Muito foi falado sobre a sensação sueca Deixa Ela Entrar, dirigido por Tomas Alfredson a partir do livro de John Ajvide Lindqvist. Tido como um dos melhores filmes do ano, e um dos melhores filmes sobre vampiro de todos os tempos, o terror sueco choca por seu realismo, apesar do tema. Não se trata, então, de um filme de vampiros. Deixa Ela Entrar vai além e consegue ser um dos melhores retratos de um fenômeno que está se tornando morbidamente comum hoje em dia, o nascimento de um sociopata.

Frágil e inseguro, o jovem Oskar, de 12 anos, causa empatia imediata ao espectador por seu drama. Filho de pais separados, sem encontrar seu lugar em sua casa ou na escola, o menino sente-se sempre deslocado, o que facilita que seus colegas se aproveitem da situação. Alvo constante de bullying, Oskar está constantemente sozinho, com seus pensamentos, e só consegue se encontrar com a presença de sua nova vizinha, Eli. Saindo raramente de casa, também sem amigos, a menina se torna aquele complemento que faltava na vida de Oskar, apesar de ela ter algumas idiossincrasias que logo mostram que a garota não é tão frágil como ele.

Eli não tem 12 anos como ele, mas é uma eterna criança. Uma vampira que vive de cidade em cidade tentando se esconder enquanto se alimenta de vitimas de assassinatos cometidos por seu acompanhante, um suposto pai que é tratado quase como um escravo por ela. A garota logo percebe o sofrimento de Oskar e tenta criar nele uma coragem de colocar em ação seus pensamentos. Apesar de frágil, as constantes humilhações que o garoto sofre já surtem efeito em sua mente, que é cada vez mais sórdida. Aos poucos, a improvável amizade entre os dois faz com que ele comece a tomar coragem para mostrar quem é verdadeiramente.

O filme foi bastante comparado a outros longas de vampiros, sendo inclusive eleito o melhor filme do gênero desde Nosferatu, de 1922. Há outros gêneros no entanto, que Deixa Ela Entrar se encaixaria, conseguindo um resultado ainda melhor, como o de filmes que procuram explicar os constantes massacres em instituições, ou mesmo o de obras que tentam mostrar a origem de um assassino. Mesmo o tão comentado – e já quase esquecido – Elefante, de Gus Van Sant, é superado de forma brilhante pelo longa sueco.

Do meio para o fim do filme, um dialogo entre Eli e seu suposto pai deixam a pista para o espectador sobre o que está acontecendo de verdade ali. Mesmo não havendo qualquer fantasia desde o início da projeção – fora o detalhe de que vampiros, aparentemente, não existem –, aquele pequeno diálogo mostra que a realidade é ainda mais dura do que vimos até então. Não importa que sejam apenas duas crianças tentando encontrar seu lugar e sentindo o que presenciam em um mundo cruel. E até mesmo estas belas e frágeis crianças também fazem parte desta sórdida sociedade.

Ute på gården möter han en blek lite underlig tjej, Eli (Lina Leandersson), som precis flyttat in i grannlägenheten tillsammans med en äldre man (Per Ragnar). I samma veva sker en rad brutala mord i trakterna där offren påträffas upphängda och tömda på blod.

Den här vampyrfilmen av Tomas Alfredson, baserad på en roman av John Ajvide Lindqvist, har väckt uppmärksamhet såväl nationellt som ute i världen och den amerikanska remaken är snart på vita duken. Jag gillar filmen skarpt och dess mörka stämning som genomsyrar hela filmen. Det är väldigt snyggt filmat och det känns verkligen som att man rest bak i tiden. Barnskådisarna är inte världens bästa men med god regi kommer de undan med äran definitivt i behåll. Handlingen är enkel men atmosfären och detaljrikedomen får filmen att växa. Stundtals riktigt obehagligt och stundtals väldigt sorgligt och finstämt. Inte minst kvarterskrogsgänget (Ika Nord, Peter Carlberg; Höök mfl) porträtteras rätt ömsint och även om det hela ska utspela sig i Blackeberg är lustigt nog det mesta inspelat uppe i Luleå.

