hopefully my mac battery will last long enough to let me write this blog while stuck here at o’hare…when I actually post this I’ll probably be at my mom’s place already, since I’m not down with the whole airport wireless program. question- is it really that serious to withhold having free wireless in airports? it’s 2010, people…really?? i don’t know anybody who pays for boingo or any of the other “hot spot” wireless services accessible in airports, but I would love to know the statistics on that. how many people actually order that stuff?

anywayyyyyy…. spinning at the hudson went really well and will hopefully result in future job opportunities. spun a quick house/deep house/electronic set… a mix of obscure stuff and some stuff most people into those genres would know- goldfrapp, crystal waters, ladytron, daft punk, la roux (my new obsession!!), modjo, ect…definitely got people dancing, finished my set, and let tim martell swoop in and do his thing for the rest of the night. frank came thru to help take some pics, so I’ve gotta give him all the credit for these:

as far as what else popped off this weekend- i watched the life changing exposé that IS ‘food, inc.’ even if you’re a huge fan of fast food (pun intended), this movie will turn you onto a healthier lifestyle. if it doesn’t, then I’m sorry that either A. the point totally went over your head or B. you have no soul. the food production system in this country is corrupt beyond what the average person could only begin to imagine. the major meat distribution companies, like tyson and other comparable giants, are being run by crazed maniacs who could care less who they have to step on to make their money. the whole thing is just a disgusting process. therefore, they are the hot mess of the day. yuck.

Oh, las listas, que absurdas son pero como mola hacerlas. Elegimos los 50 discos de la década, los 25 míos y los 25 de eldrsaleabailar (próximo miércoles). Ambos coincidimos en algunas referencias, pero sobre la mayoría estamos en radical desacuerdo, he aquí mis 25, con comentarios hirientes propios de eldrsaleabailar.

1. The Strokes – Is This It

Indiegnado: Indudablemente, el disco de la década. Once autenticos himnos que han inspirado tanto a músicos como a simples mortales durante los 9 años que esta maravilla lleva con nosotros.

Eldrsaleabailar: Indudablemente, unos pijos medianías de NY que tuvieron la suerte de vivir (artisticamente) en la década más medianía de la historia.

2. Arcade Fire – Funeral

Indiegnado: Con su instrumentación barroca, sus melodías completamente particulares y diferentes, hizo que, por primera vez, la palabra épica adquiriera un nuevo significado.

Indiegnado: Con este disco, Morrissey volvia tras siete años de silencio. Y lo hizo con el mejor disco que ha firmado en solitario.

Eldrsaleabailar: Grandísimo, guapísimo y con la mejor canción de la década. Un recuerdo para la organización del festival en el castillo de Sohail, espero que no hayan levantado cabeza desde aquel despropósito.

4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Fever To Tell

Indiegnado: “Fever To Tell” es un disco de rock hecho en los 00, y cuando digo hecho en los 00 me refiero a que suena de esta decada, no es un revival, ni intenta copiar a nada anterior. Solo ellos consiguieron hacer un disco de rock, aportando algo más en estos ultimos 10 años.

Eldrsaleabailar: Vamos de sobrada en sobrada. Perdonadle, es joven.

5. The GO! Team – Thunder, Lightning, Strike.

Indiegnado: Ian Parton es el ideologo de esta autentica joya. Creando a partir del mash up sobre discos de los 70 y aportando voces y matices, Thunder Lightnin Strike es un disco que no se repite en ningun momento y que en cada corte crea melodias perfectas. Tremendamente fresco.

6.Los Planetas – La Leyenda Del Espacio

Indiegnado: Siempre en progresión, siempre dando un paso más en su música, Los Planetas consiguen en “La Leyenda del Espacio” fusionar el flamenco con el rock, algo que nos intentaron colocar erroneamente con “Omega“. Ellos lo consiguen firmando algunas de las mejores canciones de todo su repertorio, desde “Ya no me asomo a la reja” hasta “Si me diste la espalda“.

Eldrsaleabailar:Lo único erróneo es tu animadversión a “Omega“, pieza clave de la historia musical patria.

7. Death Cab For Cutie – Transanlanticism

Indiegnado: Death Cab For Cutie son uno de los grupos que más vende en america, juegan en la liga numero uno del mainstream americano, algo que empezaron a conseguir tras su “Transantlanticism“, un disco de pop preciosista simplemente perfecto.

