He’s all for efficiency and saving both time and resources.  He’s no time thief.  On a daily basis, he asks himself “…for every decision [I] make, is this good for the company?  Am I helping with the company’s strategic vision?”

That’s great he is so committed to the company and what he does. But really, can he not take a five minute break for a little personal time?  We’ve all had that sinking suspicion that when we’re on the phone with him, something isn’t quite right.  There’s an odd echo.  His voice periodically sounds like he is straining.  You’re hearing noises that you shouldn’t hear on a regular phone call.  You wonder to yourself if the call signals got crossed.  Sadly no, your deepest and darkest fear has come true.  He has been multitasking while in the bathroom.

Although we’re sure (i.e. hope and pray) he washed his hands when he was done and used a hand wipe on his electronic gadgets, just to be in the free, don’t ask if you can use his phone or laptop.  And no sir, I will not shake your hand.  I have no interest in a 0.0000000001% chance of an inadvertent stink palm.

dia 20 de novembro de 2008, estava eu, chateado, pouco mais de um mês que tinha terminado um namoro (mas fora de comum acordo, aquele velho papo, sabe? ela entrou com o pé e eu, com a bunda) e estava, senão me engano, freelando (prum cliente que só foi me pagar 10 meses após a data combinada e mês passado ficou fazendo malcriações, me ligando em horários impróprios, pedindo favores e não serviços, enfim: escolham bem seus clientes, moçada!) e naquela quinta-feira de chuva, em meio a devaneios e desejos, um dos pensamentos do ser mais solitário do mundo (que era como estava me sentindo) frente a um computador fora: se eu tivesse um lap top eu estaria fazendo a mesma coisa, só que vendo gente!

precisava ver gente! mas estava chovendo e eu queria ficar na internet… olha que coisa, meus problemas acabariam, além de continuar conectado à rede mundial de computadores, mataria meu desejo que ver pessoas… mas ora, acabei de receber meu computador novo (que foi um acordo com um outro cliente), pra que preciso de um outro (novo)? porque ele será portátil… ah, então tá…

um ano se passou, 300 mil coisas aconteceram, ótimo, e agora me perguntem: quantas vezes, em feriados de chuva, você foi ao ‘café’ com wi-fi para ficar online e vendo transeuntes?

confesso que nenhuma… mas me valeu muito ter comprado… o computador que ganhei está ali, encalhadinho, é uma bela caixa preta, mais conhecida como elefante branco… só me dá problema… já o portátil… uma maravilha…

já levei a lugares, sim… já levei pro saguão do meu cinema preferido (que tem internet sem fio)… e a alguns outros também… mas a idéia inicial ficou pra trás…

minha vida mudou também, né? há 364 dias atrás não esperava que metade das coisas fossem acontecer, só tinha o desejo…

não sei exatamente o porquê, mas coloco aqui algumas imagens de coisas que nunca imaginei que faria, ficariam prontas, teriam um porquê ou receberia…

antes só digo uma coisa curiosa que tenho prestado atenção: a gente, quando olha pra frente, não tem a noção do que pode fazer, mas quando olha pra trás, muitas vezes, desacredita, e acha ‘engraçada’ a forma como os fatos se sucederam… se olharmos pro futuro com a mesma facilidade que olhamos o pretérito, assim como os que ocorreram, mole, mole, os que estão por vir serão da mesma forma, é só acreditar!

um estêncil, com jet, acrílico, corretivo e posca prum amigo que é mais que um irmão!

um tênis pro meu amor… (ah, já estou aceitando encomendas, conforme for, aceito trocas também, hein?! se alguém tiver uma lente para Canon e quiser fazer um rolo… é ‘preju’, mas, como tem maluco pra tudo)

um cachecol que o amor e suas prendas me deram de presente…

A HP fechou o pacote de lançamentos para o Natal brasileiro e mostrou tudo hoje, com destaque para o computador tudo-em-um Pavilion MS200.

