One of the many mysteries of air travel revolves around the restrooms. It seems everyone always has a question about them whether it be where they are, how they work, why the water doesn’t shut off or if they’re occupied or not. Most domestic airliners have three lavatories on board for the use of about 150 people. The ratio could even be less if one lav is restricted for the use of first class passengers only, making it around 2 lavs for every 138 people. This makes the restroom one of the most sought after amenities on the aircraft.

I say that, because there’s always a line to get in them. It’s almost like the passengers are waiting in line to attend the hottest club in the skies… they mingle with each other, talk about what they’re going to do at the arrival city, some take out photos of their kids and others just wait in anticipation. Then, you hear the noise.. the noise of the lock to the restroom unlock, and the door swings open. Everyone in line jumps to see who gets to go in next, almost like a bouncer allowing people into the club. Some people run on their way in, some walk, some do a cheerful dance to show off to the others that they finally made it and others don’t want to leave their newly found friends from the line behind and continue to talk while walking toward the lav slowing the process down even more.

However, those passengers who found their way to the line are already a step ahead of the rest. Many can’t seem to even find the lavs. I can’t even begin to put into words how many people walk to the back of the airplane… then begin to look left, right, behind the curtain, down, up (while walking in a circle), finally turning to the FA to say “where is the bathroom?” It’s that door that’s right in front of you, with a big sign that says “RESTROOM” yeah.. it’s right there.

Apparently, it’s also hard to comprehend that RED means occupied and GREEN means vacant. Not only do the restrooms have the color coding on the doors themselves, some newer aircraft also have illuminated signs outside of the galley to inform you of the lav’s status before even getting back there. But, ignoring that, passengers will still walk right up to the door (once they’ve found it) and try to open it. When it doesn’t open, the biggest look of confusion overcomes their faces as they ask “is it open?”

Something I’ll never understand is people who go to the lav with no shoes or socks on. There is about 138 people using that restroom and not everyone is as sanitary as you may be. Just the thought of going in there barefoot skeeves me out. What you think is water on the floor, probably isn’t. I always want to ask people before they walk in, “would you walk into a port-o-potty without shoes?” It’s the same thing. Flight Attendants are supposed to “maintain the cleanliness” of the lavs during the flight, but you’d be hard pressed to find one who does. Most just ensure they’re restocked with toilet paper and paper towels. No, I’m not going to try to sop up the “water” on the floor so you can walk in barefoot. And most don’t care. They just tip-toe around the wet spots rather then going back to their seat, which is so far away, to put shoes on.

Regardless, please realize that though your questions about the lav are annoying, because the answer is right in front of you, it provides flight attendants countless seconds of entertainment. Especially when you finally realize how to open the door using the oh-so-complicated door knob and proceed to whack yourself in the face with it. Thank you.

Chi abbandona un animale commette un reato e in base alla Legge 189/04 e può essere punito con l’arresto fino a un anno o con un’ammenda sino a 10.000 euro.

Se assisti a un caso di abbandono fai sentire la tua voce, e denuncia alle autorità giudiziarie (Carabinieri/Polizia di Stato/Corpo Forestale/Polizie locali) i colpevoli di tali atti e raccogli tutti gli elementi necessari ad inviduare i responsabili (numero di targa etc..): contribuirai a far applicare le sanzioni previste dalla legge e a fermare gli abbandoni.

Il trasporto delle mucche da latte
Quando una mucca da latte mostra segni di patologie o debolezza, o diminuisce la produzione di latte e la capacità di riproduzione viene giudicata non più redditizia e quindi avviata al macello. In un altro luogo rispetto all’allevamento in cui è sempre vissuta.

Le mucche da latte sono difficoltose da trasportare, perché spesso sono tanto debilitate o sofferenti da non riuscire a deambulare. Un’infinita di elementi combinati come: tecniche di allevamento intensivo, l’alimentazione ad alto contenuto proteico, la selezione genetica per ottenere un’elevata quantità di latte,  i problemi cronici alle zampe, le patologie, la paralisi da parto e altro , le rende vulnerabili e doloranti.

Già al momento delle operazioni di carico numerose mucche non sono più in grado di camminare.
Tante di loro non riescono ad alzarsi e rimangono accasciate: sono le “mucche a terra”.

