The fourth “Spider-Man” film is yet to kick off its production, but Sony Pictures Entertainment has moved on with “Spider-Man 5″ and “Spider-Man 6″ by hiring screenwriter James Vanderbilt. According to Variety, the studio “has quietly engaged” the writer for the original “Spider-Man 4″ screenplay to start work on the next two films for the web-slinging superhero.

Words are, Vanderbilt is being brought back because the executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios like his ideas. The scribe for “Zodiac” is expected to pen an interconnected storyline that will extend from the fifth movie into the sixth with a possibility of back-to-back shooting, like what had been planned for the fourth and fifth films before the idea was scrapped.

The writer of the upcoming “The Losers” was originally hired by Sony to write the screenplay for the fourth film. However, when the first three “Spider-Man” director Sam Raimi came into the fourth project and allegedly didn’t embrace all of Vanderbilt’s ideas, “Rabbit Hole” playwright David Lindsay-Abaire was brought in to re-write Vanderbilt’s script.

It is still unclear whether Raimi and lead actor Tobey Maguire will be involved in the fifth and sixth films once again. There is speculation that if the key people of the “Spider-Man” franchise do not return, Vanderbilt’s script would be the blueprint for a franchise reboot.

As for “Spider-Man 4″, it is being prepped to begin production early 2010. While this fourth installment of the series has secured Raimi and Maguire, the questions circulating the potential villains are yet to meet a satisfying answer. Lindsay-Abaire’s script is being re-written by Gary Ross. Produced by Avi Arad, Grant Curtis and Laura Ziskin, the superhero movie will be opened in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2011.

Gary Ross has been brought on board to do a rewrite on Columbia’s “Spider-Man 4.”
Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad.
Ross now joins James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac”) and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire on the list of high-profile writers who have been working on the project.
The move also puts Ross back to work with Maguire, with whom he worked on his directorial vehicles “Pleasantville” and “Seabiscuit.” The two were also working on “Tokyo Suckerpunch,” a drama set up at Columbia; that project is now on hold as Ross tackles another writing project, Columbia’s Lance Armstrong biopic.

Per la prima volta Sam Raimi parla ufficialmente di Spider-Man 4 e 5: il regista sta aspettando di leggere la sceneggiatura di James Vanderbilt e pensa che le riprese inizieranno nel marzo 2010…

Sam Raimi ha parlato, per la prima volta, di Spider-Man 4 e 5 a MTV. Per prima cosa è toccato a Kirsten Dunst: il regista ha espresso il desiderio di lavorare ancora con lei – nonostante sembrasse già confermata la sua presenza nel cast. “Kirsten… mi piacerebbe lavorare ancora con lei. Spero che il suo ruolo venga inserito nel film. Non riuscirei a immaginare di fare uno Spider-Man senza di lei, e penso che sia una parte importante di questi film.”

A Raimi piacerebbe lavorare ancora anche con James Franco, ma questa cosa sarà più difficile da fare: “Mipiacerebbe lavorare ancora con James Franco. Ma il suo personaggio è morto, stessa cosa per Zio Ben.

Fortunatamente siamo riusciti a riportare brevemente negli altri film tutti i personaggi morti [come Willem Dafoe o Cliff Robertson appunto]. Non riesco ad abbandonarli, ogni film diventa più difficile.”

Poi il regista entra nello specifico dei due nuovi film, che dovrebbe girare in contemporanea:

Sono molto eccitato per Spider-Man, e spero di girarlo. Non ho ancora uno script tra le mani, ma le riprese inizieranno probabilmente entro marzo 2010, penso. Sembra molto in là nel tempo, ma ci serve uno script prima, e poi seguirà un lungo periodo di pre-produzione. [Riguardo a girare i due film insieme] Abbiamo parlato di questo. Sarà una decisione della produttrice Amy Pascal. Non penso sia stato ancora deciso, e sarà lei a farlo. Io stesso sono molto curioso riguardo a questa opportunità. Sarebbe un vero test di resistenza, solo Peter Jackson sa cosa significa. Se io, Tobey e i produttori approviamo la storia divisa in due film, e Amy decide di farli, allora si faranno. Il problema è che deve ancora essere scritto tutto.

Per quanto riguarda la storyline di Curt Connors come Lizard, Raimi ha detto di essere convinto che debba essere raccontata:

Dylan Baker è un grande attore, e penso che un giorno la storia di Lizard verrà detta. Non so se sarà in questo film o in quale altro, non lo so proprio. Spero di lavorare con Dylan in questo film, ma non so ancora chi sarà il villain.

