The fact that Jennifer Lawrence + The Hunger Games together won 6 out of 7, of the awards they were nominated for at the People’s Choice Awards, last Wednesday, 9/01/13. Awards won included: Favourite Movie (The Hunger Games), Favourite Movie Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Favourite Action Movie (The Hunger Games), Favourite Face of Heroism (Jennifer Lawrence), Favourite Movie Franchise (The Hunger Games) and Favourite On-Screen Chemistry (Josh/Jen/Liam – The Hunger Games). I’m so proud of them! Plus, Jen was nominated for an Oscar for her newest movie Silver Lining Playbook! 

I learnt that Supernatural would be returning to Australian TV’s. Yes, there I was, sitting there at dinner, when an ad for the return of Season 8 came on, and I started fangirling, as I saw the boys in all there glory! Super excited for this! If you live in Australia, Supernatural Season 8 returns Monday 21st of January, 8:30pm, Channel 11. See you there Oh, and Supernatural also won two  awards at the People’s Choice Awards – Favourite TV Fan Following and Favourite Sci/Fi Fantasy TV Show- yay, go us!

I saw Life of Pi. The award-winning movie, directed by Ang Lee and based on the best selling novel by Yann Martel. The movie was completely different from what I expected, and the ending, well, it blew me out of the water. The ending shocked me, it was so unexpected, it was a twist in the tale I didn’t see coming. But the visuals were stunning, even though I didn’t see it in 3D. The scenery and the way Lee, tells a story is magical. If you haven’t heard about Life of Pi, you must be living under a rock. I recommend you see it, just once at least. I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but you just have to watch it, to understand all the hype around it, and to say that I saw it. 

 I went to Hanging Rock, last weekend, after watching  ’Picnic at Hanging Rock’, the 1975 movie by Peter Weir. The movie is based on the book of the same name, by Australian author, Joan Lindsay, published in 1967. I visited the popular attraction with my family, and a few family friends. It was a blast. We spent a couple of hours, trekking up to the rock base, and exploring all the nooks and crannies. After our visit there, we had lunch at a local fish and chip shop, and did a little shopping. A very good but tiring day

Ever since Karl Marxxx released that little Communist Manifesto thing, capitalism has been searching for its answer. We’ve known that our cause was right and that our economic theory could totally beat Marxxx’s economic theory in a three out of five street brawl scenario; the proof is in this map of the world that does not feature the words “Soviet Union” anywhere on it.

DAT STACHE THO.

But we have struggled to articulate capitalism’s overriding ideology, and thus have failed to make a compelling case to impoverished parts of the world where residents see the ascent of China and feel drawn toward Marxxxism.

Then, Miley happened. Miley Cyrus, arguably America’s foremost mind on inexplicably being rich, has released her first foray into dubstep, and it is a glorious defense of American capitalism. It is, in short, The Capitalist Manifesto.

Officially the song is named “Decisions,” in a reference to the decision that must be made about whether to make penis with Joseph Schumpeter or Joseph Stalin’s mustache. As we all know, this is an important decision that every first grader must make.

The manifesto is technically produced by Israeli musician/DJ/thing/dubstepper  Borgore and features Miley on “vocals.” Israel pretty much almost borders Austria, making this a clear allusion to Austrian economist Friedrich Hayek, who is largely considered the abusive stepfather of capitalist.

Now, at this point, those of you who listened to song (I FIGURED OUT HOW TO EMBED, I’M A SAVANT) will probably have noticed that cake is a prominent player in the song.  If you chose to abstain from watching – after all, not listening to Miley is what my Health teacher meant when he said “abstinence is the only way to avoid STD’s” – just know that the line “bitches love cake” is featured prominently in The Manifesto. Released just months after Rihanna first popularized cake in her song “Birthday Cake,” it is apparent to anyone listening that Miley simply stole Rihanna’s idea and started selling it. If that’s not capitalism at its heart, then I’m not a savant.

This happens in the video. Deal with it.

However, the most capitalist aspect of this song is in the lyrics themselves. And while the song has only like four lines (of coke?!?!), they say all that needs to be said to defend capitalism: “I want it all, so I get it all/ I wanna eat the whole cake/I’ m not sharing, I’m not sharing/ You should have to learned how to bake.” In just 29 glorious words, Miley lays out capitalism at its core.

In capitalist societies, if you want it all, you can just take it all so long as you were born to a father who got rich singing about a biologically impossible “achey-breaky” coronary disease. If anyone questions this, blame them for their troubles. Tell them they are acting like “victims” looking for a handout, and say that they should have learned how to bake. And, if anyone even THINKS of discussing redistribution, simply yell “I’M NOT SHARING” until they die and go away.

