First, he argues that Climategate shows that the peer-review process can be corrupted:

Here’s what Phil Jones of the CRU and his colleague Michael Mann of Penn State mean by “peer review.” When Climate Research published a paper dissenting from the Jones-Mann “consensus,” Jones demanded that the journal “rid itself of this troublesome editor,” and Mann advised that “we have to stop considering Climate Research as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers.”

So much for Climate Research. When Geophysical Research Letters also showed signs of wandering off the “consensus” reservation, Dr. Tom Wigley (“one of the world’s foremost experts on climate change”) suggested they get the goods on its editor, Jim Saiers, and go to his bosses at the American Geophysical Union to “get him ousted.” When another pair of troublesome dissenters emerge, Dr. Jones assured Dr. Mann, “I can’t see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!”

Second, he writes that the mainstream media is far too biased to report the facts:

And gullible types like… Andrew Revkin of the New York Times fell for it hook, line, and tree-ring. The e-mails of “Andy” (as his CRU chums fondly know him) are especially pitiful. Confronted by serious questions from Stephen McIntyre, the dogged Ontario retiree whose Climate Audit website exposed the fraud of Dr. Mann’s global-warming “hockey stick” graph), “Andy” writes to Dr. Mann to say not to worry, he’s going to “cover” the story from a more oblique angle:

I’m going to blog on this as it relates to the value of the peer review process and not on the merits of the mcintyre et al attacks.

peer review, for all its imperfections, is where the herky-jerky process of knowledge building happens, would you agree?

And, amazingly, Dr. Mann does! “Re, your point at the end — you’ve taken the words out of my mouth.”

And that’s what Andrew Revkin did, week in, week out: He took the words out of Michael Mann’s mouth and served them up to impressionable readers of the New York Times and opportunist politicians around the world champing at the bit to inaugurate a vast global regulatory body to confiscate trillions of dollars of your hard-earned wealth in the cause of “saving the planet” from an imaginary crisis concocted by a few dozen thuggish ideologues. If you fall for this after the revelations of the last week, you’re as big a dupe as Begley or Revkin.

I think we need to be skeptical of having science hijacked to prove things that the secular left wants it to prove. They want to “prove” evolution so that they can undermine traditional morality, which they view as an unnecessary restraint on their pursuit of happiness in this life. They want to “prove” global warming so that they can undermine the free market and gain control of the production and consumption of individuals. And they often discriminate against skeptics in the peer-review process (and in hiring/promotion decisions) in order to manufacture a false consensus.

Is this the reason that CRU's data has been "lost"?

SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

[...]The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.

[...] Their findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity.

The Washington Times reports on some of the hacked e-mails that talked about data “loss”.

Professor Phil Jones, head of the CRU and contributing author to the United Nation’s IPCC report chapter titled “Detection of Climate Change and Attribution of Causes,” says he “accidentally” deleted some raw temperature data used to construct the aggregate temperature data CRU distributed. If you believe that, you’re probably watching too many Al Gore videos.

Mr. Jones is the same professor who warned that global-warming skeptics “have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think I’ll delete the file rather than send to anyone.”

The worst part of this mess is that taxpayers footed the bill for all of this “research”. In effect, the government was distributing taxpayer money to “scientific” lobbyists.  These “scientists” then put out suspect data in order to trick the public into voting for increased government power over individuals and businesses – all to “solve” a completely made-up crisis. It’s depressing. The only thing to do to solve this is for the public to vote for smaller government and lower taxes. Everything needs to be privatized.

Although she made a living off of being naked, reality star (?) Tila Tequila doesn’t want you watching her “stolen” sex tape. According to TMZ

Just days after she Ustreamed herself in a naked rant, a new XXX video surfaced on a porn site called 4tube.com featuring Tila in a very compromising adult position with a naked man.

Tila doesn’t know why the video is surfacing now, but she claims it was ripped from a laptop that she reported stolen roughly two years ago — and now she’s threatening to sue the site for posting the clip.

