There is much I love about Lord of the Rings Online. The setting, the graphics. That’s all awesome but I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to see changed or added on. First off the user interface is ugly and even downloading a new UI doesn’t help all the way because you can’t change the very ugly icons. I don’t know why its been coded this way or what but why won’t Turbine allow someone to come up with prettier icons. I remember downloading the very nice icons for EQ1 from the eq interface site and it just changing the general look by about 200%. I’d like to see more 3-man instances with more rewards. It could even be entire sets of gear that is just for looks. That way you wouldn’t even have to worry about balance and what not. More crafted items for player houses and yards, more outfits for more originality amongst the players. Add more facial features, new noses, scars, missing eye, jewelry, piercings, beards and allow the barbers to give nose jobs. I’ve decided I want the bigger dwarf nose for Beowyf! It’s more dwarfy! Currently he has the broken nose look. A lot of what I’d like to see is just more options. More options for player looks, more options for player play. I’d like to see when you forge a level 65 Legendary Item, or identify it you can choose between 5 different styles. Instead of being stuck with generic lvl 65 1-hand hammer look. Beowyf wants a hammer that looks like Mjolnir to smash his foes! Turbine make it so. MMO Viking gives you until Rohan to make these changes.

The label, founded by Eddie Piller and Gilles Peterson back in 1988, became a buzz word in itself and provided a welcome antidote to the bleeps of acid house that swept all asunder in late ’80s clubland. Artists like Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Galliano, Terry Callier, Paul Weller, JTQ, Corduroy, A Man Called Adam and a whole host of others found a natural home at the indie label that pushed back the musical boundaries

The birthday party, hosted by Eddie Piller features dj sets from some of the best dj’s associated with the label’s long and varied history, including Chris Bangs, Ali B, Snowboy, Dean Rudland and Andy Lewis playing a mix of Jazz, Soul, Beats, Funk and Northern + a hip shaking live set of soul, jazz and funk from The Filthy Six.

Expect a spectacular one-off!

VERDICT:
9/10 Jump-To-Conclusions Mats

Was hilarious before I graduated college and stepped into “the real world”, and now that I’m there…still can’t believe how it true it all is.

Office Space is about a guy who’s girlfriend is probably cheating on him, who hates his bullshit job pushing paper at a software programming company, Initech, who is nonetheless worried about getting fired, and who does absolutely nothing to change his circumstances. Then one day he goes to a hypnotist who sends him into a state of perpetual nirvana, thus prompting this former dull bastard to stop taking orders and do whatever the hell he wants instead.

This is the story of Peter Gibbons – a god among men.

Was planning to post this one on a Monday as a nod to the whole “Looks like someone’s got a case of the Mondays” thing, but, folks, I couldn’t help myself. It’s been a long week.

I was tempted to give this movie an 8 out of 10 for a while there, then it occurred to me that this was and always will be the be-all-end-all satire of corporate America. There’s simply no point in trying to one-up this because no one will ever say it better. Sorry, screenwriters, but this one’s a losing battle.

It’s pretty self-explanatory why this movie works as well as it does, pretty much because work environments like that at Initech are more or less a joke in themselves. And considering that everyone has worked a shitty job in their life, whether it be in an cubicle or otherwise, even if you can’t exactly go “That’s what I’m talkin‘ about!” when Peter and his buddies murder the office printer/copier, you’ll get it and you will laugh.

The writing here is just so damn good and quotable and original, especially for a comedy. It’s not lewd and it doesn’t go for shock value, but rather it cashes in on being painfully observant, has a great cast of characters, and has a slew of freakin’ classic running gags, most of which can be summed up in two words…

Michael Bolton.

And even though this is probably one of the best things Jennifer Aniston’s ever done with her life as Peter’s love interest, I can’t help but totally dig when a cast of unknowns like this works so well. Ron Livingston is great as Peter, Diedrich Bader has some choice lines as Peter’s next-door neighbor, Gary Cole is a rip as Peter’s boss, Lumbergh, and of course I have to give it up to Stephen Root as Milton. Can’t forget Milton – the one and only reason anyone gives a damn about red Swingline staplers. The only backfire here is that, with the exception of Jennifer, this cast will never escape these characters for as long as they live. Might not be the worst thing in the world considering how awesome this movie is, but still, I can imagine how being “That guy from Office Space” could get old quick, let alone being called “Milton!” at every casting call you show up to.

Man, I could go on about this movie, but it’s one of those things that’s actually better to just quote about with friends rather than break down to a science. With that being said, feel free to leave comments on your favorite parts, let’s get a good little discussion going here, m’kay? Great.

Whenever I talk about the guy, my uncle/fellow movie buff always calls Mike Judge “a comic genius”, and while that’s a pretty epic statement, I’ve gotta agree with him. Even if Office Space were the only credit to his career, had Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill never even been created, I think the statement would still stand. Usually after groundbreaking comedies like this come out, there is inevitably an absurd amount of horribly sub-par knock-offs that try to capture that same magic in the following years. Maybe it’s because it was a box office dud when it was out in theaters, but time has been more than kind to this movie since and there still hasn’t been any competition.

