Unnamed officials supply yet more fodder for speculation. Folk finally begin to make a Vietnam parallel months after that was obvious. The President bides time wisely. Patience was a virtue once. Now? Instant gratification has turned into instant condemnation.

Huffington Post should consider the extent it wishes to rely on unnamed sources, given its faulty prescience about the President in the past.

Ok, we are here in the holiday house. Mostly quite nice now that the Southerly has hit. It came through at 2am and it was one of those occassions when I really didn’t mind being woken up!  It was huge, so loud in the trees, pieces breaking off and striking the house. I’m very conscious of how close that giant tree is … but I didn’t let that stop me revelling in the cool. Even needed a sheet on the bed after that!

Owner read her messages on her mobile this morning, rang us, came to visit, acted all sympathetic, tried to say we’d tried to contact her the wrong way (apparantly she’s a business woman who takes chunks off money off people for a service and then doesn’t even check her mobile). She swanned off and rang back saying an electrician would be out this afternoon. They did arrive, nice people, fixed the broken ceiling fan and said the aircon unit is dead. That’s ok, we’ll stay so long as it’s cool. It’s predicted to be cool for a few days so I’m relieved to say I can enjoy my holiday for a few days at least.

What else you say? The spa bath has a major league leak. When we turned it on it sprayed all over the electrical housing.

President Barack Obama is returning from his trek to Asia Thursday to a capital that is a considerably more dangerous place for him than when he departed.

While he was abroad, there was a palpable sense at home of something gone wrong

A critical mass of influential people who once held big hopes for his presidency began to wonder whether they had misjudged the man. Most significant, these doubters now find themselves with a new reluctance to defend Obama at a phase of his presidency when he needs defenders more urgently than ever.

This is the price Obama has paid with his complicity and most likely his active participation, in the shabbiest episode of his presidency: The firing by leaks of White House counsel Gregory Craig, a well-respected Washington veteran and influential early supporter of Obama.

The people who are most aghast by the handling of the Craig departure can’t be dismissed by the White House as Republican partisans, or still-embittered Hillary Clinton supporters. They are not naïve activists who don’t understand that the exercise of power can be a rough business and that trade-offs and personal disappointments are inevitable. Instead, they are people, either in politics or close observers, who once held an unromantically high opinion of Obama. They were important to his rise, and are likely more important to the success or failure of his presidency than Obama or his distressingly insular and small-minded West Wing team appreciate.

The Craig embarrassment gives these people a new reason – not the first or only reason – to conclude that he wasn’t the person of integrity and even classiness they had thought, and, more fundamentally, that his ability to move people and actually lead a fractured and troubled country (the reason many preferred him over Hillary Clinton) is not what had been promised in the campaign.

Craig’s ouster did not occur in a vacuum. It served as a focal point to concerns that have been building for months that Obama wasn’t pressing for all that might be possible within the existing political constraints (all that one could ask of a president); that his presidential voice hadn’t fulfilled the hopes raised by his campaign voice (which had also taken him a while to find); that he hadn’t created a movement, as he had raised expectations that he would; that would be there to back him up and help him fulfill his promises.

This is the quote that the President gave to CNN about the recent leaks to the press about the situation in Afghanistan.  President Obama says that these offences are the type that somebody will be fired for.  That the people in the room should have the right to speak freely without fear that their words will end up on the cover of the New York Times, and I absolutely agree.  Now look this is a conflict that our nation has been in for too long.  Yes we need to protect ourselves from terrorist threats, but why can’t we do that with better border security and tighter screenings at air ports, as opposed to fighting a unilateral war that doesn’t seem to have an end and an aim.  I am thankful that we have a president using his duty as commander and chief to get my friends out of harms way, especially since I can’t see what they are over there for, we got the mastermind of 9/11, we got those who helped the hijackers.  I know we don’t have Osama Bin Laden, but we don’t need to continue in a war to get him.  President Obama is doing what he promised, bringing our troops home.  He’s just making sure that we are doing what it takes to protect our allies, but he’s not giving them an open-ended commitment.  I’m thankful for that, especially because the writing is on the wall in respects to Iran, and North Korea, and we wouldn’t have the man power for a three front war.

Suggestion:…Next time don’t make a decision on something this important..then jet off someplace on the other side of the planet  for week and expect no leaks….you work in Washington D.C…the place leaks like a sieve……
