To get a marriage license in the Greater Phoenix area, specifically Maricopa County, an engaged coup

To get a marriage license in the Greater Phoenix area, specifically Maricopa County, an engaged couple must appear in person together at one of the Justice Court offices listed below and each must present a photo ID. You may be required to provide a driver’s license as proof of age. You must appear in person to obtain a marriage license in Maricopa County. Marriage licenses are usually not available online.

The fee for a marriage license, which is valid throughout Arizona, is $72.00 payable by cash or check with a driver’s license or bank guarantee card or credit card. If you are purchasing a license at the Justice Courts, they accept checks, money orders, or cashiers checks. No cash or credit cards are accepted.

A copy of a divorce decree is not required. No blood test is required.

It is recommended that you also purchased one or more “Certified” copies of the marriage license (about $26.00 each) to be sent to you after the license is filed by the Officiant with the Clerk of the Court.

Social Security requires it from a Bride who will be changing her name. It will be sent to you about 6 to 8 weeks (it could be less depending upon which month you get married) after the County Court Clerk records it. Larry James will file the license the first business day after the wedding. For directions to the North Phoenix Social Security Card Center, click here.

If you have a “passport” and your name will be or has been legally changed due to marriage, you will need a certified copy of your marriage license to submit along with one or more official forms to have your name changed on your passport. For more information and links to download the forms you will need, click here.

You will receive your marriage license and can be married on the same day you apply for it. An unused marriage license expires one year from the date of purchase.

If you are under the age of 18, you must either have a notarized parental consent form or have your parents accompany you, present the proper identification, and sign the parental consent form in front of the clerk issuing your license.

If you are age 16 – 17 identification and one of the following documents showing proof of age is needed: a) certified copy of birth certificate; b) current driver’s license; c) state or military I.D. card; or d) current passport

If you are age 15 or under, you must also have a court order. To obtain a court order you must contact Conciliation Court at: 602-506-3296.

Most Justice Court offices are open until 5:00 p.m. MST, however you are encouraged to arrive by 4 p.m. to complete the paperwork.

Click here for information on “Arizona Covenant Marriage License Requirements.”

Because days, times and fees are subject to change without notice, you are encouraged to call to verify days and times of office hours and form of acceptable payment before you go.

For a list of all of the places in the Greater Phoenix area where you can get a Marriage License, click here.
As of tomorrow I’m no longer a licensed driver. I have to mail my drivers license to the minis

As of tomorrow I’m no longer a licensed driver. I have to mail my drivers license to the ministry. What will I do for the most depressing month of the year?

I’ve been officially medication free for three days now. I weened myself off them after the rehab woman told me I’m numb of all emotion & she wants me off them before I come. I told my shrink this & he said I need to be on them. Naturally, I disobey. Yesterday I felt like a pixelated, skipping dvd. The electric shocks I sometimes experience came once about every 2 minutes. Like the beginning of a panic attack lasting a few seconds. I liked the feeling at first but by the end of the day I couldn’t even stand to be awake. I’m experiencing the same electricity still today. I haven’t slept in the past four nights. My bed being drenched with sweat from my head to my toes. Nightmares coming out of my ass. Only to wake up, realize I am who I am, living the life I’m living, desperately trying to get back into a nightmare for relief from this. I’m exhausted.

Yesterday I read an entire book. Douglas Coupland’s Shampoo Planet. It was an easy read trying so hard to be clever, difficult and profound. Dull at moments yet I polished it off in three sittings totaling maybe six hours.

I started Before the Mortgage last night, a collection of short stories about the bridge between college graduate and adulthood. Review coming soon.

At least I have some concentration. More than I can say being on medication.

Lagunatic made a big step today.

