Alright alright. You are reading my last post from my France trip.

I figured I needed to stop dragging my feet about it, and to just post it, before things here start picking up and I start making other cool things I want to post photos of.

But Vernissage, our final exhibit, was amazing. It took a lot of work getting it all ready, but everyone was running busily around the village, and was much fun.

I don’t know what I was thinking that weekend, but I only took photos of the fibers studio, and nothing else.

I will explain a bit what Vernissage consisted of, because talking to my mom, she didn’t really understand, and I think that was my lack in explaining what it was.

Basically, “Vernissage” is the French word for “opening” and used in reference to art openings. So that’s all that means, is we put together our own show (which you’d probably figured out anyways). But since there were a few different majors represented at SCAD Lacoste this past quarter (as there always is) and many talented students, we had a lot of things to find places for, and took over Rue du Four. We were in little galleries up and down the street, in back rooms and in our various studio spaces we’d been in all quarter. There was a lot of stuff, and everything (really, everything!) looked GREAT. I really am going to one day be looking through a magazine, see a commercial or billboard, or be reading a design blog, and will see something someone did and be able to truthfully say, “Oh! I lived in France with them for 8 weeks when I was a senior at SCAD.”

I know talented people, for real.

So here is a little bit of what the Fibers room looked like at Vernissage. Please look at Lissa Nancy’s blog, because I know she is the only one that took before and after photos and while they’re not on her blog yet, I’m sure she’ll put the up when she’s back in the states. (She gets home today, so she can finally feast on our long awaited guacamole!!!!!!!!!!!)

It was a wonderful wonderful show, and we had a lot of fun.

I wish I had photos of the rest of the things that happened, but browse around the blogs on the right, and see what you can find. I have a lot of people from Lacoste on there, so I’m sure you’ll find something.

Thanks so much if you’ve been reading these blogs faithfully while I’ve been in France. I truly did miss home so much while I was away am I am so glad to be back, but I already feel a little bit like it was a dream! It really was such a wonderful quarter and I wouldn’t ever trade it for anything else, despite how much I missed home sometimes. It was such an incredible time, and I did tons of things. I have only touched the surface of my travels on this blog, but I did the best I could without saying too much. (Although I’m sure I did sometimes.)

I will be in Florida for the next month or so, before going back to Savannah, but I plan on making lots of cute things over the break, and continuing to do fun things and take photos, and continue to update this blog, so it’s not ending here, although it won’t be as dependable, that’s for sure.

But that is all for now. Happy Thanksgiving (tomorrow) and welcome home to my fellow France loving friends.

xoxoxox.

We jump right in today with a look at some of the young ladies making their debut this weekend at the Bal Crillon in Paris, always a fascinating event filled with pretty people and stunning party frocks.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The holiday season increases the amount of merchandise described as ‘preppy’, with most merchandise labeled this way resembling nothing most readers would own, but it is that time of year. We were pleasantly surprised when perusing the Prepster gift guide at PlazaToo suggesting this Shearwater Boot from Sperry.

On the flip side of the coin, a new boot debuting this Friday, created jointly by Ralph Lauren and Ronnie Fieg.

(Ahem.)

We move to another Ralph Lauren-related item, one of today’s updates to our Black Friday listings. The Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Outlet Stores offer a 20% discount on purchases of $150+ after midnight Thanksgiving night/Friday morning.

We enjoyed the helpful suggestions included with a portion of the copy detailing this year’s Midnight Madness event, tips on how a “well-planned excursion creates a more enjoyable environment” and remembering the “generous spirit of the season”.

Ah, an effort at bringing civility to a rather uncivil occasion, laudable on PLR’s part.

We also have an update on Lacoste; this retailer is not waiting until after Thanksgiving to start its sale.

Finally, we close with a look at our “9 Under $10“.

This was actually supposed to be “10 Gifts Under $10,” but someone here at the Prepatorium is clearly incapable of performing the most rudimentary math functions. (That would be yours truly, most assuredly not The Consort.)

At any rate, our idea was to make a quick and easy list of preptastic gift ideas for Christmas, Hanukkah, whatnot, all of them under $10. Friends who visit us on Polyvore may have already seen this little effort, but we want to blanket the Planet (heh-heh) as part of our ongoing efforts to Protect Your Pocketbook. The Seaside-themed Notecards, Custom Key Fobs, Magnet Packs and everything else you see is fiscally friendly, $10 or less.

