Researchers at Brown University have injected a cocktail of carbon nanofibers and stem cells directly into the brains of rats. And as if that wasn’t enough, the rats had already suffered strokes. The result? The nanotube and stem cell cocktail healed neural tissue damaged by the stroke.

Working in collaboration with researchers at Yonsei University, Seoul, Brown Professor Thomas J. Webster combined neural stem cells with either hydrophobic or hydrophilic carbon nanofibers and injected the cocktail into damaged regions of the brains of rats that had suffered a simulated stroke. After a few weeks, both types of nanofibers with stem cells promoted the growth of new neural tissue. On their own, neither nanofibers nor stem cells triggered neural tissue regeneration.

Webster attributes the mixture’s regenerative power to the fibers’ favorable interaction with laminin, a key protein for promoting stem cell differentiation into neurons. Webster also thinks the nanofibers’ ability to conduct electricity could help wire the neurons to one another.

Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin, Paul penned those words. And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together…one cell to another….by the cross.
You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything other than the mark of a Creator who knew EXACTLY what laminin “glue” would look like long before Adam even breathed his first breath!!

AND REGARDING THE BIRTH OF THE MALTESE IDENTITY WITHIN THE EUROPEAN MIND (actually within ‘the world’s mind’ – for apart from Russia, Africa and distant India and China,the rest did not exist as yet)

During the Maltese historical experience as a Nation when did that defining moment occur when, within the collective consciousness of the other peoples who inhabit the Earth, we Maltese became considered ‘a Nation’ ?  

Actually, this moment could also be defined as the same crucial time when we did indeed become the ‘Maltese people’!

That period was a moment of siege, of trial, a time when we overcame an enemy and experienced his departure and his defeat. That event coincided with the Feast of Our Lady’s Nativity, September 8, 1565 AD.

That is the defining moment in history (as explained to me by a person who has indeed deep insight into the matter) when our people, the Maltese people, were suddenly recognised as a distinct and separate Nation by the ‘others’.

Therefor, I question the fact whether there could be some coincidence between the Feast’s date and the timing of our Nation’s identity or birth vis-a-vis foreign recognition (maybe not at par, however…. the Maltese appeared! – they were not hobbits, slightly orcish though!)

Then came the Second World War. KABOOM !!!

Following ‘Operation Pedestal’ (1942, the ‘Santa Marija Convoy’) or what was left of the convoy, entered the Grand Harbour accompanied by the Maltese manned tug boats, coincidentally this occured on August 15, 1942 – just in time for another Feast of the Blessed Virgin – the Assumption.

Now, two interesting points here emerge:- the first being that the aeroplanes from the US aircraft carrier ‘Furious’ were taken to safety in Malta (these were later used in the Battle of El Alamein in North Africa) and the second most crucial point to mention is that the US OHIO brought enough oil to prevent the Allied Forces in Malta to capitulate the Island to the Nazis – a plan which – (hadn’t Operation Pedestal succeeded) was to be carried out on August 31, 1942 AD !!

It is evident that the fact that Malta did not fall into Axis hands enabled a quicker victory in North Africa against Rommel’s bent cross and also enabled the beginning of the Southern invasion of Italy by the Allied Forces.

In Conclusion:-

1) the Southern push against Hitler was enabled in the above mentioned manner

I am writing to you from my dingy desk. Ok it’s not really dingy, it’s white and actually quite neat and am not out for lunch BECAUSE I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE REVELATION THAT I GOT (yes that’s why everything is in CAPS) as I was thinking about clinical trials and blood samples (don’t ask. I don’t know why too) and all of a sudden it’s like this switch came on and it’s like BAM! I just have to SHARE it with YOU PEEPS! So this is what I got:

Once you acknowledge that Jesus is Lord and that He lives INSIDE of us, you get LIT!

Why?

Because you are THE LIGHT of the world (which God declared to Abraham that from him shall come many nations and we will be as numerous as the stars!) and YOU are to SHINE that light that is IN YOU to the rest of the world. When God see us from above … He sees little twinkling lights. HOW COOL IS THAT?

Our DaddyGod sees the CROSS – That transfer. You know, He (Jesus) who was with no sin became sin so that WE may become sinless and pure in His (God’s) sight! Jesus’ finished work. I used to wonder what it meant. Does it mean that He sees little white sheets (you know, pure and all) from a distance?

NOPE! Probably a LIT cross. Because Jesus is our righteouness! He is IN US! So it doesn’t matter if you pray less or not read the bible or <insert other “bad” stuff>, HE STILL LOVES YOU. BECAUSE HE SEES JESUS, HIS BELOVED SON! And He loves YOU with a CRAZY, ALL CONSUMING LOVE!

Wanna know what’s really interesting too?

God made us this way, held by laminin beacuse He knew this story from start to finish. Even before there was Adam and Eve, He knew that WE’D need a Saviour.

WAH! SO CLEVER! God thwarted the enemy’s plan!

