Ah! Das Jahr 1989! War das ein Jahr! Die Russen zogen sich aus Afghanistan zurück, auf dem Platz des himmlischen Friedens zeigte die chinesische KP was sie so unter Frieden versteht, Ronnie Reagen ging, Georg Bush sen. kam, Herr Chomeini zeigt der Welt was er unter muslimischer Toleranz versteht, Solidarność wurde wieder zugelassen, die Mauer fiel, Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler hielt endlich die Fresse und der Teichrohrsänger war Vogel des Jahres. Und ich bin dabei gewesen. Na ja jedenfalls lebte ich damals und bekam davon gerade soviel mit, wie man als 20jähriger eben mitbekommen kann, wenn der primäre Lebensantrieb darauf besteht, möglichst viele Frauen flachzulegen. Mit anderen Worten, ich erinnere mich praktisch an gar nichts mehr.

Woran ich mich allerdings deutlich entsinne, ist die größte Demütigung der Weltgeschichte, seit Darwin der Menschheit ihre Affenabstammung erklärte. Und sie passierte mir. (die Demütigung, nicht die Affenabstammung) Meine damalige Freundin zwang mich damals nämlich unter Androhung andauernden Sexentzuges dazu, eine Tanzfläche zu betreten und(!) zu tanzen.
Nun muß man wissen, daß ich nicht tanze. Und ich meine jetzt nicht, daß ich zu schüchtern oder gehemmt wäre, daß es mir peinlich wäre, beim Tanzen beobachtet zu werden. Nein, “ich tanze nicht” meint, daß ich aus genetischen Gründen nicht in der Lage bin, auch nur in Grundzügen zu begreifen, wozu Tanz überhaupt gut ist, geschweige denn, daß ich mich einigermaßen angemessen zu Musik bewegen könnte. Das ist bei mir so eingebaut, und daran kann ich genausowenig etwas ändern, wie an meiner Augenfarbe oder an der Tatsache, daß ich Deutschlands bester Liebhaber bin.
Das soll nun nicht heißen, daß ich mich nicht schon gelegentlich discofoxmäßig bewegt hätte, aber die meisten Frauen erkennen recht schnell, daß meine Begabungen auf anderen Gebieten liegen, und quälen mich nicht länger. Nun würde ich den Tausch Sex gegen Tanz nicht zwangsläufig als Demütigung verstehen, aber meine Freundin zwang mich eben nicht einfach zum mehr oder minder rythmischen Herumtippeln, sondern zum LAMBADA-Tanzen. Der Lambada, liebe junge Hobbitse mit der Gnade der späten Geburt, ist nun ein Tanz, der zwar in der Kulturgeschichte des Tanzes kaum über eine Fußnote hinauskommen würde und für geübte Tänzer auch nicht sonderlich schwierig sein mag, aber er erfordert doch mehr Beweglichkeit als ein Bügelbrett und ich aufzubringen in der Lage sind, und außerdem bin ich von soviel Lebensfreude eindeutig überfordert. Natürlich “tanzte” ich trotzdem. Sex gab es dennoch nicht, weil ich dieses Traumas wegen,  erst mal 4 Wochen keinen hochbekam, und danach hatte ich die Gute schon in den Wind geschossen. Manchmal träume ich noch heute von dieser Nacht, und nichts ist mir je so peinlich gewesen*. Diese Geschichte muß ich schon mindestens 3,5Milliarden mal erzählt haben. Ich habe sie im Firmenintranet und als Comic veröffentlicht, Hollywood denkt über eine Verfilmung nach, Spiegel-TV berichtete in einer dreistündigen Dokumentation und nur zur Sicherheit habe ich sie auch auf meine Visitenkarte drucken lassen. Kurz, jeder, aber auch absolut jeder, der mir schon mal von Angesicht zu Angesicht gegenüberstand, weiß, daß man mich besser nicht zum Tanzen auffordert.