Spinte, trascinate e sollevate
Nel viaggio verso il mattatoio la sofferenza di queste mucche non è un elemento preso in considerazione.
L’importante è che arrivino a destinazione come carne ancora viva, per permettere all’allevatore di trarne il profitto adeguato. Se muoiono nei pressi o all’interno dell’azienda o del mercato egli, non solo non sarà in grado di ricavarne alcun guadagno, ma dovrà spendere per provvedere allo smaltimento della carcassa,  considerato che non è possibile far entrare nella filiera alimentare umana  – cioè nel  ciclo produttivo della carne – un animale deceduto per malattia.

La normativa italiana ed europeaafferma che gli animali malati, o feriti – che non sono in grado di deambulare autonomamente - non sono idonei al trasporto e conseguentemente è vietato il loro spostamento.
Per loro la legge prevede la macellazione nell’allevamento d’origine o l’abbattimento sul posto e quindi la termodistruzione.

Le realtà osservate nel corso di varie investigazione svoltesi in alcuni Stati dell’Unione Europea, in particolare nei Paesi Bassi, Portogallo, Spagna, Germania e Belgio, denunciano situazioni ricorrenti di mancato rispetto delle norme e i casi di “mucche a terra” sono numerosi. Ciò accade, ovviamente, anche in Italia.

Animali “da reddito”
Gli animali “da reddito” si trasportano al macello tramite camion, su cui devono salire con le loro gambe.  Perché la vendita della carne avvenga, devono arrivare vivi, in qualsiasi condizione ma vivi.

Per legge, in fase di carico (e scarico) gli animali non devono essere mai  mantenuti in sospensione con mezzi meccanici, sollevati o tirati per la testa, le corna, le zampe, la coda o il vello.

La legge viene però contravvenuta e  le “mucche a terra, e non solo loro, spesso vengono: trascinate con una catena o una fune legate a una o a due zampe,  spinte sul camion con mezzi meccanici come pale di trattori,  sollevate e scaricate, dopo averle imbracate sommariamente, nel camion, con l’ausilio di elevatori, verricelli o mezzi meccanici simili.

Un esempio fra tutti, osservato in un mercato alimentare all’ingrosso del Nord Italia, descrive come una bovina che giaceva in terra lungo il passaggio degli animali sia stata: spinta, caricata sul trattore, trascinata per la coda, schiacciata, calpestata,  fatta rotolare sul camion. A queste azioni di violenza, si sono poi aggiunte le torture con un pungolo elettrico, utilizzato in varie parti del corpo, incluse le zone genitale e anale, per almeno 10 volte.

Il Consiglio di Stato ha respinto la richiesta avanzata da Lac (Lega Anticaccia), Lav (Lega antivivisezione) ed Enpa (Entre nazionale protezione animali) di sospendere la caccia allo storno. Lo ha reso noto la Coldiretti emiliano-romagnola, commentando positivamente la decisione del Consiglio di confermare l’ordinanza del Tar dell’Emilia-Romagna che consente la caccia in deroga a questi volatili. Si tratta di uccelli – ricorda Coldiretti in una nota – che non sono a rischio di estinzione in Italia e che nel solo 2008 hanno provocato 285 mila euro di danni all’agricoltura regionale. ”Appena l’ordinanza del Consiglio di Stato sarà notificata alla Regione (potrebbe avvenire tra oggi e domani) – ricorda Coldiretti – sarà possibile tornare a difendere le colture della nostra regione dagli attacchi degli storni. Purtroppo la vicenda di corsi e ricorsi amministrativi, che obbligano a sospendere la caccia ad un volatile estremamente dannoso, va avanti già da alcuni anni, provocando forti preoccupazioni nei produttori agricoli che si trovano indifesi dagli attacchi degli storni. C’è solo da augurarsi che la vicenda non abbia a ripetersi in futuro – conclude l’organizzazione agricola – visto che ogni anno è sempre stata riconosciuta l’ammissibilità della caccia in deroga”. One thing I can say about my job is to expect the unexpected. Every day brings something new that I haven’t experienced, heard or seen. This last four day trip brought out many new experiences.

Day three, the fun started. We arrived on the aircraft ontime and began our checks when the gate agent came onto the plane and asked me if it was okay if we boarded early. This particular agent has been with the company just as long as I have, so I laughed and reminded him that I board early, in a joking way of course. He then told me that we had a group of 40+ senior citizens traveling with us to Washington D.C. and he wanted some extra time for them to board and settled. Of course, I agreed.

