I went to American Apparel today to get the last of a few items I need for my trip. I love their cotton spandex leggings that only go down to my calves for practicing yoga and also got a few more tank tops.  I also went to Nature Mart to get a few snacks for the plane ride: Barbara’s Wheatines (like Saltines, except they’re made of whole wheat) and some Sea Chips (made of several types of seaweed)…I hope these chips don’t have an offensive smell–guess I’ll find out!

My Growing Pile to Pack!

My mind is already in Bali…sitting by the pool in my bathing suit, enjoying the warm rays of the sun with my oversized sunglasses and a big smile on my face, and thinking ‘I made it!’. Now my body just needs to catch up! :)

Had the most wonderful Thanksgiving feast at my parents’ place yesterday. Best of all, it was a stunningly gorgeous day, so after our meal I shared an hour or so on the front porch with my mom–soaking in the sun and letting the day slowly fade away. Mom goes all-out in the holiday decorating department, and I loved how the sun sparkled through one of the snowflakes she’d hung so much that I had to capture it on my iPhone:

Of course, we know that Thanksgiving is followed by Black Friday which marks the unofficial start of the winter season. If you live in a climate like we do here in Dallas, you know you’re not going to see real snowflakes for a while…maybe not until January (if at all!).

But that doesn’t mean we don’t think about the chill in the air and the crispness of winter and the thrill of seeing the first snowflakes of the season. I say we enjoy the thought now while it’s still fresh and clean and sparkly!

How about some ideas inspired by snowflakes? Don’t you love the crystalline facets?

I love how these tie-dyed leggings from Plan B capture the faceted look in a unique way (kinda like a snowflake, right? No two tie-dyes are ever the same!).

It wouldn’t be the holidays without sweaters and cozy wraps, and I know what you’re thinking. I’m not talking the jingle-bellish, snowman infested Rudolph sweaters (but if that’s your desire, take a look at this site, where you can design your own tchotchke-d up holiday sweater!).

Look at these luscious crocheted pieces. I’m inspired by very open stitches this season. They are perfect for layering over bold or tonal colors, and even prints:

Il Lohan style, stroncato dalla critica, amato dalla gente

Quando nel settembre scorso i suoi abiti sfilarono in passerella, fu un disastro. Lindsay Lohan ci aveva messo tutta la sua creatività per firmare una linea di moda legata alla maison Emanuel Ungaro, ma la critica fu spietata. La Bibbia dello stile “Women’s Wear Daily” la definì “imbarazzante”. Anche il fondatore della società Emanuel Ungaro la sconfessò definendo la collezione “una catastrofe”. Eppure la gente ha dato ragione a LiLo. 

Gli abiti dell’attrice, novella stilista, sono piaciuti. Nei negozi in cui sono stati messi in vendita sono andati a ruba. Ungaro non è più partner della Lohan, ora è legata alla Moufarrige. Il presidente Mounir ha dichiarato alla Reuters: “Continuerà a disegnare per noi, farà una nuova collezione. La critica è stata dura, certo, cercherà di fare ancora di più, ma i vestiti si vendono bene, le donne hanno gradito, molto”. Il Lohan Style avrà pure fatto storcere il naso agli esperti del settore, ma ha fatto bingo. E i soldi sono il motore del mondo. LiLo avrà un’altra chance nel mondo un po’ snob della moda.

Rihanna: ‘Se non mandate le foto osé ai vostri ragazzi, mi sento male per loro’

Alcune ragazze, prese dalla passione, si lasciano immortalare senza veli e donano le foto a colui che ritengono, in quel momento, l’uomo della loro vita. Peccato che nell’epoca di internet siano molti i casi in cui, quando la storia finisce, queste stesse ragazze si ritrovano a dover fare i conti con delle immagini osé sparse per il web. Rihanna è una di queste ma difende a spada tratta la decisione delle donne di spedire ai propri uomini scatti che le ritraggono nude.  La pop-star, pochi mesi dopo l’aggressione subita da parte di Chris Brown a febbraio, ha visto circolare in rete degli scatti che la ritraevano in pose esplicite, per la precisione, degli autoscatti sexy dedicati alla sua dolce metà. Nonostante ciò, la cantante pensa che ogni ragazza dovrebbe mandare al suo amato delle foto piccanti. Rihanna è stata mortificata quando alcune sue immagini osé sono finite su internet ma dopo un iniziale imbarazzo, ha realizzato che non fosse un gran problema: “Se non mandi delle foto al tuo ragazzo, io mi sento male per lui. Quando è successo, ho spedito dei fiori a mia madre e poi l’ho chiamata. Per fortuna, quando tutto il mondo è contro di me, lei mi sostiene sempre”. Certo, Rihanna non ha preso bene l’episodio e durante un’intervista radiofonica all’emittente americana Hot 97 ha raccontato: “Ho sentito violata la mia privacy e poi, quando è venuto fuori, ho detto: ‘Oh, grande! Così ora non c’è nulla che non sappiate di me e della mia vita privata’. E’ stato molto imbarazzante”. Ma la colpa, secondo la star della musica, non è delle ragazze che accontentano i loro amori. Anzi… 

