The male model’s pretty handsome too, don’t you think? She’s going freelance next year too after studying at the LCC. Check out her portfolio so far.

It took a fair bit of time to get the right shot as it’s actually a self-portrait. Trying to hint at a heart shape with our composition became quite a task.

Dear Friends of Life Connection Church,

Last Sunday was an awesome Sunday after thanksgiving, and it was the first day of advent. Despite all the bad news in the media, people really seem to be in a good mood this year. At least the people that get out and about seem to be. Lots of smiles. If you are having trouble smiling try this: Be generous. Give stuff away. Give away your money, time, and talents. Give someone love when they don’t expect it. It will lift your spirit, guaranteed. Walk into a MacDonald’s tonight and pay for a family’s dinner. Rake your neighbor’s leaves while he is not home. At lunch today, by a strangers lunch. When they argue just say it is your deed of kindness (DOK) for the day. If they ask why again say, “Just spreading God’s love around.” Give above and beyond what you would normally give your church. Get an angel off the angel tree and provide him or her with Christmas. I found out this year that angel tree recipients are not just little kids. My angel tree person is a 74 year old lady. She wanted a robe and slippers. How cool is that? We got her some very soft and pink stuff and some extras she didn’t ask for.

Try it…..Stop thinking about whatever is getting you down and do a generous Deed of Kindness (DOK) for someone. (If you are reading this at work, get up and DOK right now, it will make your day) One of the things I like most about LCCers is that DOK is in our DNA. LCCers love being God’s love with skin. And seriously…They will tell you that it truly is a blessing to give. You will receive a true sense of peace when you generously, no strings attached, give.

People will look at you like you’re weird or there are strings attached. They are not used to receiving generosity in their daily lives. I had to almost arm wrestle a guy yesterday just so he would let me pay for his coffee. It was fun…and he left with a smile on his face while I got to leave with a smile on my heart.

When you shine God’s loving light on others, the result is peace. Peace is something money can’t buy, unless the goal you have for your money is generosity. If the object of your love is yourself, you will never be at peace. If the object of your love and worship is God, the fruit of that worship will be love overflowing to others, and a peace in your heart that will override any anxiety and replace depression with hope.

So try it…..Stop thinking about yourself and focus on worshiping God by loving people. I would love to hear the results….

This Sunday is Advent Sunday #2. We will light the second candle for peace. It will also be communion Sunday. It will be a great day to be in church together. I will be starting my Christmas/New Years series I am calling, “A Bright Christmas and a Happy New Me“. This Sunday’s talk is “The Light that Brings Peace.”

Be there and bring a friend.

We have an after church cover dish Christmas party coming up in next Sunday: Dec 13 after church. Email Brent@lifeconnectionchurch.org and tell him what you are bringing or sign up on Sunday. We need more main courses.

We will be having our Midnight Christmas Eve Service at 11:45 pm on Christmas Eve. We will sing Christmas carols, have a candle light service, communion, and celebrate some baptisms at midnight on Jesus’ birthday.

If you have not been to a midnight service you have to come, it is a really special time. If you have been planning on getting baptized, how cool would it be to be baptized at midnight on Christmas morning? Email me if you want more baptismal info.

Dear Friends of LCC, If you have been around me, LCC, or LCCers for anytime at all, you know that

Dear Friends of LCC,

If you have been around me, LCC, or LCCers for anytime at all, you know that we are about loving God and loving people, and what better time to do that than during the official season of love. The Christmas season has kicked off. What a great time to show the world that Christmas is about the Love of God being given to a world that needs Him desperately through His Son Jesus Christ.

We kicked off the season on Thursday night as twelve LCCers served the evening meals at The Union Gospel Mission. This is the same mission written about in The Same Kind of Different As Me. Nothing changes two people’s lives like serving and being served. I have heard some powerful testimony as to the effect of serving those in need from the one’s from LCC who did the serving. And like I said, that was just the start. LCCers serve year round, but we take it up a few notches during this season. We still have some slots available to serve in many different ways through Christmas day. If you would like to find out more or volunteer, email brent@lifeconnectionchurch.org.

