Monta vs. Kobe!  The Lakers invade the Oracle tonight.  We’re hoping that the newly super-charged Warriors can get an upset win, but let’s be real, all eyes will be focused on the battle of one-named wonders.  Can Monta do to Kobe what he did to Brandon Roy?

There are a few other interesting storylines:  Rony Turiaf practiced yesterday, and may be available.  I’m kind of doubtful that he plays in this game, but wouldn’t it be great if he did?  And how about this: Devean George is alive!  He also practiced yesterday, and might be available.  George might be useful to feed to Ron Artest, after he gets done munching on Anthony Morrow.

And then there’s Vlad Rad on Pau Gasol.  This is Vlad’s chance to show Big Chief Triangle what the Lakers might have done to the Celtics if Don Nelson had replaced Phil Jackson in the finals, and the Lakers had run, run, run, rather than walked the ball up the court.  Can he drop a few big threes on Gasol’s head?  Can he hold him off the boards?  Can he beat him down court?  If I can peel my eyes away from Monta and Kobe, this is the matchup I’ll watch.

The Warriors are +9 home dogs to the mighty Lakers.  Obviously, the bookies still don’t believe in the Warriors’ resurgence that we’ve witnessed in the last three games.  Or perhaps they just believe more in the Lakers’ all-star roster.

Bobcats Update: The Bobcats beat the Cavs 94-87 last night.  They have now won three straight, and are 5-1 ATS since the Jackson trade, 4-1 ATS since I began the Bobcats Bet.  Gerald Wallace played Lebron even with an assist from Stephen Jackson in the fourth quarter.  This is what Jackson did to the Cavs’ starting 2-guard, Anthony Parker:  0 for 4.

And on offense, Jack is starting to find his groove.  Here’s Gerald Wallace:

[The Jackson trade] made a huge difference, Wallace said, for [the Bobcats'] playmaking ability. Wallace recalled a sequence where the Bobcats successfully ran the same play through Jackson five straight times.

“We’ve never been able to do that against Cleveland – make them adjust to our offense,” Wallace explained.

Tonight, the Bobcats play back-to-back against the Wizards in Washington.  They are +3.5 road dogs.  Again, this is a tighter spread than we’ve seen in the past, which is something to be concerned about.  But I’m still on the Bobtrain.

Controversial Los Angeles Laker star Ron Artest is caught up in an investigation of welfare fraud against his sister Latoya Holmes-Ivey.

Police and housing authorities raided the home Latoya Holmes-Ivey and her three children rent at 336 E. Burgess Ave. Wednesday morning.

Holmes-Ivey is suspected of receiving federal housing assistance, as well as other social services, while receiving financial assistance from her millionaire basketball/rapper brother, and not reporting it.

That is welfare fraud, and is a criminal offense.

A tip came from a former CPA that handled Ron Artest financial affairs a Tennessee-based accounting firm called TriStar Sports and Entertainment.

According to court documents, the ex-employee sent an e-mail to the Housing and Urban Development Office in Indianapolis claiming that TriStar, under the direction of Artest, was using one of his bank accounts to pay all of Holmes-Ivey’s bills.

 The man requested to remain anonymous, saying that he could not, in good conscience, fail to report such an ethics infraction.

Ron Artest may want to check the wording in that non-disclosure form that I am certain the former accountant signed, as the accounting firm’s reputation has got to be destroyed by this leak. Confidentiality between their clients is key to their business.

If the former CPA did sign a non-disclosure form, then his disclosure of this information, even if it is to be found true, will be admissible in court, and will be the reason that all charges will be dropped.

The neighbors of Holmes-Ivey said they were skeptical of her, because she used to brag about who her brother was.

“I never understood why she was on assistance because of that, when she told me he was her brother,” said Marcia Taylor. “The people who do need the assistance don’t get it, when the people who don’t need it get a lot of time.”

None of the parties involved were available for any further comments on this matter.

The AP is reporting that the legendary professional Basketball player Allen Iverson is set to announce his retirement from the N.B.A. Iverson , a former Most Valuable Player for the N.B.A. has been in the league since the 1996 season, in which he was drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

He played with the Sixers for 10 years. During his tenure he was Rookie of the Year, League MVP, 2x All-Star MVP, and led the league in scoring for four years. After his rookie season, during which he led the 76ers in points, assists and minutes, Iverson was named the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year and was a member of the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The 10-time All-Star played three games this season with Memphis before taking a leave of absence to attend to personal matters. He was waived after the two sides agreed to part ways.

The New York Knicks considered signing Iverson last week after he cleared waivers, before deciding he would take too much playing time away from younger players they are trying to develop.