We began boarding 40 minutes prior to departure and the first passenger to board went straight to the bathroom in First Class. The remaining members of the group took their time boarding, but hey — thats what we expected. During the boarding process this woman comes to the front  and starts passing clothing into the restroom and then returning to the main cabin. This happened twice. Finally, she comes up to me with a plastic bag and says “this needs to be taken off the aircraft.” Before touching it and looking as confused as puppy looking for his bone, I asked “what’s in it?” and her response: “soiled clothing.”

It seemed as if the woman in the restroom had an accident. Her daughter kept trying to clean her clothes and pass them back to her in the lav. The problem: her extra clothing was in the cargo hold.

One of the FAs in the back calls me and says “a lady just tried to pass me this bag which is leaking something, and told me it has to get off the aircraft. It got on my uniform, and I sent her forward with it.” I then told her what the substance in the bag was and she quickly went into the lav and changed her uniform. The woman gets to the front of the aircraft with her second bag of soiled clothing, which was taken off the aircraft.

Finally, her mother exits the bathroom and the First Officer opens the door to go in prior to take off and we found the lav covered in.. for lack of a better word.. crap. It was all over the walls, mirror, floor, etc. I instantly called for the cleaners to return to clean the lav and just as I did that the daughter came up to me with tears in her eyes. She was embarrassed. She attempted twice to enter the lav to clean it herself and I assured her it was no big deal, these things happen, theres no need to clean — we have people coming who are paid to do this (and make a lot more money than me I hope) and all would be taken care of. She gave me a hug and said “this is the worst way to start out a trip.” I asked her if she needed anything, she jokingly said “a bloody mary” I opened the cart and made her one. At the same time, one of the other FAs brought her mother a blanket to wrap around her waist to hide the stains, since her clothes were unattainable.

About 2 hours into the flight, the mother, came to the front galley and wanted to apologize for what happened on the ground. Again, I explained that it wasn’t a big deal. Accidents happen, and life goes on. We all will be there one day. Then she totally broke my heart by saying: “You know, I’m turning 90 in March. I’m trying to stay as active as I can to keep my body in shape and prevent situations like this morning. I figure, I have 4 more years to live and I’m not done living. I’m not ready to give up.”

I responded by saying that she looked great for 89, because she did. One of the other FAs there with me put it perfectly by saying “you must feel like a young soul in an aging vessel” and she agreed 100%. All was said and done, she thanked us again and said she thought our airline only hired the best looking people.. and of course.. I agreed.

Aside from this, bathroom situation, at NO POINT during the flight was there ever less than 6 people in line to use the restrooms in the main cabin. It made service almost impossible, actually, we did a lot of service from my galley in the front and even let main cabin passengers use the lav in the front. I was watching the “water/waste” indicator on the crew panel more closely then I pay attention to Kathy Griffin’s Tour schedule. The indicator was getting lower and lower and my nerves were getting higher and higher. Where were all these senior citizens going to pee?

Luckily, with 10 minutes to spare.. we landed in D.C. with 1.4% of the waste tank available.

Björk släpper av mig längs grusvägen och en bäck som rinner nedåt från granskogen. Det är mulet och blåsigt men i granskogen så är det stilla och det enda som hörs är den lilla bäcken som rinner strax höger om där jag går. Det är uppför men lättgått… Letar efter gläntor och fina motiv. Bäcken är svårfotograferad just här… Lavarna växer på granarna och rönnbärsträden lyser likt stoppljus där en och annan sticker upp. Här där jag står ser det nästan ut som om en bäver har varit framme men det är nog bara vädret…

Skogen är tät i mellan gläntorna men gläntorna är väldigt fina och personliga på sitt sätt. Jag ser ganska många överväxta myrstackar och varje gång tänker jag att det kanske nu är ett björnide men inte i någon hittar jag ett hål… Hittar några fina rönnbärsträd som jag sa men ingen av dom lyckas jag få bra på bild. De står ofta tätt intill granväggen och löven börjar högt…

Nästa glänta har ett väldigt häftigt träd som ligger likt en orm och väntar på sitt byte… Jag vet inte om det lever, det hade inga löv på sig men det var ju inte ovanligt att dom saknade vid denna blåsiga årstid… Det förvånar mig inte om den om ett antal månader har gröna fina löv, ormträdet där…

Nästa glänta har också ett böjt träd om än inte lika extremt. Det börjar också gå lite mer uppför nu. Uppför har det ju gått hela vägen, jag började ju inte precis i botten på fjället men det är som ställen som är plattare, sen blir det brantare, sen plattare igen och så håller det på tills man kommer upp till den sista lutningen som går upp på kalfjället. Men där är vi inte än på långa vägar, och kommer inte dit denna tur heller….