Cosa apprendiamo da questa intervista? Intanto che Raimi è probabilmente in trattative per dirigere il film – o meglio, probabilmente le trattative sono concluse ma deciderà solo quando avrà tra le mani lo script. Per quanto riguarda il cast, è evidente che Tobey Maguire e Kirsten Dunst sono stati opzionati, ma senza script Raimi non può sapere se Mary Jane ci sarà o meno: dipende quindi tutto dal lavoro di James Vanderbilt, che se la sta prendendo un po’ comoda.

Con le riprese fissate ipoteticamente a marzo 2010, è evidente che il primo dei due film (se verranno girati assieme) non uscirà prima del 2012, e non nel 2011 come sperava Laura Ziskin. Insomma, c’è tempo…

Fans of the Spider-Man film franchise were surprised to hear producer Laura Ziskin announce a fourth film was planned for May 2011, especially since director Sam Raimi hasn’t confirmed his involvement in the film (and neither has Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst), and there hasn’t been a confirmed script. Well, looks as if there may be a treatment written by James Vanderbilt, spanning two films.

Cinematical broke this little bit here, but if you don’t want to follow the link, I can elaborate, and besides, I’m about to provide my personal touch.

Apparently, Vanderbilt, of Zodiac fame, has written a story arc encompassing two films. Sony is trying to negotiate a deal where they can get the arc and shoot it back-to-back.

No word on what exactly is in Vanderbilt’s arc, but my guess, like everyone elses, is Lizard and Carnage. I’ve heard rumors Black Cat may be in the next one, which would bother me somewhat after what they did with Gwen Stacey in the last film. Didn’t Pete learn his lesson about infidelity after macking it with her?

If she is in it, however, my guess would be that Black Cat would try to steal the symbiote from Conner’s lab, a la The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series. Connors better turn into the lizard soon, considering they’ve been hinting at it for forever. And, as for Carnage, who cares as long as he’s an actual serial killer, and they don’t fudge him like they did Venom.

Now, I can hear some of you saying “Waitaminute, if Raimi isn’t writing this, is he really going to want to be involved?” You know, I don’t think Raimi wants to even if he is writing the script. He really screwed the pooch after Spider-Man 2, and he’s been sitting on his thumbs since.

“Tobey and Kirsten don’t want to do movies without him” you say, Captain Obvious? Recast, for the love of God. Tobey Maguire couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. His portrayal of Peter Parker has been a wooden stump, and Kirsten Dunst has provided little but eye candy, and, let’s face it, has completely missed everything about the character that makes her awesome. It’s time for a new beginning in the Spider-Man film franchise. I’m actually excited for once.

La productora Laura Ziskin ha anunciado a través de Los Angeles Times que Spider-Man 4 se llevará finalmente a cabo con Mayo de 2.011 como fecha de estreno.

Aunque el guión aún no esté listo y ninguno de los participantes de las anteriores entregas haya confirmado su regreso a la franquicia, Ziskin confía en que la película esté preparada para esa fecha. Esto clarifica el futuro cinematográfico del arácnido, envuelto en multitud de especulaciones tras el fiasco de su tercera parte.

Ese mismo mes Spider-Man 4 tendrá una dura competencia, incluso desde su propia casa. Marvel ha marcado ese mes como el elegido para estrenar El Capitán América: El Primer Vengador, y también se podrá ver la segunda parte de Las Reliquias de la Muerte, sentencia definitiva de la saga Harry Potter.

Scotty is back with another update! And this time round is the red hot chili spidey. There have been a heavy rumor circulated around the web that the script for Spiderman 4 and 5 is near completion. The plot would feature an arch enemy for Spidey and the speculation is high on the return of Venom and the birth of Carnage.

While, it may be good news for all the Spidey fans out there, however, actor Tobey Maguire may more reasons to frown than smile. That right, the producers Laura Ziskin and Grant Curtis are mulling new names for the role of Peter Parker.

In the long term, I do see the prospects of contemplating over this move. First of all, by replacing Tobey, it could standardised like a “James Bond Franchise” project – Every few movies, change a new guy. Story remains the same. Actors are changed.

Second of all, new names could also mean a new appealing factor.

WELL, though no words have been CONFIRMED but I would like to stress out this point – many story plots are leaked this way, like the green man with muscles recently. Heh?