In short, Miley lays out in one chorus what Mitt Romney just spent a billion dollars tryna hide. She succinctly and eloquently explains how American capitalism can be summarized by one simple phrase: “Bitches love cake.”

Well played, Miley. Well played.

Dear Miley Cyrus,

What the fuck is wrong with you? Is this because of Liam’s blossoming success? I know you haven’t done much but hoe around with penis cakes since Hannah Montana, but isn’t this a little too much? What about Liam’s career? The Hunger Games, a famous superhero brother (THOR CAN LAY THE HAMMAH! ), and being in a film with Chuck Norris, it would make me want to make reckless decisions too. But by reckless, I mean take a pole dancing class, make a cameo in a terrible sitcom *cough* two broke girls *cough*, go onto a higher drug besides the all holy cannabis like cocaine or if you already like the white angel try heroin maybe call up Demi and try whip its, tweet at Brittany Spears and ask what it’s like to have your life fall apart and that you’re thinking of picking up a razor.. to the head, or maybe do what Paris Hilton did once she hit 30 and become a DJ in da club. See bebe, we aren’t so different you and I. If there’s a God which I’m pretty sure there has to be someone who’s responsible for all my fucked glory, he created us with similar rounded faces. When we smile we smile way too big, our cheeks get big and puffy, our eyes somewhat resembling an unattractive asian, we can never EVER work the pixie cut or whatever the half shaven mess you created. I’ve accepted the fact that you’ll never be a classy lady/beacon of chic/fashion icon, but I’ve always had a glimmer of hope that you’ll put away the camera and start being a big girl. I mean, it doesn’t look THAT bad. There are plenty of chic talented spirited women who rock the short hair way better then you, you need to call someone (maybe me) and have a grounding talk. You need to come back from Mars and REALIZE this isn’t okay. I’ve seen enough episodes of Oprah to know that self mutilation is a serious problem with women, it’s okay to seek help. We all have problems. We all make mistakes. We all are humans. Except Lady Gaga, she’s too much of crazy/beautiful to be from this planet. Maybe she created us? Anyways I love to hate you or be your frenemy. Love ya, don’t mean it. Bai.

Sales of bows and arrows are bound to increase. It’s interesting to note that killing with the same weapon wasn’t much good for sales when it was used in “We Need To Talk About Kevin”.

But this is a kiddie movie, aimed at the “Twilight” set, so bows and arrows are really, really cool. if you’re the parent of tweens, you’ll be pestered for this gift.

Do think carefully about whether your child is a hero or a psychopath, before you give in.

I started looking at my watch about 30 minutes in, when I got fascinated by one character’s facial hair, which seemed to be in the shape of Batman’s signal, slightly abstracted. Wes Bentley?

If you love reality TV and video games, you’ll adore all 144 minutes of this.

All those awful names that sound like text speak gone nuts! Peeta! In the dystopic future, people spell Peter as if they have British accents and they can’t spell?

This is not the worst of the many, many annoyances, for any sentient being.

It’s the future. It’s bad. Twenty-four teenages need to go to “The Hunger Games” each year to make up for nasty rebellions in their 12 home zones. Only one will come back alive.

One piece of good news is that girls are equal to boys in the future. That should simplify all those pesky sporting debates, taking place in the present.

Katniss sounds like something I should buy my cat, but Jennifer Lawrence brings a great deal of joy and energy to the role.

You need to accept that Katniss would prefer Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) over Gale (Liam Hensworth) and you need to suspend disbelief about hunger – at best, these teens are slightly snack-deprived, but no more – but do ride along.

There are some great joys here from Donald Sutherland’s eyebrows, in a new solo role and from Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz.

Just for one, Woody Harrelson makes me forget “Cheers”.

Of the kids, Amandla Stenberg stands out as being criminally pretty and very engaging.

Brooke Bundy’s makeup deserves an Oscar but Gary Ross needs some of his unending time trimmed, in his directing. 

For a kiddie power movie, ths would need to pull me in as a adult a whole lot more than just thinking “ooh, there’s a WW2 film convention” or “that scene is just like a Western”. And the music would need to be less derivative. I was humming along to the Hollies “Bus Stop” during the second to last song and the tunes matched up.

There are some great moments here, but these are only moments. If I were you, I would skip the movies and the first two Suzanne Collins’ books and go straight to reading “Mockingjay”. which brings all the strands of “plot” together and has terrific scenes and characters.

If “John Carter” had half as many dolls, fast food toy things and publicity, it would have done a lot better than this movie.

Okay, I am a tad contrarian and resent the huge publicity and critical gush around this film. But if I hadn’t looked at my watch quite so often, I would have enthused more.

I don’t like video game style killing. And I don’t like soft focus. And there is WAY too much of both here. Further, creepy cosmetics and sets make me want to rebel against everything.

