Hey brothaz. It has been a while since I wrote for latenightshow. I am currently stationed in California, USA and after being here a few months I have discovered how bad taste in music most Americans have. I figured I have to do something about it.

I summed up some of the tracks that has about a hundred plays in my itunes and uploaded them. Also these tracks are not neccessarily house. This is no longer a blog whos soul purpose is to distribute music from only one genre. From here on everything I like can wind up here.

Wanda Sykes

There is a new kid on the Late Night Show circuit and she has turn it upside down and put life into the genre.  I wish it was not only on on Saturday nights. It is the Wanda Sykes Show.

Yes, there is an Open Bar on the set.  Yes there is a super size Vanna White type Drag Queen assistant named Portia.  Yes, she has  prolific sidekick, Keith Robinson.  However, it is the no holds bar comedic style that is signature Wanda that makes this show work and makes it so fresh. It is also a very liberal  oasis on a network called Fox.

Sykes offers a catharsis of sorts for a nation wearied by the barrage of news from economic turmoil to foreign policy debates.  Her humor is biting and intelligent.  I found myself just laughing and enjoying the Wanda Sykes ride .  I mean I have not enjoyed a late night show like this one for a long time.

We need her voice and I hope she is around for a long time.

Last night, American’s premier late night talk show host blurted out a remarkable story that the live audience didn’t realize was true……..That someone had tried to blackmail him for things that he did do..…….Namely, have affairs with several of his co-workers…….

The person wanted  $2 million to keep that information quiet……….

Letterman of course had to swallow hard and talk to somebody..then go to authorities who went and collared up a fellow employee of CBS that worked for the “48 Hours ‘ show……

That sad thing is that Letterman just married  his longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March, and they have a little son.

And so, another rich and powerful ‘ober\’ male admits in public that he couldn’t keep his ‘Johnson’ in his pants……..The list seems endless…..And continues to grow…..

Funny!!!

I will never get over seeing Paul McCartney on television, it’s just not going to happen.  Every appearance he makes has me staring wide-eyed and slack-jawed at my screen in an awed stupor while my inner teen squeals with joy.  Last night’s Late Show with David Letterman was no exception.

It was McCartney’s triumphant return to the theater where America’s love affair with four charismatic young lads from Liverpool began in February 1964.  Only this time, Paul came alone and there was no awkward introduction from Ed Sullivan (unless you count Paul Schaffer’s impression of Sullivan, which was pretty spot on).

Macca looked as dapper as ever and it warmed my heart to see that no matter how old he gets he’s still that cheeky kid from Liverpool.  When Letterman complained to Paul that this was the first time he’s ever come on the show, McCartney quipped, “I don’t like the show.”  Classic.

The interview portion was both funny and touching.  Letterman couldn’t seem to get over the subject of his interview, not that I blame him, and at one point tried to cut to a commercial break far too soon.  It was rather endearing to see the seasoned host a bit flustered in the presence of a Beatle.

They talked about the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, the ‘Paul is dead’ hoax, and his relationship with Michael Jackson.  Macca handled the questions about Jackson with grace, saying “He was a lovely man, massively talented and we miss him.”

Finally the portion of the show that I’d practically been holding my breath for arrived.  Paul climbed out a building window onto the top of the marquee where his band waited, instruments in hand.  Although, I think it would have been better if he had gone out a fire escape in ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ fashion.  McCartney then delivered a rousing performance of ‘Get Back to the massive crowd that had gathered below to witness a master at work.  It still amazes me that after all these years his voice is still in such good condition.

I had foolishly thought that there would only be one song performed as per usual on a late night show- but then I remembered that Paul McCartney is not your usual guest.  McCartney then launched into ‘Sing the Changes’ a track off his Fireman album ‘Electric Arguments’.  An uplifting song, McCartney performed it flawlessly and it was fantastic to witness it live for the first time.

Off camera, the rest of us learned today that McCartney (showman that he is) treated the NYC crowd to a few more songs.  ‘Coming Up’, ‘Band on the Run’, ‘Let Me Roll It’, ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Back in the USSR’ made up the rest of the short set, now available to watch on cbs.com.  If this mini-concert is any indication of what we can expect on McCartney’s upcoming US tour then, no ‘maybes’ involved, prepare to be amazed.