Um so weniger kann ich es verstehen, daß es immernoch Frauen gibt, die glauben, mir eine Freude damit zu bereiten, mich zu so etwas einzuladen:

Har lyssnat på en gammal låt som heter Lambada från 1989 väcker minnen från 90-talet! PS det gick bra för det nationaldemokratiska British National Party (BNP) vänsterextremisterna som samlats utanför BBC kunde inte stoppa Nick Griffin från att delta i debattprogrammet Question Time. Han sa så här efteråt i en tidningsintervju:

I en The Times-intervju hade han då skrattat åt turbulensen kring Question Time.

– Tack “Auntie”, sade Griffin, användande sig av BBC:s smeknamn.

– Den enorma uppståndelse som skapats. . . runt det här för oss upp på en helt ny nivå av politiskt erkännande, sade Griffin till Londontidningen.

Mediebolaget försvarar sig med att BNP (British National Party) i och med sommarens EU-val nu är ett parti som är representerat i valda organ och att det därför inte bör uteslutas.

This week the dancers performed one of the four new dances to this season which are the Lambada, Charleston, Bolero, and the Country Two-Step. First was the encore performance and the judge’s choice was Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas’s Charleston. Last week Melissa and Mark received a 19 for their Samba and this week they earned a judge’s score of 28 for their Charleston which is the highest comeback in “Dancing with the Stars” history as deemed by the show.

Shakira was tonight’s musical guest and she performed a song from her current album and her popular hit “Hips Don’t Lie” with special guest Wyclef Jean. In other news, Jake Pavelka was announced as the new Bachelor. Pavelka was part of “The Bachelorette” starring Jillian Harris. Six of the dance professionals on the show performed the two dances that will be on next week’s show. They couples will be performing either the Argentine Tango or the Paso Doble. The performers were Alec Mazo, Edyta Sliwinska, Cheryl Burke, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis Van Amstel, and Karina Smirnoff. Also all of the couples will be performing a group hustle.

All the women were declared safe! So one of the men were leaving the competition tonight.

This week on Dancing With The Stars, the couples will be performing one of four new dances, either the Bolero, the Charleston, the Lambada or the Texas Two Step. This is in a similar vein to Season 7 when they introduced the Hustle, Salsa, West Coast Swing and Jitterbug.

I’m not greatly in favour of this, but that’s probably mostly because I don’t know the dances very well, and find it hard to know what to look out for in them, unlike the usual ballroom/latin. One thing I do like about this idea though, is that it gives everyone an idea of how hard it is to learn a completely new dance routine in a week, as these are not dances the professionals are usually performing. I think the standard generally is quite low, and the judges marks are based on the performance, and whether or not they like it, rather than any strict criteria, as they do not have experience in judging these dances.

The Bolero

For most of us in the UK, ‘Bolero’ means one thing. Torvill and Dean winning Olympic Gold at Sarajevo in 1984, after performing to Ravel’s Bolero and being awarded 12 perfect 6.0s, to date, the only time this has happened. If you are not as old as me, then you might know it from watching Dancing On Ice!

Turns out, though, that bolero is a proper dance, not just a very famous ice dance routine. Along with cha cha, rumba, east coast swing, and mambo, bolero is one of the five rhythm competition dances in American style ballroom dance competition, is a close cousin of the rumba, and is the slowest rhythm dance, at 96bpm. I’m not sure that will be evident in the DWtS dances, as traditional music is unlikely to feature highly. It is believed that the dance developed from Spanish folk dances such as the Beguine, and was introduced to the US in the 1930s, probably from Cuba. Mostly, these should look like rumbas, although a little slower, and uses figures such as cross body leads, open breaks, underarm turns, fifth position breaks and crossover breaks.

In this video, Strictly’s Kristina Rihanoff performs a bolero with Brian Jolly in 2003, and it does look much like a slow rumba.

The bolero will be performed by Natalie and Alec, and Michael and Anna this week.

The Charleston

The Charleston is quite well known, and developed in the US in the 1920s, during the prohibition era, in the speakeasys. Originally it was danced by the ‘flapper’ girls alone, and started with the feet remaining on the floor. The kicks which are so widely recognised now were added when the dance spread to Harlem.

The dance developed over the years, and eventually led to the Lindy Hop, and several variations of the Charleston, which can be danced alone, with a partner or in groups.