On behalf of Overture Films, we are excited to announce that principal photography began today on LET ME IN, writer/director Matt Reeves’ adaptation of Let the Right One In, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Reeves (Cloverfield) and young stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) and Chloe Moretz ((500) Days of Summer) were among those on-set as filming commenced on the Hammer Films production at Albuquerque Studios. Filming will also take place in various other locations in New Mexico before returning to Albuquerque to wrap in January.

In the haunting and provocative LET ME IN, an alienated 12-year-old boy (Smit-McPhee) befriends a mysterious young newcomer (Moretz) in his small New Mexico town and discovers an unconventional path to adulthood. The film is based on the bestselling vampire novel, Lat den Ratte Komma In, by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, and is an English-language remake of the highly acclaimed Swedish film of the same name.

The filmmakers note that while the new film will pay respect to the original Swedish version, they intend to forge a unique identity for LET ME IN, placing it firmly in an American context.

“This project is very personal to Matt as it is to the many passionate fans of the original story,” said Simon Oakes, President and CEO of Hammer Films. “The brilliance of that story deserves to be seen by audiences on a wide scale and we are excited that the pieces are in place to make that a reality.”

Updates to the cast list include Elias Koteas (Shutter Island) as the policeman, Cara Buono (“The Sopranos”) as Owen’s mother and Sasha Barrese (The Hangover) as “Virginia.” It was previously announced that Smit-McPhee and Moretz would play the leads “Owen” and “Abby” respectively and Oscar®-nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) would play the guardian of “Abby”.

   Hammer Films acquired the remake rights to Let the Right One In at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival where the film took home the Founders Award® for Best Narrative Feature. The production is scheduled for a 2010 release in the U.S. by Overture Films. Exclusive Film Distribution is handling worldwide sales and distribution of the film.

Producing the film are Hammer’s Oakes, Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, along with Oscar®-winner Donna Gigliotti (Shakespeare in Love). Hammer’s Alex Brunner and Tobin Armbrust will executive produce along with John Ptak, Philip Elway and Fredrik Malmberg. Overture’s Robert Kessel, EVP Production & Acquisitions, will oversee production for the studio. Swedish producers John Nordling and Carl Molinder, who produced the original film, are also involved as producers on this remake.

I was intending on re-watching Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In for my horror movie marathon, but I didn’t. I reviewed this movie before, but I did not give credit where credit was due to superior film that blows Twilight out of the water. Now, that the remake, Let Me In is coming soon, I wanted to shower my praise on this film again.

John Ajvide Lindqvist adapted his book about a young twelve-year-old Swedish boy named Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) who is constantly bullied at school. He dreams of the day that he could strike back.

One night, young girl, Eli (Lina Leandersson) moves into the apartment next door to his with an older man, Håkan (Per Ragnar). The new neighbors are not what they seem be. You notice that at night, Hákan has a kit containing a butcher knife, funnel, old gas can, flashlight, jar of acid and a gas tank, killing people in a quiet place and draining their blood. You think that he was a mass murder, but he has his reasons.

Every night, Oskar talks to Eli at the jungle gym in the courtyard of their apartment complex. The peculiar Eli who never wears a coat in the dead of winter intrigues Oskar. He tries to get to know her, but she doesn’t open up.

What Oskar doesn’t know is that when Eli is hungry, her next meal is Jocke (Mikael Rahm). The viewer knows that she is a vampire, but nobody else knows except for Gösta, (Karl-Robert Lindgren), a spinster cat man who watched what Eli did.

Eli and Hákan’s lives begin to unravel when Eli and Oskar’s friendship continues to grow. They rely on each other to each other every thing. Eli teaches Oskar to stand up for himself against the bullies. In turn, Oskar teaches Eli how to be the kid that she once was.

I watched this the same time as Twilight. This is the far superior vampire movie, because it doesn’t have shimmering shinned vamps that scare creepily at you. This movie has so many layers to it that you don’t realize upon a second viewing. The stark snow covered landscape painted with red, vamps actually drinking blood, the subtle nuances of the relationship between Oskar, Eli and Hákan.

The remake, Let Me In, is not going to have the dark humor, the sexual awakenings of pre-pubescent children, child-to-children violence, the obsession with knives, blood, and the revelation about Eli. It won’t fly. It would just a sterilized version that will cater to a mainstream audience.

