Now that’s just cruel

Now that November will end, so too will the “New Project Every week” run we had. Granted, I didn’t say it was only going to last this month, but heck, this doesn’t happen often so who cares. Time to end the run with our last new project of 2009, a series called Kamisama Dolls. Here is the description given by MangaUpdates:

Kyouhei, after moving away to Tokyo from his old town to get away from the events that happened, is on a goukon with his friends, including his old neighbor, Shiba. After drinking for a whole night, he and Shiba discover a dead, bloody, body in the elevator. He is told by his younger sister, Utao with her Kamisama Doll, that Aki, an old friend, and his Doll, are the culprits responsible.

A truly under-appreciated series, given that the last release was about a year ago, here you go with the first two chapters. I figure it’d be easy to get into the series if you read the first two chapters as opposed to simply reading the first to get you into it. In any case, I also have a bunch of other treats for you to close out the month. Think of it as Black Friday, except on Saturday (or Sunday for those to whom it may apply)

Also, I can’t stress this enough, but we’re still looking for a translator for the Winter season of Anime. Luckily the pool of series that we’re look at are all series that air in January, so we have more time, but we still are in need of a translator, so anyone interested, apply on our site by clicking on the “Join the Team” tab up on the top right.Now, without further ado, a whole bunch of manga! Also, since I’m bored right now, I’ll probably be updating the archived section so it is more user friendly (like you can click the links lol) as well as adding more download links and our new projects. Oh yeah, this is the last chapter of Volume 4 for Lelouch of the Rebellion, I cannot find a suitable raw for Volume 5, so for now Lelouch of the Rebellion will be on hiatus until suitable raws surface.

Woohoo! Enjoy your Lelouch of the Rebellion, because of the length of each chapter (they average like 30-40 pages each, plus the time it takes to typeset and translate) the schedule of release for this series is  every 3-4 weeks. Also, this ends a week of Bamboo Blade daily releases, as this is the end of volume 10 and thus I’ve hit the limit of translations that I had readily available, pretty awesome right? Well yeah, it was good while it lasted, we’ll keep releasing every week, so expect chapter 86 next week, and each following chapter in the very same fashion. Synopsis: The year is 2017. It has been seven years since the Holy Empire of Britannia has conquered Japan using their superior weapons, the Knightmare Frames. Forcefully subjugated to their oppressors, the Nation of the Rising Sun is nothing but a colony designated as “Area 11″. Guerilla warfare resumes, but the Japanese efforts have yet to produce any results. It is not until a mysterious young man, Lelouch Vi Britannia, appears that a true rebellion take place.

Let me just get this out of the way quickly … Code Geass is one amazing anime series! I was hooked after about 2 episodes and finished the first season quickly. When an episode is over and you instantly want to watch the next then you know you are watching something brillant.

Lets start with everything I liked about the series: It is beautiful – some of the best quality animation I have seen in awhile. It is highly stylized and extremely unique as well. The characters are developed and enticing, the plot blows your mind, the pace is so fast you can’t blink. The action is fantastic and it has just enough violence and gore. Some of the scenes in this series will blow your mind. I love the political theme behind the story all most as much as the crazy strategic mech battles.

The only reason this series isnt getting 5 stars from me is the extremely dissapointing ending. I am currenty watching the second season or “R2″ as its called and will give a review for it as well but hopefully it will have a way better ending that the first season had.

Definitely check out Code Geass!

Last month I’ve finished an anime entitled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Season 1) and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (Season 2) in as short as 2 weeks, mostly during the holy week.

I was intrigued by the plot of the anime. It’s been long since the local tv channels here aired some decent anime shows that appealed to me.
According to Wiki, the first season aired in Japan from October 2006 upto July 2007 and the second season ran from April 2008 to September 2008, just last year. I think the episode’s currently running on Cartoon Network Adult Swim in the US. While here in the Philippines, I don’t know if they’ve aired it on Animax. Sorry, our cable doesn’t have any Animax or Hero channel, it’s exclusive to other cable providers.

Anyhoo, each season has a total of 25 episodes each with a moderate to fast paced story runs. To make this easier for me, I’d tell more about the anime by parts.

