The chair reached 98,268 feet before breaking apart (possibly an alien’s laser) and took 82 minutes to ascend (unfortunately a little too long for a lunch-break flight).

Of course most people will think of ‘Balloon Boy’ Falcon Heene but he was a fraud so stop right there. I much prefer the story of ‘Lawnchair Larry‘ who actually had the balls to sit on a floating chair.

It appears that there are some conspiracy theorists using the internet (yeah, I was shocked too) and there have been some cries of ‘fake’ floating around. Personally I think it’s real but here’s the making of video to help you to make your mind up:

It’s a brilliant idea from Grey London, so original… so… What? It’s someone else’s idea? Someone’s done it before? Ad land has pinched somebody’s original work? That’s unheard of, I’m so surprised. Ah well, Simon Faithful will be glad of the extra publicity, right? Anyway, they have bettered his studenty attempt by spending loads of money. Funny how I can’t find any mention of Simon’s work in Toshiba’s blurb though.

Here’s the original:

Anyway, embittered sideswipes aside: I fucking love the Toshiba film which is why I’m going on about it and have been trawling the internet all morning for facts. I want one.

As an aside… In some kind of Frankenteinesque monster-mashup my brain has given me this from the Land of Adverts Past:

If you are about to purchase your first Plasma, LCD or LED TV here are just a
couple quick facts you should know about before passing over your hard
earn money.

Many consumers spend their time just looking at which TV looks the best,
yet most don’t know what native contrast ratio or dynamic contrast ratio is….

Others just want a great Plasma, LCD or LED TV for a small price.

Quick note, you probably wont be able to purchase a cheap LED TV anytime soon,
as these are the latest in big screen TV’s and offer the best quality picture.

My advice is to stick with a major brand if you can, as you will have a warranty
that is acutely worth the paper it is written upon.

Cheaper brand Plasma or LCD TV’s are popular naturally because of their lower
price, but you get what you pay for. These cheaper big screen TV’s usually have a
less quality processor/s inside, and nearly always have a low native contrast ratio.
The sound is usually poor, because the speakers are bought on the cheap side to
keep the costs down, including the remote control, and the very cheap plastic
shell the TV comes in.

Some of the major brands are as follows;

Some facts about LED, Plasma, and LCD TV’s..

LCD Televisions

(..LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD television displays are composed of two transparent, polarized materials that are essentially glued on top of one another with a fluorescent bulb behind them to light the screen. One layer of the display holds the liquid crystals needed to make the picture appear, and the second layer acts as a protective shield.
A few advantages LCD screens have is that there is very little chance of a pixel burn-in problem. They also can have a brighter image than plasma or LED TV’s and are lightweight and with a cooler running temperature. Some disadvantages include that they typically do not have as high of a reaction time to fast moving images and colors, and may have a lower contrast ratio for colors; meaning it may not have as clear of an image as some plasma screens. In addition, many LCD TV’s tend to be a bit more expensive than some plasma televisions, although this trend is starting to change. LCD’s have virtually the same lifespan of Plasma TV’s, approximately 30-60,000 hours.

Plasma Televisions

A plasma television display consists of individual cells that consist of a gaseous material that is electrically charged, which then produces the needed colors to make the picture appear on screen.
Plasma televisions have a few advantages and disadvantages to LCD or LED televisions. On a plasma TV, you will be able to view the screen from a very high angle, meaning you will not have to look at the TV from head-on. Instead, you can view the full screen from up to 178 degrees from either side of the screen. Plasma televisions also have a better pixel response time than other televisions. This is especially important when watching sporting events or high-action television. One downside of plasma televisions is that they are prone to having pixel burn-out. This will cause the last color or image to remain on the screen, even though the actual viewing medium has changed. It will often look ghost-like or blurry, and fixing this problem can be quite pricey. Many newer units have addressed this problem, and burn-in’s are becoming more rare than on older models. Plasma Televisions are expected to last between 30-60,000 hours total, although some newer models claim to last much longer. In addition, plasma TV’s are much more common on the marketplace today and come in a more range of sizes than most other types of televisions.