Judgment: This is not your tween vampire story. This one is actually good.

Déjame entrar es un filme sueco basado en la novela de John Ajvide Lindqvist y de titulo original Låt den rätte komma in. Esta pelicula trata sobre la historia de Oskar, un niño desadaptado que sufre el constante maltrato de sus compañeros de clase, vive con su madre (sus padres son divorciados) y tiene un morbo hacia los sucesos violentos. Una noche, helada totalmente, decide salir, y es ahí donde conoce a una niña llamada Eli, lo curioso es que esta niña esconde un gran secreto: Es vampiro.

He visto que la pelicula muchos la ponen como “Horror y Romance” pero la verdad, es que yo no vi algo que se le pareciera a un romance cercano, era más bien, como una amistad en la cual Oskar y Eli se cuidan mutuamente. A pesar que en la historia Eli es un vampiro, la pelicula no se centra en eso, y trata más de ver como sería en la vida real si realmente existiera eso, en pocas palabras, una historia diferente sobre vampiros.

Dato curioso: En la novela Eli es un niño

En México se estrenó algo limitado, algunas salas exhibieron la pelicula por 5 días. Prácticamente es uno de los mejores filmes de vampiros no comerciales (quizá haya sonado como una pedrada para Twilight) el humor ácido, lo superficial, los sentimientos, la calma y el suspenso se vive en este gran filme.

A Sunday where I should have been studying (more, as I’ve done a bit of studying but need to do a bit more, especially reading, before tomorrow Barry Dainton-lecture) but relaxing got in its way. (I know I’ve said this on my Twitter but not a lot of people follow me on Twitter so I can say it again; intelligent stuff like that bares repeating!)

The weekend has been all about taking it chill. Last night Camilla and I were out with friends. Having superb Indian cuisine; going to an ok, not more, movie. (And as a follow-up, tonight Camilla and me are going to watch ‘Låt den Rätte Komma In‘. Have not seen it and have high expectations.)

That’s about it. Glad Arsenal won yesterday, looking forward to Berlin on Tuesday.

Det är nog inte många svenska filmälskare som missat att “Låt den rätte komma in” håller på att förvandlas till Hollywoodfilm. “Let Me In” är den amerikanska titeln till denna remake och filmen har premiär i mars 2010 om allt går enligt planerna. I rollerna syns bland annat Chloe Moretz och Richard Jenkins. Handlingen förläggs till Colorado.

Regissören Matt Reeves har främst arbetat med TV-produktioner, bland annat med Homicide:Life on the street. Men allra mest har tiden gått åt till den populära Felicity. Till denna serie har han regisserat 5 avsnitt och skrivit hela 64 avsnitt, samt medverkat som executive producer för 24 avsnitt. Regissören har även gjort filmen Cloverfield (2008) om en monsterattack på USA.

Desde Entrevista com O Vampiro eu nunca mais vi um bom filme sobre vampiros. A idéia já se desgastou tanto que ou se acaba caindo na mitologia ou quer se inovar por completo, vide os crepúsculos e os anjos da noite que o mundo nos reserva. Mas é na cólera, no fim dos tempos, que olhamos no horizonte e enxergamos as coisas boas que ainda estão por vir. E que assim seja. Procurando por recomendação de filmes em fóruns e afins, descobri Deixe Ela Entrar (Let the Right One In em inglês, e originalmente do sueco Låt den rätte komma in – SKAVURSKA!).

A sinopse nos diz o seguinte “Uma frágil criança de nome Oskar de 12 anos sofre maus tratos pelos colegas do colégio. Embora não ofereça resistência, sonha com a vingança. Seu desejo de ter um amigo torna-se realidade quando conhece Eli, que acaba de chegar à escola. Mas esta mudança de Eli coincide com uma série de ataques misteriosos e mortes. Oskar descobre então que Eli é vampira, mas a amizade que sente por ela é mais forte que o medo”. Um filme digno de uma entediante sessão da tarde do Plim Plim não acha? NÃO! Surpresa, porque também não levei fé nenhuma quando peguei o filme para assistir, e foi ai que me surpreendi.