First off…

The Power of Geass

It is an absolute power which is sometimes associated with the Power of the Gods. In the anime it is associated with power to command, influence emotion, perception and memory. It is represented by a red bird-shaped symbol when active. At first, it appears only in one eye and with continued use it increases power until it spreads in both eyes and becomes uncontrollable.
The geass also serves as the binding contract between the immortal and the human. The moment the geass reach its full power, the person can receive the immortal’s “Code” which leaves a mark on his body and grants him power. The “Code” makes the immortal immune to geass and make his own contracts but it doesn’t allow him to die. While the previous owner of the “Code” dies in the process of transfering the “Code”.

The Plot and Setting

The series is set in an alternate universe where there are three Empires that ruled the world. The Holy Britannian Empire, The Chinese Federation and The Euro Universe.
It was the year 2010 a.t.b. (i don’t know what a.t.b. stands for) after Japan was conquered by the Holy Britannian Empire and renamed as Area 11. In this era, Japan is the top producer of the high energy mineral called sakuradite.

In this new area gained by the empire lived the exiled prince named Lelouch Lamperouge who gave up his claim to the throne and swore to destroy his father, the Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire. In the process, he meets a young lady named C.C. and acquired the power of Geass of Absolute Obedience. He then became the leader of the rebellion and hid behind a mask and called himself Zero. He got three things to accomplish: revenge for his mother’s death, to build a world where his sister Nunally can live and to fulfill the contract that goes with the geass.

The Characters
Here are the characters that you would see from start to finish of the series. And the story mainly evolves around them.

Lelouch Lamperouge / Lelouch Vi Britannia
The 17th heir to the Britannian throne. He was exiled to Area 11 after his mother’s assasination, Lady Marianne. He acquired the power of geass in an encounter between the military and Japanese rebels where he met C.C. After knowing of such power he used this control the military and lead the rebellion.

Suzaku Kururugi
The son of the late Prime Minister of Japan, Genbu Kururugi, and the chilhood friend of Lelouch. He became part of the Britannian Army and the Pilot of the Knightmare Frame Lancelot. He then gains the trust of the 3rd Britannian Princess Euphemia. He hides a secret that Lelouch would know eventually.

C.C
An immortal green-haired girl that gave the power of geass to Lelouch in exchange of a contract, which isn’t revealed until the second season. She occasionally helps Lelouch with his plans to ensure he doesn’t die.

Nunally Lamperouge / Nunally Li Britannia
Lelouch sister and heir to the Britannian Throne. She became wheelchair-bound and blind from witnessing their mother’s assasination.

Kallen Stadtfeld / Kallen Kouzuki
A half Japanese and half Britannian rebel. She acts as a weak and frail student at the Ashford Academy but is actually one of the effecient rebels. She then becomes the head of Zero’s Protection Batallion and pilots the Guren.

The Knightmare Frames

Knightmare Frames are humanoid war machines that replaced battle tanks. The knightmares are similar to the Gundams in terms of the look but they are very different in design and specifications. In the series, knightmares were introduced by the Britannian Empire and the Japanese and Chinese Federation debut their own in the middle of the series.

A couple type of knightmares are the Lancelot, which Suzaku pilots, is made by Count Lloyd, a Britannian, and it is powered by the energy mineral sakuradite.
While the Guren, which Kallen pilots, is made by Rakshata an Indian Engineer who took the side of the rebels and she’s a woman. The Guren is powered by radiation surge.

As the story progress, the knightmares evolve into different generations, upto the 8th and 9th generation. The Lancelot evolved to Lancelot Albion and the Guren to Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Both knightmares
became float systems that enabled them to fly.

Hi people! ^^

Antes de mais nada gostaria de desejar um feliz ano novo atrasadíssimo, e que vocês aproveitem bastante esse ano, inclusive o carnaval que está bem perto né.

Contrariando alguma fontes obscuras, eu ainda não morri…não queria desapontar os meus inimigos (bem…não sei quem são mas devo ter…todo mundo tem, por que eu não teria também?) contando isso, mas foi mais forte que eu.
Era pra ter feito um post novo nesse ano há mais tempos, mas sempre acontece algo (internet deu problema justo no fim de semana quando tenho tempo, viajei para fazer cursos do serviço, etc)…mas ninguém ainda descobriu o verdadeiro ponto fraco para evitar os nossos posts (mas seria bem útil se alguém descobrisse…ajudaria muito nesse mundo capitalista).