We moved to North Carolina almost 6 years ago (I’ll tell you the story later, probably sometime in January) not knowing exactly how long we’d be here. Jimmy told me that if at any time I wanted to go home we’d do just that. Now, there were plenty of times I could have tested him on this, but I wanted to be a good wife/partner and so instead of acting like a petulant child I just drank copious amounts of vodka – straight – instead……. it didn’t even have to be cold (which should illustrate the severity of my pain). As time went on, and his work suffered some ups and downs, there were many conversations about moving to London, or Hong Kong, or Miami, or Atlanta, or Dubai, or back to New York. I was always looking for salvation in the form of a transfer…..alas, it never came.

Anyway, neither of us had ever owned a car before (we had always lived in places where they were more of a hinderance than a help) but upon moving to Charlotte it became a necessity so we each got one. My driver’s license was still out of Florida. I never saw the point of switching it to New York since I didn’t drive there – it was really just for identification. Luckily, my birthday is in December so whenever my license was about to expire I’d just re-new it while I was down visiting my parents for Christmas.

In North Carolina you are supposed to get a new license within sixty days of moving. Well, today, just a couple of days in excess of the requisite sixty, I finally went for my license. I was nervous about it! I know a lot of people who have failed the test and since I suffer from an acute case of babybrainitis I didn’t trust my memory or ability to retain the information presented in the North Carolina Driver’s Manual. EEK! On top of this, I have a cold that has rendered me thick headed.

So, in I go to the local DMV…..for the third time this week, mind you. Monday I went in to pick up the manual. Tuesday I was planning to do the test but got caught up with my other errands and then realized I had forgotten to bring all my paperwork. Today I remembered the paperwork (after almost forgetting it again…babybrainitis, you bitch) and raced out the door as soon as Jimmy walked in from work. I was about five minutes out of my garage when I remembered that I’d forgotten the checkbook. They don’t take credit cards at the DMV. Of course, as soon as I pull into the parking lot of the DMV I realize I’d forgotten to go to an ATM. HOW CAN YOU FORGET SOMETHING TWICE IN TEN MINUTES?? No Darwin Award for me today, apparently. Off I sped, spinning tires and plowing curbs, to find a Green Machine. Back I came, breaking the sound barrier, ready to test my driving knowledge.

The wait was relatively short. I spent some time interacting with the other people in the waiting room. One woman covered the ears of her sixteen year old son….I guess she found me inappropriate. Or maybe I should remember that saying, “Holy Fuck I can’t fucking believe I forgot my fucking money on the fucking way over here! I’m going to eat some pasta tonight to thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that I was able to find that ATM in time!!” tends to upset the locals……they don’t like it when you thank someone other than Jesus. Anyway, I was happy to find the other stray New York Ex-pat – a truck driver who’s wife hadn’t spoken one single word to him since he dragged her ass here back in 2002. I exchanged phone numbers with her (she was sitting there all seething and mute) and we’re going to get together one weekend… our plans are to don some camo and go bagel hunting – we’ll know we’ve hit pay dirt if we find someone who knows what a schmear is. Silver lining, people!!!

So, my number pops up rudely interupting the conversation I was having with the local cattle rancher cum teetering-on-broke commercial real estate titan cum ex-Christmas Parade organiser. He said his cattle cost more to keep than to sell. I told him to look into soy. He said if it worked out he’d give me a cut. I gave him my number. He hid it from his wife. And, off I went, filled with feelings of impending doom, to the examiner’s chair. I passed her my paperwork. She asked me I was worthy of being a Southener. I meekly replied that I sometimes enjoyed a slice of pecan pie. She nodded and administered the vision test. I was happy I could read the first line. So was she. Next, she gave me the road sign test. I got ten out of eleven. She admonished me for messing up the school zone sign. I told her about the time I pulled up to a guy in a corvette who’d been speeding in a school zone (he was speeding, it pissed me off so I caught up to him at the next light and honked my horn. He looked over and I gave him my sweetest smile. He, excitedly, rolled down his window. I asked him if he realized he was going forty-five miles an hour in a twenty mile zone and if he’d seen the school light flashing. He got red in the face and quickly rolled up his window. Jackass) and she softened. Like buttah. All of a sudden it was like I was having tea (cold and sweet) with Paula Deen.