With no apparent interest from any other NBA teams, Allen Iverson is set to retire.

Iverson will always be credited for popularizing the streetball style move called the cross-over, and for his exciting tricky aggressive driving style of play.

He was never the tallest on the floor, just the most dangerous player that always wanted the ball.

Allen Iverson is a sho-in for the Hall of Fame, and I suspect that he can still run with the best of them, given a team that can design their plays to allow Iverson to shoot at will.

I personally enjoyed the years I got to watch him compete in the NBA, and I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.

The common thought is that domestic violence is a problem of "woman". While there are more reports of abuse involving women, it is a fact that men are abused by their domestic partners as well.

My belief is that there is indeed a factor in sex when we think of abuse in the sense "general". The average of all forms and manifestations of violence: reckless conduct, competitive, violent assault, abuse related to lowered inhibitions, excessive stressReactivity under-developed interpersonal and communication skills, and abusive behavior that may be a byproduct of drug-seeking behavior and so on.

However, I do not think there is more than a factor of sex when it comes to abuse of the function of "domestic violence" (domestic violence, spousal abuse, domestic violence), as defined in the professional literature. Compared with this syndrome, there are more of a "human factor" at the base of hisdynamics.

The real factor

It is a human factor which is fundamentally controlled. Violence may be a manifestation of domestic violence, domestic violence, but it is really controlled. And do not think it matters whether the control of the party is wearing pants or a skirt, if he / she participates as head of household or as a maid, or if the person deposits or checks cash them.

Domestic violence is not bound by traditional male femalestereotypes, but it is obsessive compulsion of man to control. One could also say that addiction is a psycho-social control.

In my study and practice of psychotherapy, and in my life, I see almost as many men who are victims or battered by their female intimate partners as women. (Studies show that nearly 40% of victims of domestic violence each year are men.) The only difference I see between a man and abuseabuse of women and social policy around their problems.

As I got home tonight at 12:00pm I realized the Knicks were playing the Lakers out in LA. As I realized it was the tail end of the game I checked in knowing how bad the Knicks would be getting destroyed, which as a result would give Adam Morrison some garbage minutes. I was right. Morrison played the last nine minutes of the game, totalling zero points as he barely missed the one shot he took. I haven’t seen him play in a while, but I noticed something pretty odd, he actually was playing pretty good defense on Danilo Gallinari. Morrison really has been given a pretty raw deal thus far in the NBA, which I guess is deserved after being crowned “the next Larry Bird.” I then stumbled upon an article about his career:

Morrison went to Vegas to play on the Lakers summer league team after Kupchak suggested he do so. Morrison averaged a spectacular, team-high 20.6 points and had that gleam back in his eyes, that one he had playing at Gonzaga.

Think about it, Morrison has really only played one season in the NBA. His rookie year, which he actually played well the first half of the season. He missed the next season due to a torn ACL, then was basically run out of town by Larry Brown. This guy can still play at a very high level, I wont say that he would average 20 ppg, but start him on a team and give him 15 shots a game, he is going to be productive. He is a free agent at season’s end and could help a team out big time, GET ON IT NEW YORK KNICKS. In all honesty, he would be best off going to a team like Portland or dare I say the Utah Jazz.

Who ever said high school algebra was worthless?  It is so wonderful seeing mathematics put to good use.  Not only did my system call another 3-0 night plus a 1-0 NHL game, it called it with such beauty I cannot describe it.

What I am mainly referring to here, is the Pacers-Raptors game.  The spread was set at +5 for the Pacers, but that was too low according to my system.  The only number that worked for it was using the Pacers in a 7pt teaser, making the spread +12.  And what ended up happening? The Pacers went on to lose by 11 points! Wonderful!

The other beautiful game was the Knicks-Lakers game.  The spread had the Lakers as a -13 point favorite. My GF system did not like that, though. But you know what it did like? A -9 point spread. and How much did the Lakers win by? 10! Boo-Yah!

Obviously I know I’m going to lose a few games here and there as no system is perfect. My guess is I will probably get a loss tomorrow as there are 12 NBA games and 14 NHL games.  I’m not saying I know I will get a loss tomorrow, I’m just saying the odds would indicate I’m due for one soon.  I fully intend on looking at all of them to find the most playable games and hopefully I don’t lose.  We’ll see though.  With 26 games to analyze, though, I’ve got my work cut out for me.

All-in-all, tonight, I was 4-0 SU, 6-0 ATS (counting both teasers), but only 1-3 O/U.  I’m gonna have to work on that last one.
