I havent written for about a week. I was planning to the other day, and then I got sick with suspect

I havent written for about a week. I was planning to the other day, and then I got sick with suspected swine flu! I am taking the Tamiflu meds that I have been prescribed and feel slightly better; the pain killers seem to help me faze in and out of the real world. All in all, I dont think I have had the worst case of flu ever, but it has been horrible. I am still not better in the slightest but should be in a few days. To take 5 mins on your hands and knees to get upstairs to the toilet doesnt really help esteem…

It was my friend Lauren’s 21st birthday yesterday, but alas I was too poorly to go out with her, and then go to work I will make it up to you I promise, and I hope you had a good birthday!

Today I found out that my dad has been taking great photos of Lego men!? He stole a load from me before the summer but I hadnt seen any of the produce. Here is my favourite:

Click the image to see all of his work. He does a lot of nature and macro photography, which I think is great. There is no dispute that my photography inspiration and knowledge has always come from him

What else have I found while laying around feeling sorry for myself…? A beautiful place called Stitch Lab, which looks too good to be true!:

When I feel better I am planning to sort out the spare room into a spare room/sewing and crafts room! I cant wait!

This living room is very cute! I love the crochet throw on the sofa, the little green table in the back and the kitchen too…:

I also want a typewriter like this! Its amazing!:

Im not sure what else to write about at the moment, my brain is a bit fried from all the pain killers. Hopefully I will feel a bit better tomorrow.

[No picture - poorly-state face]

P.S I finished Tomb Raider: Underworld on the 360, and now I am in the middle of Wet. Both games are great!

FBTB.net (From Bricks to Bothans) the ultimate Star Wars LEGO Fan site is hosting its first Charity Drive.

FBTB is getting into the holiday spirit! This site, the community, and especially you, the readers, is what I am thankful for this holiday season. And it’s time to channel some of that good will towards a charitable cause.

FBTB is giving away one of these:

and all of these:

to one lucky winner. But wait, there’s more! If you’re not chosen as the grand prize winner, you are eligible to win the consolation prize! The second place prize includes everything in the second picture posted above, basically, everything the first place prize winner gets, minus 8038 The Battle of Endor. That’s 1 MINI Tie Fighter, 1 Chrome Darth Vader, 1 Chrome Stormtrooper, 1 Chrome C-3PO, 1 LEGOLand California 2005 Star Wars Weekend promo brick, and 1 LEGOLand California 2009 Star Wars Weekend promo brick . Sound cool? Here are the details on how you can win. There’s a lot of text, so please read carefully:

* It’s basically raffle where each “ticket” costs $2.00 USD.
* You can purchase your ticket by hitting the donate button below and completing the Paypal checkout.
* You can purchase as many tickets as you’d like. If you are planning on making a large donation, unfortunately, you will have to complete the checkout process each time in $2.00 USD increments. But remember, each time you complete the checkout, you get another ticket into the raffle increasing your chances of wining.
* The raffle is open to anyone in the world able to complete the Paypal checkout process.
* The last day to purchase tickets is 11:59pm December 20, 2009.
* As the donor recipient, I get an email notification for each donation received; that is your raffle entry. You will also receive a receipt of your payment via email from Paypal. You do NOT have to email me or forward me your receipt. There’s nothing more you have to do besides complete the Paypal checkout process.
* All the emails will be filtered into a special folder. After the deadline, I’ll use a random number generator to select the lucky winner numbered in the chronological order received.
* 50% of the first 100 donations will be used to cover the cost of the prize package and postage and handling for prize delivery. The other 50% will go towards the charity. After the first 100 donations, 100% of the proceeds will go towards the charity.
* Prize packages will be mailed out on December 21, 2009 via USPS Express Mail, just in time for Christmas.*

The charity chosen for FBTB’s Charity Drive is Penny Arcade’s Child Play, a non-profit organization raising money and toys for sick children hospitalized during the holidays. For more information on Child’s Play, visit their website: Child’s Play.

