Definitely the best figure of Nia, from Gurren Lagann, to be produced thus far that is surprisingly made by a relatively unknown figure company ‘uplark’.

The reasons are clear as to why I think that this is the best figure representation of lovely Nia to date. The figure captures her innocent charm remarkably well. Not only that, I absolutely love how her hair is done. Uplark did a spectacular job in replicating her two-toned hair.

Not to mention that the figure itself is wonderfully painted and gorgeously detailed. Above is a full body shot (nearly) of her front and back. Details I especially like are the frills on her skirt and her intricate jewels in her belt and well, jewelry.

Even her shoes ooze awesomeness. People with feet fetishes, scream for joy! (Though I’m not one of them…)

Something interesting to note, the figure can actually stand without her base! Hardly see that nowadays, what with the dynamic poses and all. We figure collectors really take bases for granted.

Another reason as to why I believe that this figure is the definitive Nia figure is due to the inclusion of exchangable heads! These exchangable heads allow you to display Nia pre or post Hair cut! Exceptional! Love the versatility and options that they give. They certainly went above and beyond with this figure.

Refreshing look indeed! (^o^)

I swear I didn’t think about it when buying this figure, but Nia and Yoko look simply made for each other. The poses compliment each other and they really fit together exceedingly well.

Sfondamento dei cieli Gurren Lagann

Dopo essermi gustato l’intera serie con il favoloso doppiaggio giapponese (sottotitolata) non posso che avere parole di elogio per la Gainax che ha spremuto lo spirito dei vecchi cartoni robot giapponesi riproponendo un opera in maniera ancora più esaltante e divertente. La storia non sarà quello che può sembrare dalle prime puntate.

I più amatori del fumetto e dei vecchi anime non potranno che apprezzare lo stile fumettistico di molte scene (vedi seconda immagine sopra), mentre dovrete dimenticare la vostra razionalità e le vostre critiche adulte su “questo non è fisicamente possibile” ecc.. Lasciate prendervi dalla passione e dalla fantasia dela storia. L’anime infatti non ha quello stile robotico all’ Evangelion, che propone un ipotetico futuro e una ipotetica tecnologia avanzatissima ma credibile, questo che avete davanti è tutt’altro, un anime in stile Shin Getter Robot The Last Day, d’ azione, di passione, schizzato e divertente, ma mai eccessivo ed a volte commovente. E come nella migliore tradizione dei bei cartoni giapponesi il cattivo non è mai il cattivo per antonomasia ed ogni personaggio ha una sua umanità e un suo senso logico, da questo non ne può che beneficiarne la storia che diventa appassionante e seguibile.

Ed infine voglio elogiare l’animazione che è semplice, dinamica e veloca. Non si spreca nei dettagli e ricorda quello stile anni 80 di Mazinga o Jeeg Robot, le trasformazioni, le unioni. I robot hanno le loro “espressioni” e danno forma al carisma del pilota, praticamente agli antipodi cè Patlabor. Le musiche, molto belle. Il finale mi ha commosso.

• Informazioni

Al momento sta andando in onda sul digitale terrestre di Rai4, ma a novembre dovrebbe uscire anche il DVD in italiano della prima metà della serie.

È stato prdotto anche il lungometraggio come potete vedere dal primo trailer qua sotto, ma non consiglio di guardarlo se non prima di essersi gustati tutte le 27 puntate. Il lungometraggio non è altro che un riassunto della prima metà della serie senza variazioni significative però molti aspetti ed episodi divertenti vengono a mancare. Le scene dei combattimenti finali contro i tre generali rimasti che nella storia sono separate, nel lungometraggio si svolgono in un unico contemporaneo duello, è l’unica differenza.

At long last, some semblance of what can be considered decent loot has gathered at my front door step over the past few days.

Armed with my novice photo-taking skills and a way too expensive camera, let me break my loot down for you.

One of the best Nia figures I’ve seen thus far that is surprisingly made by a relatively unknown figure company ‘uplark’. They also made a Viral figure which also seems awesome as well.

I absolutley love the box design! Especially with the little cutout at the back that allows you to view the back of the figure. Nice pantsu view. (^.^)

Not only is this figure gorgeous, the feature that makes this figure really stand out from the rest of the crowd is the inclusion of exchangable heads! These exchangable heads allow you to display Nia pre or post Hair cut! Exceptional! Love the versatility and options that they give.

