I’ve noticed something really vexxing in the world of television: networks copying each other’s shows. This is hardly new, of course. The Flintstones, for example, was basically a Stone Age retread of The Honeymooners. But it seems to have reached really annoying levels lately.

I’m talking about the fact that there’s at least two cake decorating shows out there (Cake Boss on TLC and Ace of Cakes on the Food Network), at least two “ghost hunting” shows (Ghost Hunters on SyFy (and its two spinoffs), Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel, and I’m pretty sure at least one on Discovery and one on History, but I don’t recall the names), at least a couple tattoo shows (L.A.

The not-at-all similar Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel!

This is a really sad situation. First off, most of these shows air on networks that haven’t got anything to do with the show’s subject matter. What the hell does something about people driving trucks on the ice have to do with history? But I’ve made that complaint before.

Much worse is the incredible lack of creativity these copycat shows embody. It takes no real effort to look around at someone else’s hit show and say, “hey, we can do that, too!”

I dunno. We the audience deserve better than this crap, but I know they wouldn’t make it if we didn’t watch it. I’m not sure who is more damned by that statement.

For the past few years I have a deeply respect for Tattoo Artists now a days, this people can make skin look beautiful with their art. I knew about Kat Von D a couple of years ago when a friend of mine had Kat in her my space, at that time when I saw her pictures and her art in her own body made by other famous tattoo artists I was amazed on her own and unique beauty. Kat Von D had grown as an artist and I think she is the most beautiful female tattoo artist in the world, not only she is pretty but her work is amazing. If you would like to see more of Kat’s art visit www.katvond.net

Kat Von D (born as Katherine Von Drachenberg on March 8, 1982 in Monterrey, Mexico) is an Mexican tattoo artist and television personality. She is best known for her work as a featured tattoo artist on the TLC reality television show Miami Ink. A subsequent TLC series starring Von D, LA Ink, premiered August 7, 2007 in the United States and November 11, 2007 in the UK.

Von D was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Argentine parents of Spanish and German descent. She moved to Los Angeles at age 4 and grew up in the Inland Empire in Southern California. She credits the prominent Latino culture of Los Angeles as being a major influence in her art and style. She quit school when she was 14 and decided she wanted to be a tattoo artist. Kat has been tattooing since she was 16. Von D was asked to work at Miami Ink when Darren Brass had broken his arm. She had a falling out with Ami James which led to her leaving Miami Ink. She has said that she hasn’t talked to any of the members of Miami Ink since her departure.

Following this she got her own show LA Ink, on which she gained the Guiness World Record of most tattoos given by a single person in 24 hours, with a total of 400. She has a book compiling her artworks and tattoos, which was released in January 2009, called “High Voltage Tattoo” with a foreword by Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx. The book traces Von D’s career as an artist, from early childhood influences to recent work, along with examples of what inspires her, information about the show and her shop, her sketches, and personal tattoos. In a January 2009 interview on Anytime with Bob Kushell, Von D said about the book: “It’s not an autobiography, you know, ’cause I’m too young to do that. But this is just kind of like a picture driven outline of my career as an artist. So, you see everything from my drawings when I was six to tattoos that have never before been seen.” She was one of the contributors to Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna’s book Cherry Bomb in which she gave tips on tattooing.

Von D owns her own make-up line on Sephora, and is the creator of the Musink festival. She married fellow tattoo artist Oliver Peck in 2003, but divorced in 2007. She dated Alex “Orbi” Orbison (son of Roy Orbison and drummer for Whitestarr) for six months during the early series of LA Ink and is currently dating Nikki Sixx.

Here is lasts years show roundup and tattoo contest winners revisited…

Last year’s inaugural Singapore Tattoo Show ended on Sunday, 11 January 2009 with just over a total of 14,000 one-day and three-day passes sold, bringing the total number of attendees to 15,000 who attended the 3-day convention held at Singapore Expo from 9-11 January 2009. The show saw people from all walks of life, as well as a few thousand overseas visitors who flew down especially for the show.

