Still, people are criticizing the PSP Go, due to its immensely huge price and lack of games. The words spoken by the widely popular game developer of Lego Star Wars Jon Burton were “The PSP Go is going to die.” That’s rough especially coming from someone with so much experience, so what is Sony going to do about this? Well Sony’s response was that during the first week of the PSP Go’s release, it had an uplift of 300% and the game downloads have also been large.

So what is Jon Burton talking about? Well… Gamers are starting to get angry because of the download feature, one gamer stated that if he bought it at Amazon, he could get games 20% cheaper and could resell them after finished. But with the download, they get no discount and are stuck with the game. It seems that gamers have spoken and we will have to wait and see what sony reveals.

This collection is a great set, lot s of unique pieces and good for both the child builder or the adult collector. you will have a great time building it and loves to play with it. It was a great learning opportunity as your child had to take apart a few things and rebuild them. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth every time you try to get your kid away from the game. No… really. This game is like crack for kids. I somewhat regret ever having bought it, but being able to sleep in on the weekends because the kid is playing this game does have its merits. Sure, I feel somewhat like a failed parent using Darth Vader to babysit my kid on Saturday mornings, but hey… Dr. Phil hasn’t called me yet.

“Father and Son unite”
The Father and Son I speak of are my own. This game was purchased originally for my grandson, but his dad loves playing it just as much as my grandson does. They sit down and take turns playing. It provides a good bonding time for them.

“Fun for all”
I don’t know how long I searched for a good game my children could play together. They are 5 and 11 and both love it! The co-op play is much better than others we have tried and besides they work together instead of trying to beat each other up. I would recommend this as one of best PS3 games we have so far. We also love Rachet and Clank but we have to take turns…

I’m taking a bit of a break from my super secret projects while they are on someone else’s desk. Huzzah! So now I’m onto more practical things like playing 3 hours of Lego Star Wars on the Wii. Yeah, not very productive but I just can’t say no to my nephew. He stumbles into my bedroom in the morning, throws open the door and somehow manages to speak the words, “Will you play Star Wars with me?” while narrowly avoiding a head on collision with my wall. I think we’d all hit fewer walls if our eyes were open a bit wider.

So. . . this afternoon while two of my nephews are going on a field trip with their preschool to a cheese factory, I will be reading Les Miserable until it’s time to meet a niece at her bus stop. She’s a big 1st grader, now.

Video games and consoles represent a huge chunk of holiday shopping every year and 2009 will be no different.  There’s probably never been a better selection of games available, with many manufacturers slashing prices for holiday bargain hunters.  If you’re a parent making your first foray into purchasing games and consoles, this posting will hopefully give you a little guidance.

Let’s start from scratch and discuss the three major video game systems out there.  Deciding which system is best for you will require some research as well as asking your kids what they prefer.  Sony’s Playstation 3  is our preferred favorite, if for no other reason than it offers the most features.  You can browse the web and use the console as a Blu-Ray disc player in addition to regular gaming capabilities, and at about $300 bucks, this is a great time to pick one up.  Xbox offers similar gaming features as the PS3 at a more reasonable price, as well as a ridiculous amount of hard drive space, perfect for those games that require a lot of memory.  And finally, Nintendo’s Wii  is the standard-bearer for the most interactive gaming experience available at a price cheaper than the PS3.  The Wii also offers the most gaming accessories, including the Wii Fit, which brings some exercise to the video game experience.

Now when it comes to games, most are available for each of the major gaming systems, with some exceptions of course.  If you’re shopping for kids, it’s important to pay attention to the ratings systems for video games, which dictate what ages that game is suitable for based on the game’s content.  Again, shop online and read reviews to learn the experiences of other parents who have purchased particular games that may feature violence and language.  With all that being said, here are our picks for the hottest video games for the 2009 holiday season:

I remember very well the childish hope as Christmas approached…hope that Santa would indeed fulfill that otherwise-unattainable wish…of a horse, a very expensive toy, [and later] a car.*  Still, I’m always amused with what the boys come up with.  Most notable this year is Kalen’s desire for this:

Yep, that’s the $400 Lego Death Star.  Never mind that he pretty much just plays with the Minifigs all the time & has no patience for building.  Actually, now that I look at the thing, he probably wants it simply for all the Minifigs that come with it.  (Bingo!  He just snuck up behind me, and I couldn’t Alt-Tab out in time.  He’s now rattling on about all the cool people that come with it.)

