ok, just rented this movie last night and i was tentative whether i’d actually review this piece of crap movie.  actually the only reason i watched it in the first place was on a recommendation from my buddy darcy who said “it’s pretty good so far” to which i initially replied “have you even finished the opening credits yet?”.  i should have stood fast to my gut feeling because this is one of the kinds of movies that makes you say – i can become a millionaire making movies!  why?  because i sure enough can make better sh*t than this

i have to say i’m usually a fan of martial art type movies and couple that with my smallville crush kristin kreuk and terminator: salvation’s sexy moon bloodgood, you’d think it might not be half bad.  well i guess i was right…it was half bad.  and the other half was bad too.  essentially making a whole bad movie.  so what makes this so bad?  great question!  streetfighter is based on the video game of the same name but focuses on chun-li (kruek’s character) whose  father is kidnapped for some unknown (but by the end of the movie turns out to be lame) reason by bad-ass kingpin of crime (neal mcdonough).  we follow chun-li as she eventually finds gen (robin shou) who teaches her a save this until you’re almost dead defeated then use it kung fu stuff that will help her defeat bad guys.

so where does moongood fit in?  unfortunately with can’t overact his way out of a paper bag chris klein from american pie shame fame.  this unnecessary subplot involves klein and moongood playing investigators looking for the bad guy who took out the crime syndicate heads in bangkok.  they also have this sexual tension that i think is there to spice up an otherwise very g-rated movie.  it doesn’t work.

in my opinion, all the characters are played too over the top with the unfortunate exception of kreuk who underplayed her character so much that it made chun-li boring and unbelievable as a heroine.  there was some interesting fight scenes but not enough to warrant any type of recommendation.  overall i give this movie 1 kick to the balls out of 5.   it would’ve got zero but moongood had a good wardrobe throughout the movie

Bem, parece que as críticas especializadas para o novo filme de Street Fighter: The legendo f Chun-Li não ofereceram uma boa nota para o filme.

Os críticos de diversos sites falaram poucas e boas do filme. Na verdade, boas não tem quase nada. Mandaram o pau firme mesmo no longa-metragem. No caso, o filme estrela por Kristin Kreuk, Chris Klein e Michael Clarke Duncan atingiu uma Metacrítica de 21, sendo que o máximo seria 100. Metacrítica funciona de uma forma que diversas pessoas realizam críticas sobre o filme e é feita uma média disso.

Para adicionar, vale informar que todas as críticas do filme foram negativas. Algumas falam da horrível atuação de alguns atores, da falta de carisma e até comparam com o antigo filme estrelado por Jean-Claude Van Damme em 1994. Além do que, houve um comentário do Entertainment Weekly, dizendo que o filme nem ao menos conseguiu ser memoravelmente ruim.

De fato, uma notícia ruim para os fãs. Ainda bem que para suprir toda essa balbúrdia de um filme aparentemente horrível, temos o lançamento de Street Fighter IV que chegou esses dias e é um excelente game!

Em relação a filmes, vamos esperar que a Capcom acerte na adaptação de Lost Planet.

Kristin Kreuk’s latest starrer apparently sucked so bad, it scored a 00% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Critics even compare it to Uwe Boll’s works.

Blogger Carlo Ople also reports from Eastwood that,  “According to the cashier, the movie was a gigantic flop, and that there was a screening which had less than 5 people.”

Hari ni nak cerita pasal peristiwa semalam yang mana aku telah pulang ke rumah dalam pukul 12.40 tengah malam bersama kawan-kawan aku..Haha..Skema gler ayat.

Oklah, pagi semalam aku bangun2 subuh, aku ternampak satu kotak hP NOkia baru, tapi aku buat bodoh la..Pastu sebelum aku keluar tu, mak tanya..”Yan, nak pakai hp x?”..Lalu aku pun terus amek hP Nokia baru tu menjadi milik aku..hahaha..tayah cakap la model ape..murah je..

Ok..Dalam pukul 11pagi camtu, kitorang mula bertolak ke Pulau Pinang melalui jambatan.Yang pergi sekali semalam, aku, arip, akhtar, khairi syafiq, dengan Nafis.

Keadaan trafik agak sesak di situ. Tapi aku naik moto dengan khairi Syafiq, dia bawak moto laju giler..mencelah kereta sana sini..aku dok belakang dia berzikir aje lah..

Pastu, tunggu la diorang kejap..Sekali tayar motor nafis pecah lak..Kejap je repair..Ada mekanik datang..Pastu terus la..

Dalam pukul 12.30 baru sampai Penang International Sports Arena(PISA)..tempat TheStar Education Fair tu. Ronda2 sambil mengumpul maklumat dan mengumpul ‘GOODIE BAG” sampai dalam kul 3.30. Lepas tu teruskan perjalanan ke..

QUEENSBAY MALL..kat situ makan2..tengok movie cerita Street Fighter Legend of Chunli..Lepas Asar sampai pukul 7.

Sementara nak tunggu Maghrib tu, kitorang pegi “Travel Fair” plak kat luar Queensbay tu. Macam2 la jugak ada. Pakej2 percutian..Tapi dalam negara punya la. Aku ingatkan luar negara..Ceh..haha.