The show saw an exhibitor line up more than 120 tattoo studios and 16 tattoo vendors from various countries, showcasing various tattooing techniques using machines and traditional tools and boasted an exciting programme featuring a body art-bikini fashion show, HPI drifting competition, Harley Davidson showcase, tattoo photography showcase, Art Fusion, live band performances and a daily tattoo contest (results below).

Well-known tattoo personalities Paul Booth of Last Rites Tattoo (USA), Chris Garver of Miami Ink (USA), and Bob Tyrrell of Night Gallery (USA) were at the Singapore Tattoo Show 09.

Kirby Lian, the brainchild and organizer of the show says, “I am very pleased with the outcome of the convention. Tickets sales were brisk from the start on Friday and we even had families and parents with toddlers attending the show. I’m glad that the show has achieved one of its objectives in educating the public on tattooing and the tattoo industry.”

“From the response we have achieved, we are considering doing a bigger and more comprehensive show in 2010,” added Debra Tan, co-oganiser of the Singapore Tattoo Show 09, “So look out for details in October 2009!”

Ever since we got Sky+ last week, I’ve been loving LA Ink & Miami Ink! Kat Von D is just gorgeous, and she’s the inspiration for this blog. These pictures are the ones that inspired me- Kat Von D & Kat Von D2

I usually don’t like full sleeve tattoos, but ones Kat has looks sexy. It’s mainly on men that I don’t like, and I’m not really fond of colour tattoos. If you haven’t seen some of the tattoos that Kat has designed, you need to google the shows- LA Ink and Miami Ink, and google her too She is a very talented artist, and if/when I decide to have a tattoo (which will be a while) I’d love to have it done by her, but it would cost a bomb… and she’s in America! lol

I tried finding tattoos inworld that are like the ones she has but I couldn’t find identical ones. I did find some similar, but typical SL I didn’t have enough layers to wear them :( There should be more than just pants and underpants! It was a mission to find face tattoos, but then I remembered I had the freebie stars from Kittylicious that I got when Fashion Mode mall opened. Thinking about it now I could have tried drawing the tattoos on her in Photoshop. Nevermind.

I tried to make Evie look similar to Kat, but not exactly the same. Kat has long dark hair, and this is pretty much the only one I have that looks similar. I even gave her eyebrow shapes like Kat has! lol The tattoos are the same concept- full body ones, but different designs. The armbracer is not something Kat wears, but I thought it looked cool so added it anyways.

So these are the pictures I have created, hope you like them.

I’ve spent the whole fourth season, so far, wondering what happened to LA Ink.

I am a big, big fan of watching artists do what they do, or shall I say watching a cinematic approximation of what they do.

Documentaries first and I’m all in favor of reality TV that is NOT about tacky, bitchy drama between strangers forced to compete with one another.

Unfortunately, what LA Ink has become is the cheapest of set up melodramas. How did this happen? Who is pulling the strings? What new TV executive need to be fired for slaughtering their pet pig?

As an artist, LA Ink was very entertaining and I miss it.

The stories behind the individual tattoos are still good. It’s always interesting to hear a personal tale. Watching the women work their tattoo arts was inspiring. But now Hannah Atchison and Kim Saigh are gone.

Kat Von D’s outrageous rocker fashion sense and self-presentation as art still amuses. Her boots are great. She can wear more makeup than any child alive. I marvel at how she still has her sight after all the glitter eye shadow she’s worn. Don’t get me wrong I think you all know I love glitter! I am a glitter queen. I can wear only the smallest amount of glitter eyeliner, and I do, but it must be far from my actual eyeballs or it fall right in, or I rub it in accidentally.

I consider Kat a true artist. She’s a Pisces and made for the job. I understand that even though she is “the Boss” she is watery and isn’t always able to run the tightest of ships when that ship veers off course. But how did it get this far?