Nicolas’s best request this year is for Astro Boy, the new-to-theaters movie, on DVD.  When I informed him that it wouldn’t be available on DVD in time for Christmas, he said, “Well, Santa will just have to do it, then.”  I don’t know if he still believes in Santa, if he’s hedging his bets and letting us think he does, or if he’s like his mom…wanting to believe in Santa, no matter what.

(Oh, and I think I’ll re-dub NaBloPoMo “NaBLOWPoMo,” since I blew it.  Oh well, 29 posts in 30 days!  I can do it!)

*I’m one of those people who has a small part of them still wishing Santa was a real-live guy with a real-live workshop, able to fulfill my every holiday dream, so it’s not that far-fetched for me to have wished Santa could have brought me a car when I was fifteen.

The coolest X-Wing yet!
One can never have too many X-Wings. This Lego set is another excellent rendition of one of the Star Wars universe’s best ships. It is bigger than the original X-Wing from 1999, and has a greater level of detail. Though it does not come with the other stuff like the 1999 set, it does come with many more Lego figures, including Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2-D2 and, for the first time, Wedge! This set also gives you the opportunity to change some of the ship’s marking, so you can convert it from Luke’s X-Wing to Wedge’s X-Wing.

The ship is very sturdy, and the length is longer than expected. The wings move up and down via a turning dial in the back. This gives you more control of where you want the wings to sit, so you can pose it however you want. There is also a place to store the lightsaber and the cockpit is hinged so you can open it.

Overall, this is might be the best X-Wing yet. The 437 pieces will take a few hours at the most to build, but it is well worth it. It is a great Lego model, and even if you own earlier versions of the other X-Wings, this one should be a welcome addition to your collection.

I mentioned on an earlier post that LEGO was coming out with a build-on LEGO Star Wars Nintendo DS Lite Case with printed tiles and it only makes sense that it wouldn’t be a one off product.

The new LEGO Indiana Jones DS Lite Case is just as cool with an equally awesome tile picture on the front. It looks like both cases will be sold wherever Nintendo DS accessories are available, although I did check Gamestop.com and I didn’t see either one available (at least not yet).

Both Toys R Us.com and StarWarsShop.com have the Star Wars Case available, it looks like Toys R Us is the only one selling the Indiana Jones one at the moment. For some reason its for “pre-order” at the Star Wars Shop, but “in stock” at Toys R Us.

My only problem with Toy R Us is that the cases cost $16.99 there instead of the $14.99 at the Star Wars Shop!

Toy R Us is often more expensive than other toy retailers, a fact that is blatantly obvious if you do any sort of price comparison. However, if the cases are available at my local Toy R Us I just might have to make an exception for these (because when you factor in the shipping costs, it would be about the same) and I don’t even have a DS Lite!

The Ultimate House on Wheels!

I just received this set for Christmas from my brother. Since I’m a big fan of LEGO’s and Star Wars, I was very happy to receive this set.

This set has a huge part selection (1669 pieces) and takes about five or six hours to complete. This set includes several Jawa minifigs and is currently the only set that has the Jawa’s. It also has several different droids and Uncle Owen but no Luke. Of course, pretty much every other Classic Star Wars LEGO set has Luke so no big loss there. This set also has hundreds of the unique technic link treads which are very hard to find.

Overall, this is a pretty good set. You can remove the workshop from the body of the Sandcrawler so you can access the various droids. It also has a hatch for the Jawa driver and a ramp that lowers so you can remove the crane section. However, there is a lot of wasted space in the set. I would have thought LEGO would have been able to use more of the dead space in the vehicle because it’s essentially a big castle set on wheels. Also, while I really like the unique track design and steering mechanism, it doesn’t roll that well on carpet.

Despite the few drawbacks and expensive price, this is a pretty solid set and looks very similar to the Sandcrawler in Episode IV. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you will like this set. It’s a must-have for your Tatooine layout.

LEGO Sandcrawler – “Impressive”

Of all the Star Wars cultures and their related machinery, none has fascinated me as much as the Jawas and their roving droid factory / store. In this set (LEGO 10144), LEGO has faithfully brought to life the Jawas and the monstrous Sandcrawler.

The LEGO Sandcrawler is “Impressive”, to say the least. The model is huge, and very well designed. If carefully constructed, the Sandcrawler is remarkably strong, and the steering mechanism functions as shown on the box. The top middle section of the Sandcrawler is removable, and several hatches open to store the crane and numerous mini-figures included with the set.

The mini-figures included with the set are: three Jawas, Uncle Owen Lars, R2-D2, C-3PO, R5-D5, ASP Droid, Gonk Droid, Treadwell Droid, and R1-G4.

Put a full day aside for the construction of this beast – it took me over six hours. For the true Star Wars LEGO collector this set is a requisite, and worth every second of building time.

