I don’t mind early rising if the sun is shining. A grey drab overcast early morning ruins my blog picture.

Another exciting occurrence is this amazing moving postcard I recieved all the way from Fatty boomsticks in Tokyo. A Verner Panton postcard that is slightly 3D.  Spectacular!

So today I am paying respect to the master of design Mr Panton by dressing in a material synonymous with his era… polyester.

O lookbook da colecção Primavera/Verão 2010 da Levi’s é um hino à juventude, tendo como inspiração a vida universitário dos anos 60 do campus de Berkeley, em São Francisco (EUA).

Boyfriend’s jeans de cores apelativas, camisas aos quadrados transformadas em túnicas, looks rebeldes a ecoar o espírito reivindicativo…um novo colegial vai invadir a primavera!

Hurrah, a cool change has come through.

1. I can wear jeans and not die of heat exhaustion

Ce soir, une pub Levi’s réalisée par Michel Gondry – la réalisation est à couper le souffle, et c’est une vraie histoire à elle toute seule.

It’s always funny when you like an artist and then they pop up as the ‘one to watch,’ or ‘the next big thing.’  Playing the penultimate night of the Levi’s One To Watch season at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen (fast becoming one of my favourite venues) Mpho fit this description.  Despite singing with a sore throat she showed a lot more people they should be watching her too.

Despite being classified as ‘ubran’ by some Mpho is anything but – and I think the ‘urban’ label is a disrespect to her on all levels because the music is so much more.  Kicking off with Runaway, a fairly wholesome number with pace she never looked back.  Her songs are have that rocky feel long associated with live soul music, something best showcased on See Me Now.  Lead guitars pingging along to her punchy vocals.

The sore throat did start to crackle through at times.  However her passionate display covered over the apparent cracks neatly.  After about 5 songs you could tell it was getting a bit too much for her vocally and she called time on the set a little early.  Luckily that was after her cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, which as always was cracking.

Oh and Box and Lots, the lead single (which to be honest I am not a fan of) sounded immeasurably better live.

If anyone deserves a good 2010 it’s Mpho, and if this is how she gets down when running at about 60%, running at 100% she should be unstoppable.

Voici une opération de communication très créative et très originale réalisé par Levis impliquant deux outils de communication innovants, à savoir le street marketing et les réseaux sociaux.

Le principe de cette opération est à la fois intéressant et judicieux. En effet, des mannequins employées par la maison Levis on été dispersé dans les villes australiennes de Melbourne et Sydney , qui, avec leur iPhone envoient des indices sur le lieu où elles se trouvent, directement via leur compte Twitter.

Les followers participants à cette opération ont pour but de repérer les différents mannequins grâces aux informations et indices dont ils disposent sur Twitter. Si une des mannequins est découverte, il suffit simplement de lui dire « Ce sont des Levi’s» pour repartir avec un des 200 jeans de la marque mis en jeu.

Cette opération unique en son genre a réalisé l’un des plus beau buzz de cette fin d’année. Près de 300 000 personnes ont été exposé à cette campagne sur Twitter. Suite à ce succès, la marque Levis envisage déjà de recommencer prochainement cette opération à Perth et Auckland.

I’m not a high maintenance type of person.  No, really, I’m not.  Stop laughing.  I appreciate the finer things in life, but where clothes are concerned my idea of “finer things” is a cozy LLBean sweater and some sturdy and comfy cowboy boots.  Quality over quantity and all that.

I’ve shared my affection for 518’s in the past, but I realized just how singularly devoted I’d become when I went into the Levi’s outlet a couple weeks ago.  An employee greeted me with “Hi can I help you find anything today?”

All I had to say was: “518’s”, and he pointed me in the right direction.   I grabbed a couple pairs of size 5’sand a couple pairs of size 7’s (I’m right between sizes; since every pair of jeans is slightly different I try to find longish biggish 5’s or smallish 7’s.), tried them on, and that was that.

Two pairs in hand, I headed to the checkout.

I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes.

This brings my total to seven pairs of 518’s, five that are in “wear out of the house” condition and two that probably aren’t.  I love these jeans.  I’m curvy, and the low rise accentuates them in all the right places (with absolutely no muffin top).   They’re amazingly comfy, and the quality is superb.  What’s not to love?

As far as jeans are concerned, me and my 518’s are NOT high maintenance.

(Let’s just not talk about “high maintenance” regarding tops and bras and shawls and shoes, mm’kay?)

Ok, so I’m actually going to post a TV commercial today.  Levi’s new Go Forth marketing campaign really grabbed my interest.  The commercial using Walt Whitman’s “Pioneers! O Pioneers!” was the first one that I saw and it has been on my mind off and on in the past week.  I have always like this poem, and while only about a third of the poem is quoted it grabs the essence.  Coupled with the frenetic, rough imagery and sporadic gunshot snare drum raps, the commercial almost makes me want to buy some jeans (I’m susceptible to marketing even if I would hope that I’m not).  Of course, if you’ve known me for any length of time you would know that I don’t wear jeans.  I haven’t for over a decade now.  Cindi has tried to change that.  I gave them an honest shot, but I’ve never found comfortable jeans for me.

The beauty and energy of youth to see what there is to be seen is the reason why I’m posting it here.  More than purchase any product this ad makes me want to tramp to the wilderness (both natural and urban), wander far and wide, grab every day while I can.

Katsui graduated from Central Saint Martins College after studying at Parsons The New School for Design. Yagi graduated from Doshisha University and Central Saint Martins College.
The brand, mintdesigns was launched in 2001. They have been in Tokyo Collection since ‘03 S/S. The awards they won include the Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005. In 2007, mintdesigns garage store opened in Shibuya PARCO. They presented their collection in the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT THIS PLAY! show. In 2008, they presented the opening show at São Paulo Fashion Week for ‘09 S/S. Both designers currently hold positions as guest professors at the Faculty of Art and Design at Osaka Seikei University. In 2009 they presented their collection at the Milano Salone TOKYO FIBER ‘09.Mint Designs turned out a dainty crop of dresses featuring details such as shimmery stripes, textured fabric and quirky graphics. One frock featured a darling print of tiny Charlie Chaplins, while another showcased circular cutouts along the sides.

This is an ad from a men’s magazine that’s part of a really big campaign for Levi’s.

This campaign is pretty much all ads like this – billboards, print ads and commercials.  They all feature people walking away from the camera in natural settings.  They all have an “out west” kind of feel.  I’ve seen one with a woman, but all the rest were men.  All the ones I’ve seen are white models (one might be Latino).  The quote is always the same.

This campaign has been widely criticized.  A billboard in a subway had the phrase “slaves did” added to it by someone passing by.  I must admit that this campaign made me think similar thoughts the first time I saw it.

I’m sick, so I have no additional thoughts to add to this right now.  I thought it was worth putting up here, though, and would love to hear what other people’s reactions to it are.