I slutet på gläntan börjar uppförsbacken igen och det blir mera kuperad terräng och granar och björkar börjar bytas ut mot sten och fjällbjörk…

Jag hör bäcken till höger och beslutar mig för att gå och titta om den blivit något fin. Den är nu nere i som en ravin, en väldigt fin sådan. Jag gillar ju bilder där man får lite höjdkänsla, det kan kännas så stort då.. Det börjar också bli mer och mer sten vilket jag försöker utnyttja. Här uppe är stenarna oftast väldigt fina med mossar och lavar på sig och de står verkligen ut i allt det andra gröna…

Nåja, ned för ravinen och mot bäcken nu…. Den är fin här, många mossiga stenar och klarrött vatten…. Men först ska vi ju ned för den färggranna backen…

Björk ringer… Det är fantastiskt nog sändning här på mobiltelefonen. Dö, säger han. Det är så dimmigt här så jag ser knappt en meter framför mig. Jag blickar uppåt och visst kan jag också ana att det är disigt mellan träden. Men jag är för mycket inne i skogen och för lågt ned än för att ha någon riktigt utdelning av det. Jag hoppas således att dimman är kvar tills jag kommer upp bland myrarna. Men än så länge är jag kvar i skogen, där stenarna blir fler, granarna färre och lutningen brantare… När jag tog denna bild så såg jag faktiskt att de disade på mellan fjällbjörkarna i bakgrunden men det var knappt något som fastnade på bild..

Beslutar mig för att gå ned till bäcken igen en bit bort… Den är fin med ett lite högre fall, eller högt och högt men en meter i alla fall… Färgat runt om med hjälp av ormbunkar och ett par stora stenar. Efter att ha krälat mig under en björk som står bland stenarna och meckat fram stativet så det ska stå så stabilt som möjligt så lägger jag kameran på högkant, något jag ofta gör med mitt nya 28mm och drar av bilden och har det faktiskt ganska mysigt där i den fuktiga mossan under björken medans jag hoppas att den inte faller över mig,…

Nu är jag snart uppe på den sluthöjd jag tänkte mig. Jag vet ju numera vart Björk är eftersom han ringde förut och jag har inga planer på att gå längre upp än där myrarna är. Det är först ett parti med ganska tjock vegetation av fjällbjörk jag ska igenom och även om det är ruskigt fint så lyckas jag inte fånga det på bild… Jag känner inte av dimman något som Björk berättade om en hoppas att den ska vara när jag väl kommer ut på de öppna myrarna.. Jag har fel, de har precis dragigt sig bortåt när jag kommer upp där. Men det gör inte så mycket för jag får istället se ett par orrhönor flyga bort över myren. Och även om jag gärna haft det disigt för bildernas skull här uppe, som ändå bara blev en och som ni snart får se, så kanske det var lika bra att det var klart. För annars hade jag kanske inte sett björnspåret som gick i älgspåren vid myrkanten… Tog inga kort på det men det var en mäktig upplevelse när man stod där ensam och genast började undra vart björnen var

Jag går en bit i vad jag hoppas är rätt riktning och kommer till slut fram till en liten större sjö i myren, inte den som är på bilden alltså utan en större och längre bort… Jag undrar då hur långt det är kvar tills jag är framme där jag tror mig veta att Björk är någonstans… Då ringer han och frågar vart jag är. jag är vid en sjö säger jag och det visar sig att han är vid den samma, fast på andra sidan…. Till slut får vi syn på varandra och bestämmer träff där sjön börjar… Det visar sig inte vara alls långt kvar då till Brottbäckstugan som den heter och där bilen står parkerad…

Karin ringer och frågar vart vi är och vi bestämmer då träff i just Brottbäckstugan som är en öppen stuga för mat, värme och övernattning om man vill…. Vi fikar och tjötar lite skit och sen far vi hemmåt igen, eller gör vi det.. Jag minns inte, men jag tror det….

Nota di Pao: Sicuramente trovo che sia una pessima idea l’uccisione reale del bovino, pur se funzionale alla scena, tanto più se la stessa era evitabile ricorrendo ad uno di quegli effetti speciali che oggigiorno ci fanno vedere cose incredibili (e spesso raccappriccianti…).