A versão do micro que está nas lojas tem 18,5 polegadas e aquele software MediaSmart, para comandar o acervo multimídia de um jeito legal, escolhendo discos pelas capinhas e tal. Infelizmente, ele não é touchscreen, mas tem explicação: a configuração básica custa 1.999 reais (pois é, Lenovo, aquele papo de tudo-em-um mais barato de todos durou poucas horas).

A configuração é a seguinte: processador AMD Athlon X2 3250, 4 GB de memória RAM e disco rígido de 320 GB. O micro vem com Windows 7 de 64 bits.

Outra novidade arranca suspiros da mulherada. É o netbook Mini 110, com desenho do estilista holandês Tord Boontje. A textura da tampa mostra flores em terceira dimensão, mas nada escalafobético como aquele Vivienne Tam. Com Windows 7 Starter, a máquina recebeu 2 GB de memória, processador Atom de 1,6 GHz e 250 GB de disco. A tela de 10,1 polegadas usa tecnologia LED. Custa salgados 1.999 reais.

Com tela de 13,3 polegadas LED, o Pavilion dm3 é um notebook com belo acabamento em alumínio escovado. Destaca-se também pela leveza: tem 2,5 centímetros de espessura e pesa 1,9 quilo. Também vem com processador AMD, mas o modelo é o Turion Neo X2 Dual-Core, 3 GB de memória e disco de 320 GB. Custa 2.799 reais.

O último destaque vai para o laptop corporativo ProBook 4310s. E o cara até que é bem bonito: está disponível nas cores preta e vermelha e tem aquele teclado com botões vazados, no estilo MacBook. Seu chip é Core 2 Duo, que vem acompanhado por memória de 2 GB e disco de 250 GB. Roda o Windows 7 Pro e custa a partir de 2.799 reais.

The funny thing is that I’ve been having tons of issues with the work computer and the older lap top at home was humming along just fine.    I wote 3110 words on my NaNo story on Friday night and boom, Sat morning.  the dang compter would not come on.  It has taken retirement with no notice.  No, I’ll work for 2 weeks and then draw social security. Nothing.  Just quit and walk out.  Now, is that responsible?  No.   It is just not kosher.  At all.     I sure thought the one at the office would die first.

Thank God for my Alpha Smart.  I’ve wrtten around 2800 words this morning on it.   I can sit in my comfortable chair and write, not at the desk where the non-portable machine sits.    Gotta upload the Alpha software to the desk top  and load what I wrote today to this computer.  Because I have learned, the hard way, I’m afraid. to have more than one copy of the story somewhere.  If 2 is good, 4 is better.     Enjoy this photo from Provance, France- isn’t it lovely?  It was taken by Anna Bowkis on her vacation there.

A Acer, de Taiwan, ultrapassou a Dell e se tornou a segunda maior fabricante mundial de computadores no terceiro trimestre, enquanto as vendas mundiais do setor se provaram surpreendentemente fortes, alimentando as esperanças de que a demanda esteja se recuperando.

As vendas mundiais de computadores pessoais cresceram em 2,3 por cento no terceiro trimestre, para 78,1 milhões de unidades, enquanto o setor continuava sua gradual recuperação, com todas as regiões, exceto o Japão, atingindo ou superando as expectativas de vendas, de acordo com o grupo de pesquisa IDC.

A IDC havia previsto uma queda de 2,9 por cento no volume.

Os analistas afirmam que a política de preços agressiva adotada pela Acer e pela maior fabricante mundial de computadores, a Hewlett-Packard, e a boa demanda dos consumidores ajudaram as duas empresas a conquistar mercado, enquanto a Dell, dependente da demanda empresarial, continuou a cair no ranking mundial.

As vendas da HP cresceram em 9,3 por cento, segundo a IDC, e elevaram sua participação no setor a 20,2 por cento. A HP ultrapassou a Dell e passou a liderar o mercado em 2006, e vem ampliando sua participação durante toda a crise.

A Acer se beneficiou da popularidade dos netbooks, laptops baratos e sem luxos cuja função básica é navegar na Web. O grupo manteve sua ascensão meteórica, com alta de 25,6 por cento nas vendas, o que o conduziu ao segundo lugar com fatia de mercado de 14 por cento.