Finally, I was sent to do the written (actually, you tap a computer screen) portion. I messed up two questions that I KNEW the answers to and was very annoyed with myself. After pulling myself together I completed the test with a passing grade of 80%. Jimmy says that if passing grade is 70% anything over 71% means you wasted too much time studying….I guess I wasted 9% of my time. I wonder who I can bill for it.

‘Paula Deen’ asked me if I’d passed I answered in the affirmative and she took my picture. I paid my $32 and left the building with a hot little certificate of authenticity in my trembling hands.

Getting into my car I quickly called home to tell Jimmy. When he answered I could barely hear him over Julian screaming, “MOMMY!!! DID YOU WIN, DID YOU WIN???????”

Yes, baby…..Mommy won the battle.

(but, I think I’m losing the war).

I had a meeting with the folks at the rehab centre I’m supposed to be going to. I have to attend three A.A. meetings a week to get in for January 6th. I’ve been to five meetings so far. At the first one I almost walked out because it seemed like a god cult. If you read the 12 steps, most of them have to do with god, a higher power or what have you. It seemed like a religious program. I’ve ignored the god stuff and I’ve found this program actually is helping me, even after only five meetings. The people who attend seem overly nice, handing out their phone numbers & saying, “Call anytime, even in the middle of the night.” It’s weird, I like it I think, odd.

In other news, my license has been suspended. It took two months for the paperwork to come from the ministry of transportation after my physician ‘told on me’. The paper says something along the lines of… I’m unsafe to drive due to alcohol abuse, my mental state or retardation. One of the three. Or all three. Retard. I’m weighing calling my work & saying I can’t work until after rehab. How will I even get to work if I work all through December? I will have to go back on unemployment insurance & be housebound again. How will I get to these A.A. meetings? Will someone there pick me up? This is such a hassle. The time has passed when I should have had my license suspended. Two months passed. Why now? Annoyance.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions on licensing and renewal/upgrade lately, so I though I would answer those now.

The first thing to know is that when you purchase XLGL you get a serial number. Associated with that serial number is an expiration date. The serial number grants you the right to use any version of XLGL released up to the expiration date. It also grants you the right to access support up to the same date.

When you reach the expiration date, you can still use XLGL. The only thing that changes is that you do not have access to new release of XLGL.

You never need to pay for a particular upgrade for XLGL. Either your updates and support subscription is valid or it’s not. If it is, you can download and install at will. If not, then you need to renew.

At the moment of this writing, renewing is 199$ for 1 year of access to updates and support. This price is for one serial number, independently of the number of installation license associated with it. Whether you have a license for 1 computer or 5 computers, you pay a maximum of 199$.

Speaking of installed licenses, XLGL can be installed on one computer plus either a home computer or a laptop, for a total of two installations. Additional license can be purchased and associated with the same serial number at a discounted price (99$ right now).

After either your initial purchase or renewal, you must activate XLGL to synchronise it with our Activation Database. XLGL may ask you to activate or you can activate manually by going to XLGL > About… and clicking the Activate button.

Any other questions on licensing/activation? Please let me know.

Just today I received the Install Disc from your fulfillment center in Illinois, which is very speed

Just today I received the Install Disc from your fulfillment center in Illinois, which is very speedy. I felt I would be wise to protect my investment with the small additional expense of an install CD.

The updates are super fast with the Premium Suite, and the Firewall is much less “in your face” than other firewalls which is good for my wife. I am a programmer and I enjoy interacting with a verbose firewall, but most non tech folks do not.

My question is this: In the event that her old machine crashes, I presume that I am free to reinstall Avira on a replacement machine, and that my only obligation as a user is to have it installed and active on only ONE machine at a time. Am I correct in these assumptions? I assume that every time Avira downloads or scans, your servers are aware of the license and IP address and all of that, which would make sense to control the legitimate use of the license and prevent abuse.