Cortando um pouco do papo furado…
Gostaria de salientar que apesar de não estar postando (só o amigo lightsaber sabe a dureza de postar sozinho…na realidade ele compartilha bastante seu desolamento comigo, até mais do que deveria; mas na falta de outros membros para reclamar…digo…desabafar né…), continuo sempre vendo e analisando o conteúdo do blog como sempre. Não realizo mais as minhas análises ortográficas nos posts dos companheiros, mas gerencio a entrada dos comentários, sempre o mais rápido possível aliás…recebi no email, está aqui hehehe.

E antes do que realmente interessa (Sei que está pensando: “Meu Deus, será que ele não vai parar?”, mas tenha calma, estou aproveitando o momento…), gostaria de agradecer ao pessoal que sempre aparece para marcar presença no blog.
Desde aqueles que acabam aqui depois de resultados bizarros de pesquisa no Googles, até aqueles que vem aqui por livre e espontânea vontade. Muito obrigado por usar seu tempo ocioso (ou não) nos prestigiando.

Hoje vamos falar de um anime que foi febre há pouco tempo atrás. Na época em que todo mundo falava dele eu nem liguei muito, mas acabei pegando pra assistir no final do ano passado e achei bem interessante.
Estamos falando de Code Geass : Lelouch Of The Rebellion.

Code Geass - Lelouch Of The Rebellion

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion é um anime criado pelo Estúdio Sunrise, foi escrito por Ichiro Okouchi, e teve o aparência de seu personagens (character design) foi desenvolvida pelo Estúdio Clamp.

A série começou no Japão em 5 de Outubro de 2006 e foi finalizada em 28 de Julho de 2007; com um total de 25 episódios (27 contanto os episódios especiais que contam um breve resumo da série até determinado ponto).Uma sequência chamada de Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (a qual pretendo abordar assim que assistir) começou a ser exibida em 6 de Abril de 2008 e acabou em 28 de Setembro de 2008, com mais 25 episódios.

Karen, Lelouch, Susaku, C.C.

A história se passa num universo alternativo, onde no ano de 2010, o poderoso Império de Britannia (uma aparenta fazer ilusão a Europa), que já vinha conquistando todo o mundo, ataca o Japão usando uma nova tecnologia de máquinas de combate chamada de Knightmare Frame ( Knightmate viria de Knight= Cavaleiro + Nightmare= Pesadelo e Frame seria uma referência a robôs com forma humanóide usados para combate).
Em menos de um mês o Japão é derrotado perdendo sua honra, seus direitos e seu nome, passando agora a ser chamado de Área 11 (Referência ao número crescente de áreas conquistadas pelo império de Britannia).

Lelouch

Os japoneses, agora chamado de “Eleven“(11 em inglês), são obrigados a viver na pobreza e humiliação contínua em meio a uma populção de Britannians que agora vivem lá e são como nobres. Uma resistência existe, formada por algumas organizações remanescentes do Japão, mas sendo pequena, pouco a pouco vem sendo suprimida pelo poderoso Império de Britannia.

Lelouch e Knightmare Frames

Nessa mesma época, Lelouch Lamperouge, um dos filhos do Imperador de Britannia, sofre um atentado em sua casa que acaba por matar sua mãe e deixa sua irmã paraplégica e cega. Culpano seu pai por não ter evitado a morte de sua mãe, Lelouch jura se vingar destruindo Britannia.
Após sete anos, durante um incidente com terroristas na área 11, ele encontra uma misteriosa garota chamada C.C. que propõe um acordo: se ele prometesse ajudá-la a cumprir um certo objetivo, ela concederia o poder que ele precisava para realizar o seu sonho.

Sem hesitar ele aceita e recebe um poder chamado Geass, que será o seu maior trunfo para conseguir destruir de uma vez por todas o império de Britannia e é a partir daí que a história realmente começa.

O plot principal da história gira em cima da vingança de Lelouch, que é um jovem inteligente que tem uma mente estratégia brilhante. Agora jogar xadrez, e acaba achando os homens a seus serviço são como peças de xadrez, não tendo muita misericórdia ou receio de usá-lo em estratégias arriscadas. Ele que de todo jeito, se vingar de Britannia e criar um mundo pacífico onde poderá viver em paz com sua irmã Nunnaly, não importa o que isso custe.