A Acer, fundada nos anos 1980 por Stan Shih, um empresário de Taiwan, começou a operar como fornecedora de componentes eletrônicos e cimentou sua entrada no segmento de computadores ao adquirir a divisão de computadores portáteis da Texas Instrumentos, no final dos anos 90.

Nos últimos anos, a Acer adquiriu as fabricantes de computadores Gateway e Packard-Bell, expandindo dramaticamente sua presença no mercado dos Estados Unidos e reduzindo a distância que a separa da HP e da Dell.

The continuing onslaught of ultra thin computers that forgo optical drives is heating up. Apple started it all with their ok-spec’ed MacBook Air in 2008. Dell’s been readying itself to be crowned the thinnest, and it looks like they’re serious. Previous attempts with the Dell Adamo to dethrone the MBA were in vain. The Adamo was just too much of a premium machine to be fully appreciated. Dell is hoping round two will hit it with consumers.

There won’t be 3 USB ports, HDMI, eSata, card readers and all that goodness that is to be expected in a modern notebook, but it it should come with the greatly anticipated Windows 7.

Official tech specs haven’t been released yet and nobody has even gotten a look at the inside of the notebook, so at this point it’s a mystery. It could be an entire touch-sensitive screen like a giant Nintendo DS. The only thing that has been known about the Adamo XPS is that it is 9.99mm thin. What can be taken from these two images is that this machine is thin and that the hinge design is unlike any other.

If Dell can deliver on the specs with perhaps Nvidia Ion graphics for full HD and a decent processor, then this one might be the MBA for Windows fanboys. A competitive price to the MBA wouldn’t hurt either.

This week, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) we added a brief post about www.linux-on-laptops.com: a very useful website where you can find tons of useful information about the best Linux version for your laptop. Linux-on-laptops is graphically very poor but the information it contains are terrific; in fact you just select your laptop brand and in a new webpage you are able to find all the laptop models related to that specific brand. With a couple of clicks you select your favourite Linux OS and you are redirect to external webpages and blogs where you receive all the necessary information to quick install that specific Linux version on your laptop. In a week time we made many tests and we found all the infos we were looking for. Moreover, linux-on-laptops is really updated with the most recent laptop models and Linux versions. Recommended!

CAMPANHA BLOG DA MÁFIA

Amigos blogueros, se dice que la mala o buena suerte no existe, pero, hay otras tantas ocasiones, que de plano uno la trae jodida…

Llevo unos días, en los que de plano no la veo llegar; sólo me falta mi nube sobre la cabeza para avisar a los transeúntes que se aparten al verme pasar. Hace poco, comenzó con mi teléfono celular, un día… dejó de funcionar como teléfono, cabe mencionar que es un Blackberry… todo funciona, menos como teléfono, me salieron con que la reparación cuesta $200 USD más IVA; comencé a usar un radio de Nextel… ya se jodió también… Mi Laptop, un buen día, decidió no cargar la pila, y si lo hace, debes dearla cargando 8 horas para poder usarla 20 miseros minutos, por lo que practicamente es inútil el uso;  mi auto, por otro lado, tiene la característica de que no tiene seguros visibles, son electricos, pues… si adivinaron, se jodieron… asi que mi auto, va por la vida abierto, jugando con la suertecita que me cargo… Pero eso no es lo peor… hace un par de días, en la madrugada, escuché ruidos en casa, bajé a revisar, y me sobró un escalón… Azoté cual res… Esguince de segundo grado en el tobillo derecho.

Resignado, fuí a que me atendieran en el Seguro, me dieron 2 semanas de incapacidad, decidí guardarme en casa, trabajar desde mi PC y disfrutar de mis vacaciones a fuerza… Adivinaron… le cayó virus a la PC y se llamaba.