Malam tu plak, kitorang round batu feringghi sampai  pukul 11 malam.Round2 tengok2 pasar kat situ. Macam2 cd cetak rompak ade..yang tak keluar panggung pun dah keluar..haha.. Lepas tu tunggu feri..(part paling lama) dekat sejam..

Kul 12.40 tengah malam baru aku sampai rumah..Balik2 terus online sampai SuBuh..hahaha..

Chun Li Movie

I’ve been avoiding previewing this movie. Chun-Li is a character that’s near and dear to my heart, and to see such terrible things done in her name makes me feel like I’m being stabbed. My sister and I would fight over who got to be her while playing Street Fighter 2, because, well the roster was pretty thin and she was the only girl. It also didn’t escape my notice that Chun Li was essential to beating my cousin’s Ryu.

Either way, the movie’s out this week, and I would be remiss if I didn’t end up previewing it at all, simply because you have to chronicle the good and the bad or history is doomed to repeat itself.

So let’s all take a deep breath, down a Xanax and go.

The first sign that something was wrong with the movie came when Kristin Kreuk was cast as Chun-Li. Despite being half Chinese, she doesn’t look a thing like the character and she’s so skinny I doubt she could string together more than three kicks (much less 100).

Either way, her acting looks extremely one-note in the trailer. What about the happy girl who would leap up and down, shouting, “Yatta!” and flashing a V-for-Victory sign whenever she finished pounding you into the pavement? Save the ice queen attitude for a Soul Calibur movie.

Little did I know, her problematic casting was only the tip of the iceberg.

After watching the trailer, I went straight to the movie’s IMDB page because I had no idea what characters were supposed to be in the movie. The only clear cut one was Vega, and that’s because you’d have to be blind to miss the mask and claws. Robin Shou is far too young to be Gen. Michael Clarke Duncan seems to be the only man capable of filling the role of “Enormous Fighting Antagonist”, so I wasn’t too surprised he was Balrog. But Neal McDonough as M. Bison? I can’t think of anyone who looks less like the intimidating megalomaniac.

Seriously. Does it look like he could fly in a headfirst corkscrew at an opponent?

Aside from Chun-Li firing off a kikouken fireball at the end of the trailer, there’s absolutely nothing in the trailer that connects the movie to the Street Fighter games. For a movie professing to tell “The Legend of Chun-Li”, there’s no hint of a plot besides “do what’s right.” We see tons of guns (weapons? Please.), generic fighting that could be attached to any other action movie and no attempts at staging any of the other characters’ signature moves. I’m also guessing the trailer is so short (1:30 as opposed to 2 minutes) because they’ve already used up all of their best shots.

There’s no marketing around this movie, aside from releasing it around the same time that the venerated, highly anticipated Street Fighter IV video game is being released. In fact, it’s not even being screened for critics, and with that, the surest nail in the coffin has been driven home.

Skip the movie. Just watch this video instead. I have a feeling it’s closer to the actual game than <i>Chun-Li</i>, and five times as entertaining.

If you must watch something, go watch the abominable 1994 Street Fighter movie. At least it has Ming Na Wen, who actually looks Chinese.

So I’ve done some reading, and I’ve found out there will be no Ken and Ryu, none of that old street fighter goodness. They are very strict about seperating the movie from the game, and setting a foundation for characters, or so I’ve been told. It’s safe to say they dabble in Bison(Vega) and Chun Li(Obviously) but that’s about the only thing they get into. We’ve got some talent from smallville on set, but you’ve got to remember that was mainstream television oohs and aahs – can this person really make a movie? Probably not. Llana cannot kick ass. It would have been smart to maybe start with Ken and Ryu’s history and foundation, with some Gouken and young Gouki – but they didn’t really call on any true aficionados to make the film. Lets just hope they don’t screw it up!

While cringing at the big pile of suck that the new Street Fighter movie appears to be, I saw one video that sealed it as a MUST-watch, and no, it’s not Kirsten Kreuk in a Chun Li outfit – it’s Singapore’s very own Tom Cruise, Edmund Chen Zhicai!  Check him out in this fight scene where he pulls out all the stops to protect his young daughter, Chun Li (a child actress resembling Kreuk), from the evil clutches of M. Bison (Michael Clarke Duncan).  Most impressive is Chen’s inventive use of the steel fridge and an unpopped champagne bottle to defend himself!  Video here – watch it before they pull the clips offline.  The movie is generating some serious criticism from the internets, but I will catch it just to support another Singaporean actor making it in Hollywood.  What a great year for Singaporean actors – first Chin Han in The Dark Knight, and now Edmund Chen kicking Michael Clarke Duncan’s ass!  Some screenshots:

Acabei de ver no Kotaku que a Fox não vai passar o Legend of Chun-Li para os críticos. Isso assina de vez a minha teoria de que o filme é podre demais. Não que eu dê muita bola ao que os críticos têm a dizer, mas quando essa prática é utilizada, significa que o estúdio não quer que o filme seja destruído antes de entrar em cartaz. Ou seja o filme realmente é ruim. 

É a vida! Quem sabe daqui a alguns séculos tenhamos um bom filme de Street Fighter. O poster oficial e o site do filme também não são lá estas coisas…