I’ve made my donation, so if you would like to be part of the raffle go to the FBTB Charity Drive Page. Good luck!

I just came back from Safeway. Before that, I was eating dinner. Before that, I was at the 2009 FIRST Lego League Qualifying Tournament.

At the tournament, you have to program a NXT Mindstorms robot to do certain missions that you pick. You also get scored on your teamwork, robot design, and project that has to be based on the theme. (By the way, this year’s theme was about safe ways to get to places. Basically, transportation.) On the practical part (the missions), we got 9th place out of 12. The good part? We were the first team in our region to finish a round on the red bridge. That was kinda cool.

We didn’t get any awards or anything, but all in all, it was fun. The red bridge thing was even more cool.

Why has it taken them so long to put together two of the most amazing things in life: LEGO and MUJI. If only they were already available for purchase now.. US and European stockists are still yet to confirm their availability. They’re basically coloured pages with pre-cut LEGO-congruent holes on them so you can build more interesting shapes using both LEGO AND paper. There is a range of different box sets that they will come in (are the LEGO pieces included? it looks like it!), each specific to the different kinds of forms you can build. So simple, yet so genius! Now this, ladies and gentlemen, is good design.

Even though its not quite Thanksgiving yet, LEGOLAND California is already decked out for Christmas.

Master Model Builders trimmed the Christmas tree in front of the Capitol in Miniland USA this morning in preparation for LEGOLAND California’s Holly Jolly Holidays presented by Western Dental kicking off Nov. 30 following the annual tree lighting ceremony.

The Miniland Washington, D.C. Inauguration scene has been replaced by a LEGO® interactive marching band wearing green and white uniforms with festive red sashes. The animated band marches back and forth while playing “Jingle Bell Rock” and a familiar “ho-ho-ho” can be heard when Park guests push buttons cueing different sounds of the season. Holly wreaths have also been added to the eaves of the Capitol above a 20-inch-tall LEGO Christmas tree trimmed with more than 500 ornaments. Nearby, a line of minilanders wait to sit on a mini Santa’s lap while carolers sing on the Capitol steps. Other holiday models include children building snowmen, an elf workshop, a horse drawn carriage, toy soldiers and, of course, presents under the tree.

The entire theme park is being transformed into a holiday wonderland featuring vibrant holiday decorations including a new LEGO snowman complete with top hat and black coat tails that stands 5-feet tall, features 37,000 LEGO bricks and took nearly 200 hours to build. Children may also pose with a special life-size LEGO display of Santa, his sleigh and two reindeer. The 7-foot tall display features 51,100 bricks and provides a unique photo opportunity during the holidays.

LEGOLAND California’s Holly Jolly Holidays starts with a bang with its annual tree lighting ceremony Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. featuring special guests Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott and a performance by one the hottest children’s entertainment groups, The Jumpitz™. Spelling and McDermott are currently in production for the fifth season of their popular and record-breaking reality series “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood,” scheduled to premiere in Spring, 2010 on Oxygen.

The world’s largest LEGO Christmas tree stands more than 30-feet-tall, is made of more than 245,000 forest green DUPLO® bricks, adorned with more than 240 LEGO ornaments and surrounded by packages and LEGO friends the whole family can enjoy.

LEGOLAND California’s Holly Jolly Holidays runs through Dec. 31 and guests can enjoy festive entertainment every weekend including carolers, strolling musicians and nightly fireworks Dec. 26 through Dec. 30. From Dec. 3 through Dec. 24, a child will randomly be selected to help pull the switch that lights up the LEGO Christmas tree during a fun ceremony right before the Park closes each night.

Also, the sparkling musical “Let it Snow” returns with exciting songs, dancing and a holiday story to warm guest’s hearts. The musical holiday show features the Park’s signature song, “Season of Imagination” and runs every weekend from Nov. 27 through Dec. 13 and daily Dec. 19 through Dec. 25.

