Wearing a Dior Houte-Couture gown, the “it girl” of the moment graces the cover of the dember issue for the Birtish Vogue.

She has walked shows for Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Lanvin, Miu Miu, Fendi, Max Mara, Pollini, Prada, Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, Zac Posen, Balmain, Celine, Hermès, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, D&G, Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld, Missoni, Emanuel Ungaro, and Victoria’s Secret. Stone has opened shows for Giles Deacon, Isabel Marant, Christopher Kane, Fendi, and MaxMara, and closed for Diesel, Stella McCartney, and Balmain. She has also been a prestigious “semi-exclusive” for Prada, meaning she could not walk any other shows during New York fashion week or any shows in Milan before the Prada show.

Her campaigns include Calvin Klein Make-Up, Calvin Klein Jeans, H&M, Jean Paul Gaultier, Time, DKNY Jeans, Nicole Farhi,Belstaff, CK Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss Orange, De’ Type, Revlon, TSUM, Just Cavalli, Max Mara, Malizia by La Perla, Sisley, Jil Sander and Givenchy (for 5 consecutive seasons). Her covers include international versions of Vogue, Elle, The Journal, Vmagazine, i-D, and W alongside Kate Moss and Daria Werbowy.

Stone was also photographed alongside Malgosia Bela, Daria Werbowy, Randal Moore, Mariacarla Boscono, Emanuela De Paula, and Isabeli Fontana for the 2009 Pirelli Calendar. Everyone wants a piece of her. More Lara Stone.

It’s quite a contrast, in the 80’s big brows were the standard, but in this millenium it seems to go in the direction of…no brow. Or the bleached brow, if you don’t want to pluck them.

The inspiration for this article came to me while watching Australia’s Next Top Model, which is being broadcast on the Dutch TV since last monday. The girls are obviously bigger bitches than the Dutch girls, because they plucked the brow of one of the girl while she was sleeping. Not very nice…

So the girl ended up with a half plucked left eyebrow and the other one still intact. What to do? Pluck it all? Or continuesly refill the brow with a pencil? And is there a defined trend of how to wear our eyebrows these days?

I once plucked mine a bit too much- thin brows had a little revival in the nineties- but now prefer them well shaped, but not too thick. Bleached brows look good on Lara Stone, but I hated them on Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth. The other extreme was Jennifer Connelly’s almost una-brow when she played in Labyrinth. And there is Dita von Teese’s perfectly groomed arch. What is your preffered browstyle?

Puede que Madonna pensara que su talentosa trayectoria como marca tendencias estaba desaprovechada en Louis Vuitton, firma para la que posaba en su última colección de primavera-verano, y por ello decidiera cambiar de aires. Los rumores no se han hecho esperar y ahora ya se puede confirmar que Madonna será la nueva imagen de Dolce & Gabbana.

La casa de moda francesa Louis Vuitton, con la que Madonna ha trabajado durante dos temporadas, no ha tardado en anunciar a la substituta de la cantante, la modelo Lara Stone, que deberá ponerse las pilas si quiere cubrir el vacío dejado por la artista estadounidense. Seguro que sus viejos amigos, Stefano y Domenico, reciben a la reina del pop con los brazos abiertos.

Madonna, la nueva imagen de Dolce & Gabbana, trabajará con los modistos en la próxima colección primavera-verano 2010. Un repertorio de modelitos que estarán inspirados en Sicilia y con los que seguro que la cantante, de origen italiano, liga de maravilla. Lo que todavía no se ha aclarado es si también Jesús Luz, actual pareja de la cantante y modelo de la firma, posará junto a Madonna en las fotografías.

Are things so bad for i-D that they have to lure readers in with Lara Stone’s breasts? It’s too bad that people won’t pick up the worthy mag unless it’s got boobies, 8 pages of them to be exact. All’s fair in the chase for advertisers these days I guess, but the underside of Lara’s boobs, really? Am I the only one who hates the underboob? I think it’s such a no-no. Really, no one looks good like that, even the much-endowed Miss Stone.

This fabulous gangster chic spread is screaming ‘Bad B*tch’ to me. Using the 50’s as a guideline inspiration, I think that era was so feminine and real true glamour for women. So many styles have derived and been developed from that golden time which is why it is still so popular today.