Tudo começa com a chegada de Eli a cidade, em um clima sem muita emoção. Nada muito diferente, e não seria mistério dizer que Oskar e Eli se conhecem, onde tudo começa. Após os dez primeiros minutos de filme a historia começa mostrar sua face real: Assassinato, sangue engarrafado, uma pacata cidade onde não se vê um policial (Achei engraçado, mas no filme todo eu não vi sequer uma viatura). Nesse clima de tensão, morte, e duas crianças, ainda sobra espaço para ternura e amor, um dos pontos fortes também, o sentimento que ali brotam são verdadeiros, em carne e sangue. O filme por si só também, em imagem, musica, e produção, é uma verdadeira obra de arte. Recomendo, mas esqueça a sinopse, provavelmente quem a escreveu não viu o filme inteiro, e se viu estava sonolento.

“Isso sim é adaptação, isso sim é romance vampírico, isso sim é Cinema”

Oskar tem 12 anos, pais divorciados, colegas maldosos e uma melancolica solidão. Eli tem 12 anos há algum tempo, sede de sangue e uma eterna solidão.

Em uma gelada noite de inverno na Estocolmo dos anos 70, menino e menina se conhecem, resistem um pouco e acabam se envolvendo. O sentimento que nutrem um pelo outro não é amor ou paixão, é algo que além de complexo é muito mais sincero e puro que qualquer sentimento pré-fabricado em Hollywood. Um se enxerga no outro.

Isso é o terror sueco Deixa Ela Entrar, que estreia com muito atraso nas salas do país. Digo “isso” porque a relação entre os dois é a base de toda a trama e o que move a mesma.

É um terror vampírico assim como um romance sútil e um drama pesado. E tudo ao mesmo tempo.

O roteiro escrito pelo autor do livro em que o filme se baseia, John Ajvide Lindqvist, exclui todo tipo de clichê, não deixando a densidade dar lugar a algo superficial (Alô, Crepúsculo?). O texto exigia pleno entendimento por parte do diretor, há muito a ser respeitado e traduzido com fidelidade para as telas. Felizmente, caiu nas mãos de Tomas Alfredson, diretor com uma filmografia relativamente extensa mas que nunca havia sido reconhecido antes. Dificil de entender porque. Sua direção eleva o filme a nível de excêlencia, projetando toda a genialidade contida no roteiro sem explicitar nada, conferindo um só tom aos distintos eventos que pipocam ao longo dos 110 minutos filmados. Quase que contemplativo, Alfredson busca algo genuíno e conta com a ajuda dos dois protagonistas mirins, Lina Leandersson e Kåre Hedebrant. Ambos dão um show, ainda que a menina roube muitas das cenas.

Algo recorrente no cinema nórdico é essa busca pela captura de algo real, cru e tangível, onde os atores são peça fundamental para tanto. Alfredson realiza essa captura com dois elementos que seriam agravantes para qualquer diretor: uma premissa fantástica e crianças no elenco.

Além disso, o diretor se mostra um esteta de mão cheia, um verdadeiro mestre da linguagem visual. Prova disso é o take da piscina no final do filme: inenarrável.

Assim, direção aliada as pretensões do roteiro, temos, como Oskar tem, apenas uma noção dos atos de Eli, jamais presenciando um ataque da menina como algo animalesco. É Alfredson pincelando Eli na tela da forma mais romantizada e sútil possível, a partir da visão repleta de encanto de Oskar. O que não significa que o menino não a aceite como realmente é. O que também não significa que não haja gore, sanguinolência e sequencias apavorantes, pelo contrário.

Deixa Ela Entrar é carregado de pontos tão sensíveis em sua estrutura que por vezes tem-se a impressão de que houve um deslize – quando na verdade os realizadores só estavam tecendo algo maior e reservando isso, com coragem, para o final. O ponto de intersecção da infância para a vida adulta de Oskar encontra na menina, congelada no tempo, um último afago. E é a partir desse evento que Alfredson faz da brilhante obra literária de Lindqvist, uma brilhante obra de Cinema. Isso sim é adaptação, isso sim é romance vampírico, isso sim é Cinema. O resto é no máximo malhação com caninos afiados.