Seu amigo de infância, Suzaku Kururugi, é um Britannian Honorário (um japonês que mostrou sua lealdade a Britannia, mas que mesmo assim é mal visto pelo Britannians por ainda assim ser um Eleven) e é um soldado de Britannia. Numa virada do destino acaba sendo o piloto de teste para o mais novo modelo de Knightmare Frame criado pelo setor de desenvolvimento de Britannia: Lancelot. Como seu resultados de compatibilidade beiram 100%, acaba sendo selecionado como piloto cativo do modelo. Aliás, ele é o oposto de Lelouch, sendo ágil, forte e um excelente piloto.

Durante a história, Lelouch se vincula a uma pequena resistência local e começa a causar dor de cabeça em alguns setores da Área 11. Para não revelar sua verdadeira identidade, ele usar uma roupa diferente, uma máscara e se auto intitula Zero.

O poder chamado Geass é uma habilidade misteriosa. Enquanto faz contato visual direto com o alvo, Lelouch pode dar uma ordem e o alvo é obrigado a cumpri-la, mesmo contra sua vontade. Mas esse poder só pode ser usado uma vez  conta cada alvo. A medida em que a história avança, mais fatos vão sendo revelados a seu respeito e origem, mas no geral, o Geass é um poder relacionado com habilidades mentais (como o “controle da mente” criado pelas ordens de Lelouch).

Suzaku, Euphemia, C.C., Lelouch

Agora vamos as análises, pois fica difícil explicar mais sem dar spoilers.

Apesar do estilo visual de desenho da meninas da Clamp não ser o preferido de alguns, o traço do desenho é muito bom e bem feito. Certos “efeitos especiais” em 3D para mostrar o funcionamento dos Knightmares ou do Geass são muito bonitos e bem trabalhados.

A trilha sonora do desenhos é um deleite a parte. Em sua maioria, é composta segue um gênero clássico com algumas exceções, o que é bem encaixado em um anime que se baseia tem muito embasamento de nobreza e imperialismo. As músicas de abertura e fechamento também são muito boas.

A história é envolvente e interessante, pois há medida que avança, acontecem muitas reviravoltas e pontos decisivos que supreendem quem está assistindo. Acabam sendo abordados alguns pontos em que você para para pensar se o objetivo principal é mais importante do que princípios de ética e humanismo e se vale a pena sacrifícios para alcançar o que se almeja. Principalmente pelo fato de que o preço a se pagar sempre é muito alto.
A mistura de poder sobrenatural, com robôs, guerra civil e conflito de interesses parece bizarra mas foi bem constituída e não atrapalha o desenrolar de tudo.

A série termina num impasse no último episódio, exigindo que se veja a continuação para poder descobrir como a história realmente acaba.

O mangá segue o foco básico do anime, apenas com algumas pequenas diferenças sutis. Foram lançados quatro mangás diferente  no Japão, onde cada uma ocorre numa realidade diferente tendo personagens principais diferente e em algumas deles, os Knightmares Frame não exitem; além de encontrarmos usos diferentes para os poderes relativos ao Geass.

Chegaram a ser lançados três jogos: dois para Nintendo DS, e um para Playstation 2 e Playstation Portátil. Pelo que eu li rapidamente da descrição dos jogos, nenhum foi interessante, então nem vou me dar ao trabalho de escrever aqui (Um parece de minigames e outro parece com aquelas novelas gráficas que os japoneses adoram). O game de PS 2 é esse abaixo, o outro de Nintendo DS se refere ao Code Geass R2, mas foi a única capa que achei.

So, what’d you all think of the ending to Code Geass R2? A lot of people seem to be clamoring for a “Lelouch is alive and boning C.C. all day long living a happy life with C.C.” ending (which I think seems to be the more rabid fanbase… >.> lol), but personally I think that he really took one for the world, and that is not Lelouch driving the cart at the end. He’d already made his resolve to sacrifice himself when he devised the Zero Requiem with Suzaku, C.C., and probably Orange, and Lelouch is the kind of guy that when he sets a goal, he goes for it (duh…he was Emperor of Britannia and pretty much the freakin world). He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to take the “Haha suckers I win in the end” way out after what he’s been through to have his cake and eat it too. *points at Schneizel*

To have him be alive at the end for me kinda cheapens the events that preceded it; The entire emotional realization from key characters that no, he wasn’t the megalomaniac emperor everybody thinks he is, but the savior of the world.