Capisco anche l’obiezione della Lav, sebbene il fatto che la scena sia stata girata all’estero, in un Paese dove tale situazione è permessa, renda il tutto una polemica utile di fondo, ma sempre pretestuosa.

Mi vien però da pensare a quanti saranno inorriditi a legegre quest’articolo e poi andranno tranquillamente a mangiarsi la loro fiorentina (visto che siamo una nazione di permalosi, per par condicio, cito quale esempio anche la cotoletta alla milanese )

Un bovino viene colpito alla testa con un punteruolo conficcato nella fronte. Si accascia a terra ancora cosciente e in quel momento gli viene tagliata la gola. Il sangue zampilla copioso mentre l’animale batte le palpebre e si muove leggermente fino a morire. Il tutto davanti all’occhio elettronico della macchina da presa.

Nel mirino della Lav c’è una sequenza di «Baaria», il film di Giuseppe Tornatore presentato alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, ambientato nella Sicilia degli anni Trenta, che esce nelle sale a fine settimana. La scena incriminata è quella sopra descritta, in cui l’uccisione è finalizzata a ricavare del sangue da raccogliere in tazze far bere ad una persona quale cura all’anemia.

Per la Lav, che ha visionato il film nella Commissione di revisione cinematografica di cui è componente per legge, la scena è raccapricciante e cruenta, tanto più perché realizzata con un animale ucciso appositamente! «Perché Tornatore – si chiede ora l’associazione -, volendo rappresentare un atto efferato dell’epoca rappresentata nel film, non ha scelto di utilizzare degli effetti speciali? Perché realizzare in Tunisia una scena che in Italia sarebbe considerata maltrattamento secondo il Codice penale poiché effettuata senza stordimento e al di fuori di un macello autorizzato, fuori dal quale un bovino non può essere abbattuto?».

Interrogativi, questi, che l’associazione animalista rivolge ora sia a Tornatore sia alla società di produzione Medusa, chiedendo altresì al sottosegretario alla Salute, Francesca Martini, «di realizzare il controllo sui set cinematografici e televisivi da lei annunciato alcuni mesi fa. Siamo convinti che così, anche per produzioni italiane realizzate in Paesi dove vigono norme più permissive di quella italiana, le cose cambierebbero».

«La scena sull’animale ucciso è quasi un documentario visto che è stata girata in un mattatoio tunisino dove i bovini vengono ammazzati tutti i giorni». Così il regista Giuseppe Tornatore, a Firenze per la sua prima proiezione del film Baarìa, ha risposto ai giornalisti che chiedevano chiarimenti sulla scena del bovino ucciso nel film che sono state al centro delle polemiche delle associazioni animaliste.

«È una scena – ha spiegato Tornatore – che volevo fortemente, non potevo eliminarla, era troppo importante. Abbiamo provato con gli effetti speciali ma non era la stessa cosa. Allora abbiamo cercato un mattatoio attivo e siamo entrati con una troupe, abbiamo travestito i lavoratori del posto con gli abiti del film e abbiamo girato una scena quasi come se fosse un documentario. Vorrei precisare che quella scena, dal vivo, avviene 5, 6 volte al giorno».

«Mi dispiace per le lamentele della figlia del cantautore Sergio Endrigo – spiega inoltre Tornatore – e se avessi la bacchetta magica tornerei indietro e non inserirei la canzone del padre nel film per non creare dispiaceri alla figlia Claudia». Nei giorni scorsi la figlia aveva detto che se avesse saputo che nel film c’ era una scena in cui si assiste all’uccisione di un animale non avrebbe autorizzato l’uso del brano scritto dal padre. Non andate a vedere il film di Tornatore, Baaria.

Un animale, un povero bovino, è stato ucciso davvero, ed in modo molto crudele.

Tornatore è andato a girarlo in Tunisia, visto che in Italia abbiamo delle leggi molto severe sulla crudeltà sugli animali.

News University’s webinar, the NPPA Virtual Video Workshop, aired live and online September 19th.  A six hour seminar crowded with valuable sage advice from Daren Durlach, Boyd Huppert, Greg T. Johnson, and Pierre Kattar will be available for replay on September 28th.  Whether called videographers, photographers or photojournalists, online editors or web-developers, if a person wants to know how to shoot meaningful visuals that documents reality, paying attention would more than pay for admission.