I know you all are going to do some major shopping in the next couple of weeks. Please consider spending some of your shopping money on someone in need. Due to the recession, there are more people in our area in need than during a typical Christmas season. One of the places we are committed to assisting in ministry is Six Stones Mission Network in Euless. They have helped more people out in the last quarter than they ever have before and they are short of food and clothing. So how is this for a great idea? Buy food and clothing for those who cannot buy for themselves. You can call Six Stones and ask how you can best help restock their shelves at 817.868.7400 or email then at info@6stones.org .

You can see a reminder of the opportunities at this Link…..LCC 2009 Serving Opps…..

Besides all the serving we will be doing, we will be celebrating also. We have an after church cover dish Christmas party coming up in December.

My Christmas teaching series, beginning Dec 6, will be, “Dreaming of a Bright Christmas and a Happy New Me“.

Last Thursday me and the other Graphics lot took a visit to London, to look at the LCC. I have to sayy.. I was very dissapointed. In my opinion, they prided themselves too much on how many people apply, and how many people are’nt lucky enough to get in, other than trying to make a good impression on the open day. Maybe its because I have been to other friendly institutes such as Norwich and Lincoln, but I don’t think I am expecting too much.

I might apply anyway, just to see if I actually had a chance to get into a University like that, but we will see. I just think that it was a great shame, as I was beginning to grow on the idea of actually staying in London, whereas I wouldn’t have given the idea a chance before.

At the moment its a toss up beween NUCA and Lincoln University, but I think I will have to decide closer to the time of interview.

Dear Friends of LCC, Are you a texter? How about the social online networking stuff? Do you do Fac

Dear Friends of LCC,

Are you a texter? How about the social online networking stuff? Do you do Facebook or Twitter? Have you ever uploaded a video? I remember just a few years ago insisting that I would never use texting and I had no idea what online social networking was all about. Things really do change. I just had a family conversation, via text messages, and we decided as a group, without speaking a word to each other, that we are going to the movies tomorrow afternoon. (We are a certified tech-functional family)

AWESOME!!! I don’t mean AWESOME!!! my family made a decision via text messaging. I mean…AWESOME!!!…I am blessed with a loving family that likes to hang out with each other, I mean loves to hang out with each other. What a blessing for which I am truly thankful. I know not every one is blessed with a loving family. But we are all blessed. You know what I am talking about. If you will slow down a minute, and stop worrying about the things you are worrying about, you can think of the blessings in your life. I don’t always feel blessed even though I am… Things don’t always go the way I want. Life does hurt sometimes…. But I am blessed…..

I need reminding that I am blessed……Here is your reminder…..You are blessed…..

For some of you who are reading this you have not felt blessed for awhile. Life has just kind of stunk. Your thought life has been dominated by something or some things in your life that have really been bothering you and may be causing anxiety and depression. I understand that. We all do… Things in life stink sometimes. But here is the but. And for some right now, in your situation it may be a really big but. And with the holidays coming up it may become a bigger but….. (Note the just one t in but)

But…..You are blessed….You have something to be thankful of……And if you can’t think of any….Pray….Ask God to point them out….and if you are so stressed and bombarded with stink life right now that you are having trouble hearing God…Then call me or another friend and say, “Would you help me think of the things in my life I should be thankful for?”

Oxymorons…… Hopeless-Christian, Loveless-Christian, Miserable-Christian, …Do I need more? I know……It is possible to think and feel opposite of how a Christian should think and feel, but…..You can turn it around. And not by yourself….With the help of Christ-like friends and Christ himself.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:2

Do you remember the old commercial that said, “You are what you eat.” Well…You know what God says…..”You are what you think.” Don’t think like the people of the world who don’t have a forgiven, reconciled, love filled, grace given, merciful, life…….Think like a Christ-filled Christian.

Here is what the devil wants for you this time of year while we are supposed to be celebrating what we are thankful for and the birth of Christ: He wants you to be thinking like a moron. He wants you to forget the many blessings in life, starting with the gifts of God, and think like the world.

Don’t fall for his tricks….He is a liar……

Make a list right now.

Start off with being thankful for Jesus and then it seems to just flow from there….

Keep your list with you and keep it growing.