My girlfriend was up for a few days to enjoy all that is Vermont including a concert by the Roots as part of the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Celebration on Sunday evening. The concert was great and the weather held out perfectly. The group, who happens to be the house band for the Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon, put on  a spectacular show inclusive of originals and classic covers with their own funky twist. To top it off, I got to enjoy it all with my favorite person in the world.

Sadly, she has to go back to New York for work. I guess I’m back to the writing and recording…

Aga miks kirjutada sellest sarjast? Aastaid tagasi, kui Soome 4 meie kaablist veel sisse jooksis, oli Conan väga oodatud külaline ekraanile ja nüüd avastasin, et ta ikka veel tegutseb. Otsustasin uusima, 23. juuni osa ära vaadata (Lisa Kudrow peakülalisena) ja olen sunnitud nentima, et kõik on ülesehituselt suht sama, nalja saab kuidagi vähem, aga mis peamine – kuidagi tuimaks on muutunud. Ei ole ka erinevaid liine sees (ei tea kas tootjatel napib raha?). Eks ole seda kordust tema repertuaaris varemgi korduvalt ette tulnud, aga lõpuks peab ikka väga palju aega ja tahtmist olema, et seda iga nädal vaadata, kui olukord pole 5 aastaga tema kasuks muutunud. Õnneks pole muret, me ei näegi teda enam oma kanalitel. Igaks juhuks vaatan ehk mõne uuema osa veel, võibolla olen liiga karm. Conan on siiski sümpaatne koomik ja sarjast pärit kogumik “The Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” on tänaseks klassika vääriline nähtus.

Late last night I was watching Obama’s press conference on here and I couldn’t believe what an incredible change has taken place in the United States. As an European, in the last nine years I used to rant almost every day about the americans, about how silly of them to go with Bush Jr. blah blah and now I’m trying hard to figures out ways to make a joke about the President of the United States. And trust me I’m following all the late night shows(Letterman, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmell, Fergusson) whenever I can(which means that I depend on youtube.com’s users to upload the shows, and thank Darwin! a lot of them keep doing a good job) and I found that even for Jon Stewart(one of the smartest guy on television; any television) it is difficult to observe obvious faults in Obama’s conduct,  speeches or public appearances etcaetera

How sad! Since January I can’t take my daily portion of fun with the White House’s resident.

I’m almost afraid that something is wrong with my perceptions. I mean, how can I be so impressed watching an ordinary press conference? I know that is ridiculous and I don’t want to make a comparison by any means, but I couldn’t help but remembering JFK’s speech about sending a man on the moon.

And only few weeks ago there the Cairo speech. Come on, it’s too much! I can’t bear it anymore!

Well, I guess that you can smell envy in my words. And the envy is there.

yes yes yes. you read right. zack morris was on the late night show with jimmy fallon. literally. mark paul gosselaar came onto the show to promote his show, raising the bar, but came on as zack morris. and wow. he really looks like he hasn’t aged one bit. i’m sure they spray tanned him and whatnot but he looks the same. and if you’re a big saved by the bell fan like i am, you’ll appreciate all the classic references in the clip.

and apparently, jimmy fallon is trying to host a saved by the bell reunion on his show. and so far, it looks like he’s got a lot of people. i’m crossing my fingers!

Jay Leno passes his “Tonight Show” baton to Conan O’Brien this week, and we couldn’t be happier. We’ll miss Letterman (sorry, Dave — if we’re forced to choose, we pick Conan) and we won’t miss Leno (because he’s just moving to earlier time slot… if we decide to watch). And so in anticipation of Conan’s first show, we take a look at some of our favorite things about Conan and a few surprising facts we didn’t know.

He Stole from a Superhero

Back in 1984, when Conan was a student at Harvard and president of the Harvard Lampoon, Burt Ward (yes, the TV “Batman’s” Robin) came to the school to give a lecture, cape in hand. He arrived on campus to be greeted by “security guards” sent to “safeguard the costume.” But Burt realized he’d been taken for a ride when those same security guards burst into the middle of his speech, dimmed the lights, and stole the costume. Conan (the heist’s ringleader) held hostage negotiations with the actor the following day, and the Boy Wonder’s gear was returned unharmed.