I have no right reviewing a vampire film. And, no, I don’t think seeing Twilight increases my credibility within this particular genre. Still, in an attempt to broaden my cinematic palate, I undertook a viewing of Let the Right One In; the result: a slight positive tingling in the taste buds. In spite of its laboriously slow pace, I found the film absolutely fascinating. The use of darkness and light, while likely not new for a vampire film, struck me as being both beautiful and horrific. The breathtaking cinematography, while not uncommon for a Swedish film, took on a whole new power for me here when deep red blood struck the brilliant white snow.

Beyond the film’s mesmerizing visuals, the thing that kept me chomping away at the neck of this story was the emphatic and genuine performances from the movie’s young leads — Kare Hedebrant as Oskar and Lina Leandersson as Eli. Both appear as actors for the first time here and their purity and innocence works marvels in contrast with the dark acts they undertake in pursuit of companionship.

In the DVD extras, director Tomas Alfredson notes that his film could be interpreted as having either an encouraging or discouraging ending depending on what the viewer believes will become of the future relationship between the protagonists. With my happy-ending mentality, it won’t come as a surprise that I found the film somewhat uplifting in spite of the gore and horror I struggled to stomach throughout. I’m glad I let this film in, even if I think it too gruesome to recommend to most. If you love small stories or are weary of the same-ole, same-ole in your cinematic diet, you might also do well to bite into this vampire tale.

Antes de saber se era bom…

Estava navegando no site da Fábrica de Quadrinhos (www.fabricadequadrinhos.com.br) quando avistei uma notícia sobre “Let The Right One In” (título em inglês) e decidi averiguar. Não lembro muito bem o que estava escrito na matéria (mesmo porque faz tempo muito tempo que eu li), mas lembro que era coisa boa. O que resgato na memória é que a matéria dizia sobre um filme de vampiro um tanto quanto peculiar e muito bem feito. Tanto me interessei que adquirí o filme assim que possível.

Descobrindo que o filme era bom…

Esqueça Blade (cruzes), Buffy (aff) e Crepúsculo (pare o trem que eu quero descer). Este filme é bem mais profundo, tenso e misterioso do que um par de botas de couro e uma pose de assassino-justiceiro-salvador-do-mundo.

Oskar (interpretado por Kåre Hedebrant – o filme é sueco, não se assustem com os nomes de Vikings) é um garoto jovem de 12 anos, franzino e daqueles que tomam tapa na boca e soco na testa dos garotos mais velhos. Oskar está lá, vivendo na sua cidadezinha pacata, gostosa de passear a noite e comer um pastelzinho de queijo (não que ele faça isso. Eu faria) até que percebe que ganha novos vizinhos – Ebaaaaa :] – uma vampira que gosta de beber o sangue das pessoas – Ahhh :[ . Mas não se preocupem, ele acaba tendo uma quedinha por ela, e acho que vampiros não mastigam quem tem quedinha por eles.

Oskar então ganha uma nova amiguinha (a vampira Eli interpretada por Lina Leandersson) que também simpatiza por ele  (o que é bom hoje em dia, não? Ter um aliado vampiro). Essa amiga vem acompanhada de um senhor misterioso chamado Håkan (personagem de suma importância na película interpretado por Per Ragnar) extremamente devotado à garota.

A partir do momento que esta dupla (Eli e Håkan) está na cidade, coisas estranhas começam a acontecer. Corpos desaparecendo, gente morrendo, sangue na calçada (acontecimentos comuns na Zona Leste de São Paulo, mas não na Suécia, né?) e aí meu nego. Pernas, pra que te quero!

O que poderia fazer o filme não ser tão bom…

Nada meu! O filme é bom, vai por mim!

Boas observações finais…

»Leitores do meu coração. Esse filme é muito bom para quem gosta de histórias de vampiros, porém, sem aquela pataquada de caçadores com alho-poró, estaca de madeira e muito menos caixões. A história entre os protagonistas Oskar e Eli é bonita e ingênua ao passo de que Eli é um monstro sugador de sangue com a frieza de quem está na terra há muitos e muitos anos.