Eldrsaleabailar: Me aburren un poco. Para mainstream americano me quedo con Britney Spears.

8.Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion

Indiegnado: Animal Collective hacen la música que se deberia hacer en el siglo XXI, música actual que aporta algo nuevo y se olvida de esa estupidez estendida del “todo esta inventado” ellos demuestran que no, que aun se puede hacer algo nuevo que no suene mal, algo nuevo, que de hecho suena como nada más suena actualmente.

Eldrsaleabailar: Estoy de acuerdo, lo que no sé es si gracias a dios, nada más suena a ellos.

9. Arctic Monkeys – Favourite Worst Nightmare

Indiegnado: El debut de Arctic Monkeys fue un golpe de aire fresco en el panorama musical, y supuso un disco que llevo la musica a aquellos oidos que la relacionaban con horteradas varias sin sentido. Pero lo mejor llego con su segundo disco, un disco que no se centraba en el hit instantaneo, sino que buscaba nuevos matices y nuevos sonidos.

Eldrsaleabailar: Los caminos del myspace son inescrutables.

10.La Casa Azul – La Revolución Sexual

Indiegnado: “La Revolucion Sexual” es un disco perfecto, hit tras hit y estribillo coreable tras estribillo coreable, los intentos anteriores habian  dejado grandes canciones, pero no es hasta esta revolucion sexual cuando todo suena engranado y menos organico, pero a la vez, más profesional, un sonido que le va mucho mejor a La Casa Azul.

Eldrsaleabailar: Guille Milkyway es lo más importante que nos ha pasado, si señor.

11. Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend

Indiegnado: Soplo de aire fresco. Los lideres del afroindie, con un debut mas que interesante lleno de cambios pero sonando siempre a ellos mismos. Increible.

12. Franz Ferdinand – Franz Ferdinand

Indiegnado: Grandes. Su primer disco es una coleccion de hit tras hit, y con canciones tan míticas ya como “Take Me Out” o “Michael“.

Eldrsaleabailar: Grandes no, gigantes.

13. TV On The Radio – Dear Science

Indiegnado: “Dear Science” es el disco que mejor suena de Tv On The Radio, aunque muchos prefieran el anterior, en “Dear Science” alcanza una variedad de estilos, sonidos y matices que pocos han conseguido en estos 10 años.

14. The XX – XX

Indiegnado: El debut de 2010. Ellos han demostrado que se puede tener 20 años, un par de guitarras y una caja de ritmos para crear un disco redondo y con un sonido exquisito, 11 canciones llenas de magia.

Eldrsaleabailar: Buff, empezó sin gustarme y ahora me empieza a encandilar, en mi lista no llegarían a tiempo.

15. Capitán Melao – Lágrima

Indiegnado: Si tengo que elegir un descubrimiento personal del underground mas underground me quedo con Capitán Melao. Un disco injustamente olvidado hasta por su creador, que desde entonces no ha vuelto a dar señales de vida al proyecto y con canciones tremendamente buenas.

Eldrsaleabailar: Si es tu disco fetiche nada tengo que objetar, para que no me taches de inmaduro

16. Astrud – Tú No Existes

Indiegnado: “Tú No Existes” es el disco mas pop de Astrud, esa música tremendamente recordable llena de arreglos electronicos y acompañadas de esas letras tan divertidas. Ni que decir que “Noam Chomsky” o “El Vertedero De Sao Paulo” son de lo mejor que astrud han firmado.

Eldrsaleabailar: ¡Increíble!, va el tío y escoge el menor de todos los discos de Astrud de la década, en fin…

17. Amy Winehouse – Back To Black

Indiegnado: La drogada mas mal vista del mundillo rosa, ¡canta! y ademas lo hace de una forma absolutamente espectacular. “Back To Black” es un disco imprescindible dentro del revival soul que se creo, en parte, gracias a ella.

18. Triángulo De Amor Bizarro – Triángulo De Amor Bizarro

Indiegnado: El noise patrio, las ganas y la furia de los gallegos, todo eso esta contenido en el debut de TAB, un debut que pronto tendra su esperadisima continuacion. y dentro de ese debut una de las mejores canciones de la decada a nivel nacional, “El Fantasma De La Transición“.

