This weekend I wanted to try something new…. Usually when I go out to take pictures I have a specific goal in mind. For example: Today I am going to take street photos. On Saturday I decided to go drive around town and take pictures with no goal in mind. This was really hard for me because I always have to have an objective when taking photos. I found it very peaceful, no pressure to get a certain shot. I also decided to come up with a new category on my blog called Photo Challenge. I plan on attempting a unique challenge every week for example: take pictures of only things that are yellow. So subscribe if you want to see how that goes. I would also like to hear your ideas for challenges…… I used to shoot for The Telescope and miss getting assignments.

Starting the day off with a bang, I was in a parking lot and a helicopter flew over hovering about 100ft above the ground for a couple minutes, everyone in the parking lot stopped to see what was going on. Turns out it was the electrical company surveying the area for any damage from a recent lightning storm.

just crusing through the hills….

Then I ended up at city hall and found something unique in one of the walls by the basketball court. Its a piece of wood .

A few more following the same theme.

I was really happy to get this train shot. When I first get to a location, as always I scan the area to see if there is anything that warrants a photo right away. I noticed the train tracks a thought it would be cool to get a train shot since I was so close to the tracks. I stood there for a minute and decided not to wait because I could be waiting there for awhile. I went down to the concrete pass where I took the photos above. Then I heard the train.. It was only a couple hundred feet away and I had to quickly figure out how to get up to the track. I wish I had a picture of where I was because its hard to explain. Anyways I manged to get up there right on time.

She said, “nice camera” I said, “thanks” and continued on her way.

Then I had to peek in on civilization.

My beast of a stomach was growling so I decided to take a lunch break.

Through the drive through window.

After lunch sitting in traffic….

I needed more reach with this shot.

Then it was off to the flower fields.

This next shot I have always wanted to capture. It is the American flag made out of flowers. First I had to find a vantage point. After venturing through suburbia, I found the spot.

A great view on the way home.

I wanted to get to the bottom of the canyon however everywhere I went there were no trespassing signs.

So all in all I had a fun time and look forward to my next challenge. You should try the same.