The only thing surprising about this is that it’s been this long without a Tila Tequila sex tape on the interwebs. I just assumed she already had one or twenty of ‘em out there. Didn’t you? It’s like finding out the Hanukkah Fairy isn’t Jewish or that your mom isn’t a whore. Okay, okay — settle down — geez, I’m just being facetious here. Everybody already knows your mom’s a whore. I was just using that as a frame of reference.

on a sadder note, my sister after 20 years of living at home is moving out today….all the way to England. from Ohio! Man she’s going to have ONE LONG ASS DAY of travels. and going forward in time and such. I’m so excited for her, so so so excited. Normally I would tell you all to beware of those musical projects that are crazily over-hyped. They only tend to disappoint in the end.

But around a month ago, Sub Pop filtered out Teen Dream, the new LP from Beach House, to a few select bloggers who immediately began tweeting that it was sure to be the best album of 2010. Then Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear got in on that action and said it was actually one of the ten best albums of his entire life.

Naturally I was completely jealous and moped about, enraged that I had to wait for January to roll around. UNTIL TODAY.

Victoria and Alex were lovely enough to post their new single “Norway” on the interwebz and give the blood-thirsty crowd a taste of what’s to come.

I won’t say too much about the song as it’s already been written up to death. But I will say this.

Today is Obama’s unlucky day, and the overwhelming wave of public outcry at his mishandling of the Ft. Hood Massacre has led him to run for cover, using Iranian and al-Qaeda agents for self-defense.

YahooNews, a we’ll-print-anything-to-run-cover-for-obama news outlet, is pushing 2 reports this morning to this effect.

In the first report, “AP Source: Gitmo 9/11 suspects to NY for trial”, Devlin Barrett of the AP informs the world that Obama will move several Al-Qaida terrorists to New York City, and put them on trial in a civilian court. This information was leaked to the AP, by someone in Eric Holder’s department. Barrett says that Holder will make an announcement this morning.

Uh, does ANYONE in the BHussein Obama Administration remember what happened the LAST TIME those Al-Qaeda terrorists were New York City? Anyone? It wasn’t fucking pretty.

In the second report featured by YahooNews, “Obama orders review of possible Fort Hood signs” two AP reporters, indicate that Obama has ordered an investigation of why warning signs of Hasan’s proclivities were ignored.

Then to avert anger over this Sunni Muslim who committed the massacre for purely religious motives, Obama has given the Justice Department the go-ahead to seize 5 Shiite Mosques and a NYC Skyscraper tied to Iranian intelligence and terrorism-promotion activities in the U.S.A.. The Jerusalem Post reprints the AP report on this move.

Seeing that Obama worshiped in a Sunni Mosque as a boy, and seeing that his whole family is Sunni, according to his sister Maya, this attempted seizure will only inflame the Islamic world with internecine strife.

Though other news outlets, such as CBS, are reporting these events, the Associated Press, after the gaff last month of being associated with a report which named Obama as Kenyan-Born, has evidently considered it their duty to be extra-devout in running cover for Obama on the Islamic issue.

What’s really being defend here, though, is not National Security, but rather Obama’s rapidly declining poll numbers.

To belittle the horrific nature of the Ft. Hood Massacre, to deny its association with the authentic nature of Islam, and to play games with issues of National Security to defend your political image, all indicate that Obama, having usurped the Presidency for his own power and glory, uses his pretense of authority for his own power and glory.

Glory? This man has no glory. He has no power. He certainly has no power over me.

Out Magazine won’t be publishing its annual list of the “most interesting, influential and newsworthy LGBT people” of the year until Monday, but a leaked photo of its December/January cover has revealed that singer Adam Lambert and movie director Rob Marshall will be so honored. Meanwhile, the magazine’s website, which has been citing other Out 100 honorees, recently announced that playwright Tony Kushner also made the cut.

The leaked photo, which can be seen here, features not only Lambert and Marshall, but Wanda Sykes, Cyndi Lauper and Lt. Dan Choi on the magazine cover and lists Neil Patrick Harris as also making the top 100.

Adam Lambert, a former musical theatre performer who had starred in the touring production of Wicked, shot to stardom on the eighth season on “American Idol,” placing second in the reality TV singing competition.  His debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” drops Nov. 23.

Rob Marshall got his start dancing on Broadway before moving on to choreographing and directing musicals, receiving six Tony nominations for his work in such shows as Kiss of the Spider Woman and Damn Yankees.  He gained further acclaim as director of the movie adaptation of Chicago, which went on to win six Academy Awards.  Marshall’s newest movie, a film version of the musical Nine, opens Dec. 18.