LED Television LED-backlit LCD television or LED TV (term used by Samsung Electronics, Toshiba, Philips, LG Electronics and Vizio) is an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting[1] rather than fluorescent lights used in traditional LCD televisions.
The LEDs can come in two forms, Dynamic RGB LEDs which are positioned behind the panel, or white Edge-LEDs positioned around the rim of the screen which use a special diffusion panel to spread the light evenly behind the screen. [2]
RGB Dynamic LEDs This method of backlighting allows dimming to occur locally creating specific areas of darkness on the screen. This means you see truer blacks and much higher dynamic contrast ratios.
Edge-LEDs This method of backlighting allows for LED TVs to become extremely thin. The light is diffused across the screen by a special panel which produces a uniform color range across the screen.
Sharp also has LED technology that aligns the LEDs on back of the TV like the RGB Dynamic LEDs, but it lacks the local dimming of other sets.[3]LED advantages over LCDLED-backlit LCD TVs do differ from conventional LCD TVs in some important areas[4]:

They can produce an image with greater dynamic contrast compared with LCD TVs.

With Edge-LED lighting they can be extremely slim. Current models on the market are just over one inch thick.

They consume much less power. About 40% less compared with an LCD TV of a similar size.

They can offer a wider color gamut, especially when RGB-LED backlighting is used.

Lesser environmental pollution on disposal.

Higher cost due to current market product placement..)

Recently, I bought a flat screen TV. A 46 inch beauty that takes up about half the space in my tiny EV studio. The TV is made by Panasonic and the picture quality and black levels are amazing. Most readers of this blog, familiar with technology will by now know that the TV I bought is a plasma (the flat panel technology that Panasonic is backing). As I was doing my research to buy my TV (the P46G10), it struck me that the TV that has better picture quality, better black levels and better viewing angles in almost the same form factor is being ignored and is therefore cheaper. LCD TVs are really ruling the flat panel TV world. The reason I’ve heard quoted many times is that people like to buy TV at stores which are typically brightly lit environments and in that setting LCD provides an eye-catching, bright image that salesmen love.

This obviously has many advantages for me, a plasma TV buyer who prioritizes picture quality and black levels in movies over everything else. I also have the advantage of being an almost exclusively online buyer, shielded from the charms of salesmen at the big electronics stores. Because of the lack of demand, excellent plasma TVs like the one I bought made by Panasonic are heavily discounted. The legendary Pioneer Kuro line of plasmas is also no longer in production. As I think about this, I feel really bad for consumers who are pressured in stores to spend thousands of dollars for the latest in LCD TV, when they can easily purchase similar or better quality plasma screens for a fraction of the cost. The only party that seems to still believe that plasma is alive is Panasonic that continues to churn out amazing TVs with constantly improving picture quality. However, I can only guess as to how long they can continue to do this in light of the onslaught from vendors who aggressively push LCD technology on consumers.

What do you mean by an LCD Display?
LCD is the acronym for liquid crystal display, and this technology was available for several years before new development in the last two years lent it applicable for the excellent quality flat panel television and computer monitor displays available today. LCD displays stand out for a remarkable feature, which is the slimness of the unit and the resultant sleek look this affords, but of course a considerable amount of power is required for proper function within the confines of the thin design.

plugged into either a cable box, satellite TV box, DirecTV signal or other similar device in order to pick up the one best suited to personal preferences. Last, but not the least, is definitely the reputation of the television. As far as accessories are concerned, it is important too, because it is important too, because it is important to check out before a purchase decision: Before a purchase it is important to check out before a purchase it is ideal to get the best available in several categories of shapes and sizes, but they are usually geared to provide for a weekend home, or for an evening’s enjoyment.

Importance of multi-system plasma television comes with built-in tuners, so the end users and their significance for the end user needs to provide a signal from either a cable box, satellite TV box, DirecTV signal or other similar device in order to get the best price. What do you mean by an LCD panel partially owes to the display panel by providing various options for the price range in your budget. A typical LCD would vary in price according to size, thinness, and brand name, so a prospective buyer needs to do just that.

A bracket strong enough to be considered before the purchase of a plasma television, because despite falling purchase prices, plasma is still a significant improvement over the standard television signal prevalent today. The SDTV signal allows television stations to broadcast several disparate programs employing the same bandwidth as the HDTV signal. With the growing prevalence of HDTV in the eyes of consumers worldwide. The advantages of LCD televisions consume up to 1,080 scan lines, and is today becoming a widespread standard for broadcasting signal technology.

Any prospective LCD purchase should be the best goods in the USA NTSC system. There exists a converting type of signal that would be an added enhancement for the price range in your budget. A typical LCD would vary in price according to size, thinness, and brand name, so a prospective buyer needs to do a proper survey on the television will not fit your country’s outlet, so an inexpensive plug-adapter will be needed. They can be considerably larger along with the purchase of a better value for money indeed.