With that shameless self-promotion, we say G’Bye until next time, may everyone enjoy a perfectly splendid evening!

Buying authentic designer brands are an investment in themselves and so where you buy them can make

Buying authentic designer brands are an investment in themselves and so where you buy them can make all the difference. In a time challenged world, when you don’t really have the time to visit the brick-and-mortar stores, you may take the easier way out and shop online. In fact online shopping is taking the world by the storm and to cash on its popularity, many high end brands are taking the online route to improve their sales.

While online selling has its advantages in that the stores are open 24×7 enabling people to shop at any time of the day and night from the comforts of their homes, it also has its disadvantages, the major being that people can be taken for a ride. This is all the more possible with online stores selling fake brands. All they need is to put up images and pictures that closely resemble the originals and since as a customer you can not touch and examine the clothes and accessories closely, there are high chances that you can mistake the fakes for the originals.

So the question arises, how to identify a store that is authentic and is selling genuine brands and not fakes. If you don’t have the time to shop in person and are considering buying from an online source, you must make sure the store is authentic. For this, check out the reviews of the customers on the online store’s website. Testimonials are an important way of identifying if the store is genuine.

Secondly, you must check out social networking sites and try to find the reviews of the people who have bought from a particular store. In fact studies reveal that a majority of the people in the USA first ask for reviews of a particular product, service or store in the social networking sites before actually making a purchase. For example, if you are buying from Ebay, you can go to the discussion groups for the item you have in mind. You’ll come across various threads on fakes, how to identify fakes and if some one has had a bad experience from which you can learn. Then again there are many expert buyers who can offer you tips on how to identify the fakes from the genuine.

Then again, you must have an idea of the price of the clothes or accessory that you wish to purchase. Always remember that branded goods usually come in limited editions and are expensive. So if a particular online store is selling these products at lower rates, chances are they are probably fake.

If you don’t have much experience in buying brands, be it clothes, shoes, or handbags, you should first visit a brick-and-mortar store that is nearby and get an idea of their colors and look. Designer products usually come in limited colors and patterns and develop what you can say is an experienced eye, you would be able to identify the genuine products.

Finally, you can visit the website of a particular brand and write to their customer care to enquire which online stores stocks their brand.

After 81 days, 5 flights, 4 train rides, 5 countries, 1345 photos, 39 youtube video uploads, 28 blog posts, 4 times of crying out of sadness, 2 times of crying tears of joy, and an uncountable number of tears while laughing; 15,000 dance parties, 5 birthdays, 21 embroideries, 30+ field trips, 4 times of eating sushi, 80 songs purchased on itunes, 2 internships set up (Melissa & me), 2 failed attempts at guacamole, 3,000 rants with Lexi, more sweet & meaningful conversations with Kara, a few days of homesickness and despair, but more days of utter joy and amazement, seeing fall change for the first time, 40 sent postcards, dozens of markets and countless vendors, tons of cute dogs, mastery of the Thriller dance, 1 night of karaoke, 1 stolen spoon, lots of coffee & chocolate, an uncountable number of emails, 24 napkins, 6 sales, tons of new and amazing friendships, and I’m finally home.

I have yet to sit and look over my pictures, journal, and blog and to absorb what in the world I just did. It was fun and exciting and I loved it. I am so happy to be home though, although it has been a weird past few days adjusting again to being here.

It is odd that the French culture is so slow paced, but I feel like my life sped up over the time I was there, and now that I’m back in America, where things are supposed to be faster and crazier, I have no idea what to do with myself!

NYC-based women’s streetwear label Married To The Mob linked up with Lacoste to create a collaborative version of the brand’s Hironia silhouette. Pretty simple collab, the design features a lace overlay, which is clearly inspired by French designer Christian Louboutin, within a black and slightly metallic purple colourway. No further details have been released as of yet, but stay tuned!

The guy who likes to leave his phone on the street has got another habit (also phone related) which

The guy who likes to leave his phone on the street has got another habit (also phone related) which is annoying. He will still be pressing snooze for the alarm he has set an hour and a half after it first went off. Why not just set it to go off later instead of waking me up early for the past 2 days! Plonker.