The Charleston will be performed by Kelly and Louis, Donny and Kym and Melissa Joan and Mark.

The Lambada

Until now, I thought this was a dance that was made up for the film. It is, however, a proper Brazilian dance, which has roots in the merengue, among others. It can be danced alone, with a partner or in a group, like the Charleston, but there seem to be very few set rules. It appears that this dance is often done barefoot, and if danced with a partner, the couple should remain in close contact throughout the dance.

Many of the moves are recognisable from the other Latin dances, and again, this seems to be quite a slow dance.

The Lambada will be performed by Joanna and Derek, Aaron and Karina and Mya and Dmitry.

The Texas Two Step

The Texas Two Step (or Two-Step, sometimes) is a fast, social dance. In competition, it must be danced at between 182 and 198 bpm, beginners would usually start at around 130, whilst accomplished dancers can managed over 200bpm! The two step is danced with a partner, but can be in either open, closed or shadow hold. It looks a lot like a swing dance to me, and most of the exhibition dances I’ve seen have featured a lot more than the basic three steps which comprise the dance – a quick step, a quick step and a slow step. It’s also the only dance I’ve seen so far where the girls all wore cowboy boots!

There’s also a Rhythm Two-Step, which is mostly confined to Arizona, and is danced on the same spot, without moving around the floor, and a Triple Two Step, which is a slower dance and is sometimes called a shuffle.

The Texas Two Step will be performed by Mark and Lacey and Louie and Chelsie. Tom and Cheryl would also have performed this, if they had not been forced to withdraw due to injury.

Even though Tom De Lay suffered stress fractures in both feet, he still danced this week despite the doctors’ and producers’ wishes. Tom De Lay was declared safe tonight but he had to withdraw from the competition. So tonight, October 6, 2009, was an impromptu double elimination. First was the encore performance and the surprise judge’s choice was Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebrunskaya’s Samba routine which earned them a judge’s score of 17 from this week’s performance night.

Queen Latifah performed 2 songs from her upcoming album and the Macy’s Stars of Dance performance featured the JabbaWockeeZ (America’s Best Dance Crew – Season 1 Champs) dancing to Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ in the Rain”.  **VIDEO ADDED: Watch their performance here.**

Sabrina Bryan (DWTS Season 5) was announced as the viewers choice poll winner as the celebrity returning for the Design a Dance segment. Thus far the Design a Dance results are:

Bryan’s partner was Mark Ballas back in Season 5, I wouldn’t be surprised if the poll results revealed that Ballas would be teaming up with Bryan again.

Há tempos acordo cantando a música “Chorando se foi…” (Kaoma Remold) não sei por quê.  Mas navegando hoje pela net e folheando umas revistas, eu já sei: os anos 80 estão me perseguindo. Ou nos perseguindo.

Que a moda é um ciclo a gente já sabe, mas pelo que eu to vendo, acho que a gente não está regredindo e sim revivendo os anos 80! Eu estou me sentindo em casa.

Será que a nostalgia está na moda?

Era uma vez uma menina, que como todas as outras, ouvia histórias de encantar e sonhava com um mundo ideal.

Essa menina tinha bonecas para brincar e adorava dançar. Vestia uma saia branca com flores, cheia de rodados e um cinto preto e balançava-se ao ritmo da música. Naquela altura, ouvia-se e dançava-se a lambada.

Enquanto se movia a menina era transportada para outro mundo, o sítio dos sonhos. E sonhava.. sonhava muito.

Anos mais tarde, a mesma menina voltou a ouvir a música que a fazia vibrar em pequena, lembrava-se da letra e dos movimentos. Voltou a viver as boas sensações que sentia em criança.

Numa noite, sem nada que o fizesse prever, uma tartaruga voou para ela, vindo lá de longe, e abriu-lhe a porta dos sonhos… E tudo aquilo que ela idealizou, os desejos mais intímos que ela guardava em si sempre que ouvia e dançava a música, tornaram-se passíveis de ser verdade.

Para que a menina possa sempre dançar, aqui deixo a música.