This will not trouble my top 10 or video collection. The Stratford Picturehouse audience were beyond restless into wandering around with phone apps, but telling each other it was great, afterwards. That’s the power of advertising.

The emperor has no clothes. Jennifer and Liam and Woody are terrific. Let’s put them into a decent picture, that doesn’t have me looking at my watch every five minutes.

See this if you are a slave to mass communications and critcal feeding frenzy. Otherwise, just say no.

The Hunger Games premiers at midnight tonight, and in case you aren’t aware, it is based on a book series. In a post apocalyptic world, teenagers fight to the death for entertainment purposes.

So before the first movie is even released plans have gone ahead to have the same writer  mister Simon Beaufoy write the sequel to this book series turned movie. I guess they think it’ll do good ever since the book was said to be turned into a movie series the book franchise has gotten bigger and grown to a wild variety of people all over the world. Could this be the next Harry Potter or Twilight? Well with the Hunger Games coming out on March 23, 2012. It is said that the sequel will hit theaters on November 22, 2013. Sounds about right for a book turned movie series. Along with that the original cast from the first movie such as Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson and Liam Hensworth will all be returning the new movie. Dont miss The Hunger Games hitting the big screen on March 23, 2012 and Catching Fire hopefully coming to the big screen November 22, 2013.

Being siblingless, my childhood required a large amount of imagination to occupy myself day in and day out. Every day was a barbie wedding, my dress up clothes allotted themselves to becoming a princess more often than not, and as soon as I could understand how letters turned into words I always had a book in my hand.

This is a completely false image of me. Possibly the only time I picked up a baseball bat in my life.

My world as a child didn’t consist of just me, attending private school for 3 years, then homeschooled for 2, then the sheltered new kid in 5th grade in public school. My world was one where I was Nancy Drew, the Boxcar children, and the Babysitters’ Club Little Sister (her name was Karen). I wasn’t alone…I created my own world.

I had friends, of course, but I was naturally more shy and therefore more comfortable lost in a book, from after school until bedtime. This is still the case today. I’m more balanced socially, but my favorite thing to do still is kick my feet up near an open window and lose track of time lost in the world of a book.

I wouldn’t say that such a long span of time in my imagination hurt me at all, while it did cause me to be an idealist for most of my middle through high school years. It was crushing for me to break into reality, to find out that the world can be a very cruel place, but ultimately, it shaped me to become who I am.

As a young adult I often don’t have time for books anymore. When I do, it’s a constant struggle to find something age-appropriate that is enjoyable. “Young adult” books are actually targeted at teens. “Adult woman” books are almost always about middle aged women. So my choices are usually somewhere between the mistreated, misunderstood 17 year old going to prom, and the divorced career woman believing in herself and making her way in the world…occasionally solving a mystery of who killed her long lost friend.

You can see my dilemma. Somehow, being super cool, this predicament has drawn me more towards “young adult” science fiction. Not being the biggest fan of unrealistic romance novels where Barbara finds true love the 3rd time around while on vacation at the beach with a doctor who loves her 2 children and  her for who she is, I do allow unrealisticity (I did indeed make up that word. I do what I want.) in a world that isn’t actually supposed to be real. Hence, science fiction.

It might help that my mom brought me up watching Star Wars as well.

It began with Harry Potter. THAT certainly kept me occupied for a while. Thank you, JK Rowling for writing 47 novels with 10 billion pages each. Then the movies were also something to look forward to.

Then in college I was introduced to Twilight. Skeptically, I borrowed the first book from the library, extremely hesitant that I would enjoy a book about vampires. And then, there was this dream guy who adored this average girl and of course I was hooked. As you’re reading this, you’re picturing Rob Pattinson. Well, cut that out. The Edward that I began reading about existed before Rob even heard of the movie. This Edward was someone completely different and completely perfect. MY Edward.

Then the whole Kristen Stewart casting mess happened with that directing of super-dramatic, ridiculous acting, and my beloved book got a bad name. I can see how people feel this way. I would if I hadn’t read the books a year before the movie was made. I mean, even I feel that way now, and I’m pretty loyal.

Life happened, and I met SG. Then more life and we graduated, got married, moved, got a job, settled in, and I found myself with a little bit of time on my hands. I got a kindle and began reading this book I’d heard so much about, “The Hunger Games”. The concept sounded super sketchy at first and I couldn’t understand what all the hype could possibly be about.

I read each book of the series in a day and a half. I had read all 3 in 4 days. And that was because I tried to read them slowly.

