Curator and Co-ordinator of Digital Broadway, Matt Davenport has been asked to compile the creative content for the BBC Big Screen located at the meeting point, Williams Green Area, Glastonbury Festival 2009.

Veneer, features International artist’s work in order to explore the aesthetics of this promonant new method for display on the big screen within it’s everchanging contexts.  This is represented through many media and ways of representation from stp frame animation to short single take footage.

We are delighted to be part of such an important landmark cultural event, so here’s a quick sneak preview of some of the artists and film makers we’re working with.

Lasse Gjertsen är en norrman som bland annat gör youtube-filmer.

Ni har antagligen sett den där filmen om hur någon som inte kan spela instrument kan göra en hel låt med både trummor och piano. Den har över 10 miljoner visningar på tuben:

¿Recuerdan ustedes, todos ustedes a Lasse Gjertsen? Haciendo un post en relación con el anterior de mi colega Rodrigo Rangel, me gustaría poner en un alto peldaño a este joven noruego de dudosa procedencia (por aquello de unas ideas sobre humanas). Su trabajo podría definirse junto con una gran paciencia y destreza al momento de hacer una edición. Todo va cuadro por cuadro, montando dos pistas que se emparejan para crear una melodía dentro de un corto video muy bien realizado. Vale la pena que busquen más de su trabajo.

Lasse Gjertsen, un artiste norvégien amateur, avait été un des pionner des montages vidéo musicaux. Il semblait ne pas savoir jouer de la batterie ni même du piano mais avait réussi à l’aide de logiciels à faire un morceau vraiment sympa (voir plus bas). Beaucoup on suivi le pas, et aujourd’hui youtube fourmille de ce genre de montage musical, tantôt tendance humour (François Macré plus bas), et parfois de vrai virtuose. (Joe Penna plus bas encore)

Mais si je vous parle ce tout cela, c’est pour vous présenter Ophir “Kutiman” Kutiel, un vrai virtuose de Tel Aviv, qui s’est amusé à composer un album original, et uniquement à partir d‘extraits de musiques trouvés sur Youtube, remixés et réarrangés. Beaucoup de blogs en ont parlé ICI ou LA, mais si vous ne connaissez pas encore, précipitez-vous sur ces vidéos: un vrai régal pour les aficionados de funk et des montages musicaux réussis.

Tenía tiempo sin poner algo que cayera mas en el plano de “Curiosidad”, y ésta me pareció lo suficientemente genial como para colocarla. Tal vez ya es algo viejo, pero lo vi por primera vez hace no mucho, gracias a que Javier me pasó el video. En resumidas cuentas es un carajo de Noruega que arrancó dando unos golpes bastante terribles a la bateria y gracias a la edición del video logré hacer algo sumamente gracioso e interesante.

Dagens youtube video fra 2008 er Faen av Lasse Gjertsen. Han er kjent fra youtube videoer som Hyperactive som har utrolige 5,3 millioner views, og Lasse vs. Teknologi. Her i denne videoen går han gjennom bruken og historien av ordet faen.

Sabiendo de entrada que en el susodicho programa son unos cracks, me he permitido el lujo de crear otro post homenaje a este  gran programa.  Supongo que muchos recordaran a “Lasse Gjertsen” haciendo de caja de ritmos humana.

I truely recommend that you all watch this to it’s fullest extent.  It is a shortened version of Charlie Chaplin’s speech in The Great Dictator, with background music by the great Lasse Gjertsen. Also, just listening or reading the full text of it is something I greatly recommend.

Recently I have been at a lost at what to say here, and that’s completely my fault.  I would think of something great, but by the time I got to a computer, I would’ve forgotten it or just lost that train of thought.  Haha, I guess that might be a bad trait to have if I am ever going to be president, but not to bad.  It’s all there in my mind, it’s just buried beneigth other issues, most of which are more pressing than a Presidential campaign for the year 2028.

Anyways, this clip was introduced to me by my good friend Joe.  I plan on using some of the phrases in it to jump start some ideas and thoughts so I can actually get them down.

Once that is done, I will have to start asking for questions because I really don’t have much to write about currently since I don’t have much of a clue what will be the relevent.  Although, I guess I can try guessing and just talking about as much as possible in this blog.  But, as always, feel free to ask any questions of me.  I will answer truthfully.  Although I would like to stay away from questions about my personal life because that is exactly that and if you want to know, just feel free to ask me in a more private manner, preferably in person.

Graaaaaaaah! In case you can’t read that, the word is “faen.” Actually, it’s “FAEN!” Graaaaah! It’s Norway’s f-word, and Lasse Gjertsen has provided the world with a handy tutorial for using it. If you’re Finnish or Danish, you’re probably going to get offended:

I høst har vi i nye medier sammarbeidet med journalist- og film-og tv-klassen om å lage et portrett som skulle publiseres på nettet. Mens elevene fra de andre klassene tok ansvar for film, tekst og intervju, var det vi på nye medier som skulle sørge for at alt ble lagt ut på nett.

Vi ble ferdig med oppgaven i dag, etter mye fram og tilbake, se nettsiden her.

For all you Youtube heads out there.  He’s a 24 year old Norwegian animater, who has come up with a unique way of animating video and sound.  Lasse Gjertsen filmed himself playing different notes then edited them together to form a musical piece.

One for all the Daft Punk fans out there.  I wish I had the imagination to come up with this type of stuff.  My art school days where rather boring!!!  Although I did get to make a pop video once!

Første oppgaven i databasefaget info122 er levert inn og vi har startet på oppgaven i mediefager mevi153.

I år sammerbeider vi med to andre linjer på UiB, journalistene og folk på film og tv-porduksjon. Temat den gangen er ‘portrett/ dokumentar’. Jeg og gruppen min har fått tak i Lasse Gjertsen, også kalt youtube-Lasse, som sa seg villig til å stille opp ;) Oppgaven går ut på å lage en nettside, som skal inneholde film, bilder, tekst ++ Vi på Nye medier skal ta oss av selve nettsiden, mens journlistene og film/tv folkene har ansvar for å filme, intervjue og gjøre research. Vi gleder oss til å sette i gang, dette må jo bare bli bra