He Worked Week to Week at First

Making a virtual unknown the host of his own late-night talk show was a big risk for NBC. Sure, Conan was funny and had written for “Saturday Night Live” and “The Simpsons,” but he wasn’t really a stand-up and hadn’t spent a lot of time in front of the camera (aside from an occasional “SNL” walk). What were they thinking? They were thinking, “Lorne Michaels recommended him, and that dude knows talent.” They were also thinking, “Let’s make him renew his contract every few weeks, instead of years. That way, if he stinks we can fire him whenever we want.” Looks like that gamble paid off.

He Took Tap as a Kid

When Conan was in grade school, he decided he wanted to be an entertainer. He approached his parents and told them that he was going to be in show business, so he needed to learn how to tap dance. After a considerable amount of begging, they signed him up with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson protégé Stanley Brown, who taught him how to tap. Wonder if he was the one who helped hone Conan’s “string dance.”

He Dated a “Friend”

Back before either were stars, struggling comedians Conan O’Brien and Lisa Kudrow were an item. They split up when O’Brien left L.A. for New York to begin hosting “Late Night.” It’s rumored that he pined for Kudrow for two years until she married Michel Stern in 1995. Conan met his wife, Liza, in 2000, but he and Kudrow are still “Friends.” Sorry, it was begging to be said.

He Was in a Music Video

In 2005 Conan did a cameo in The White Stripes’ “The Denial Twist” as part of an ongoing friendship and mutual admiration society. They have been on his show numerous times since he met them in a bowling alley in the late ’90s. And in a final farewell, Jack and Meg, who hadn’t played live together in almost two years, reunited on Conan’s last “Late Night” to perform “We’re Going to Be Friends.”

Letterman Supported Him

A week after he was announced as David Letterman’s “Late Night” replacement, Conan appeared on Dave’s show and said people were stopping him on the street and saying, “Hey, look! It’s that guy who doesn’t deserve a show.” Well, Dave thought he did, and he showed his support all the way. Letterman was a guest on one of Conan’s first nights, and Conan appeared on the “Late Show” several times. And back in the days when people didn’t get Conan’s nervous energy, Dave would send over his standby audience to help fill the younger host’s studio. Don’t think they’ll have that problem at “The Tonight Show.”

He Gave Us Triumph

Without Conan, we wouldn’t have one of our favorite puppets of all time. No, not Kermit. Not Grover. Not Lambchop. We’re talking about Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog, Robert Smigel’s genius creation that debuted on Conan’s show in 1997. Triumph has insulted the biggest names in entertainment, from Jennifer Lopez to Eminem to every “Star Wars” fanatic that ever lived. If you haven’t seen him talking to “Attack of the Clones” fans, do yourself a favor and check this out. It’s a very funny video…for us to poop on! We keed, we keed.

Conan and the Finnish President: Separated at Birth

Although Conan has no Finnish ancestors, he bears a striking resemblance to Finland’s first female President, Tarja Halonen (also the world’s only red-haired leader). Back in 2005, when Conan learned his show had high ratings in Finland, he attributed this phenomenon to the fact that he looked like Halonen. So what if she was a woman? Conan even supported her in her ‘06 re-election campaign, because he enjoyed looking like a world leader. Halonen did win reelection, and we’d like to think Conan had something to do with it, in that Oprah/Obama kind of way.

He Sold His Taurus to Brad Pitt

Conan has been talking about his sweet ride, a green 1992 Ford Taurus SHO, on his show for years, including the time Brad Pitt made him dress in a “Troy” costume and then took the green machine for a spin. He’s tried several times to sell the classic car (once at a high-end auction) to no avail, but finally, on one of his last shows, Pitt came back and bought the car. We’re guessing that was just a skit, but now that Conan’s moving to L.A., he might need a new set of wheels. We hear Ford’s bringing the Taurus back in 2010. Maybe they can give him one in exchange for promotional consideration on “The Tonight Show.” After all, Leno owns more than 185 vehicles. Conan had better get crackin’ if he wants to keep up.

17 years is a long span of time, hence an era, for someone to be on TV 5 nights a week. Jay Leno finally decided to step down, 1.5 hour earlier, to prime time. As for the guest on his last late night show, who else is better than his own successor, Conan O’Brien. A lot of people have been debating whether or not this is a smart move – for both NBC and Jay. But as far as I’m concerned, I don’t have any objection about it. FOX and CW have taken their 10 pm prime time slot for News, why can’t NBC use their 10 pm prime time for talk show?

Anyways, Yahoo! TV has writen a page for the most memorable moments of the show. While we wait until September, don’t forget to watch Conan’s first week on Tonight Show