Tolles Tripple Cover mit den Supermodels Eva, Helena und Claudia , dabei ist noch Lara und Georgia

i-D scaled back to six issues a year, but it hasn’t hampered their creativity for their Winter “Flesh and Blood” issue. They have three major covers featuring supers Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer, a second with Jamie Dornan and Lara Stone and a third with the emerging Georgia May Jagger (who’s looking very Lara-ish!).

It seems like Oliver Zahm, the editor in chief of Purple Magazine, has his hands full.

Not only he is the one co art directing the book about Carine Roitfeld, but now it appears he is involved in the first issue of the Chanel Magazine. 31, Rue de Cambon, is named after the iconic address where Coco made her fame and is still the headquarters of the brand in Paris.

The magazine is said to be in the similar lines of the YSL Manifesto, the booklet hand out in the main fashion cities with a gift (this year’s gift was a gorgeous tote bag).

As expected all Karl’s favorites are present in the issue, Lara Stone, Freja Erichen and of course Baptiste Giabiconi. The trio acted a menage a trois in the Chanel farm theme fashion show, in October.

Distributed in the Chanel stores, the magazine will feature Karl’s and Chanel world, complete with all the must haves and favorites.

Tina Peng, party reporter for The Cut managed to have a quick chat with Daniel Lalonde, president and CEO of Louis Vuitton, who hinted that Lara Stone, as speculated, might just take the title as the face of the brand.
Daniel Lalonde: I think she’s very fresh and someone who embodies a lot of the values of the brand, and a lot of talent and a lot of beauty. I think it makes a lot of sense for the fashion part of our campaign…

Fashion isn’t supposed to be politically correct. If it was it wouldn’t be so fun and so daring. And we know that the French especially don’t give a fuck. Which is why I love them. Just last month, my dear friend Jean, creator of the fabulous fashion blog Ledefile, alerted me to a previous issue of French Vogue with pregnant models wearing strappy high heels and smoking cigarettes.

That obviously wouldn’t fly in American Vogue mostly because Americans have sticks up their ass. But I actually enjoyed the pregnancy photo spread. Sans the cigarettes , the photos alleviate the insecure feeling most women have about what pregnancy will do their bodies and how unattractive they may become because those models were HOT.

However, in the October issue of Vogue, in a photo spread, is Dutch supermodel Lara Stone,…wait for it….wait for it…in Blackface.

And a bunch of questions popped in my mind. Is this blackface or is this art? Why not just have a beautiful black supermodel on the cover? Should the French and more specifically other countries who don’t have the same kind of sadistic historical treatment of Blacks like in America, have to tiptoe around racial issues that wouldn’t offend the majority in their country? Do they have to pay for crimes that racist Americans committed? And if they should, should Americans as well be extra-sensitive to seemingly harmless stereotypical portrayals of race when that race does not have a prevalent history of victimization in our own country?

First of all, blackface itself aggrandized negative characteristics associated with blacks. It arose in the 19^th century in the US and Britian, and the characters belonged to the plantation genre. There was the mammy, the mistress, the pickaninnies, the house slave, and they were coons to be laughed at by whites at minstrel shows. The skin color was accentuated, the lips were made more red, the whites of the eyes were emphasized, and the Negro dialect was imitated.

But looking at these images in French Vogue, I don’t necessarily see it in the same way I would see blackface propaganda. While even thinking about a white person covering herself in black make-up is shocking, these photos don’t have the same agenda as blackface performance. It is more artistic and beautiful than funny and coon-like. Primarily, in blackface the “ugliness” of blacks is amplified, and in this picture, the woman is beautiful. Beauty and Blackness were not correlations made to buttress racially hegemonic ideals.

But, why do we need a white woman to be in blackface for the image to be beautiful? Vogue already has a history of not putting black models on the covers, or only in the summer issues because the majority of their customers wouldn’t buy them. And in many letters to the Editor after Michelle Obama was featured on the cover, even though it was for politics, many readers were pissed that Vogue would put someone so unmodel-like and fashionless on the cover, e.g. black woman on the cover. Is the photographer saying something about art, or about masks? Is blackness only beautiful when it is false, or is blackness only beautiful when we see there is some underlying white characteristic? Hmmmmm.

Most of the reaction to these images have been shock by the fashion world and its readers. Especially in the wake of the recent reality show in Australia in which white performers sang Jackson Five songs in blackface and called themselves the Jackson Jive. Harry Connick Jr. was so pissed he gave them a zero.