When you make something so good that no one even tries to copy it just because they know they can’t, that, my friend, is the mark of genius.

Have a nice weekend, everyone, and don’t forget to show her your “O” face.

Now since this is the PTR I’m sure it’s just an oversight and we can expect to see Hunter added to that list. If not I may have to get in touch with Mr. T and see how good his WoW hacking skills really are.

Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008)
★★★★ / ★★★★

Over the years I’ve grown to love the fashion industry so watching this documentary about the legendary Valentino Garavani was a real treat. I was fascinated with watching him handle situations when people did not quite reach his vision. That frustration sometimes ended up in heated arguments and sometimes they ended up with a joke or a simple snide remark. The passion Valentino had about fashion sometimes took its toll with the people around him, especially his long-time business partner and lover Giancarlo Giametti, but if it weren’t for his persistence and perfectionist nature, his creations would not have been the same. I liked that Matt Tyrnauer, the director, took some of the picture’s time to go back into the past and tell his audiences where Valentino came from and how he met some of the most influential people in his life. I was so engaged when the legendary designer talked about the many inspirations he had from films and movie stars when he was around thirteen years old. And when asked by a reporter if he dreamed about being anything else other than designing for women’s clothing, there was something brilliant and amusing with the way he said his one-word answer. I’m glad that this documentary didn’t quite focus on all of Valentino’s accomplishments (although I wouldn’t mind watching that documentary if one decided to take on the project). The majority of it was about his final couture show, which was beyond extravagant, and the media’s ever-annoying questions on when he would finally retire. I’ve seen a few runways and shows but nothing comes close to the elegance of his models, the ravishing sets, and the inspired clothings. Every image of the film looked like candy I wanted to touch and relish. “Valentino: The Last Emperor” would most likely not reach the mainstream because it’s geared more toward fashionistas. However, if one is generally interested in beauty, or even better, the passion and effort to make something beyond exquisite and divine, this is definitely the one to see.

Simple post this is. Rakim is a freaking legend, if you don’t know, you better get down son! He’s been rapping longer than most of you have graced this planet, but it’s the spiritual substance in his verses that has elevated him to hall of fame status. He keeps it hood so that he can speak to the hoods about everything that’s not hood. Peep the following 3 tracks off his upcoming album The Seventh Seal, that’s an Islamic reference, Google it!

Fan of TNA Wrestling? Fan of video games? Worried what would happen to the TNA video game license with Midway’s demise? Well, worry some more.

From that awesome game blog site, Destructoid.com:

In its financial report, SouthPeak Interactive revealed that it had acquired “certain assets” from Midway relating to the TNA iMPACT wrestling brand. Already announced are two games that will be released next year — TNA iMPACT: Cross the Line for PlayStation Portable/PSPgo and Nintendo DS.

The good news, there will be a TNA video in 2010. The bad news, it’s for the PSP and the DS. The even worse news, it’s being made by SouthPeak Games. SouthPeak… eww!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with SouthPeak, think your lucky stars. They’re notorious for making really shitty games. Shitty games like… Two Worlds and Legendary, to only bore you with two. I’m almost giddy with anticipation to see what kind of abomination these guys at SouthPeak can cook up for a TNA game. It’s gonna be epic. Congrats TNA!

And no, that isn’t a screenshot from the PSP or DS game being made by this horrible, horrible company. That’s from the TNA game for the iPhone/iTouch, which is actually decent.

Historical Impressions were inserts that could be pulled from boxes of 2003 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts. With a hobby filled with manufactured letter patches, I’m really surprised this concept didn’t stick around. As you can see these cards feature a rubber stamp containing a facsimile cut signature. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather pull one of these from a pack instead of a letter patch of some no name rookie. Back in 2003 I pulled one of Mickey Cochrane, but it has since moved to a new home. I’ve always thought these looked cool and are great for those people that can’t afford a real cut signature for their collection. Most of them are serial numbered to 350 copies, but you can find parallels limited to fewer numbers. I say bring these back and ad in a few relics to them.

Srirangapatana Fort is a splendid architectural marvel which stands tall cheating time. It was believed that Tipu Sultan used this fort to prepare rockets and missiles against the British. For this reason the fort has gained great importance in history of Indian war of independence. The historical importance of this fort doesn’t end there. It was here Tipu Sultan was finally defeated by the British, betrayed by his own people. The legendary sword of Tipu was seized from him and he was brutally killed. Today it is a good tourist destination. There is a mosques and a temple, the Sri Rangaswami temple is a huge with an impressive gopuram or dome and a fort like wall. The fort is located 15 kms from Mysore in Karnataka.

Mysore and Bangalore airport are the nearest one. Mysore railway station is the nesrest one to Srirangapatana Fort. There are several hotels and resorts in Mysore for tourists to stay and enjoy their sightseeing.
