The new company will be led by Richard Gonzalez, who flew the pharmaceutical company Abbott, with most of his team in this group. As a result, there is little of reinvention of society, as a business and the restructuring of investment. More importantly, is a new way of financial results and follow-up. And, while other (BMS, Covidien, Allergan, etc.) have done the same thing, they are not to the size of 17.4 million $ Abbvie of revenue.

More than 15,000 people are arriving in Boston for the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO International) convention. ASCO and other disease category conventions may be more important for new products. And JPMorgan surely draws more CEO’s. But, BIO is still relevant, mostly due to its size, global scale and international presence.

Now the WSJ weighs with this editorial which analyzes the largest contest of image U.S. against Israel, in Europe and Asia as the country leader in the life sciences industry.  Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has recently added a provision to eliminate the tax in the renewal of the FDA Act user fee, but in the end by withdrew the amendment.  Will now have a new Act of Congress or anger the invalidation by the Court to remain free.  It is expected that the Congress considered the legislation repealed the tax device soon, and a Bill in the House has 238 sponsors and the support of a Committee of the House.  It is expected the supreme Court pronounced in June during previous hearings on the health legislation.

The movement for the repeal of the tax is certainly win.  The question is whether the powers of influence in Washington DC can cover all their bases and drive a call to action in the next six months.

GlaxoSmithKline is considering a campaign to completely replace the Council of science of the human genome with their candidates.  The tender for GSK technically expires tomorrow.  However, this campaign would simply extend $2.6 b offer.

Very few of these recent agreements have been friendly.  Thus, at the end, where it will be this range in the history of Roche-Genentech and Roche-Illumina Sanofi-Genzyme?   Too early to tell…

The brotherhood of San Diego life sciences is winning and losing at the same time.  With Illumina and being strongly courted as potential acquisition targets, Amylin is San Diego about to lose two of their contractors more success in the life sciences?

Last week, Roche increased its offer of money for the company sequencing gene Illumina 15% to more than 6 million to shareholders ahead of its annual meeting next month.  The pharmaceutical giant offers of $51 per share, compared with its initial offer of $44.50.  Illumina has stated that it will consider the offer.

Bristol-Myers Squibb offered to purchase Amylin Pharmaceuticals by $ 3.5 million, said sources, but it rejected the unsolicited offer. Analysts said Amylin, which manufactures drugs of diabetes Byetta and Bydureon, could attract a greater compromise of AstraZeneca or another business seeking to increase its portfolio.  Carl Icahn today expressed his public displeasure with the Board of Amylin, in a letter that you just have to read to believe.  Icahn, who holds a 10% stake in Amylin has a history of forcing the action in the industry of Mylan, Biogen Idec, Genzyme, Boston Scientific, biological sciences previously.

Update (4/10) – Icahn raised the bet against Amylin filing action alleging the company managed the BMS offer.   Specifically, Icahn said that the company has the responsibility to transmit a BMS interest prior to the appointment of new members of the Council.  Amylin rejects the allegation “without merit”.  If Biogen Idec is a precedent, it will be a messy confrontation.

It happens all the time. A CEO is facing two or more positions a succession plan against each other with a winner and the other is likely to leave the company CEO competing offers.

There was a long and Karadzic succession saga after the retirement of Jack Welch of GE. The race is between James McNerny, Bob Nardelli and Jeff Immelt, all internal candidates from within the ranks of GE. Immelt has finally prevailed and is always the position of President and CEO. But Bob Nardelli left to become CEO of Home Depot and Chrysler while McNerney became CEO of 3 m and Boeing. Even in our industry, the trend is common. Chris Viehbacher has lost the race to succeed JP Garnier at Glaxosmithkline Andrew Witty. Witty is President & CEO of GSK. Viehbacher left to run Sanofi.

Thus, after losing the race to succeed Bill Weldon as CEO of Johnson & Johnson 60 days ago, Sheri McCoy resigned to become CEO of Avon.

McCoy as its new Chief Executive took advantage of vendor products cosmetics fighting Monday. The announcement put an end to a four-month search to replace embattled CEO Andrea Jung, who came under fire for not braking the company refuses and conclude an investigation into corruption.

The movement ends a year 30 to McCoy in J J & and continues the promotion of Alex Gorsky Weldon to succeed. Hollywood has been used as a source of inspiration, more of the life sciences and industry, over and over again in recent years.

The society of marketing behind the new film Three Stooges are creative, with a parody of all pharmacists in TV ads as a theme of their latest commercial. Stoogesta is apparently a chronic disease, which affects more than “three to six million people”.

Today, John Lechleiter, CEO of Lilly, became President of PhRMA, commercial group leader in the pharmaceutical industry.  He succeeds Chris Viehbacker of Sanofi in the role, rotated regularly between the great CEO on Big Pharma.  In his appointment, Lechleiter has been a media frenzy in the last day or two, print them out and television.  Among his various comments:

Lilly cannot reproduce the strategy of the other (re: Pfizer) cost – cut its way to the cliff of patent.  Instead, its success will depend on a solid pipeline of new drugs to improve revenues.

The last destination is Illumina, which was frustrating stubborn in their attempts to thwart the Roche bid decision-making.  Roche has applied a strong initial offer.  He then tried with shareholders, the pleadings.  Then extended the offer of 15% of $51 per share.  Now you have strong April 18 meeting of shareholders.