Ahora, mi esposa se arriesgó a prestarme su Lap… y estoy lejos de todo aparato electrico y electrónico, digo, no vaya a ser…

Estoy tentado a colgarme un collar de ajos (no vaya a haber vampiros cerca!), un collar de limones (por aquello de la tos); tener cerca una estaca, un DDT, no me vaya a picar un chingado mosco con dengue…

Si alguno de ustedes tiene algún remedio contra la llamada “Mala Suerte”, por favor! Envíenlo!!! Creo que por fin se cumplió la venganza de las cadenas de correo que no he cumplido!! Jajajajaja

   We got a bit of a shock at 01:30 this morning. The telephone went, and you know what it’s like, when you just seem to have got off to sleep. Well, I did not know what it was at first, then Mrs H jumped out of bed to answer it. It was S**** from the Leeds Festival. He was coming home for a sleep, and could we leave the door unlocked. It gives you a kind of sick feeling when you get a phone call at that time. Anyway he arrived home at around 02:15, but he was still awake 03:30, listening to an audio cd on his lap-top. He slept right through until 12:00 though. I dropped him off at 02:00pm, but he says he is coming home tonight. It will be better than trying to struggle out in the morning. Mrs H is going to pick up the majority of his stuff at 05:00pm this afternoon, so that will save some time.

   Now for a bit of a rant !!! I have been paper shredding all the old bills and statements this weekend, and am amazed at how much there was. What is really annoying is those unrequested forms from insurance and credit card companies that have all your details already filled in !!!  Why do they do that ?? Do they think that I would be so grateful that I don’t have to fill their form in, that I’ll buy their product ?? Or do they think that I’m so stupid as to not know what details and where to fill them ?? Who in their right mind would buy that kind of product, from companies that are so desperate to sell that the have to sell by junk mail ?? Stop filling my details in !!!!! I don’t want your products, and I don’t want to have to spend time shredding your waste !!

Blogging from MY OWN LAP TOP for the very first time. This, because of my big failure; I woke up about 2 hours too early, I had totally forgot that my first lesson on wednesdays starts at 10.40 AM and not 8.20 like usual. But I decided to still rise and shine so I definitely wouldn’t oversleep like I have a tendency to do nowadays. Anyhow, made me think that they should upgrade the alarm clock, most students have different times each day. If you would be able to set the alarm after your schedule, that’d be awesome! I mean in a really high tech way. Maybe you don’t understand…probably not

Yesterday, my class was on a excursion. On lunch break, our teacher told us that we’re going to HOLLAND!! IN SPRING 2010!! More about that some other time

¡Ufff! ¡Qué día! Mi laptop amaneció… mal.

En la madrugada le cayó encima el café que se quedó sobre la mesita de la sala, (obvio, yo estaba dormida, ¿cómo y cuándo le cayó?) y cuando desperté el mousse pad no funcionaba.

Después de lamentarme mucho y sentirme culpable, -tal cómo si le hubiera hecho daño a alguien muy querido, familiar o amigo-,  fui a comprar un mousse inalámbrico… Claro, la espera desde que me desperté a las 7 am hasta las 11 am que abren el centro comercial, se me hizo inmensa y seguía sufriendo.

No me costó mucho tiempo decidir entre alámbrico convencional e inalámbrico cool… Aproveché para darme una vuelta y me encontré con varios juguetitos tecnológicos (pero ese es tema de otro blog).

 Cuando regresé a casa, el mousse pad ya funcionaba bien, ¡qué alivio! ya no necesitaba entonces el nuevo. El cursor se movía divinamente al compás de la yema de mis dedos… empecé a sentirme más tranquila… Pero ¡oh! el teclado. El teclado no. ¡Cielos! Volví a la angustia de una madre que ve a sus hijos sufrir por el dolor de muela. Escribía “z” y esta pobre chiquita e indefensa la confundía con la “W”, la “C” por la “R” y la “O” era una especia de botón de “INICIO” o “ATRÁS”. Pensé a dónde llevarla y quién podría curar nuestro malestar.

Minutos después, mi amiga, la DRA. HOUSE, se conectó en el chat y empezó a conversar conmigo. Como buena médica me preguntó cómo estaba y al saberlo, siguiendo las reglas que dicta su profesión, me dio la receta para el alivio de mi angustia y el dolor de “mi chiquita”.