This image I put together of Nunnally really gets to me… not because it’s loli in chains (who is really super skinny ><), but because of what happens right after she has that look T_T

Anyway, that’s my personal view on it. I guess the ending was made for this kind of speculation to be raised across the net. Everybody has their views on it, and it doesn’t seem like any amount of persuading is working on anybody from either side (I’ve already been snapped at by the other camp at the HongFire forums, when I was just sayin something about it >.>). There is the thing with Nunnally being able to see Lelouch’s memories, thus him having the Code and reviving at some later point in time, which looks suspicious for my case, but let’s just say…the Code works in mysterious ways… >.>

ANYWAY, the point of this post was that a member from HongFire’s CGR2 discussion thread (thanks, S&T) posted this single comic page in japanese. Dunno where he got it from, but for fans of the Lelouch-is-alive ending, this is for you. I translated it so it can give you guys that warm fuzzy feeling from the ending you’ve been looking for lol. The Lelouch-is-dead camp doesn’t need anything to support it, because that’s what happened ;P (lol just kidding…*hides*)

Torn 23 – La Màscara de Schneizel

Hot mecha pilot from a popular series, now wearing a pink bunnysuit. Who am I to complain? This is Kallen from the popular tv series Code Geass R2, the second season of Lelouch of the Rebellion. This figure is a 1/8 scale PVC statue. It’s due for release on January of 2009.

Despite the weird angle and pose (well, I did find it weird from the get-go), Kallen’s face on this figurine doesn’t feel awkward unlike some of the incarnations of Yoko from Gurren Lagann or Kanu Unchou from Ikkitousen. Her oppai look just fine and one cannot help but wonder what she’s pushing down or pulling out of that cleavage. Her bunny ears are also removable.

Definitely something worth considering if you’re a big Code Geass fan. Or if you just like bunnysuit girls.

Like a sequel to hist original Code Geass Signature, “Lelouch of the Rebellion” goes for a simple style while plastering some colour in the background.. cleverly so it doesn’t intrude.

Torn 17 – El Sabor de la Terra

This episode was HUGE!! Lelouch starts his invasion on the Tokyo Settlement by creating a diversion, XingKe taking lead of the diversion. Meanwhile that, Lelouch meets up with Suzaku at the Kurugi Temple. It was just them two, alone. They both got emotional which was very good ^^! Suzaku pretty much blamed Lelouch for everything. The death of Shirley, Euphy. Lelouch felt helpless, admitting everything. Lelouch lowers himself as he sits on the ground below the towering Suzaku! Lelouch begging Suzaku to help save Nunally, so Suzaku makes him do end the war so that he will save her. And yes this was bound to happen, both are caught talking together. Britannia have been keeping an eye on Suzaku and Lelouch gets captured. The sad part of this was that Suzaku had nothing to do with it. Lelouch falls into thinking Suzaku set him up. It’s so sad for such good friends to lose their friendship because of an outside forceT_T.

Lelouch confronts his brother Schneizel. Oh no! Disgusted that my own brother is Zero blah blah. He does want the best for Lelouch however.  Guildford releases Lelouch and Lelouch is able to carry on with his recapture of Tokyo. Geassing Guildford earlier, enabled Lelouch to manipulate Guildford into thinking Lelouch is Corneila (when doing this random action). Owned I say.And yea…operations still continuing on capturing the Tokyo Settlement.

Not much fighting but we get to see Knight of One and some other Knight in action. Knight of One is a freaking Lunatic. Opens one of the Black Knights Nightmareframes so that he can see the pilot, makes the pilot fear before drilling in his drill into the pilot. Evil Vampire!

And in some other news….the first 2 dvd’s for R2 are coming out 22nd August! Good news! From the advertisment, it comes with a whole load of extra, yes sucking you all in to buy it. Character Sketches, heck just buy it if you wanna find out!