» O roteiro foi muito bem escrito, a criação da tensão no filme culminando no final que o faz refletir (nada sobre a vida, e sim, sobre o que você acompanhou no filme até então) fazem eu dizer “Que bom que eu vi” quando os créditos estão passando diante dos meus olhos e minha mente trabalha em digerir o que assisti e juntar as peças que o final do filme joga na minha carinha de réles mortal.

Yesterday I watched the Swedish movie Låt den rätte komma in. Probably the best vampire movie I’ve ever seen, for many reasons. But one fun detail I noticed, is that the character Conny’s brother Jimmy is Alexander DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange’s look-a-like. Jimmy’s real name is Rasmus Luthander, a young Swedish actor, and there’s no secret that the world famous Alex is portrayed by Malcolm McDowell. Now I kind of think about Rasmus as the young Malcolm, I mean damn, now you probably know how he looked like when he was young…

Amazing.

En pleno auge de las películas de vampiros, donde se les ha dotado de un aspecto más que atractivo para ese conjunto consumidor voraz que es la juventud llega todo tipo de producciones llevadas en muchos casos por la moda reinante. Los vampiros han dejado de ser unos seres solitarios y peligrosos en las noches, ahora visten con modelo sacados de cualquier linea de moda con nombre pomposo que pronto es copiados por los top manta de la vestimentas a la última.

En este caso entramos en el mundo casi infantil, problemas de adolescente que viven o malviven con problemas de adaptación en esos antros para formar delincuentes que se han convertido los institutos de los tiempos actuales. Jóvenes que vagan por pasillos, aulas y clases que no les son atractivas pero que buscan algo…. algo que quizás se haya perdido como es la amistad plena y dura. El caso del niño – joven que se ve acosado por compañeros de clase que aprovechando su condición débil y acomplejada descargan sobre el su furia de animales, de animales peligrosos como pueden ser los humanos sin leyes que limiten sus actos y que les diga que la edad no es motivo para considerarles como asesinos en potencia… así es nuestro mundo y así es el mundo del protagonista de la película que se adivina nórdica por su presentación y por sus actores.
Vemos quizás con más curiosidad por el qué pasará que por la calidad del film en cuestión, y poco a poco se nos va comiendo la atención sobretodo por el oscuro mirar de la chica que siempre aparece por la noche, en medio de la nieve, sin frío ni color y que se hace con la amistad de este chico hasta el punto de convertirle en un héroe valentón ante el acoso diario de los matones de siempre. La chica saca a la luz esa furia que todos llevamos dentro y que hay que libertar en determinados momentos para decir basta ya¡ a situaciones extremas.

El favor de la extraña chica engrandece la amistad del chico, y poco a poco se va metiendo en el mundo oscuro en la que se mueve ella impresionándose con la forma de alimentarse que tiene este ser etéreo que vaga en la noche; la imagen de la chica chupando la sangre caída sobre la nieve, hace que el chico saque sus conclusiones, terribles conclusiones que acepta porque la amistad es considerada primer positivo para su hermanamiento.
Pero siempre hay un pero en cualquier relación: esta amistad por parte del chico limpia y bella viene acompañada del hecho de convertirse en siervo de las ansias sangrientas de la chica que una vez que pierde al mortal que trae las víctimas para alimentación de su ama; le convierte en su más acérrimo ayudante y cómplice.

El ambiente creado con el frío y la nieve se nos hace novedoso en este tipo de películas pues antes creíamos que la nieve y el agua eran enemigos mortales para el vampiro; aquí se convierte en su decorado habitual y le da ese gris tan monótono a la fotografía. La presentación nos hace sospechar su procedencia nórdica que aún conserva la costumbre de comenzar con todo el dossier artístico y técnico de la película. Los actores desconocidos aquí se muestran tal como conocemos a estos habitantes del norte: serios, poco impresionables y poco dados a las expresiones corporales. La dirección se hace correcta para este cinta singular que todavía no hemos sabido adjetivar.
Merece la pena verla simplemente por el hecho de su singular visión del tema de moda actual. Aquí el vampirismo se hace casi normal en la noche fría y nevada y los jóvenes actores cumplen su misión con una calificación de notable…..

Som jag skrev tidigare så köpte jag Låt den rätte komma in på Siam Paragon i helgen. Let the right one in, originalfilm i fin dvd-butik. Svenskt eller thailändskt tal, subtitles på thai. Ljudvalet Engelska var överstuket med tushpenna.

