Look!  Fo0d for my garden…lovely leaves destined to be shredded and put down as much.  To break down into lovely healthy soil for next year’s garden.

Yep…you know you’re a gardener when you are thrilled by plastic bags full of leaves!

For south Indians, tamarind is a must for making sambar. Locallly called puli (L as in lion, if L is pronounced lightly as in love, it means tiger!), it is extensively used in pulisatham, rice mixed with tamarind, in travels, as it remains fresh for two or three days.

Some chemical in tamarind dissolves excess fluoride in the bones and allows it to pass through urine, according to today’s Indian Express!

Salt obtained from the sea (containing iodine, calcium, potassium etc. in traces), turmeric, asafoetida, curry leaves, green dhanya leaves, green chillis, mint leaves, lemon, curd etc., routinely used by Indians, are all healthy food ingredients.

The weather’s changed. Autumn has finally given way to winter. The temperature has plummeted, the trees have stripped themselves of leaves and things have started turning nasty. So I thought I’d post a pic or two of a lovely autumn walk we did a couple of weeks ago.

I am almost done weathering the vehicle, some dusting, rain marks and wet effects are left. I also have to finish the base, I am not too convinced with my groundwork, seems a bit out of scale but hopefully the laser cut leaves will bring it all together/hide the bad parts. Then it is a matter of finishing the driver figure.

in the middle of nowhere, I was before

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an installation that has actually interested me, not purely aesthetically but thought-provokingly. luzinterruptus art collective have come up with some clever as well as beautiful urban interventions, more than once, mostly in Madrid. I wish I could see this last one in person and maybe roll around in it, but alas the photos will have to suffice.

Another gray day yesterday at my mom’s, but at least I got this photo I’m pleased with:

Colorful leaf

Heavy rain in the night & all this morning. Finer & windless this afternoon. Everything very sodden. Dug another trench. Have now almost finished the amount I intend doing of the new bit. Stuck in 2 more briar roots. Shall plant about 6 of different heights & see how they do. Collected another sack of leaves. This amount (about 10 sacks) fills the frame. Covered over with fine soil & shall not disturb till next year.

It is no secret that Coke’s 1886 “brain tonic” recipe called for cocaine. However, it’s not widely known that Coke still uses the coca leaf in their secret recipe.  There is only one company legally permitted to import coca leaves into the United States, the Stepan Company of Illinois.

Coca Leaves

Stepan uses the coca leaf to produce pure cocaine for medical use and a non-narcotic ingredient that Coca-Cola uses to flavor Coke.  Most of the coca leaves are imported from Peru, and The Washington Times has reported that 100 tons are imported per year.