So.

If Jesus conquered the grave and lives IN US, why should we fear? Why do we worry? Why do we condemn ourselves? We have the CROSS in us! We have equal standing as Jesus in God’s eyes. Isn’t this AWESOME or what?

So what are you waiting for?

This man might be a bit extreme, but the part about laminin is really interesting!

Like alot of you, I’d seen the last of these Louie Giglio clips before.   But, never the entire sermon.  And, I know these have been around the block a time or two.  So, forgive me for perhaps being a bit late to the game.  But, after seeing this in its entirety last week, I just had to post each of the five segments here together.   They’re worth watching again, even if you have seen them.  And, for those of you who haven’t, turn up the volume on your computer a bit, sit back and prepare for your mind to be blown.   I’m tellin’ ya – if you start watching this, you won’t stop.

And, when you’re done, tell me … how big do you feel? How big do your worries feel? And, how absolutely UNBELIEVABLE is our God?  Do ya think, just maybe, that a God that can do all of this, can hold you together? 

God always gives you what you need when you need it and this morning for me this was proven again.  Here is a short video by Louie Giglio that I had seen some time ago but had forgotten about.  It is a clear scientific example about how God holds things together for the good of us all.

We have clients who have taken on the responsibility of caring for their aging parents.  These parents could still be in their own home or have moved in with their children.  In either case there are times when the children’s lives seem to be coming apart.  This is one of the rough spots for the sandwich generation, where anger, frustration and other commitments start pulling families apart.  But God knows where we are and what we need to hold it together.

I woke up this morning about 3am with financial worries (sound familiar?).  We have some commercial rental properties that have sat vacant for a long time and now I am in discussions with the lender about what the future will bring.  In the middle of the night I am wondering how am I going to hold together with the forces that are working on me.  This morning I received a tweet pointing me to a post on a blog with the unusual name of “The Cracker Lady’s House”.  Here is the link to her blog http://thecrackerladyshouse.blogspot.com

Could this day be any more boring? Doubt it.

So basically from 9am-5pm, I did 1 experiment. My objective was to identify Laminin in an extraocular muscle. (zzzzz…) Basically, it was the same procedure as finding the AChR Epsilon/SMHC except I’m finding a different thing. Unfortunately for me, there is no difference to the naked eye so basically I AM doing the exact same thing.

As of today, a medical career is definitely not for me. Hopefully tomorrow will prove to be more interesting.

I don’t know if you have heard, or heard of, Louie Giglio before.  He is from Atlanta, he’s the man behind the Passion conferences, and he will be planting a church in Atlanta with Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman as worship leaders.

Here is a great clip from a sermon of his that is worth watching on how laminin illustrates how Christ holds all things together (Col. 1:17).

The immunolocalization of several basement membrane (BM) proteins was investigated in vestibular endorgans microdissected from temporal bones obtained from subjects with a documented normal auditory and vestibular function (n = 5, average age = 88 years old). Fluorescent immunostaining using antibodies directed at collagen IVα2, nidogen-1, laminin-β2, α-dystroglycan, and tenascin-C was applied to cryosections from human cochlea, cristae ampullares, utricular and saccular maculae. Collagen IVα2, nidogen-1, and laminin-β2 localized to all subepithelial cochlear BMs, Reissner’s membrane, strial and spiral ligamental perineural and perivascular BMs, and the spiral limbus. Tenascin-C localized to the basilar membrane and the osseous spiral lamina. α-dystroglycan localized to most cochlear BMs except those in the spiral ligament, basilar membrane and spiral limbus. Collagen IV, nidogen-1, and laminin-β2 localized to the subepithelial BMs of the maculae and cristae ampullares, and the perineural and perivascular BMs within the underlying stroma. The BM underlying the transitional and dark cell region of the cristae ampullares also expressed collagen IV, nidogen-1, and laminin β2. Tenascin-C localized to the subepithelial BMs of the utricular maculae and cristae ampullares, and to calyx-like profiles throughout the vestibular epithelium, but not to the perineural and perivascular BMs. α-dystroglycan colocalized with aquaporin-4 in the basal vestibular supporting cell, and was also expressed in the subepithelial BMs, as well as perivascular and perineural BMs. This study provides the first comprehensive immunolocalization of these ECM proteins in the human inner ear. The validity of the rodent models for inner ear disorders secondary to BM pathologies was confirmed as there is a high degree of conservation of expression of these proteins in the human inner ear. This information is critical to begin to unravel the role that BMs may play in human inner ear physiology and audiovestibular pathologies.

 ‘Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.’ You see….laminins are what hold us together….LITERALLY. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell.. Without them, we would literally fall apart. And I knew all this already. But what I didn’t know is what laminin LOOKED LIKE. But now I do.

And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)….

Here is what the structure of laminin looks like…AND THIS IS NOT a ‘Christian portrayal’ of it….if you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature, this is what you will see…