Of course, a photo review will most likely be coming. (Hopefully…)

Next, we have the two newest additions to the Lucky Star figma series, Figma (Tsukasa + Miyuki) Summer Uniform Versions. You can bet that they will be reviewed on upcoming episodes of ‘Actar’s Reviews’, but due to my exams, it is still uncertain when these episodes will debut…

The second Figma Belka Knight to be released, from the series Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s (StrikerS doesn’t exist for me) is Figma Shamal. The ‘healer/mage’ of the group that, from my understanding, doesn’t seem as popular as the other Knights. Will review her eventually, same as the Lucky Star Figmas…

TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (天元突破 グレンラガン Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan, ou simplesmente TTGL) que teria por tradução aproximada algo como “Avance pelo Paraíso Gurren Lagann” é uma série de Light novels escritas por Kurasumi Sunayama e Kazuki Nakashima. Em 2007, a Gainax resolveu lançar uma série anima contendo 27 episódios, com Hiroyuki Imaishi como diretor.

Primeira parte: お前のドリルは、天を突き破るドリルなんだよ！(Sua broca será a broca que avançará pelo universo!)

Breve resumo da história

A história de Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ocorre em um future fictício em que os seres humanoid foram forçados a viver no subsolo terrestre. Por conta da devastação e do medo, as pessoas não encontram outra opção senão cavar cada vez mais profundo a fim de se protegerem, neste sentido aparecem certos indivíduos que tem por função cavar, os “diggers”.

Mas sim, e o kiko?

Bem, acalme-se nobre amante da arte Sci-fi! Eis que encontramos um dos personagens principais: Simon, um menino de 14 anos que já trabalha como “drigger” em sua vila, a Vila de Giha. Ele é muito respeitado pelos outros “diggers”, mas apenas por eles. Nesse momento ele encontra Kamina, um camarada em excêntrico e agitado que sonha em ver a superfície. Ele convida Simon para entrar para “Time Gurren”, uma equipe que ele lidera a fim de chegar à superfície. Contudo, nem tudo são rosas e Kamina falha (mais uma vez) em sua (zibilhar) tentativa. Com isso o líder do Time Gurren se vê encarcerado.

E o Simon? Cadê?

Nossa, eager aren’t we?
Simon, nesse meio tempo, encontra uma enorme estátua em meio a suas escavações. Ele resolve ir procurar Kamina para mostrar seu achado, quando descobre que seu ‘herói’ será punido em praça pública. Neste momento aparece a arrebatadora Yoko (A fan-service girl da série) que resolve salvar Kamina, mas o máximo que consegue e retirá-lo do local já que o teto da vila resolveu cair em cima de todos. Com isso, Simon leva seus dois amigos até a estátua gigante que havia descoberto antes. Nisso, em uma cena magnífica, Simon percebe que na verdade é um robô e que somente ele poderá acioná-lo (com seu pingente em formato de broca).

Ei, porque o teto caiu?
Opa, pensei que você iria ignorar essa parte.
Pois é, o teto cai por conta de uma criatura que pilotava um robô semelhante ao que Simon encontrou. Em uma batalha épica (muito comum em TTGL), eles derrotam o inimigo e chegam a superfície.
Aqui eu dou uma paradinha, o resto seria um major spoiler.

Simon é um molequinho de 14 anos (inicialmente) que trabalha como um digger na vila de Giha. Um dia ele encontra um objeto semelhante a uma roca e um robô gigante. Ele admira muito Kamina, quem ele considera um ‘irmão mais velho’. Ele é muito EPIC WIN! Um de meus personagens favoritos ever!

Kamina é um jovem da vila d Giha que sonha em voltar a superfície. Ele é muito energético e um pouco espalhafatoso, além de ter um poder de convencimento em um nível ÉPICO e uma sorte monstruosa (ROLA O D20 E TIRA UM 20 NO CRÍTICO TOTAL!!!!!!!!!!).
Kamina tem tudo de ÉPICO que se possa imaginar. Cara, ele é meu ‘muso’.

Nia é uma moça misteriosa que Simon encontra no meio de suas andanças dormindo em uma cápsula. Ela é muito curiosa e inocente, e tem uma forte relação com Simon.

Boota-chan é o mascote (não é oficial, mas, é sim. =P) do Time. Ele parece uma mistura de porquinho-da-índia com toupeira que usa óculos escuros e uma marca em formato de estrela no lombo. Ele é muito fofinho e tem uma certa… Hã… ‘Afinidade’ com a Yoko.

Ele foi inimigo, mas no fim se tornou um grande amigo. Outro personagem que alcança níveis ÉPICOS na série, que se eu falar demais, falarei spoilers. Bem, ele é um ‘Beastman’ com características felinas e com dentes de tubarão. Ao contrário da maior parte dos Beastmen, ele parece bem mais humano. Ele é um piloto de Gunmen excepcional! (E sim, adoro ele )

TTGL tem vários temas que sempre estão presentes nos episódios, tais como as espirais e as brocas. A própria história parece se comportar como uma broca, avançando pouco a pouco até cegar em um momento impactante. EPIC TO THE END!
O tema recorrente se torna a evolução das pessoas, não só e termo de genética mais em termos de crescimento moral e espiritual. É praticamente um ‘Golden Path’ de Duna com novos ares. Se você gosta de Duna, vai adorar TTGL!
Há toda uma questão filosófica e de como é importante buscarmos realizar nossos sonhos. Porque não basta apenas acreditar em tudo por mero conformismo… “Acredite em mim que acredita em você”!