Even the talented Cory Miller, Kat’s “rock,” has lost his patience with life in the shop. or that is what we are being shown. His formerly admirable ability to flow with the feminine psyches around him seems to have vanished with the arrival of Aubry.

Who is Aubry and how did she become part of the gang?

It seems she was chosen to fill the role of the hapless, immature, central-casting fuck-up wanna be.

I do not believe the story presented to viewers early in the season that Kat’s well meaning brother hired Aubry in Kat’s absence because the shop so desperately needed help.

I know Kat is busy and distracted dealing with a very full plate — fame, romance, multiple artistic and commercial opportunities. She’s very busy building the Kat von D empire, but isn’t she capable of hiring the people she wants and needs and why would she allow herself to be portrayed as incapable when she really means to take control?

I’ve tried to imagine scenarios for how the wheels came off the LA Ink train. The absence of Atchison and Saigh has left a big hole. I loved LA Ink’s women, Pixie, too.

Is it fair to assume that she was another victim of confused managment skills?

Kat and Cory seem to need familiar temperaments in the house. It was a tight knit group, yes, with some problems, but it worked for a while. Kat seems to hire friends and acquaintances. People she assumes she can trust. Why did she not hire more top caliber artists to fill the gap. I assume the shop and the TV show that has stoked it’s success are priorities for her.

Anyone who has checked out High Voltage Tattoo online can see that there are many people working at the shop. There are eleven artists listed including Kat. One is a Brazilian guest artist, Camila Rocha. She is the only other female.

Did all these artists decline an invitation to work on camera thereby forcing the show to invent drama with outsiders? Is this whole Aubry, Amy, Paulie, thing a self-protective thing for the artists at High Voltage, including Kat and Cory?

Like, “Let the reality TV girl take all the heat this season so we can work.”

Did the ratings require this huge manipulation? Aren’t there enough of us who really dig the art and want to see tattoo artists do their thing to satisfy the advertisers?

I feel ripped off and I want to know who is responsible for that sour feeling.

Anybody have any ideas?

To celebrate our birthdays which are only a week (and a few years) apart, my Dad and I hosted a Hollywood themed red carpet party for a few of our friends and family! It was AWESOME!!! Everyone really got into it and came dressed up as their favorite celebrities to walk the red carpet! We even had paparazzi!!!

Derek and I dressed as Posh and Becks, so I got to be a blonde again for an evening…Derek’s desperately trying to convert me back to the “light side”, but I’m not falling for it! …at least not yet! Here’s a photo of us in character. I’m posing with my best non-smiling Victora look! LOL!

Posh and Becks

My sister came as Kat Von D, and MAN did she look good! (So good actually, that I want to email the “real” Kat Von D photos!) We had to convince her to wear those leather looking leggings as pants, cuz they just looked soooo perfect! She even found a shirt that made her look completely tatooed. My Grandma had a panic attack until she rolled up her “sleeve” to show her that they weren’t real. It’s really not advisable to give your nearly 90 – year old Grandma heart palpatations!

I honestly don’t understand though…since she was a puppy, I’ve had her in clothes, so I don’t know why she gets so darn upset now! Oh well, I guess she IS a dog, and not my baby…

You can see him getting his most recent tattoo. To be honest, I probably won’t watch this because needles freak me out. If someone else wants to watch and give me the gist of it, that would be great.

Something I can, and have watched, is Jason singing with Rufus, the puppet on “Pancake Mountain”. I’ve never heard of the show before, but it looks interesting. They’ve had some big acts perform for them and I could spend a lot of time on YouTube watching all the clips. But I won’t, because I’m at work, and that would be irresponsible.

Purr! Kat Von D has surely put female tattoo artist and entrepreneurs on the map. She is literally covered head to toe in a plethora of all imagery imaginable. She is exotic, she is hot and she knows how to kick it up a notch or two. Another aspect is her support for Peta2 and fight against fur. Go Kat!

