al servicio de la Reina. Es verdad que juega con su atractivo (con el villano Greene y el dictador Medrano), pero, por fin, no es una de sus armas principales.

Y no se ha hundido el mundo! Incluso, puedo decir que cuando mis amigos y yo salíamos del cine, estábamos de acuerdo que nos gusta más este personaje que el seducelotodo Brosnan. Y sí, también a los chicos nos gustó más el nuevo modelo de pareja espía. Será que hasta el agente más famoso del mundo tiene que adaptarse los nuevos tiempos.

It’s such a cliche that has been over the years in the franchise and I had to use it at least once. But; however may, corny the line might be it has always been true.

The Bond film franchise is the longest running movie franchise and the most successful. It has introduced phrases and events into the world that will probably not be forgotten anytime soon. Starting with Dr. No Sean Connery helped shape what action movies would like in the future. Goldfinger helped introduce gadgetry and Bond superior wit as well as the idea of the “Bond” title song. Moonraker showed Bond could go into space. License to Kill showed Bond could seek revenge. Goldeneye showed Bond could bounce back after eight years of silence and Casino Royale showed that Blond locks could not conquer the Bond lock on the world.

Daniel Craig arguably had the most difficult task in becoming the new Bond in terms of how how he was viewed in the eyes of the press and media. But in 2006 he took his newly printed license to kill and blew audience’s away with the masterful Casino Royale. Craig always said that for the next one the burden would be more difficult to create a movie better than the first.

So at first, long, glance Bond 22 which would aptly be named “Quantum Of Solace” would be the most difficult Bond movie to make. Making matters even worse the choice to make Quantum a direct sequel to Royale came almost immediately after the films announcement.

Problems of all sort would follow: Writers Strikes, who’s going to direct, trying to find a Bond girl, angry government officials, perilous accidents, the choice for the singer of the title song, the strange title choice. It seemed Quantum was poised to be doom from the start I’m afraid…

Thank goodness none of that slowed down the film at all. Quantum of Solace is the solidification one needed to prove that Craig has beaten out Connery for best Bond actor. It’s a high octane action film with some serious heart. And while it does work on it’s own it is better in conjunction with Casino Royale.

Many critics in early reviews slammed Quantum for being too short and too action oriented; saying that at best it makes a excellent action film; but, an average Bond film. This simply is not true. The Bond elements are their; but, they are under tremendous amounts of strain and that is shown masterfully by Daniel Craig.

Quantum shows Bond on only his second mission as a 00 Agent and the vulnerability of Vesper Lynd’s death in Casino Royale still haunts him as well it should considering the movie opens only minutes after Royale ended. Anyone looking for quick one liners and the usual Bond pleasantries have lost focus on the story being told and decided to become a slave to the idea that tradition may never be broken save in failure. Quantum explores a deep part of the psyche as to why Bond is the way he is without becoming too introverted. It’s still an action film; but, there are some deep thoughtful moments within the film.

The acting in the film is still top notch; from the emotionally damaged Bond; to the vengeful Camille, to the snide Dominic Greene, to the questioning M; everyone is on par and helps to make their part of the film more watchable than the last. Without a doubt Quantum goes out of it’s way to deliver a dark, forbidding tale of revenge and death and does it with the finesse of a blunt club dressed in the finest silk.

The action is superior to all other actions films; not necessarily because of technique; but, what shows on screen a lack of technique. The fights look gritty and dirty; this isn’t like choreographed studio fighting; these people look like their really going at it.  The same goes for the Car sequence, in which, I found myself gripping my seat. It wasn’t spectacular in form; but, man did it look REAL. Quantum delivers the action and continues to. The movie is punctuated by some great sequences and despite what I’ve read from critics they are NOT gratuitous and all serve a point.

That’s not to say that the movie is perfect; there are aspects of the film one could do without. The shaking camera has never been a problem for me before and i fact it enhances the reality of the film; but, during some sequences it was hard to tell what was happening and took away from the action. This was minor; but, occurred in the beginning dampening my first impression. Some chances are taken with the editing creating a frantic way of viewing some sequences; but, it’s not horrible the risk are taken out of the idea of making art and they can be off putting for an average viewer.