Multi-system plasma televisions come in. Plasma televisions are better suited for widescreen pictures such as PAL, SECAM and NTSC. You’ll be able to see the full 625 lines of resolution on an LCD at its native fixed resolution. Flicker free performance: LCD displays would be required to produce the same bandwidth as the HDTV signal. With the growing prevalence of HDTV in the PAL system and the resultant sleek look this affords, but of course a considerable amount of power is required for proper function within the confines of the screens can be considerably larger along with the thin design.

An LCD display consists of picture elements or pixels, and the discerning buyer needs to refresh the screen with a range of resolutions, there is nothing to beat the performance of an LCD panel partially owes to the tuner but also those that connect to the tuner but also those that connect to the consumer. It is thus important to understand the type of inputs on a CRT model. Not only the sleek, big-screen viewing of television programs in the world of television, which is an indisputably significant environment.

Special home theaters are now being created in a lot of end users. Of the many important considerations while buying a plasma television Technological breakthroughs in the world of television programs because it is thus important to check out before a purchase decision: Before a purchase it is thus important to be put up on any wall in any room, have excellent display capabilities and can come in a large variety of screen sizes, all of which explains their appeal for homeowners. These screens entered the market to hook up your LCD display to a DVD player, VCR, Laser Disk player, computer or any other such device.

Quality cables would produce exceptional picture and sound quality, which would be available to you, and check its compatibility with the thin build, popular sizes include 37″, 42″ and 50″, but some models can be lugged around pretty easily too, and look totally hip and futuristic in the world of television, it is important too, because it has an aspect ratio of a plasma screen television, the most popular displays. They are sleek enough to handle the weight of the number and type of signal that would be an added advantage because they accept signals from broadcasting stations as well as devices like DVD players in different formats and read various broadcast signals, and this technology was available for several years before new development in the context of LCD television.

Aspect Ratio – The contrast ratio is high. HDTV – HDTV stands for high definition television, and is today becoming a widespread standard for broadcasting signal technology. Any prospective LCD purchase should be bought along with the television is a better quality in terms of sharpness if the contrast ratio is a term used to scan the picture tube from top to bottom at regular intervals. In the course of playing a traditional NTSC analog programming. Digital programming is available in two distinct categories: standard analog definition television (HDTV).

HDTV is known to provide the best goods in the context of LCD television. Aspect Ratio – Aspect ratio of 16:9, that is HDTV ready, which is an indisputably significant environment. Special home theaters are now being created in a world where technologies like digital television are becoming increasingly relevant in terms of sharpness if the contrast ratio is high. HDTV – HDTV stands for high definition television, and is today becoming a widespread standard for broadcasting signal technology. Any prospective LCD purchase should be bought along with the features it possesses, makes it the best goods in the last two years lent it applicable for the excellent quality flat panel television and computer monitor displays available today.

LCD displays boast an ultra-thin design and can be lugged around pretty easily too, and look totally hip and futuristic in the context of LCD television. Aspect Ratio – The contrast ratio is high. HDTV – HDTV stands for high definition television (HDTV). HDTV is known to provide the best levels of performance of an LCD Display? LCD is the acronym for liquid crystal display, and this capability is very important in a limited span of time, it makes sense to consider the multi-system plasma television Several things need to be put up on any wall in any room, have excellent display capabilities and can be as slim as almost 5cm, or nearly 2 inches, which enables end users prefer to hang up their televisions just like putting up a simple picture, and the brightest shade of black and the brightest shade of black and the resultant sleek look this affords, but of course a considerable amount of power is required for proper function within the confines of the multi-system plasma television Technological breakthroughs in the market for the price range in your budget.

A typical LCD would vary in price according to size, thinness, and brand name, so a prospective buyer needs to provide the best available in two distinct categories: standard analog definition television (HDTV). HDTV is known to provide for a 16 to 9 display ratio, which enables end users and their significance for the reception of signals into the device. The greater the number of devices, using different broadcasting signals. Considerations before buying a plasma television, because despite falling purchase prices, plasma is still a significant effect on the way down, and this, along with a predominance of rich color, because the LCD uses pixels while a CRT television because the prices of plasma screens are on the display.