But like Australia, France hasn’t had the same intricacies with racism towards African-Americans. France’s hegemonic power was largely enforced in North Africa, sometimes in the Caribbean, and the majority of their racism was geared toward Arabs. Additionally, America is one of the few countries that premised its’ mission of colonization on the assertion that African-Americans were sub-human. However, countries like France and Britian entertained the idea that through education and culture, the “inferior races” could be assimilated and acculturated into their society. In Macualay’s Famous Minute on Education he stated that the British wanted to have “Indians in blood and colour but European in thought and intellect.” Additionally, during the Harlem Renaissance many black writers and activists such as Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, Jessie Fauset, Josephine Baker, and James Baldwin, ex-patriates if you will, left the States for France specifically because it wasn’t racist and they felt free.

So do the French and any other country without a perverse history of racism towards African-Americans really have to be held to the same politically correct standard as the racist Americans who started the whole damn thing anyway? Are we limiting freedom of speech (blackface) because the Americans fucked up?

And if you agree that no country should endorse the use of blackface for art, humour, etc. is it because it is a badge of victimization for blacks or is it because no one should be imitating a different race for humor? A couple years ago when I was teaching a class on Television and Literary Genres which focused on humor, we watched a few Dave Chappelle episodes from “Chappelle’s Show.” We specifically watched the episodes in which he performed comedy in Whiteface.

When Dave is in whiteface he speaks in a stereotypically white way, is mildly racist, and is sexually repressed and impotent. After watching the episodes I asked my students if they were offended (they were all white) and they said no. And then I asked why is it that blackface is offensive and whiteface isn’t? They came up with the conclusion that it has to do with the history of victimization of blacks. When people are in blackface it connotes black inferiority, yet whiteface does not do the same because it would be historically inaccurate, because whiteness is seen as superior in America. I was even thinking about racial slurs, and even the one for whiteness, “cracker,” isn’t a term of inferiority per se because it alludes to a slavemaster who cracks the whip on the back of slave. So even the term itself is laden with dominance and power. Hmmmmm.

Why isn’t it offensive to make fun of a race, and you could even extend this to class or gender, when that race, class, or gender, in respect to its counterparts, is the most dominant, powerful, or not had a history of victimization? Thoughts?

you should get a copy of the new book by Prada documenting their 30 years in the business spread out on 76 wonderful pages.

With so many street style blogs out there it is hard to know which ones to follow, however if you are in the mood for a little different street style blog you should check out Planet Awesome Kid, a blog by Julia Samersova Adler documenting kids with cool style. 

Artofthetrench.com is a website created by Burburry to celebrate their iconic trenchcoat. They will be collaborating with different artists starting with Scott Shuman who has taken pictures of different people wearing their Burburry trenches. You may also submit a photo of yourself in your own trench and you might actually be featured on their webpage.

Despite the fact that the collaboration collection between Jimmy Choo and H&M havnt even hit the stores yet, pictures from the upcoming collaboration between Sonia Rykiel and H&M has already been leaked to the internet. The ads, who among others featuring Lara Stone, are photographed by Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø.

Louis Vuitton are always coming up with new ways to attract people to their iconic bags, next bag to be gracing the very recognizable LV logo is a first aid kit made to celebrate Red Cross´150th anniversary. The Bag will be auctioned off at a Louis Vuitton event and the proceeds of the sale will naturally go to Red Cross. 

Madonna may have lost her campaign with Louis Vuitton to Lara Stone, however instead she will be doing a campaign for Dolce&Gabbana womenswear and not menswear as first reported.

At 17 years old she has already fronted campaigns such as Hudson Jeans and Rimmel London, now Georgia May is following her mothers footsteps and fronting a campaign for Versace which will be photographed by renowned Italian photographer Mario Testino. 

Rent the Runway is a new concept/business idea (and a brilliant one might I add) that let you borrow expensive designer clothing that you cant normally afford. Talk about making high end designer merchandise accessible for the masses, its kinda like Netflix but with clothes.

That Nicole Ritchie has designed a boho chic collection most people know already but did you know she has a shoe collection coming as well? Also, if you happen to be knocked up and need some maternity clothed Richie style you should stop by A pea in the pod on Sutter street where her maternity line is sold. 

Panties that will magically make your cellulite’s go away? If we shall believe Scala Bio Promise your potential cellulite’s could be gone in less than 30 days, although you might not look too hot during those days though. 

Last but not least, Anna Wintour recommends reusing garments more than once. Thank you for that advice Anna.