Every time you think of something to be thankful for…..write it down…

Text or email some people right now and tell them you are thankful they are in your life.

Start your prayers off with the things you are thankful for.

It will….I promise…God promises….It will transform the way you think….

Start making up your list today so on turkey day you won’t feel like a turkey…..

I will see you on Sunday and bring a friend. if you do not have a church you call home, please be our guest this Sunday.

When you ask people what they want in life, most will say: “I just want to be happy.” We want our kids to be happier than we are. People naturally aim for happy. The problem with aiming for happiness is that happiness is situational and it is temporary, based on our current situation. The Bible teaches us that what we need is joy. Joy comes from the inside. Joy is a state of mind or of the soul and it transcends the situational.

Joy is internal and it is eternal. This past Sunday I taught a teaching called, “Drawn by Joy.” This is ten minutes of that teaching, Part 1. The rest will follow.

My first tutorial, where we talk about our ideas, show our work, progress and see others work etc.,

My first tutorial, where we talk about our ideas, show our work, progress and see others work etc., took place last Monday. Mine was with Steve Lloyd and during the tutorial I showed all the work I had, spoke about the type of work I want to do for the project, which is print but didn’t have a firm theme that I wanted to go with for it. After the tutorial it pushed me to start actually looking into ideas, so my original idea of fairytale/make-believe become more prominant in my mind. I started looking into this on the internet, thinking that maybe it would lead me onto a different theme but it didn’t and I began to realise that this is the theme that I wanted to work with.

Decided theme now was: fairytale

Now I just began compiling ideas, looking on the internet at fairytales, work relating to fairytales, ideas for the PDF and then words that i could possibly use for each letter of the alphabet, creating a list.

I new that I wanted to use different processes to create the pieces for each letter of the alphabet. Then I also wanted to create a little story that would run through the alphabet, so on each spread would be a part of the story, featuring a word beginning with that particular letter. Then with this I would link the piece of work I was creating, into the story or create them to be relevant with the story.

Ideas for processes:

collage, dark room photography, photography, posters, computer, screen printing, stencil, letterpress, drawing, spray painting, sewing….

Basically I wanted to show my interests; which are print and hand made graphics and then create a little story with the theme of fairytale, that would be different, interesting and a little funny. I hope that this will be a different idea and will appeal to the tutors just for being fresh, interesting and different.

Plus, the VCT that I had decided on going with, that has to link in with our PDF work was ‘Found or <Find>’. I new straight away that this VCT lecture was the one that I was interested in and it links in with some of the kind of work I want to do for the project. I can use old ideas, old work to print over or cut a stencil into, all the materials that I have collected over a long time, new objects that I find, old pictures and so on.

“As students of Sussex University we would like to extend our solidarity to the London College of Communication Oppose group who occupied their university over proposed course cuts and redundancies. We are all too familiar with the patterns displayed by the LCC management of top-down decision making without consultation of (or even communication with) affected staff and students and of the overlooking of our education and livelihoods in favour of a profit-orientated agenda. We condemn the totalitarian measures taken to repress this necessary protest which include the targeting of individual students with court injunctions. We are inspired by your ongoing resistance and wish you the best of luck in your fight.”

LCC Oppose blog

“We deplore the targeted intimidation and dismissal of workers fighting for decent conditions at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. As students, we recognise that those workers who maintain the infrastructure of our universities worldwide are an integral part of these institutions and we reject an education that comes at the cost of the exploitation of those who enable it. Our academic institutions must be places of respect and safety for everyone that forms a part of them; not of exploitation, fear and harassment. We extend our solidarity to Mr Gophe and the resisting students and workers of UCT.”

DayCare Plus will be having a Thanksgiving Lunch on Wednesday, November 18th. We are inviting all of the parents of the children here at our daycare. They will get to have a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch complete with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, applesauce, & rolls. This is one of the daycare’s favorite outreach programs to get the parents involved with their child/children here at the daycare. Last year was the first year we had our Thanksgiving Lunch with the parents and we had many show up. Afterwards we got many compliments and thank you’s from everyone. We do encourage all the parents that can make it out to the daycare to come and enjoy this time with your child/children.