The only real stinker about this movie was the title song. Bond fans know that when the opening title song suffers it subsequently drags the movie down too. It’s supposed to our window into he rest of the film; and get us excited for what’s next. And, in a way, it achieved that goal; Because when it came on I couldn’t wait for it to end and for the next part of the film to start. “Another Way To Die” is the worst fitting Bond song yet and no one in the audience seemed particularly interested in hearing it again.

Overall Quantum of Solace is a great movie and it’d be a mistake to miss it. It’s got everything that Casino Royale had and sometimes more and takes away the length of it’s predecessor; but, the movie did not feel short to me.

What rot. The story for Quantum is actually pretty good, and eminently followable.

We start where Casino Royale left off; Bond, you may recall at the end of that film, had tracked down the man who ordered Vesper Lynd’s and Le Chiffre’s deaths, and who is presumably a big noise in the shadowy terrorist-funding organisation that Royale’s money-oriented plot was concerned with. At a safe house in Siena, Bond, M and another agent interrogate the prisoner, who boasts that his organisation has agents everywhere. This is proved by the agent turning on M and Bond and allowing the prisoner to escape. MI5 turn over the double-agent’s flat and via a forensic tracking of banknotes discover a lead in Haiti by the name of Slate.

Bond kills Slate, and then finds that he was supposed to meet Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a girl we later discover is a Bolivian agent approaching the same shadowy organisation from a different angle, who shows him the main villain of the movie, Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric). Greene fronts an eco-aware political organisation, which is a cover for legitimate access to Third World governments. In a chat with the deposed head of state for Bolivia, General Medrano, Greene explains how Quantum (the organisation) helps to undermine governments via economic means so that more amenable regimes can be groomed to take over. The nations beholden to Quantum then express their support for the new regimes so that they can gain credibility on the world stage. In exchange, Quantum take control of large swathes of land so that they can tie up water supplies and make a killing on the selling of utilities within that country.

Bond follows Greene to Austria where he witnesses a meeting of Quantum. He then heads to La Paz to uncover the whereabouts of Greene’s land acquisition and confronts the main players in the conspiracy.

At the end, Bond travels to Russia, where he confronts Vesper Lynd’s former boyfriend, Yusef, whom Vesper had mistakenly followed (all the while breaking Bond’s heart) through to her final betrayal. Yusef is a Quantum henchman who specialises in seducing high-ranking women to get them to give up government assets. It is at this point that Bond achieves the resolution he has sought, hence the title.

I’ve wasted a lot of time writing that down, but really, is it so hard? A spy story and splodge of character development…surely this is a good thing?

Quantum starts with a very short pre-credit sequence, which is pretty much a car chase, intense and death-defying, and then, once we get through the song (of which, more later) we hit the first in a series of stylistic touches that all previous 21 movies would never have dared attempt. Each location (to begin with, Siena) is announced with a fitting visual epigram. Siena in flowing italianate script, London painted onto rain-sodden tarmac, Kazan in Russia appearing in cleared snowy path. It’s a little bit showy, very smart, but not at all intrusive, and it indicates that there’s a brain ticking along beside the rollercoaster storyline. Throughout, further brief challenges, some visual, some via the dialogue are thrown up. There’s a very grand one right at the centre, which deserves special mention in a moment, but at almost every turn there’s a sly dig at the Bond mythology. It’s great, for instance, to hear M state, “I don’t give a shit about the CIA!”; equally, in an exchange between Bond and his US counterpart Felix Leiter, they cynically banter about the motives and legacies of their respective paymasters. The finest of the cameo moments, though, shows the film’s hand most explicitly. Shirley Eaton’s iconic death in Goldfinger, where she is glaringly painted in gold paint so that she dies of ‘skin suffocation’ is directly referenced here, but not with gold paint, with thick, gloopy, crude oil, and we’re not spared the careful platitudes of the 1964 version (“it’s been known to happen to cabaret dancers,” said Connery dismissively), this time we’re told the girl’s lungs are filled with the stuff. As a darker version of what the new Bond is all about, you couldn’t get a more obvious comparison.