The holiday season concludes with the one-and-only Kids’ New Year’s Eve party in southern California on Dec. 31 with festivities beginning at 4 p.m. For more information on the LEGOLAND theme park, event schedules, hours and prices visit www.LEGOLAND.com or call (760) 918-LEGO.

Christmas was one of my most favorite times at LEGOLAND. I was the one that decorated and designed the scenes in Miniland at Christmas for 4 years. You can even see the candy canes I designed in the picture.

So, if you are in the area, stop by and check out LEGOLAND for their Holly Jolly Holidays celebration.

LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter Review

Check Price Now!

Nice looking ship. Looks good when built. Easy to build but nicely crafted. Small quibble-could use an extra piece under the cockpit to secure it better(which I’ve done with an extra piece I had from another lego set). Also both side wings(panels)could use a tighter bond but overall a fine addition to any Star Wars lego collection.

PRO’s-Ship design, Darth Vader mini-figure, wings tilt and straighten, cockpit design and underneath ship a small peg/click to hold/attach Darth Vader’s light saber.

CON’s-Needs another small flat 2×3 brick plate to help secure under cockpit better so when you put in Vader, it won’t separate the cockpit (easy fix). Wings need perhaps a couple more technique pegs to secure a tigher bon(again, easy fix).

Overall with some minor tweaks it’s a fun ship. Recommended and Highly Recommended for any Star Wars fan or Darth Vader fan.

Learning experience – mama bear – D.C.
My 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting this together. It was a great learning experience on how to follow detailed instructions and the cause and effect of not doing so. The down side is that the little pieces don’t stay together well and it can be very frustrating to pretend play with it. If you are looking for something to challenge someone who is creative and likes to build and create something new all the time, it’s a great toy. If you are looking for something for a Star Wars fan who likes to imagine and act out their own battles and scenes, stick with a non-Lego toy.
Great fun! – John Maass – alexandria, VA, USA
Got this as a gift for my 7-year-old son. He was thrilled with it, “even though it’s a bad guy ship.” He insisted on putting it together by himself and when it got challenging he told me he didn’t want any help. He was so proud of himself when he finished with it and he plays with it all the time.
AWESOME! – M. Sarrao – New Mexico, USA
I bought this for my son’s 11th birthday. He LOVES Star Wars Lego sets. He was so excited to get this set. He said that it was a limited (or special) edition set. [...].

Toys are used in play by children, adults and pets. The difference a toy has from a game is that toy play does not have clearly defined goals; that is if you do not play with my brother. Today, huge toy chains, like “Toy-R-Us,” carry a vast assortment of different toys for any age and background, covering the needs of children and parents. But while parents spend a small fortune on acquiring the latest model of their son's favorite car toy, the young boy will continue to play with the old one and although he will at the beginning be extremely happy with his new possession, the old car that misses a wheel and a door will never leave its bed.

The explanation for this type of behavior is rather simple. In fact, if you try to recall your favor

The explanation for this type of behavior is rather simple. In fact, if you try to recall your favorite toy while you were a kid, you will probably remember that its prime time had long passed, but you continued holding it in your arms as you fell asleep. Some people state that their favorite ‘toy' was not even a regular purchased toy. Any item in the house that a kid for some reason will pick up, toss in the air or play around with can become a toy. As long as children's imagination is at work, even a rubber band or a pillow can become a toy with which a child will feel a close connection.

For those gamers who are used to Lara Croft, the next-generation consoles revolutionized the way she handled. Gone were the grids, the running jumps, the aggravating camera controls. The vast improvement of the graphic, sound, and gameplay on the next-gen consoles have not gone unnoticed by fans who abandoned the game after the series' disappointing Angle of Darkness installment. But with Tomb Raider: Legend they found that Crystal Dynamics had picked up the ball where it had been dropped and run for the endzone.