Amy Winehouse dopo le tette, i denti e il lato B, ora vuole un naso nuovo

Dopo il ritocco al seno, la soul-diva britannica Amy Winehouse pensa a rifarsi il naso. La cantante, che ha sorpreso tutti i suoi fan passando dalla seconda alla quarta, sembra proprio caduta nella rete delle operazioni di chirurgia estetica, scrive il tabloid Daily Mirror.  Secondo il solito ‘insider’: “Da quando si è rifatta il seno, è ossessionata dalla chirurgia estetica. Dopo il lato B e i denti, vuole un naso più piccolo, che sia più adeguato al suo viso magro. Odia il fatto che il suo naso sia così grosso e non le piace neanche la forma”.  E non è tutto. Sembra che la trasgressiva Amy abbia in mente anche di rivedere il suo posteriore e forse le labbra: “Vuole che tutto sia in armonia con il nuovo seno”, ha spiegato la fonte.

 

‘New Moon’, è sempre giallo sulla love story Pattinson – Stewart

Il re dei talkshow David Letterman ha dedicato al bellissimo Robert Pattinson-Edward Cullen un’intera puntata del suo programma, mentre la timida e algida Kristen Stewart-Bella Swann si è cimentata al ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’.  Resta ancora un giallo, comunque, la presunta relazione amorosa fra i due, declamata ormai da mesi dai tabloid e mai smentita con sufficiente convinzione dagli attori. Lo stesso Letterman ha provato a fare chiarezza sulla vicenda con l’ospite Pattinson, mostrandogli l’ultima sexy-copertina di ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ che lo ritrae insieme alla collega Kristen. “Uscite insieme, giusto?” ha chiesto il presentatore del ‘Late Show’. “Sono stato così criptico proprio per evitare la questione durante l’intero…” ha iniziato a dire Rob il vampiro, che sembrava realmente intenzionato a svelare il mistero quando Letterman l’ha interrotto dicendogli che poteva evitare di rispondere.  Lutto per il mondo del gossip. Per il resto, Pattinson – raggiante in completo nero e camicia celeste – si è dilungato sulle sue vicissitudini con le fan adoranti raccontando di un recente episodio in Spagna, dove una ragazza si è appostata fuori dall’appartamento in cui l’attore alloggiava durante le riprese del film ‘Little Ashes’ per tre intere settimane. Un giorno Pattinson si sentiva particolarmente solo e le ha chiesto di uscire. Lei allora l’ha portato a cena nel ristorante dei genitori. “Mi sono lamentato di tutta la mia vita per due ore circa, lei mi ha presentato il conto e poi non si è più fatta vedere” ha raccontato l’attore ridendo.  

Nessun elemento di novità sulla lovestory con Kristen è emerso durante lo spettacolo di Jimmy Fallon, che si è limitato a corteggiare l’attrice – in abito sottoveste nero e capelli raccolti – per l’intera durata dell’intervista. La stessa Kristen, ospite nel programma tv mattutino di Martha Stewart era già stata portata sull’argomento, invano. Stewart riferiva di aver sognato che usciva con Robert e di avere pensato che era un ragazzo molto alla mano. Kristen si è limitata a commentare con un sorriso: “Avrei dovuto unirmi a voi”.

Moira Orfei e le banane indigeste

Moira Orfei ha fatto indigestione di banane!!! Per seguire una nuova dieta ha pranzato ingurgitandosene sei una dopo l’altra. L’effetto è stato devastante e la signora del circo ha trascorso un brutto quarto d’ora in ospedale…Povera Moira, restando sempre con gli animali, ha cominciato… a mangiare come loro…!