But the finest moment is also as much a departure as all these minor moments, only this time it’s done on the grandest of scales. Following Greene to Austria, Bond witnesses a meeting of Quantum at the world famous Bregenzer opera festival. The majestic Seebühne floating stage on the shores of Lake Constance is all set out for a stirring rendition of Tosca. It’s a striking and epic setting, and within the audience are dotted the various members of the organisation. They can talk to each other via tiny in-ear wireless transmitters, losing themselves in the crowd so that they can’t be seen together. It’s such a clever conceit, which steps into the almost poetic when Bond gatecrashes the party. Suddenly, the music comes fully to the front and every other sound vanishes. The resulting mayhem set to Puccini’s on-stage dramatics is simply terrific, and eclipses in a few short moments, pretty much any previous Bond sequence I’ve seen. This isn’t chipping away at previous Bondisms, this is creating something all its own.

The film isn’t perfect, it’s not high art, and inevitably there are problems. First up, the much-touted Gemma Arterton (she of the Beeb’s recent drippy Tess adaptation) is terrible; only 50 Cent’s turn in Righteous Kill will top that this year, I reckon. Second, the dull title sequence combined with the atrocious Jack White/Alicia Keys song, are bad enough in and of themselves, but they’re indicative of a greater malaise, namely that the franchise hasn’t got away from all of the formulaic stuff just yet. Lastly, the finalé will prove a little too bombastic for some, and stuff blows up, essentially, for no reason.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, though, and if you’re going to re-invent Bond (and all power to Craig on that score because he’s a million miles away from the camp frippery of the worst excesses of the series) then these last two movies have shown the way forward with great gusto. Let’s not forget that at its worst (Octopussy, Die Another Day) this was a cinematic dinosaur that had easily outlived its welcome. Now, amazingly, thanks to a bit of thought, a willingness to throw old ideas away, and a surly and almost unlovable central performance from Daniel Craig, we have a living, breathing, credible and newly invigorated action series to be thankful for.

And not a white cat or underground lair in sight.

The Ukrainian-born beauty, who plays mysterious agent Camille in upcoming James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace,” feels shy in social situations but was more than happy to strip off in front of her co-star Daniel Craig.

She is quoted as saying: “I am very comfortable with my body. I have no problem with uncovered scenes. Being an actor requires you to do that sometimes. I have no problem with it. In fact, I enjoy it.”

Olga previously revealed she refused to have a body double for her sex scenes in 2007 crime thriller “Hitman.”

The 28-year-old actress explained: “When you’re on the beach you’re almost naked anyway. It was the same with my naked scenes in ‘Hitman.’ I sent my body double back because I wanted to do the scenes myself.”

In the latest installment of the British spy franchise, Camille and Bond – who has been left devastated by the death of his lover Vesper Lynd – are united in their desire to avenge their troubled pasts.

Olga explained: “Camille is a strong, independent woman. She carries a wound from her childhood.”

“There is something very terrible that happened to her when she was a little girl and everything she focuses on is revenge connected to this event and that is her motivation.”

“Quantum of Solace” is released worldwide from October 31.

L’occasion est belle de voir la suite de Casino Royale, de regarder un très bon film d’action dans une série qui n’a jamais déçu, oui… Mais surtout, l’occasion est fort belle d’admirer à nouveau la sublime Olga Kurylenko, déjà aperçue dans Hitman, et qui joue le rôle de la nouvelle James Bond girl. Une mannequin, star montante des essais cinématographiques, et qui outre de jouer ses rôles d’un ton juste, nous enchante de son petit accent, venu tout droit des contrées d’Odessa. Alors oui, on ira voir James Bond, mais le succès que connaitra le 23ème opus aura sans doute une petit redevance en la personne d’Olga…