Her own TV show, LA Ink, is highly successful and covers a wide stream of celebrities and people with amazing stories behind their desire to get inked. Kat’s personal style of tattooing can be described as portrait or photo realism. Her shop, High Voltage Tattoo, is located in West Hollywood. Must make a trip there myself one day and add to my little collection, if one tattoo can be a collection. Umph!

I recall working for International Tattoo Art in NYC and traveled to Australia, New Zealand and many other spots to cover the art and history of tattooing. Fascinating places, colorful people in all senses and intriguing historical ties.

Kat’s relationship with rocker Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue has been much in the media, but I have to say that they truly complement each other. I love to see couples with sparkles in their eyes when they look at each other. They have both struggled with addiction, Kat with alcohol and Nikki with drugs. Love conquers all! And it’s hard to ignore the fact that they have matching road maps on their skin, two pees in a pod.

Kat Von D is very talented. I came across her photography and must say that is was beautiful. It goes to show that a true artist can cross over into many areas of creativity. It’s all about expressing yourself. And that applies to all aspects of life. Do not hold back. Do not conform to the norms and expectations of those around you. Live life for yourself! If it excites you, go for it. No one but yourself will be sorry if you don’t…

We have not heard the last of this feline vixen, watch out for Kat Von D!

Usually when I watch LA Ink, I’m laughing at how irritating Aubry is and how she comes off to the artists that work there. At this point in the season, its getting old. Aubry is still incapable of doing her job correctly, she’s still spending more time running her mouth about nonsense than actually working, and she is still the outcast of the shop. The only thing that has changed are that the insults are getting more frequent and just plain mean.

During this particular episode, Aubry has decided to get a tattoo by one of the artists that work there, thinking this will get her cool points with everyone. The plan backfires because no matter what she does, her first impression is going to be emblazoned in their minds. In my opinion its just a little too late to change things now. First impressions are very important and she’s ruined it for herself.

I feel that she needs to be fired, she’s been there way too long to still be clueless about her responsibilities. The situation has gotten way out of hand because the tattoo artists are constantly mocking her, laughing at her, and making fun of her. This is so unprofessional and mean spirited.

At this point I just feel bad for her. No matter how incompetent she is, she shouldn’t have to deal with co workers disrespecting her on a daily basis and I wouldn’t put up with it. Maybe she should have gotten a skull & cross bones instead of a cherry blossom tat!

Another episode of LA Ink has come to a close and I am once again asking myself, “why is Aubry

Another episode of LA Ink has come to a close and I am once again asking myself, “why is Aubry still working there?”
Aubry was hired by Kat’s brother during the season premiere without Kat’s knowledge of the arrangement. Since then, Kat’s brother is nowhere in sight and she is left to deal with this monstrosity of a shop manager.
Aubry has proven to be empty headed, irritating, slow learning and unable to focus on her actual duties. She is too busy discussing irrelevant topics that no one is interested in hearing. No one in the shop wants her there except for Paulie, who she met outside of the shop and helped to get a job at LA Ink, and even he is on the fence.
I feel that even though Aubry and Kat have bumped heads on more than one occasion, Kat has been way too nice to this chick. Aubry should have been laid out to dry a loooooooong time ago. She doesn’t really want to work at a tattoo shop, she just wants to be on TV…again. Aubry has also starred on Rock of Love 2 (I’m not suprised). Am I the only one that gets annoyed when she lurks over the artists’ shoulders while they are tattooing? Doesn’t she have work to do, something to f**k up?
It was taking her entirely too long to learn how to setup and to clean up the stations, even contaminating an expensive bottle of black ink in the process that had to be thrown away. Mistakes like that cannot happen in a tattoo shop. Would you want to get a tattoo in a shop that she is managing, not knowing if everything is sterile?
Maybe TLC is waiting until the season finale to air the scene that I have been waiting for since episode one. You’re too nice Kat, just get it over with already before the entire shop is destroyed as a direct result of her stupidity! ((Shaking my head))