Several other machine in my extended family are running free Avira, and I want to report that updates are very fast and reliable. I have only had to resort to a manual update perhaps twice in the past 2 months, and those are quite speedy when they are necessary.

I post what follows simply in the spirit of friendly readable chat because we do get to know each other in these forums (but I am not seeking Ubuntu support in this post)

Regarding my Ubuntu experiments, last night at midnight, I totally crashed my Ubuntu install by experimenting with two different forms of backup,, one a tar to root, and the other a Simple Backup installed via synaptic manager, which places a mysterious folder /var/backup which is unmoveable except by some form of sudo command. I think I crashed it because I did a sudo Nautilus to launch the file manager GUI with root privileges. It did work and let me delete the /backup.tar.gz, but when I rebooted, I got fatal error messages. I realize that this forum is not the place to ask for help on such matters, but I just wanted to also let reader know my latest adventure. I stayed up all night and in 7 hours did a complete Ubuntu reinstall, based upon my elaborate notes in my wordpress blog. And I took elaborate notes on the step by step REINSTALL process, which was a better install because I learned from my first mistakes and so perhaps it is a sounder system now with ext4 rather than ext3, and the installer did its own disk format and partitioning, which did not occur during the first install.

I found the instructions for Avira install under Linux too daunting, involving kernel rebuilds, which I yet lack the skills to undertake. I did find an easy Avast install with a .deb (Debian) which is what Ubuntu likes. But it did some rather strange things both in my Wubi Ubuntu under Windows and my pure Ubuntu machine. I have decided that I do not really need antivirus or firewall on the Ubuntu machine, since each exotic program and install runs the risk to trashing the system. As far as I can see from my readings, the main reason for a linux virus scan is to protect Windows users who might receive emails, but I do not forward many emails with attachments. And Ubuntu is suppose to be farily sound with regard to firewall issues by the default nature of its install. And, now that I know I can restore the system in 7 hours, I can somewhat affort to risk not doing system backups and just backing up as much data as possible, or if I am doing a lot of MySQL Apache PhP, then just building scripts as I go, which would automatically recreate databases.

I do think I will get a large (64 gig) flash drive and practice with their option for an Ubuntu bootable flash, once I have combed google for feedback on the procedure..

Thanks, Avira Forum Members, for all your great help. I am spending a lot of time now in IRC Ubuntu chat using Konversation client, and there are usually 300 people in the channel from around the world at any time, so I take every opportunity to praiise Avira and this forum.

“Flower Mound, TX (November 21, 2009) – FUNimation® Entertainment today announced that it has acquired home entertainment, broadcast and digital rights to the 12 episode action anime series “Sekirei” from Aniplex.

Based on the manga of the same name only available in Japan, the anime is directed by Keizou Kusakawa.

ABOUT SEKIREI

Minato Sahashi is extremely intelligent, yet his inability to cope well under pressure has led to his failing the college entrance exam – twice. As a result he has been branded a loser. One day he meets a girl named Musubi as she is being chased by two bandits and his life changes forever. The girl runs but takes him with her and soon finds that Minato, while unknown to him, is an Ashikabi, one of the mysterious set of masters that can become partners with some of the 108 cute girls, buxom women, and bishōnen called “Sekirei”. Their partnership will allow Minato to realize his true capabilities and his own strength.

FUNimation Entertainment will release the series on DVD in 2010.”

WOW, I’m actually sort of shocked that Funimation went ahead and licensed this anime, it’s a bit suprising, I wouldn’t have been too shocked though if it was Media Blasters who’dve licesned it considering that they’ve licensed Queens Blade and the last two Ikki Tousen animes, which are supposed to both be reciveing dubs… but it shouldn’t be too shocking considering that FUNi licesened STRIKE WITCHES(wich I’m looking forward to~!)however those two shows are just utter trash, Sekirei is actually not all that bad, it actually has a story, it’s not all oppai, even though there is quite a bit of it… along with just typical ecchi. Okay, so it’s fanservicy, but it’s still good, I’m sort of looking forward to it actually.