I had a later than intended one last night, there’s a Dutch guy who works here who I was having a few drinks with. A very clever and interesting bloke though also quite weird. He is either a compulsive liar or has had a Forrest Gump/Benjamin Button style life in his short 23 years on this rock. I’m not sure which it is.

The weather is great here today, it’s in the mid 20s. So it will make for a good day of wandering about.

The first place I went to was the San Mamés Stadium. They do a tour but once again I had more or less hit siesta time. I saw the outside at least and I’ll see how I’m doing for time later and maybe take a proper look then, I’m not really that bothered though if I have to leave it.

The main bus station is right next to the ground so I had a look at the bus times to San Sebastian. Pretty much every half hour, so that’s nice and easy.

While walking down the main shopping street on my way to the Guggenheim I nipped into the Lacoste shop as I always do. I don’t know why I bother as even though they have some mega threads, their stuff is so expensive. I saw a nice jacket. €310. I didn’t have to mull that one over for too long.

As much as I like Spain, it will be a bit of a relief to get into France as I’ve found it pretty difficult trying to order food, very difficult at times in fact. Before my next visit a crash course in Spanish might be in order.

The Guggenheim was good. It cost me €11 to get in though if I was 26 rather than 27 my student card would have got me in for €6.50. Doh.

There isn’t actually that much in there, I managed to get s decent look at eveything in 2 hours. Some of the stuff seems very pretentious to me. Mainly some of the video installations on the ground floor, ‘Zidane’ being a good example.

I really enjoyed the massive exhibition of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. I’m hardly very well up on architecture but I could appreciate how amazing some of his designs are, about half of which were actually realised.

I liked the abstract and surrealism stuff too, that sort of thing appeals to me. The works they have by Kandinsky and Gottlieb is particularly good.

The building itself is also very impressive. If you’re in Bilbao and you don’t intend to go inside the Guggenheim, you should at least take a walk down the river to it just to see the exterior.

Crikey it’s a strange bus infrastructure in Basque country. I got to the bus station at about 18:15 with the intention of getting the 18:30. I then bought a ticket from the automated machine for €7, all hunky dory so far. When at 18:35 my bus still hadn’t turned up at platform 2, 3 or 4 (as the screen stated) I was a touch concerned and begun to check the destinations on the other buses nearby and show my ticket to the drivers just in case. It was lucky I did as with the 2nd one I tried it was my bus apparently, even though it had Santander (which is in the opposite direction) as the destination and was parked at platform 8. Barmy these Basque lot.

The hostel (Olga’s Place) is okay, nothing special, but it will do for a few nights. It’s located on Zabaleta Street strangely enough.

There’s nothing on the agenda for tonight, just get some grub then take it easy. Over.

PS One last thing, as I type this on the PC at the hostel I’m being forced to listen to a conversation between the most boring couple you could possibly imagine, as dull as it gets. I’m not sure I want to go to New Zealand anymore.

APART FROM good food and wristwatches, scents are another passion of mine. A good scent – top, midd

APART FROM good food and wristwatches, scents are another passion of mine. A good scent – top, middle, and base notes considered – has the power to evoke intense emotions, brighten someone’s day, or pull the past through the time and space continuum back all the way to the present.

Some of my favorites on the shelf here at home.

I’ve ticked off quite a number of fragrances as personal favorites through the years. And as a tradition at the start of a new year, I put together a list of up and coming scents that have piqued my interest and have merited a trial whiff or two at the department store fragrance counter.

My all-time favorites include In Motion by Hugo Boss (memories of Stanford University), Style In Play by Lacoste (my birthday 2004), Carolina Herrera 212 For Men, Michael Kors’ Michael For Men, Egoiste Platinum by Chanel, Clinique Happy For Men, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, Kenneth Cole New York (the classic one in the round gray bottle… reminds me of someone in my one-and-a-half years in the States), M by Banana Republic, Fahrenheit by Christian Dior, and Lacoste Original (from Batman… this is THE BEST).

So just how much perfume does one need to put on? Just enough that only the person close enough to kiss you will smell it.

I don’t usually follow my own rule.

Some of my faves on my DVD/CD cabinet. I don't think they make that Kenneth Cole anymore.