¡Ponla al sol!, me dijo. ¿Qué cosa!, exclamé. No creo que con el sol se arregle. Lo que tenía que secarse se secó, y por eso ya funciona por lo menos el mousse pad. Ella insistió. Está bien, reparé. Total, no podía perder nada. Al menos, todos los documentos, música y las fotografías de los últimos 2 años se salvaron.

Vale, saqué a mi chiquita al patio y la “senté” en un banquito al sol. Nunca está por demás. Los rayos del Sol siempre ayudan a los enfermos. Después de… unas dos horas, la metí. No vaya a ser que le haga daño tanto Sol y “mi chiquita” sin su bloqueador.

Me resistí por cerca de otra hora a ver los efectos del Sol en “la nena enfermita”. Pero vaya, no pude más. Y cual imagen en cámara lenta mi dedo se fue acercando poco a poco, muy lentamente al botón “ON”…

Poco a poco se encendió. Todo era normal. Sí, su usual “BIENVENIDA” los anuncios de las actualizaciones y las compras de nuevos programas…

Abrí el messenger… se tardó un poco en conectarse a la red de KIKORNO, el vecino, que por cierto no sé quien sea y seguramente él también ignora que “mi chiquita” y yo siempre nos mantenemos muy cerca de él… jejejeje. Pero mantnía mi angustia de “madre primeriza”….

No sabía si abrir un documento WORD o qué para empezar a escribir y probar el teclado. Mientras, abrí el correo del messenger, como estaba lento, opté por abrir otra ventana del explorador.

Pensé, vamos a ver qué hay de nuevo en Twitter, Facebook, mi nuevo BLOG que empecé ayer… y… ¡oh sorpresa!… Sin darme cuenta ya estaba yo tecleando direcciones normalmente y el teclado respondía a las perfección. Todas las teclas…. aquí está la prueba la estás leyendo.

¿Por qué la lap top y el café?

Hasta hoy en la madrugada siempre pensé y siempre tuve a mi lado una taza de café mientras trabajaba en la laptop, o en la computadora de la oficina. Hecho que ayer mismo repetí durante mi clase sobre nuevas tecnologías… ¿Cómo iba a empezar la clase  y a tomar notas si no tenía mi café a un lado.

Hoy, eso no existirá más. O por lo menos a un metro de distancia y la laptop sobre su base, tal como debe ser, ya que por la flojera de cargarla siempre está en el buró de mi recámara. No más.

Fui muy afortunada. Buscando info para este blog, leí y encontré historias sobre gente que presenció el desastre y por más que pudo, no logró salvar nada. He de decir, que la laptop, por cierto, estaba encendida toda la madrugada y así se quedó hasta que me di cuenta de todo.

Moraleja 1. La Lap top y el café deber ser TOTALMENTE APARTE Y SEPARABLES. Y por cierto, la tecla de “FIN” sigue así, en su fin, en punto muerto.

Moraleja 2. Si pueden estar juntos, siempre y cuando tengamos al lado el gadget que se conecta  la laptop y mantiene nuestro café bien caliente.

Ainda assim, muitas pessoas acreditam em coisas impossíveis como alguns hoaxes que circulam pela internet. Existem hoaxes de que pessoas pobres farão uma cirurgia e que alguma empresa irá pagar uma determinada quantia em centavos para cada e-mail repassado.´´

ESSE é o tão falado Lap Top Wap. Quer um igual a esse? Ou você vai logo comprar, ou escreve uma cartinha para Papai Noel (dezembro tá chegando!!!) ou divulgue meu blog para quinze milhões de pessoas  nos próximos dez minutos…

Não acredite em tudo o que você vê na internet. E muito menos repasse tudo o que você recebe prá todos os seus contatos.

Ştim cu toţii cât e de greu să trăim în epoca tehnologiei, să fugim prin viaţă, odată cu invenţiile noi scoase la fiecare secundă preţioasă din existenţa noastră efemeră.