Eldrsaleabailar: ¿Son tan buenos como para estar entre los 25 mejores?

Indiegnado: Rotundo sí.

19. Coldplay – A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Indiegnado: Coldplay son los nuevos U2, los herederos de los estadios, lo llenan todo, incluso un año antes, de locura. Pero esa euforia que se ha desatado en los ultimos años poco tiene que ver con el pop pianistico de los inicios, lo verdaderamente bueno de Coldplay

20. Ellos – Lo Tuyo No Tiene Nombre

Indiegnado: El primer disco de Ellos es el mas fresco, y punto. LLeno de himnos bailables y un aire muy divertido

21. Band Of Horses – Cease To Begin

Indiegnado: El primer disco fue un disco aclamado en todos los medios, pero no fue hasta el segundo “Cease To Begin” cuando Band Of Horses alcanzaron su exquisitez musical, canciones pop rock con un aire americano realmente exquisito.

Eldrsaleabailar: Apenas les conozco, será por algo.

22. El Guincho – Alegranza

Indiegnado: Si tuvieramos que el artista nacional con mas proyeccion y que mas fronteras ha conseguido romper, ese es sin duda, El Guincho, por primera vez, un artista nacional no es tratado como secundario, sino que se coloca en las privilegiadas primeras posiciones, y ademas con un discazo absoluto como es “Alegranza“.

Eldrsaleabailar: Absolutamente de acuerdo

23. The National – Boxer

Indiegnado: El post punk ha sido el estandarte mas copiado e irritante de la decada, que si interpoles, editores, y catpeoples insulsos todos, pues bien, The National escapan de esas connotaciones y colocan su “Boxer” como un disco lleno de matices y buenas canciones.

Eldrsaleabailar: Disco precioso, de verdad, para escuchar con alguno de M. Ward.

24. Ladytron – Velocifero

Indiegnado: Viva el electropop de los 00´s y claro, vivan Ladytron. Cuatro discazos en siete años, el mejor, el último, un disco impecable.

Eldrsaleabailar: A mi no me ponen.

25. Sigur Rós – Takk…

Indiegnado: ¿y que seria de la decada sin la bizarrez extrema de Sigur Rós? Pues nada, lo suyo si que es autentica epica, sin el significado negativo.

Oh, Ladytron.

The way that I found you was actually pretty amazing. I was wondering about my boss’s office at The Mariners’ Museum and I saw a cd. It was a very amazing looking cd, as it was one of those file cds. So I asked her if I could borrow it and she obliged.  I then proceeded to take the cd home and put it onto my computer. It was composed of various mp3s with artists such as Devendra Banhart, The Posies, Bloc Party and Ladytron on it. I put it onto my mp3 player.

At first, I didn’t like Ladytron. It was until I actually listened, and I mean really listened. I analyzed every sing note in their album 604. I came to conclude eventually that Ladytron was the shit. No doubts about it. 

What I like about them the most is their use of synth. I really love synth, but not the way that I love Ladytron’s use of it. It gives me chills. It is just so…so..good-sounding to my ears, for lack of a better description, haha.  It isn’t too complicated sounding either, and I like that. It seems as though they really don’t have to try to make a great song. They just repeat the same chord progression over and over again. A good example of this is in their song “Paco!”. It’s just the same thing over and over again, and it’s not annoying at all. It just flows.

Depois de Christina Aguilera ter sido vista em um show da banda brasileira Cansei de Ser Sexy, o novo CD da moça me deu mais curiosidade ainda. Para quem não sabe, ele vai se chamar “Light & Darkness”.

Na produção e nas letras, além do mestre Ron Fair, a loira contou com a ajuda de ninguém menos que as bandas britânicas Goldfrapp e Ladytron, da cantora australiana Sia Furler e do DJ africano Premier. Em entrevista ao Ryan Seacrest, ela disse que Mark Ronson, de “Back To Black” de Amy Winehouse, e Christopher Tricky Stewart também estarão no álbum. Esse último ficou conhecido por produzir sucessos como “Single Ladies”, da Beyoncé.

Agora, a maior novidade para mim é que, dizem, Aguilera vai regravar em seu CD “My Favourite Game”, faixa de “Gran Turismo”, quarto álbum da banda sueca The Cardigans, da lindíssima vocalista Nina Persson.