Caveate: I am a MOJO, a mobile journalist, also known as a one-man-band, who is sans editor.  So turn off your inner editor and embrace your B personality type. ; )

Members of NU not only attended in Miami, but also tuned-in from east to west nationally, with some viewing overseas.  Educators, freelancers, and those with media organizations posted questions and comments which were addressed by the speakers.

Additionally, comments could be viewed by members and non-members via Twitter using the hashtag #nuvideo09, which I engaged in whole-heartedly, along with a handful of others.  This took note taking a step beyond, although it didn’t eliminate the desire to scribble  additional notes.  However, making silent comments among the others at the tweetinar was an enriching way of sharing an experience as well as reinforcing  highlights.

Tip: Even though journalist need to report what happens, how it happens, as it happened, he allowed music to reflect how subject felt; in fact, the woman he interviewed reacted strongly to a song on the radio which inspired him to use the music in the clip.

Concern: Archiving massive amounts of data is becoming an issue, and he is backing up his back up because massive 30 minute videos in HD can become corrupted during editing.  (We’ve all experienced this on some level!)

Shooting video for the first time is like carrying a watermelon on your shoulder that is still attached to its vine–awkward.

There is the $8,000 camcorder which has more buttons and plugs than you have fingers.   There are cords which have to to be coiled properly before returning them to their case, but more importantly, if you uncoil the cords improperly, they will become tangled.  There is a tripod which must be finessed into position if there is room; if there is not enough room or time, then you or the nearest platform may have to be the tripod. There is a lav and its cord.  There is a battery, a battery charger.  Don’t forget the tape!

And that is just the equipment.

You have to be aware of your surroundings more so than for a typical interview.  There has to be enough light but not too much.  There should be natural sound, but not distracting or distorted; some settings echo and some are windy.  If you are on a street or near a storefront door, you could get anything from barking dogs to moving trucks.  You don’t want to have either in the audio.

So what went awry?

AUDIO: The lav’s connector was not loving the way it was plugged in apparently, so the connection created that humming noise which I could not edit out;  when I turned up the interview, up went the humming noise.

AUDIO/VIDEO: And apparently while using Premier Elements, the program does not like a lot of edits done quickly, so I created the scratch audio and transitions.  I’ll attempt to fix these by magnifying the project I’m working on and trying to split the clip only where necessary.  (I did a lot of clip splitting)

Also, the B-roll shots are a tad shaky; I was a nervous tripod and didn’t cradle the camera as steady as I would have liked.

OTHER: Apparently it isn’t acceptable to zoom-in; additionally, the shot of the tree is too dark.  There is no one to shoot the tree outside in the daytime without some source of light in the window, so unless I provide my own lighting, that is that.

AGENDA:  TO RESHOOT INTERVIEW AND GET A BETTER SHOT OF THE TREE (didn’t happen)

GOOD STUFF: Movement shot of the coffee handoff!  Framing of interviewee!  Lighting of interviewee! Having a story focus that was reasonable for a one minute limit!

These are according to my instructor.   I think that my ability to cut down 19 minutes of interview to one minute story which tells a story is very descent.  And the editing part was actually enjoyable, once I figured out where some of the options were on Premier Elements.

For someone with two hours of instruction and a few minutes of practice, I am eager to move forward and produce a better video.

First Video, Version #2:  Same Footage

Problems:

1. Audio is awful because I did not have the lav plugged into the camcorder tightly.
2. Tried to replace zoom shot of tree with still, but the still is too dark.
3. I don’t like the shots of the tree from the inside either; I never got a full length shot.
4. Tight shots are too shaky.
5. I don’t know why for a minute and some seconds there is dead air, except something residual from editing was rendered with the 1 minute of video I produced.

Kudos:

1. I know my editing software intimately.
2. All the snips, skips, blanks, etc. created in editing are gone.
3. I know to cut at the end of a hard sound or end of word and leave breathing space before words.

For Future Reference:

1. With the time restraints, having a sharp focus for the story going in would be best so that the interview is more planned out and I’m not “seeking” a story while shooting (or editing).
2. Get intimate with mic’ing and get hands on wireless mics.
3. Use the steady tripod.

Overall, other than having to be graded on a single first take with only re-edited material, I did get a better idea of what it takes to make a one minute video; also, I actually enjoyed myself some of the time.

I could be good at this.