Uite ce ne scenariu ne propune Iguana ( şi uite aşa mi-am amintit ce mult mi-ar plăcea una tatuată pe gâtul meu. H m m . . . sweet dreams)

Daca ati sti ca saptamana viitoare veti fi nevoiti sa stati incuiat in casa, singur, fara acces la telefon, internet si televizor, ce v-ati propune sa faceti, cum ati pregati aceasta… evadare in singuratate? Plecam de la premisa ca, printr-un concurs de imprejurari, ideea de a sta “incuiat” ati acceptat-o, nu este ceva “impus”.

Bună întrebare având în vedere că-s o grămadăăăăă de dependenţi în on-line-ul ăsta. Eu p-ăştia nu pot să-i înţeleg de ce se crizează aşa când n-au net vreo 3-4 zile. Aaa,da, cei mai penali sunt cei care, chiar dacă nu-s ceva mari scule prin lumea afacerilor, tot îşi cară lap-top-ul cu ei când pleacă în vacanţă . . . ce relaxare, evadare din cotidian, departe de zgomotele infernale ale maşinăriilor ăstora ce ne facilitează nouă viaţa . . astea-s chestii demodade – zic unii – aşa că trăiască net-ul, jocurile cu împuşcături, killărit, alea alea .. . ooo, da, bineînţeles că am făcut uimitoarea greşeală să uit Messengerul. Pfffiuuu, tocmai pe el l-am scăpat din vedere. A dracului, huoooo Ale, ruşine să-mi fie !

Well, eu ( înainte ) să fiu captivă-n propria-mi locuinţă, fără nimeni care să-mi futilizeze creierii . . .

În primul rând, aş da o fuguţă până la Kaufland-ul nostru cel de toate zilele. Ce-aş lua ?! Foarte simplu : caşcavaaaal ( ăsta nu-mi lipseşte veci din casă. Tocmai mi-am amintit cum, într-o excursie, pe la 3 dimineaţa, eu umblam în toată cabana aia ca disperata după caşcaval. Pusesem de acasă, dar bucatareasa a închis dulapurile cu mancarea. Ăia-s draci aduşi pe pământ de crizele mele), şuncă din piept de pui, Chefir ( e un fel de iaurt mai uşor pt stomacul tău), ulei, peşteeeee ( d.ăsta aş mânca la orice oră din zi şi din noapte), Ketchup + Pateu ( alte 2 alimente ce nu-mi lipsesc veci. Eu mănânc ketchup cu orice, toţi prietenii mei se crucesc când mă văd năvălind la deliciul ăla de sos) şi fructeeeeeeeee, muuuuuulte.

Apoi m-aş aproviziona cu un toc de hârtie şi pixuri ce scriu gros. Sunt sigură că-n 7 zile, între 4 pereţi, singură cu gândurile mele criminale , aş putea rescrie blogul de faţă , atâtea aberaţii mi s-ar ivi mie prin tărtăcuţă.

Cărţi, da’ multe, hai să nu fim zgârciţi tocmai la acest capitol. În timpul săptămânii ( cu precădere nopţile) , citesc foarte cu spor, chiar am observat lucrul acesta lately. Cam o carte pe săptămână. Vă daţi seama câte aş da gata în 7 zile de izolare totală ?!

Carioci / creioane colorate şi o cărticică de colorat dada, mulţi zâmbiţi citind asta acum, dar pe mine tare mult mă relaxează treaba asta. La şcoală, în vacarmul ăla, chiar şi-n timpul orelor plictisitoare, eu îmi scoteam cărticica şi da-i să sune, frate !

NU mi-ar mai trebui nimic altceva, poate vreun mp3 pt muzica dar , neeh, mai bine nu, că şi ăla ţine tot de tehnologie and stuff.

(mă, voi ştiaţi că . . . cică . . . cine stă toată ziua cu căştile –n urechi . . . zic psihologii . . . nu-şi suportă gândurile şi de aia încearcă să le înlăture prin tot felul de zgomote ?!)

Cam atat mi-ar trebui mie. Da, sunt puţine, dar e strictul necesar. O săptămână cu mine . . . şi cu Ale !

Another four day week. June is going to be a hard month, what with all those full weeks. Not a lot has happened really. The weekend was there I suppose, but nothing special has happened. I did email RH, but nothing has come of it yet. It may be that he does not check his email every day. I will know in another week.