O álbum deve chegar às lojas no primeiro semestre de 2010.

DETROIT SOCIAL CLUB

If you like Kasabian, you are going to love this six piece. They may describe themselves as “big beat junkie folk“, but they’re wrong, they are the new Kasabian. It’s that simple. There’s a little bit of bluesy Primal Scream in there perhaps, possibly even a little bit of Oasis, but mainly Kasabian. We won’t be ending the critique there however, because they also happen to write fucking awesome tunes. Very much like Kasabian do actually. You know the sort of songs; absolutely giant, sing along, room-filling, killer, foot-stomping monsters. They even have that kind of “na na na na na” bit in the middle of a track, so that the inner football fan inside you can scream along at their gigs. Again, this is no bad thing. It’s music to get swept up and feel pumped by. There’s not a lot of re-invention here, as they musically look a little backwards, but there’s no denying their collective ability to write an atmospheric anthem that occasionally goes a little psychedelic (you know for the stoners, in the same way Kasabian did). It’s a big sound, as is perhaps expected from a band that lists five members as guitarists. And big is what they are going to get, to go with their big Polydor record label signatures and eventual big venues in which to play their big singalongs. However, if you don’t like Kasabian, it’s probably fair to assume you won’t be enjoying much from them. Saying that, if you don’t like Kasabian you wouldn’t have gotten past the first line in this review.      (MB)

PARALLELS

I don’t know about you but I’m sure getting that jaded feeling from all these 80s obsessed synth bands that currently clutter up the music scene.  So it comes as some relief to find that Toronto synthesizer trio Parallels are obsessed with the 70s instead. To be exact, it’s that decades brand of light electronica, often seen being produced by the likes of Giorgio Moroder, or Sparks (circa their Terminal Jive LP).  They take both of these influences and use the pulsating, moving basslines and oscillating effects to blend them with a certain sexy knowingness. It’s similar to the type of irresistible lure that Ladytron mastered to perfection.  Arpeggiator-driven melodies underpin the sweet vocals of electro siren Holly Dodson, who has the voice of a young Madonna on the tunes Ultralight and Dry Blood. Additionally, she’s found turning on some enticing, breathless, emotional vocals with the broodier and darker soundtrack Ghost Machines.  They were formed in 2008 by Crystal Castle’s tour drummer, Cameron Findley, who has aimed for a more sophisticated blend of hi-NRG disco and electronic pop, making them sound like a synth band for grown ups.  An album is set for release at some point before the end of 2009, but for now you can hear tracks from their previous three EP’s on Myspace.      (DV)

THE LOOM

It seems like we write about bands from across the bridges and tunnels of New York every other post on this blog at the moment, so frequent are the arrivals in The Recommender’s inbox from that part of the world.  No doubt this is on the back of the awesome CMJ festival that recently occurred there.  A festival that opens many loft apartments and warehouses to the public as spaces in which to showcase contemporary music.  Recently spotted on our radars from this event include Freelance Whales, which we covered here, and Sleigh Bells, who we listed here.  So perhaps the final band that is to emerge on the back of all the blogging buzz is The Loom.  Already one EP in, At Last Light, they are rumoured to be currently recording their debut full length album, which they’ve requested fans to help fund.  This multi-instumentalist, (in the truest sense of the word), six piece from Brooklyn sit just the right side of folk music, but only just.  OK, so there’s banjos and ukulele and female vocals that seem straight out of the Irish sixties, but it’s the beat-claps and John Fanning’s vocals that lift it into a slightly more contemporary box. It’s got great melodic parts, in the essence of Arcade Fire and the aforementioned Freelance Whales, but without the pop or snare drum. It may be a little twee for some of you, but we think there’s still plenty in the locker to enjoy here. Perfect for the winter ipod.   (MB)

My favourite Melbourne threesome, Children Collide have just had their song ‘Skeleton Dance’ remixed by those synth-loving lovelies in Ladytron for the FIFA 10 soccer game, released by EA Games. I’m not so much into soccer/football or video games really, but I am into Children Collide, and Ladytron go alright, and so I have below the video trailer for the game, featuring the remix. It’s pretty creepy, with lots of animated football players and weirdo skeletons, dancing, funnily enough.