There’s a girl, and she is thrown into a horrible circumstance with a boy, a boy who claims to all the world that he’s in love with her, yet she’s not certain if that’s the truth or he’s actually trying to kill her. But no story would be complete without an equally appealing other guy. The girl grew up with this other guy and they have a connection that’s indescribable. And this other guy is watching her entire relationship develop with this questionable guy on live tv. It’s a page-turning love triangle set to the backdrop of ruthless murder.

I spent the entire series undecided on which guy I liked best for her. It was a pretty big deal. I know SG was torn up about it.

Well, The Hunger Games is going to be released as a film on March 23, 2012. I have no idea where I’ll be a year from now but I can tell you where I’ll be on March 23

And so in the past month they’ve been casting the main characters for the movie. Two weeks ago came Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, the lead female, which I mentioned in a post last week. I had no issues with this casting. Kristen Stewart was obnoxious as my last favorite book became a movie, unable to act with the exact same facial expression for every emotion: uncomfortable disgust. Sad: uncomfortable disgust. Excited: Uncomfortable disgust. In love: uncomfortable disgust. That’s annoying, right?

Yeah.

The Hunger Games is NOT Twilight, but for me, its the first book that I’ve cared about since then. Katniss does have brown hair, but that’s easy to dye Jennifer Lawrence’s hair. I’m just glad that she’s actually believably pretty and can act.

Well, over the weekend I began obsessing about the casting of Peeta and Gale.

It was expected to be announced today, and so I’ve done by best to not solely anxiously anticipate TUESDAY, but SG can tell you, I pretty much failed.

Gale is the guy that Katniss grew up with. He’s pretty hot stuff, too, cuz all the girls love him at school, but Katniss is just thankful that she has him as a good hunting partner, as she’s too concerned with providing for her starving family to even think about love. In the later books, Gale becomes a pretty tough character. He’s often very cold and strong in his personality. He’s fast, intelligent, and hard-headed. This is pretty much what Gale looked like in my head-

Tall, dark-haired, a woodsy type of guy, not clean cut, but rough and manly. (Taylor Kitsch)

Alright then there’s Peeta. Peeta is the son of the baker in their district. He’s not necessarily lived a life of luxury, but hasn’t been as bad off as Katinss and Gale. He’s openly sweet and vulnerable, kind and innocent, and charming enough to make Katniss lose her head a little. This is how I pictured Peeta-

Softer than Gale, described as having wavy blond hair, and of medium build. I pictured him boyishly cute with a sweet smile. (Lucas Till)

Well this is who they chose for Gale and Peeta.

Gale is Liam Hensworth and Peeta is Josh Hutcherson. My first reaction is…if they had to choose these 2 guys, then if anything they should at least be backwards.

Liam Hensworth….

Gale is NOT a big teddy bear. This guy looks soft and sweet and loveable. That is not Gale at all.

Josh Hutcherson…

Peeta does not smirk. This guy looks cocky and like he thinks he’s so smooth. That is not Peeta at all.

Fail in the looks department. I’m banking on an awesome dye job for Josh Hutcherson and hopefully he doesn’t go around with that smirk the whole movie. Seriously. I’m going to give them a chance because obviously they cast them for their acting, but I’m more than a little disappointed in their decision today.

At least Colten is concerned. SG is loving being at my parents house because he gets to play Mario Kart.

Anyways, that’s my Tuesday and my life sadness. Hopefully you got some enjoyment out of my pain and can see the ultimate injustice that is Liam & Josh as Gale & Peeta. Let me know if you agree!

Miley Cyrus’ dad didn’t approve of Justin Gaston and now he doesn’t approve of Miley’s new Boyfriend Liam according to oceanup.com. Billy still isn’t comfortable with them dating even though Liam is closer to Miley’s age thatn ex Justin Gaston. Miley’s dad is worried that the couple’s relation ship is moving too far, too fast. This has led to conflict between Miley and her Dad and is causing alot of conflict in the family.

Dang! I hope every thing gets better!

P:S: Demi will be dressed up as John Smith for halloween and will acompany Miley who is dressing up as Pocahontas.

Liam Hemsworth who is rumoured to be dating Miley Cyrus denied that they were going out. At dinner on Monday Night in Sydney Liam told Foxtel TV: “We just made a movie together. That’s it.” But the two were caught making out at a restaurant and have been on several dates. Do YOU think that they are really dating?

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hensworth have been dating for 5 months according to E! online. At a private after-party at Katsuya apparently they were all “lovey-Dovey”.   Her ex-BF Justin Gaston didn’t come to Miley’s sold out concert. Instead he was across town at Miley’s BFF Mandy Jiroux concert where Mandy was performing with her group The Beach Girl5 where Justin was in the audience. When asked why he chose Mandy’s concert instead of Miley’s, Justin told E! News  that he “didn’t even know Miley’s tour was in town.” What do you think will happen to Miley and Liam in the future?