I söndags var det dags att avnjuta denna omtalade film för första gången. Lyckats missa den varje gång den visats på någon av de mer obskyra biograferna här i byn.

Play. Thailändskt tal, jag byter till svenska. Ojsan nu pratar dom engelska, jag byter igen. Thailändska igen. Det fanns bara dessa två val. Svensk film dubbad hur jag än vrider och vänder (trycker) på det.

Irriterande minst sagt. Visst den kostade bara 219 baht, men nu var man ju inställd på att se den. Här försöker man vara en hederlig filmtittare, stödja svensk film och allt det där. Att den var så billig är ingen ursäkt, det får Sandrew Metronome ta upp med Happy Home Entertainment.  Jag kunde ha köpt den för 100 baht nere på gatan, med gammal hederlig svenska i lurarna.

Såg den i alla fall samma kväll på svenska med engelska subtitles. Själv är bäste dräng.

Innan jag åkte från Katrineholm passade jag på att Luncha med min gamla klasskompis Emelie Söder… haha jag använder inte ens uttrycket Luncha men nu när man är nära Stockholm så får man falla för det!

Käkade på ett Thaiställe i Katrineholm, ganska nytt, ganska trevligt!Sjukt roligt att träffa Emelie igen, det var hon som tog mig till mitt allra första möte med pingstkyrkans kristna skolgrupp!

Emelie hade förändrats skitmycket men vem vet det kanske jag också har!

I have a fondness for a certain type of films. Usually they have a melancholic veil over them, that haunts me and makes me get quite obsessed. Often there is a female character that somehow enthralls me, and that I identify myself with on a certain level.

The Virgin suicides was a true obsession for me. There was a period when I could watch it every day. The feeling I got when I watched it, used to linger on, and somehow I needed it. I wanted every day to have that faded colouring, that 1970´s patina and the sun gleaming through leaf-covered branches while the soundtrack accompanied me. The girls felt like friends that I connected to, and the boys obsession with them was something I could identify with. Marie Antoinette on the other hand, was not love at first sight, not in the same way as The Viring suicides. I liked it, but the haunting didn´t come at once. When it came, it hit hard though. Marie Antoinette´s fate moved me, while Kirstens expressions told me everything I needed to know. My days were filled with New Order, peonies and pastel colours.

I read the book, Låt den rätte komma in (Let the right one in) and really loved it, so when the movie came I had to see it. Afterwards, it haunted me for days. The atmosphere lingered, while my mind was filled with thoughts of vampires and memories of growing up in Sweden in the 1980´s. I almost wished that I was a vampire, just like the fantasies I had as  a child. Almost Famous is the odd one in the group. It isn´t really gloomy or melancholic, so it doesn´t fit into the the same category. It does have a nostalgic feel, like an old memory from one´s childhood, and so does The Virgin suicides. Although, Almost Famous is more like those memories you treasure, memories of happy times;  ice-cream, strawberries, swimming in the lake at summer, and staying up all night talking about boys. It gives the same warm feeling in the belly, and the same comfort. Since it is memories I never had, and things I never experienced, it makes me wish otherwise. For days after watching it, the 1970´s and rock & roll is all I care of. I dream of being in William´s situation, travelling with the band, living in hotel rooms all while the perfect soundtrack is playing in the background.

This is what I love about films, that you can experience a whole new world, and that is available to all. It awakens the imagination, and let´s one dream freely. I have always been a dreamer, ever since I was a child, and I still am. Maybe a bit too much, because reality can be somewhat disapointing, which is why I keep on dreaming. Ofcourse, when you´re almost 30 years old like I am, that can seem a bit strange to people. The world of daydreams and imagination is only for children, it seems. This quote from the film “Amélie” (Le fabuleux destin d´Amélie Poulain): ” Les temps sont durs pour les rêveurs” (These are hard times for dreamers), is quite accurate, and one of my favourite. A dreamer is often misunderstood, and often perceived in the wrong way. I used to care, but I don´t anymore. One´s thoughts are the only thing that is truelly private, so therefore, if dreaming is what makes someone happy, it´s no one elses business.