I got some more seeds planted over the weekend. I did four more bowls of the mixed salad leaves, and a large trough of Rocket. Fingers crossed that it will all take. The dahlias have taken since planting out. I’m looking forward to seeing them flower. I am still wondering what to do with the rough area at the side of the deck. At the moment it is just a patch of weeds. It is very shaded, and quite dry I think, so I do not know what to do there. Where is the best place to grow rhubarb? I seem to think that they like that kind of environment.

The new lap-top came last week. It is a smart piece of kit (for the council). Comes with a docking station that puts it at an angle to make typing a little more comfy. So, in theory, I can now work from home, through a VPN connection. In practice, it is even slower that at work. It could be the wireless connection that is causing the slowness or then again it could be just the councils network that is rubbish.  I will try connecting with an ethernet cable over the weekend, but I don’t hold out much hope. Big issues with the work network today. JW from Bradford came to see how we do a process today, but because of the network problems, I could not show him anything. Hopefully he is coming back next week, and things should be different.

I watched the Champions League final, all the way through tonight. It was the best game of football I’ve seen in a long time. It was a shame Man Utd did not turn up, they would have enjoyed the game. Barcelona was by far the best side.

Having a nice chat with Nina and Anna, on MSN as I type this. I’ve not spoken to Nina for about 2 weeks. We seem to miss each other, when on-line. And as for Anna, well it was before we went to Blackpool at the beginning of April. I’ve always liked Anna. She was one of the first people that I chatted to on, what used to be Lycos chat.

I’m just about getting the hang of Twitter now. I was watching ‘Celebrity Cash In The Attic’, on Monday, and Maggie Philbin (soft spot and youthful crush) was on. It was a very good show with an important charity. I follow her on Twitter, so when she tweeted, that evening, I tweeted back congratulating her on the money she raised. To my surprise, she tweeted back to me. I got all giddy. that is a real ‘celeb’ sending me a message. A nice person.

The hospital appointment went well. No waiting about much, which is one of the features of York District Hospital. That is probably why North Yorkshire NHS Trust is in such a bad way financially. 

My consultant does not seem worried about the progress of my condition. He did explain a bit more about the problem I have. It seems that the valve that is not working correctly, is in a part of the heart that is more difficult to repair. He explained that repairing this valve is not an operation that is usually done in Britain. so what we are looking at is a replacement valve. This also has its risks and downsides. A metal valve and life on Warfarin. But he did say that I am not at that stage yet, and that here is no point doing an operation when it is not yet needed.

My new works laptop is due any day now. I’ve not taken the old one out of the drawer since last Wednesday. There’s not much point really, as I think the battery has died. It did not seem to be charging when I last used it. I have taken the floppy drive out as there is no point throwing that away, when I may be able to use it somewhere else. It will fit the other laptop, if not my new one.

I emailed the tickets and poster off this evening. I just hope they are alright. It is difficult to know what someone wants, when you only hear the details second hand. I think they look quite good, but we will wait and see. I think I will offer to laminate some of the posters. They will look better, when they are attached to the street lamps.

I planted out my Dahlias on Monday. There is about 14 of them, and they look quite good. They have done a lot better than the Nasturtiums I planted. I have the strangest feeling that the compost was too good for them. I recall reading somewhere, that they grow better in poor soil. The leaf-beat has been a great success too. We have lots and lots of leaves, and managed to cook some on Sunday night, albeit not really enough to go round.

That old work colleague from my cooks days, that I contacted on Friends Reunited, sent me a ‘jokey’ email today. I get quite a few of them from various people (mainly Sue), but this was quite a useful one. I was just reading through the list of people that he had sent the mail to, when I spotted the email address of another old colleague who I would like to keep in touch with. We met up a few years ago, when his son was going to the same school that my son goes to. This may be just the step I need to find another old friend from those days, who I would dearly like to get in touch with. That would be really interesting. JT was the guy who got me interested in computers in the first place. I have trawled the internet, trying to find him, but to no avail. I will email RH tomorrow…fingers crossed.
