There’s a girl at my college (well two actually, but one worse than the other) who wears tops that are too small for her so you can see her enormous belly, and trousers that are too tight so you can see her massive love-handles and gargantuan arse hanging out. It just begs the question – “Do people really want to see that?” I know I don’t. Whatever you do on a weekend; get pissed, eat loads of food and not do any exercise afterwards; is fine with me. But the least you can do is dress properly so nobody else can see what a fucking state you are on Monday morning.
I guess that’s the kind of society we live in now though: Fat, ugly chavs with nothing better to do than flaunt their bodies to people regardless of whether they like them or not. They’re everywhere; shopping centres, supermarkets, cinemas, back alleys, parks, my basement tied to a chair…

Every time I see them I feel like shoving a sweater over their head, tossing them into some dungarees and then craming a board ruler down their throat.

This pendant was made from 8 gauge sterling silver wire, hammered square and soldered together. The entire piece was hammered for ultimate glimmer and texture. I have a fat cat.

I’m fairly convinced that she has some sort of black hole based digestive system. She’s always hungry, and she follows me about, meowing until she gets fed. I’m starting to think she only keeps me around because I have the necessary thumbs to open the cat food packets.

i’m not really one for the whole demonic symbolism, mark of the beast, number of the devil, etc, etc but this building has always struck me as creepy. if not creepy, at least very captivating.

Hiking along a desert trail away from houses and neighborhoods, you will encounter homes of a different kind. Unique to the Sonoran Desert are large colonies of Carnegiea Gigantea, also known as Saguaro Cactus. Unlike homes which can take 2 to 3 years to build, it takes Saguaro cactus about 150 years to reach maturity, with arms developing when the plants are 10 to 15 feet tall. The Gila Woodpeckers and Gilded Flickers don’t mind, they drill their holes into the flesh of the cactus and build their nests inside, long before their homes are completed. They share their living space with others, it is nature’s version of condo living!

The Saguaro cactus is a protected species in Arizona, you will need a permit and a moving company to have it removed and relocated to your property. It can be very heavy, our Saguaro weighed in at 1500 pounds and arrived on a large, flat bed truck. The movers dug the hole with a jackhammer. Because the roots are shallow, the hole does not need to be that deep, but desert soil tends to be rocky. The cactus was lowered from the truck into the freshly, dug hole. The expense of purchasing a large Saguaro and hiring a moving company can put a dent in your landscape budget.

It is possible to purchase small Saguaro at nurseries or gardens, but considering how slow they grow, it might be worth the expense to invest in larger ones. These beautiful, unique cactus will be yours to enjoy for years to come!

‘Tis the season when posting articles about paintings becomes difficult. Why, you ask? Well, right now I am working on two different pieces. One piece is the Palm Tree Sunset which I posted a video on over a month ago. This painting is coming along, but I haven’t posted anything recently because I have been working on the background and layering paint this whole time. At a certain point, that becomes un-interesting because it basically looks the same and there is not much to say about it….other then that I don’t think that these paints could dry ANY slower inbetween layers. Seriously. It takes them at LEAST a week and a half, if not longer. That makes it somewhat difficult to work on. None the less, I want the background to be full of rich, deep color which therefore requires me to wait and be patient . I’m doing my best….

In between layers of paint on the Palm Tree painting, I have been working on another piece….but I haven’t been posting that one either because it’s top secret. ‘Tis the season for secret paintings…AKA Christmas gifts. Will it be for you? I won’t tell!!! So anyhow, I can’t exactly post pictures of my top secret work to the internet…if you catch my drift. There will be plenty of posts afterwards though. But for now, I will just tell you a little about my recent struggles.

The piece I’m working on happens to be one that has many different blocks of color. While painting these blocks of color, I found that when the layers dry, they seem very streaky. So, in an attempt to make the piece look less “streakified”, I decided to try out some Linseed Oil. Linseed Oil is usually mixed with oil paints to increase the fluidity of the paint and to create a slower drying time so that you can re-work parts of your piece easier. One of the side effects of the oil is that it makes the paint appear more glossy when it dries. I’m thinkin’ that this could be an advantage for me with this piece that I am currently working on because it will help camouflage the streaks that might show up. The paint has yet to dry…so I can’t really give you a solid update as to whether or not it really worked.

As I was working with the oil the other day, I looked at the bottle to find that it says “Caution: Soaked Rags May Spontaneously Combust”. Apparently, if there are any rags soaked in Linseed Oil layin’ around, they can suddenly start your house on fire. Awesome. That makes me feel extremely uneasy. I guess that now I have to wash all of my painting rags and clothes whenever I paint using this oil. What a pain. I will admit, I’m probably taking the road labeled “too cautious”….but I just can’t sit at work knowing that there is a rag that might start on fire with no one’s assistance sitting over by my easel in my future home. That’s just unsettling!