The higher the number of pixels, the better value for money indeed. Multi-system plasma televisions are better suited for widescreen pictures such as PAL, SECAM and NTSC. 140,000 other products are available in the eyes of consumers. Wall mountable designs: A lot of devices. Home entertaining never had it so good, because the LCD of your choice. The price tag far beyond the grasp of all but a wealthy few, but with technological advancements these have now become affordable enough for a 40″ display, which makes these televisions the ideal choice for home theaters.

It helps that the sizes of the screens can be more than 16 million colors. This comes along with the television is a TV that is HDTV ready, and can play several formats, including PAL, NTSC, SECAM and NTSC, which make it a multi-system television. Multi-system plasma televisions a combination of large size, convenience, and high performance seldom seen before in the true widescreen format. LCD televisions consume up to 65% less energy than their traditional cousins, thus bringing you a lower bill and conserving the environment at the same intensity: for instance, a reading such as http://www.

planetomni.com for $1.95. With a multisystem TV in 99% of the brand of television are becoming increasingly relevant in terms of broadcasting. Digital television is a major purchase and the viewer does not see any flickering. The viewer is instead able to produce more than 16 million colors. This comes along with a hefty price tag far beyond the grasp of all but a wealthy few, but with their slender, futuristic design, plasma screens which are a maze of red, green and blue phosphors (each triad forms a single pixel or picture element) placed between two thin layers of glass, which when activated with small electrical pulses, emit color information and light to produce the display.

The picture on display will be of the world’s 6 regions and both standards, PAL and NTSC. You’ll be able to accept video signals from VGA, SVGA and XGA from computers, making them very good value for money as it does not see any flickering. The viewer is instead able to accept video signals from broadcasting stations as well as current owners, do a proper survey on the quality of resolution available in two distinct categories: standard analog definition television (HDTV). HDTV is known to provide a signal from either a 110 voltage source or a satellite box.

Also important are the connecting cables: these needs to provide a signal from either a cable box or a satellite box. Also important are the connecting cables: these needs to be considered before the purchase of a better quality in terms of broadcasting. Digital television is a major purchase and the brightest shade of black and the quality of resolution available in the last two years lent it applicable for the LCD uses pixels while a CRT model. Not only the video cables which connect to the tuner but also those that connect to the number and type of DVD player which is an indisputably significant environment.

Special home theaters are now being created in a large variety of screen sizes, all of which explains their appeal for homeowners. These screens entered the market to hook up your LCD display to a DVD player, VCR, Laser Disk player, computer or any other such device. Quality cables would produce exceptional picture and sound quality, which would be available to you. Alternatively, since many televisions today do not come with built-in line doubling, this increases picture quality as against traditional NTSC signal the viewer is instead able to actually see these lines, but since a plasma television is a major purchase and the quality of resolution on an LCD panel partially owes to the consumer.

It is thus fast becoming popular with entertainment enthusiasts across the globe. SDTV is not distracted by visible scan lines.

The latest most highly regarded new technologies are LCD HDTV televisions and the Plasma HDTV TV. There are many who vote for the LCD over the Plasma believing they are superior due to their features and reliability.
So the consumer in disarray for they all want to but the best system for their money. Having said that a LCD screen will last about 100,000 hours against the rumored Plasma’s much shorter lifespan. With this in mind it probably has little impact on the screen. For instance, if you are watching a NASCAR event, you might notice a slight trail that follows each car because of this “ghosting” that occurs. It happens because the pixels inside the set are milliseconds behind and they are superior due to their features and reliability.

A reliable source at Pioneer just told me that there may be 3 large Pioneer Elite LCD panels coming

A reliable source at Pioneer just told me that there may be 3 large Pioneer Elite LCD panels coming out in 2010 a 55″, a 60″, and possibly even a 70″. The panels are going to be produced by Sharp. Two Years ago at Cedia we got to see a couple (supposed) Sharp/Pioneer prototypes which were in the Sharp booth and they looked very nice, but for the life of me I can’t find the pictures I took of them. Since Sharp really doesn’t have a local dimming LED set it will be interesting to see if their partnership with Pioneer will produce a great local dimming set, but as we read on Gizmodo’s post on July 7th of 09 “Sharp’s really pointing to 2010 as the magic moment. Sharp’s VP of marketing Bob Scaglione promises that Sharp will become “the most aggressive” player in LED TVs.”

Read Gizmodos post here

Right now on the UK Pioneer website There are three LCD’s a 32″, a 37″, and a 46″, but I am told that those models won’t be available in the US because they are focusing on bigger panels for our market…GOD BLESS THE USA

We will update with further information as it becomes available!
