Meet Tulip, an adorable 2 year old lab/sharpei mix.

She’s been at the shelter since September 2012, but she’s still very patient. A lot of volunteers have fallen in love with her unique combination of gentleness and dog smarts.

Yes, dog smarts. According to her foster dad, she seems to know how to be in a house, to live with another dog, deal with cats and small children.

She is also a champion walker- she knows what to do and knows where to go if there is a regular route.

She’s also food motivated and loves to be petted. She would be a great dog for someone looking for a relatively low-key dog or is a first time dog owner.

The blurry little puppy in this photo is Levi, a slightly shy lab/sharpei mix who’s about 3 months old.

He wasn’t terribly interested in hot dog treats (he spat them out) or in toys, and was standing there looking a little frightened, so I put him on my lap and he stayed put. And as you can see, he also got very comfortable!

Other than being a lapdog, Levi also is a cuddler. He’s very soft, and has some of the funniest expressions I’ve seen on a dog, thanks to his expressive forehead wrinkles.

I think Levi will warm up to being a more confident and social dog, but for now he’s perfectly content to be a lapdog.

This is Rory, a 3-months old lab/sharpei puppy. I used to call him “Red” because he was the reddest of all his siblings (they all look nothing like each other!). You can see the post on his siblings here (they’ve went to good homes, hurrah!).

Little Rory is still looking for a home of his own, and if you think he looks cute and warmfuzzy from the photos, wait until you meet him in person!

Rory was originally a little timid and not sure what to make of the food treats or toys, but now he loves toys (the lab part of him is kicking in) and is getting more motivated by food each day.

Food or not, Rory has no problems understanding ‘sit’ and does a very nice job.

His ears are his most distinguishing feature. You can tell he’s thinking very hard when his ears open and close. (Being a puppy is hard work, you know…). Here’s a video:

Rory also likes to snuggle in your lap, and he enjoys being petted, especially on his belly and behind his ears.

Rory is a fairly gentle puppy (his energy level only shows up when he chases a toy) and somehow manages to endear himself to everyone he’s met. I’ve seen many folks stop by and go ‘Awwwwww’ and Rory sits up straighter, hoping they’ll take him home.

All Rory really needs is a kind and loving home, a steady routine of walk/play/affection, and go to puppy school classes  (so he can make other canine friends and learn other tricks).

Meet Francine, a cute 6- months old sharpei/hound puppy who gets very enthusiastic when she meets you! Her tail is always wagging, and she’s so eager to please– she knows ‘sit’ already.

Francine is what I’d call an easily content dog– it doesn’t take much to make her happy! She loves being near you while she’s being petted, and toys are a big hit with her. She gets along with other puppies and would be a great second dog/dog park dog.