Ten years after pointy-chested, polygonal Lara Croft ran, rolled, dove, and shot her way onto the video gaming stage, a new game based on Lara's exploit's in the very first Tomb Raider has been released. It was released for the PlayStation2 and the Xbox 360 in the summer of 2007, but owners of the Nintendo Wii had to wait until this week to get their hands on the diva of the video-gaming world.

While Tomb Raider Anniversary is dubbed as a remake, Crystal Dynamics has kept the environment and challenges fresh enough to warrant the game its own status. The environment and stories are generally the same as the first game, but if you're expecting a 1-to-1 update of the first Tomb Raider, you're going to be disappointed. In Tomb Raider Anniversary, Lara jumps, dives, and shoots her way through Peru, Greece, Egypt, and the lost island of Atlantis in pursuit of the three pieces of the mysterious Scion.

Some areas of the game have been expanded, and some have been tightened up, but the balance that players will probably look for is there. All the rooms, traps, and enemies you remember are there, but there's plenty of new challenges. Fans of the franchise will recognize the painstaking effort that Crystal Dynamic took to ensure that the best-loved areas from the first game were preserved faithfully. The best example of this is St. Francis Folly. The “column o' death” which Lara has to descend, gathering keys on the way down, is as close to identical to the original as players could want. The spirit (“Oh dear, I'm hundreds of feet up, hanging from a ledge and I've no idea what to do now”) is there in spades.

Other areas have been changed slightly. The “fire room” from Tomb Raider's Palace Midas has been altered slightly, giving Lara more of a challenge than just timing her jumps right. Faithful fans take heart: there's a good chance you'll have a Lara flambé at least once before you get through it.

The real story with Lara's journey to Wii is the new way you handle her. With the other next-generation systems, you still control Lara with the joysticks and cause her to interact with buttons on the controller. With the Wii, things are a little different. Players control Lara with the joystick and interact with the environment with the D-pad, but the Wii version has a whole new element: puzzles up close and personal.

Lara now has to manipulate puzzles with her hands, excavate items, and place items with precision. For instance, when placing the cogs in the machinery in the Lost Valley map, on the PS2 or Xbox 360, players simply choose it from the inventory and it will be placed automatically. On the Wii, you'll have the option of where to place which cog, causing a good deal of trial and error as the game progresses. This makes sense: Lara has never been to these environments before–how should she know what goes where?

In addition to placing objects, Lara now has to deal with complicated switches. On the PS2, you grab a switch and pull it down by pushing a single button. On the Wii, Lara may be required to work out a puzzle on the switch before she can pull it–using the new “Lara's Hands” feature. Players will use the varied Wii remotes to utilize all of Lara's features from her flashlight to her grappling hook. Players beware–the precision required by these actions may frustrate you if you haven't been playing on the Wii for long.

Further, Lara may be required to dig up objects, and on the Wii Lara comes equipped with a varied tool kit that players will have to use to excavate the item, whether it be a key or cog. Of course, shooting is also controlled by movement with the Wii remotes, giving you the feeling of being there.

With excellent graphics, beautiful sound and chilling music, and utilization of the Wii's controller style, Tomb Raider Anniversary puts you in Lara's trusty boots, short shorts, and sleeveles shirt. The new features that come with using the Wii's motion-based controllers add a whole new level of depth to the Tomb Raider franchise that fans and newcomers alike should enjoy.

Toys are not only for kids. Adults need the relaxation and the memories beloved toys can bring back to their memories. I still have in my room the Rubik's Cube which I managed only once to solve and numerous times I thought of taking off its colored rectangular stickers and placing each color on every side. I never actually did it because I was afraid of the consequences if I destroyed my fathers favorite toy. When I understood that solving the cube requires some planning and problem-solving skills, I was determined to succeed and I still remember the joyful screaming when I managed to “solve” its mystery; probably by accident. Since then, I have been catching myself thinking of my favorite old toys, like Lego and Playmobil, not very girly I know, and recapturing the times I was playing in our then common room with my brother.