She is beautiful. She has a mirror base. But even without a base you can put her nicely on display. The one slight problem that I had with her, was that her hair pin was very fragile. It would snap right away if you are not careful.

Yoko bounty hunter. To me it represents the real Yoko. The way she is dressed, the way she looks, the way she holds the gun.

She looks really great. The details are very nice. Even the small gun seems to be flawless. When I saw that this one was going to be released I ordered her immediately. I just had to have her. But Alter does make good pvc figures. Look at Kanu and Choun from Ikkitousen. They are very solid on their base. I like that.

Well, I was saying earlier that I was going to do a blog entry on my confusion over Twilight star Robert Pattinson, but for now I think I’m going to let that percolate in mi cabesa. In the meantime, though, let me share with you a song that I’ve been in love with for weeks now. It holds no particular meaning for me, to be honest, but it’s just a song you wanna pump to the max when you listen to it in the car. It really gets my juices going!      The mecha genre of anime is one that continues to thrive, with quality shows like Gundam 00 and Code Geass popping up all the time.  But few in recent years have taken the world by storm the same way that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has.  I would go so far as to say that it’s the inheritor of the mantle enjoyed by such classic mecha shows as Mobile Suit Gundam, Robotech, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.  Admittedly, it’s a lot sillier than any of those shows, but it’s just as good.  The premise of the show is that, in the future, the people of Earth live underground.  The ground is highly unstable, and people called diggers are always drilling deeper to try and keep humanity alive.  On the surface, creatures called beastmen pilot giant robots called Gunmen to keep the human population in check.

     Enter Simon.  Simon is one such digger, and he has absolutely no self-esteem whatsoever.  But he’s quite good at his job.  And he has his “soul-brother,” Kamina, to back him up.  Kamina, in total contrast to Simon, is outwardly brimming with self-esteem and vigor, to the point that he seems over the top.  When a Gunmen and a beautiful, buxom woman named Yoko burst into their village, Kaminas ees this as an opportunity to visit the surface world, and he takes Simon with him.  By using the minature Gunmen that Simon discovered, which Kamina names Lagann, the trio begin their adventures.  They quickly find another Gunmen that Kamina steals and names Gurren.  During a fight with the beastman who would become their archnemesis, Viral, Simon and Kamina fuse their two Gunmen together, creating the powerful Gurren-Lagann.  Over time, they meet other characters, like the flamboyant Leeron, the leader of the Black Siblings, Kittan, the withdrawn yet intelligent Rossiu, and the kind, innocent Nia.

     Ultimately, the show, through the symbolism of Spiral Energy, shows the limitless power of human beings.  Their power is so limitless that, should they so desire it, they could even stop the very problems that they themselves cause, which in this case, is the Spiral Nemesis that the Anti-Spirals so fear.  As the series progresses, the mecha get increasingly larger and more ridiculous.  In fact, the plot is pretty ridiculous at times.  The Gunmen are basically walking faces, and Spiral Energy is so powerful that it can create galaxies.  That’s pretty silly sounding, if you ask me.  And yet, the main thing that this series has is that extra factor that makes it superb.  The plot may be silly, the music often forgettable (minus the opening and ending theme songs), and the animation at times almost satirical.  But you can’t help but love this series.  You can’t help but love the characters and love all the craziness for what it is.  The best single part of the series is the voice acting, which is absolutely top notch.  I may not always say that Japanese seiyuu are better than American voice actors, but this is one instance where there’s just no comparison.  If you love anime, you’ve got to see this show.  I doubted at first, but I don’t any longer.  It’s just that awesome.

Looks like another Yoko figurine worth getting. She’s starting to chase after Kanu Unchou in number of incarnations in the figurine arena. This one was originally a real image figurine in resin format and could be purchased in E2046. But now, it looks like Max Factory is making a PVC version but they’ve modified the face a bit to look more cartoonish. I personally prefer the newer face as the real image version doesn’t really suit her.

And my goodness, look at that cameltoe…

Also, Revoltech’s coming out with the rest of the Gurren Lagann forms, including the one before Gurren and Lagann would gattai. You can click on the image to get transferred to the Hobbystock site to see the rest of the images. ^_^

So a lot to look forward to for TTGL fans out there. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing newer painted proto shots of the Max Factory Yoko as well as anticipating the Alter Yoko Gunner ver.