Besides Sekirei FUNimation licesned the first two FMPs(Full Metal Panic) series, FUNimation already has the final season, Second Raid, but the two season are the original 24-episode FMP and the second spin-off series Fumoffu, which is pretty interesting since ADV recently released a boxset with both seasons. I guess FUNi just decided to complete the series.

FUNi also announced a bit more of news just today

The Mirror, Vol. 13, No. 640

“There had been several reports that information about confidential flight plans by the Cambodia Air Traffic Service (CATS) controlled by Thai people were leaked. The opposition party has demanded that the government should take control of the air traffic control itself, but there is no response. And now everything seems somewhat too late.

“The spokesperson of the Sam Rainsy Party, Mr. Yim Sovann, spoke to the media late last week, saying that the government should take the CATS company under its control to ensure that there is no economic loss, and it would be easier for the government to control national secrets. Mr. Yim Sovann said, ‘The Sam Rainsy Party had mentioned this case many times before, suggesting that all these important tasks should not be given to foreigners, and the government should control it by itself. But the state does not care.’

“In January 2001, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of the Cambodian government signed an agreement with the [Thai] Samart Corporation, providing an exclusive license for 22 years to this company, to organize, operate, and maintain a system for air traffic routing for civil aviation companies in Cambodia, and this company is also required to conform to the technical standards of BCT [an aviation maintenace company]. After receiving the license from the Cambodian government, Samart very quickly prepared the bidding procedure for the radar system and set up the necessary tools needed for its effective air traffic control operations.

“A parliamentarian from the Cambodian People’s Party, Mr. Cheam Yeap, agreed that it would be very good if the government would reconsider the air traffic control agreement with the Thai side. He added that Cambodia should have the ability to control this company, rather than allow foreigners to continue to control it. He said, ‘We should recheck that investment agreement, and we should check whether our human resources can take the place of the foreigners.’ He explained that Cambodia jointly created the company CATS with Thailand, because, at that time, Cambodia did not have sufficient experts, and air traffic was not so busy [like it is at present]. Mr. Cheam Yeap went on to say that to continue to let foreigners do the air traffic control affects the security of our nation through the secret release of confidential information to their government, adding that foreigners are not honest to us. He said, ‘Do not trust foreigners but only those having the same blood as Khmers. If we let them be at that place, they might release confidential information about national security, as one Thai person did already. They are not 100% honest towards us.’

“Mr. Cheam Yeap continued to say that according to new Article 90 of the Constitution of Cambodia, the Royal Government can make a request to the National Assembly ["The National Assembly shall approve the national budget, State planning, loans, financial contracts, and the creation, modification and annulment of tax."]. Then the National Assembly will exercise its right to cancel any contract that can affect the national interest. The Thai spy can be considered as proof to cancel that contract. Another Sam Rainsy Party parliamentarian, Mr. Son Chhay, said that the opposition party had expressed concerns since the beginning about problems of national security. Now, it happened as the Sam Rainsy Party had been concerned. He said he will write a letter to the government, because it is related to national security.

“He said, ‘I also saw information about the arrest of the Thai spy. I think it is an opportunity to respond to the Ministry of Defense and the Council of Ministers which had claimed that there would be no problems, but the problem exists now, and I want to know what measures they take.’ He emphasized that he will write a letter this week to the government to request it to check the control over the CATS company.

“Because of the secret copy of the flight plan of Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the Cambodia government ordered all Thai [CATS] personnel to stop working, after Mr. Siwarak Chutiphong, 31, had been arrested for spying, while the eternal friend of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Thaksin Shinawatra, visited Cambodia, to give a lecture about the Cambodian economy, as he is now an economic advisor of Cambodia.” Sereypheap Thmey, Vol.17, #1817, 23.11.2009

Yes, yes, I know – I am totally slacking when it comes to doing the blog! At some point I’ll figure out a balance and get everything done! Until then, it will be sporadic posts here at Bright-Yellow.