Det er jo lørdag, og derfor skal i da også have Ugens Guf! Jeg har for nyligt set “The September Issue”, og det var jo nok en af de bedste film i verdenen hvis du spørger mig .. Hvis du dog spørger min kæreste manglede der skyderier, eksplosioner og blod .. Jaja, de kære mandslinger! Men ja, som sagt elskede jeg den .. En af de ting jeg egentligt altid straks gør når jeg har set en film, jeg virkelig syntes er god, er at finde soundtracket på nettet . Jagten gik ind, og den sang jeg aller mest søgte, var heldigvis nummer 1 på sountracket, så den fandt jeg hurtigt ..

5) The Radio Dept. – 1995

Vaaai, o piesă aşa de drăguţă şi de nostalgică şi de… scurtă. Dar aşa şi trebuie. Melodia îmi dă oarecum o stare de optimism, îmi place foarte mult. Versurile sunt geniale!

6) O minunăţie de melodie! Duffy – Stepping Stone. Îmi place foarte mult Duffy, iar asta e melodia mea preferată de la solista galeză. Foarte fină, dar sinceră, melodia nu se fereşte de nimic.

7) Pe Flyleaf – Fully alive m-am gândit să fac şi un cover! Ce-a ieşit => EPIC FAIL! Desigur, asta nu scade din grandoarea piesei formaţiei de rock-creştin/alternativ din State. Duritatea instrumentalului şi vocea nu tocmai soft a solistei fac din melodie un must-hear.

Un duo australian format din 2 gemene… australiene, electro-pop/rock, foarte faine fetele şi ca aspect şi ca piese(n-au cum să te plictisească), scot 2 albume de studio până acum, The Secret Life Of… , în anul 2005, şi Hook me up, în 2007, cel mai de succes album al duo-ului, album pe care apare şi melodia mai sus amintită.

} A partir de hoje (05/10), começa a venda de ingressos para a o  DJ  Josh Wink, que se apresentará @ D-EGDE dia 05 de Novembro (quinta-feira).

O DJ norte-americano têm muitas influências, desde deep house até acid jazz, com música eletrônica experimental. Ele começou a discotecar nos bares underground da Filadelfia em 1987.

Seu sucesso veio em 1995 quando ele se tornou um DJ- produtor e saiu da coleira do clássicos. Com o mix de house e techno ficou conhecido mundialmente.

Ele está trabalhando agora com “Blue Jeans” do Ladytron,  Paul Oakenfold’s com “Starry Eyed Surprise” e Depeche Mode’s “Free Love”.

Dios, los dramas colegiales de los niños Disney me parecen ridículos. Para hacer famosas a esas niñitas las hacen salir con los Jonases.

Hoy creo que es el día en el que me he hecho amiga el genius de mi itunes (he dicho). Resulta que antes no me gustaban nada las mezclas que me hacía, y esta mañana, como por arte de magia, he descubierto una opción llamada mezclas genius (que creo que tendrá algo que ver con la nueva actualización que le metí ayer mismo), que me ha encantado. Tenemos las sigiuentes listas:

Sinceramente, no se yo si habrá acertado al hacer la clasificación de arriba (se que más de uno se escandalizaría), pero de momento estoy escuchando la mezcla folk y la selección está siendo increíble. ¡Mi iTunes me quiere y sabe lo que me apetece escuchar!
Aunque, ahora que lo pienso, la que se lo que me gusta soy yo, que para eso he metido las canciones…
Ya os contaré qué tal se va portando con el resto de las listas.

Scion CD Sampler V26 is just another outstanding collection of banging beats, courtesy of French producer The Toxic Avenger.  The 14-track sampler, available September 29 somewhere in the USA, features five new hair-raising Toxic tracks, with remixes from Designer Dr*gs, The Juan Maclean, Ladytron, Switch, Acid Girls, Oceleot, Jakwob, Harvard Bass and Burns.

¿Cuánto cuesta?
The album will be distributed physically for free at all Scion events, various dealerships, and retail shops nationwide.  The remixes will be available for purchase at all major online retailers, with 100 percent of the proceeds going back to the label and artists. In other words: not in Belgium. So anyone who gets his/her hands on this peace of thrash art –> mail me.

The Toxic Avenger, a.k.a. Simon Delacroix, is an electro thrash producer hailing from Paris, France. I could give you the official press release, but hey, he’s an underground god from France.