I love the sandcrawler .I like the tredwell droid. You will like him too. The details are great. Use super glue on the bottom. The treds are hard to bulid. Be careful when you put the treds on! Awesome!

I reviewed LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary by Simon Beecroft. I was very excited to review the book when Sarah received it in the mail because I am fan of Legos and Star Wars. The book seemed to be written just for me! And as a bonus, the book includes a free mini figure and that immediately won me over.

LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary is a chronicling of all the Star Wars sets Lego has issued to date. It is especially written for Lego fans and collectors. It goes into detail to show the differences between sets issued in 1999 and say 2008, for example. It made me appreciate the sets Lego has created for the Star Wars universe. The text of the book gives a summary of the different aspects of the movies ad Star Wars lore, including the Death Star and the Rebel Army.

I would recommend this book to Lego fans and collectors of the Lego Star Wars memorabilia. However, it does lack real insight that pure Star Wars fans would be looking for. I do think kids would love this book, though!

Detailed, Movie-Accurate Design

The most iconic vessel in the Star Wars universe, the smuggler Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from fellow rogue Lando Calrissian in a game of sabacc. Every detail of this famous, modified Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 freighter is packed into this model, which is constructed to scale. Building Your Own Millennium Falcon

With 5,196 Lego pieces, the Millennium Falcon took more than 50 hours to construct. A huge percentage of the pieces come in shades of gray, and approaching construction requires a bit of organization and discipline. Interesting New Star Wars model.
Interesting new Star Wars Lego model. Fairly easy build and nice design. Haven’t seen the Clone Wars episode so don’t know if the tank matches the t.v. show one accurately (need to look up). But it’s a cool looking new Star Wars lego.

PRO’s-Design, hidden compartment that holds a seated figure which uses a technique lever that raises and lowers the figure (very cool idea), sliding lever towards front that fires 2 missiles, 2 flick-fire missiles at rear on tilting mount, a tilting canon at front/middle, 3 mini-figures (with 2 brand new Star Wars characters:space pirate figures).

CON’s- Overall very strong middle section and back construction but left and right side armor towards front could use another piece to secure it better. Stickers used for tops of the opening hatch should’ve been brick pieces (the stickers are fine but a brick plate would be better or a printed brick plate). When applying the stickers here, follow the instructions accurately so they line up properly with each other.

Also this could be a con or not (I haven’t seen the show so someone can correct me), the 2 new minifigures are cool but they seem out of place in the Star Wars Universe (meaning their look, not design-which is cool). Also, the mini-figures have guns and swords which again seem out of place in the futuristic Star Wars world. Also on the side of the lower wings to the back of the ship, there appears to be ‘harpoon’ looking weapons. Again does this fit into the futuristic Star Wars world? Perhaps lego should’ve designed these same ‘old’ looking weapons to have a new, futuristic style to them. I understand the pirate motif with the weapons but a futuristic style to them would’ve been better I think.

Overall though I’d recommend this to any kid or adult fan of lego or Star Wars. Fun to play with.

This Lego set is really easy to build and it is a great tank when it’s done. It only took me 45 minutes to put it together even though there are 372 pieces. I got it at the Lego store, it was a special edition and it was a good deal.

The gun turret moves and there are awesome brand new Lego mini-figures. There are hidden missiles and the front & back wings move (and the back turret moves!). There is a hidden capsule for one man and great spots for the other man. My favorite mini-figure is Turk Falso. The tank looks like it would be really fast after it’s put together.

If you like Lego tanks you will love this set!!! I recommend this Lego set, and I think it’s the best set I have built yet! Connor

Members of the 501st Legion really added to the fun!

There are good days, there are bad days and there are incredible days. 10-10-09, this past Saturday, was an incredible day! We held a party, together with the Sandwich Recreation Department, to celebrate the release of the DK Lego Star Wars Visual Dictionary……and about 600 of our friends showed up! That was not a typo.  600. We are so grateful to the Sandwich High School Key Club, Sandwich High School Honor Society and the Cape Cod Fencing Academy members who volunteered for this event. They worked hard and made the day a lot of fun.

Who could blame them? We had Star Wars characters (courtesy of the 501st Legion), Lego activities (build a Lego race car, a one minute Lego tower build contest where your tower had to stand up to the power of a blowing fan, and build a Star Wars Lego mini), crafts, face painting, a fencing demonstration, a costume parade and a giant Lego cake! Thanks to DK, everyone left with a bag full of Star Wars goodies like stickers, posters, pins and more! It was a GREAT day.
