I love knitted things, it is such a traditional craft, associated with grandma’s knitting tacky jumpers and tea cosies. I learnt to knit last Summer, it took me ages to get a hang of it and to this day I have not managed to do anything other than straight lines, therefore limiting me to scarves! This Winter I’m planning on expanding my skills into crochet and knitting more interesting things such as hats and handwarmers.

Amigurumi!

Through browsing the blog Geek Crafts (which I love, and highly recommend you check out!) http://geekcrafts.com/ I discovered the quirky, cute and imaginative world of Amigurumi. Amigurumi is the Japanese for ‘knitted stuff toy’, however this name has been attached generally to any kind of Kawaii (cute), quirky and kitsch knitted characters. Just do a google image search and a whole bunch of amazing makes appear. Knitted Food Items!

For some unknown reason I’ve always had a thing for cartoon food items with faces, which can frequently be seen in traditional Amigurumi work. My love of knitted items have led to my love of knitted food items, so pointless really, but oh so cute and very kitsch. Of course, the main lovely thing about knitted items is that they can create amazingly snuggly and beautiful practical items and fashion accessories. I have seen so many amazing webshops selling incredible knitted things but some of my faves include: Knit and Destroy, this lady now works for Lady Luck Rules Ok I believe and she is incredible creative with her Knits http://www.knitanddestroy.co.uk/ I have many things from her site, including a lolly pop brooch and a red crayon scarf! For  more elegant, but still quirky knit I love Folksy shop, Dolly Knits, I would quite happily own every piece on her page, so much good choice! http://www.folksy.com/shops/dollyknits I particularly love Dolly Knits triangle scarves, ties and hair bows, seriously cute! Dolly Knit Pom Pom brooches would brighten up any outfit!

 How inspiring is that talented bunch? I wonder if they will lend me their talents?

So here is the blog I promised about what upset me deeply and had (still does have) me feeling very misserable.

I was sick of wearing the same necklace so I went to my nice blue big with miffy on (that once held chocolate) to pick out a different necklace and nearly broke down in tears when I looked inside…

…what did I see you want to know.  It was devistating I dont know how to put it into words but basically at least 5 necklaces were broken and 2 beaded bracelets (that looked like the string had been cut to break them because the beeds were fine!)

My really bright rainbow stars necklace (Also punky pins and Ive hardly worn it coz I just got it [in the sale luckily]) has broke, my pink deer necklace (yet another punky pins sale item) has no head…ummm my giant red heart with a frowny face thingy necklace (lady luck rules ok) is cracked in half…I may be able to fix it into a broken heart neacklace and then my bat necklace from some austrailian website has broken but one of the bats is still attached so hopefully I can make that one work.

Due to my depression at said beheaded Peggy I emailed punky pins becuase with it being around 2 years old they dont make it anymore and I couldnt find it online. They sent me a nice email back today saying they’ll make me one speshally for £12 an p&p (I think I payed about £15 from Vortex for mine) so Im happy again coz I phoned them up and got it ordered :]

So how did my jewlery break? I think either it was on the floor on wednesday when I was getting ready to go out and either a drunk Ashlie or a drunk Christina stood on it (I have vauge memories of saying “dont worry nothing will be broken”) or what I think is more possible (though Im not sure how the beaded braclets would break this way) is that it was in one of my unpacked bags on the floor and when I fell of my chair trying to shut my window (And consequently really hurt my bum) I fell onto the jewelery and smashed it to smithereens and then totaly forgot to look at it.

Luckily my red hearts necklace that I wear a lot recently was on my table (or my neck) so didnt break and also my heart with wings which was in the bag is pretty sturdy so didnt break…my totoro necklace didnt break or my bambi one some Im happy with that…Im also impressed my red stars bracelett didnt smash seeing as my gold horseshoe anklet (fake gold of course) somehow snapped in the middle so i cant fasten it anymore….

Its all been so strange, like someone deliberatly sabotaged my jewelery! and I am still recovering, how am I going to replace them all (Im just incredably happy with punky pins for making a Peggy up specially for me!) seeing as Im a skint student I cant really afford it all :/

For some reason this went into drafts yesterday instead of publishing….strange

Il nome è lungo e complicato Lady Luck Rules Ok, i pezzi sono allegri e accessibili. Tutto è nato nel 2003 come rivolta contro lo stile boho-chic che dominava la moda degli accessori di quegli anni (perline e piume, ho ancora qualcosa di quel periodo). La designer ha cominciato a realizzare gioielli dallo stile vintage-craft, utilizzando finding anni Ottanta, e da uno stand al mercato di Portobello di Londra in pochi anni è passata a vendere online, ha aperto un sito e uno store a Brick Lane (sempre Londra).

In questa piena di oggetti fatti a mano dallo stile casalingo (Etsy non verrà mai citato abbastanza come fenomeno), la Lady ha fatto fortuna!

i just finished my second mini ice cream order for LLROK yesterday and popped it in the post.  my eyes are beginning to go a little cross-eyed from all the wooly cones & frosting.  i’m about to start a new popsicle order for her too which i’m excited about.  in the meantime i’ve been checking back on her site to keep an eye on any customer reviews with my fingers & needles crossed that everyone is happy with their knit friends.  so far so good! here is some of the lovely feedback…once again thankyou LLROK and to all who have bought a knit friend through the site!!!

I’m in love (again)! En dat met de sublieme webshop Beadesaurus. Zulke geweldige spullen! Zelfs Hello Kitty ziet er aanvaardbaar uit! Ik zou mijn computerscherm wel willen knuffelen, zo’n fabulous verzameling accessoires, kleding en hebbedingetjes heb ik nog nooit tesamen gezien. Enige minpuntje: de verzendkosten naar België zijn erg hoog.