Il nuovo video ad alto tasso erotico di Beyoncè con Lady Gaga, in reggiseno e pistole? Fa rizzare quasi i capelli a Camilla Parker Bowles, duchessa di Cornovaglia, nonché moglie del principe del Galles Carlo, che lo definisce un “red gansgster che glorifica il sesso e la violenza”, modello comportamentale da cui la scuola inglese dovrebbe cercare di allontanare i ragazzi.
Da che pulpito arriva la predica! Lei che è diventata famosa prima per essere stata l’amante del Principe Carlo, nonostante questi fosse sposato con la bella e sfortunata Lady Diana. Poi per essersi riuscita ad imporre a corte, sposando il suo amato, nonostante l’opposizione di sua Maestà la Regina Elisabetta. Some people think I’m nutters when it comes to throwing a thematic soiree.  Clearly, I don’t hang with these people.  My friends, however, enjoy that the fact that as a partygirl since my tweens, I have experience setting the mood for an OOC party that delivers on many counts such as a) creativity, b) original party venue, c) cohesive fashionistah dress code, and d) follow through on party hype. 

The first event of to kick off the festive holiday season is a Rockstar Karaoke party where guests will summon up the courage after a few rounds of  liquid danger (aka vodka) to belt out power ballads in front of strangers.  I have persuaded friends to arrive at The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen St. West) dripping in Queen West West Sequins meets Hipster Rockstar.  What does this look like, pray tell? 

My imagination runs wild.  Allow me to style this outfit to life…

  • Black Sequin Blazer or Sequin leggings – Pick your poison but you can only have one.  Just like I would never advise double-denim.  Seriously offensive if you double dip.  While the sequin blazer is the hottest thing with jeans or leggings, the version by LaRok has a tailored fit and tuxedo styling.  I have been trying to persuade girls with twigs for legs to buy a pair of sequin leggings.  Let’s save this trend for the SB’s (skinny bitches) we love.  Both are stunning evening looks.

  • Rockstar Jewellery – Your tour stylist would pull multi-chain necklaces or chunky gold links.  If you’re on stage, you must think about the glow you will cast as you belt out tunes. Anything reminiscent of a disco-ball is the right direction.  I am loving these RJ Graziano bracelets with the crystal accents and lightning bolts.

  • Stud Accent Pumps – If you aren’t in line to become the next American Idol, keep the crowd distracted with your studded stilettos.  Nothing keeps the audience (or at least the girls) engaged like killer shoes.  And yeah, yeah, I’m obsessed with studs.

I refused to wear jeans eventhough the days are getting shorter and it’s getting colder. I haven’t worn any jeans yet (except denim leggings from Revolve clothing that I bought from SCOOP, NYC). I am too obsessed with leggings! When I was in UNIQLO, SOHO two weeks ago, I bought all their print leggings in every colour. I walked out with 8 pairs of leggings just from UNIQLO itself and I am not even embarrassed about it! I might have at least 25 pairs of leggings currently. I have all kinds of leggings like lace, sequin, printed, knit, harem, drop crotch, distress, ripped, on the knee, denim, liquid, metallic, leather, tulle, zipped, thermal etc). For fall 2009, I love to wear leggings with bulk plain knit oversize sweater/top or ruffle mini skirt (to cover my ass) and cardigan. I tried to avoid wearing leggings with dress or short /jeans (not my style, for now).

Anyway, since I spent too much time shopping for leggings, I just want to share with you my  top 10 leggings for FALL/WINTER. So,  instead of wearing solid leggings, upgrade your fashion taste with more textured leggings. Enjoy.

So, I have detailed what I wore. Jeans/cute top…dress/heels…Robin had similar stuff on.  But she is 5′10′ and all legs (“I can’t find jeans that are long enough!” b*tch!) and big boobs and glam. I looked like Troll Whore Barbie next to her.

Anyway, Miss Ashley wore leggings all weekend.  Leggings and shooties.  Leggings and boots.

Day/night.  Different ones, thank God.  But, leggings nonetheless.  I have weird ’80s flashbacks w/leggings. Make me want to do BIG bad things to my bangs (and spray them with the rock hard Sebastian hair spray – the smell of that stuff brings me way back)

Leggings also make me think of Tina and Hope. “What are you wearing?” “Leggings and a sweater!” “Cute but casual!”

Ash looks cute in them and most of the girlies in the under 30 crowd were wearing them with FMe pumps or shooties. Can’t pull the leggings look off anymore. And really don’t want to!!  Would feel like I was going to the gym (shudder! lol)…or make me all worried about having camel toe, kwim?  Oh, here’s a link to a ‘fix’ for the dreaded camel toe.  It’s called the ‘Cuchini’…it’ll be a lovely stocking stuffer this year, doncha think?