I just learned that here in Illinois you can go to the Secretary of State’s Web site and register an emergency contact (and a secondary contact). If, God forbid, I were to get in an accident, now emergency crews can scan my driver’s license (it has a bar code) and find out who to contact right away. I’m sure most other states have this type of registry, too, and I encourage you to sign up. If you live in Illinois, all of the information can be found here. Outside of Illinois, try your Secretary of State’s Web site.

On a completely unrelated note – I went to see “Precious” today and I can’t recommend it enough. While the subject matter is tough, you still walk away with a feeling of hope. The entire cast mesmerized us and I suggest you definitely make a point to see this movie!

Thanks for reading Bright-Yellow!

There are certain matters where I’m always going to be right. It just naturally happens. One of those things I always seem to be right about is my advice that I give to my sister about her relationship. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just always right. I tell her exactly what to do and sometimes she’ll do it other times she argue with me, but in the end I’m right. I think it’s because me and her boyfriend think alike. So yesterday she was freaking out over something that happened. I told her exactly what to do, but of course she didn’t listen. Then in the end who was right. That would be me. Anyway just like to prove a point. Yesterday I got my vehicle licensed. Yay now I can drive it on the street without being pulled over. Now to just get insurance which should be tons of fun. It also didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would. I guess that’s what happens when you go to the DMV in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. I also worked out my chest….chest workouts can be no fun some days. Luckily yesterday wasn’t that day. Seemed like it went faster too. Now I have to workout today and I think I’ll just do the stomach since it’s comedy Wednesday and as far as I know there are no more stupid Country Music Awards. Now to move on to the squibies. Oh wait before that I was looking at my views and a lot of them are coming from other blogs or people looking at tags. Not so much from Blogsurfer.us anymore. Wonder what’s up with that. Ok now squiby. So back in the day South Park had a game on N64. I remember it well because my mom freaked out when me and my brother played it while she was cleaning up. So she’s like you can’t rent that game again until your 17. Or did she say 18. Anyway it sucked not being able to rent it. It was so much fun. Anyway so here is the opening for the N64 South Park game. Today’s tip is as much fun as over reacting is, you should probably take a minute or two to try to see the issue in another light.

The Swedish man argued that he was Jesus, the son of God, and that he ruled the world. As a result he didn’t need to abide by earthly driving regulations.

Level 1: Awesome

To achieve this level, one must do awesome things. To be Level One Awesome, one must do three awesome things for the holder of an Awesome Pass (see bottom), or do five awesome things of a non-carrier of an Awesome Pass. They must be things that you arent trying to be awesome by and must come naturally. These things can only be judged awesome by Mr. T. Rivers and Miss. T Harris. The ultimate task to achieve Level One is when one gets sad, one must stop being sad and be awesome instead. Once achieved this, one is on the road to Awesome.

Level 2: Awesomdary.

To achieve this level of Awesome, one must do something both awesome and legendary that will be remembered by people in years to come. Like Level One, this must come naturally and can only be judged as Awesomdary by Mr. T. Rivers and Miss. T Harris (other Awesome Pass holders may contribute to the decision but only T&T have final say). Once classed as Awesomdary, one will receive an Awesome Pass and will therefore have privileges non-awesome people do not have.

Level 3: Awesolegensomedary.

One must carry the Awesome Pass and be constantly awesome and legendary to others. This means being awesome and legendary, without being rude or hateful to others (unless the people in question are anti-awesome). One must also be agreed upon by all those who are at all three levels of awesome and have held an Awesome Pass for at least 3 months.

Awesome Pass:

Awesome Pass is a special pass that gives you the license to be Awesome. To hold an awesome pass, one must pass Level Two. Once one has received an Awesome Pass, one has special privileges that the anti-awesome do not have, and never will. These special privileges include:

The ability to get away with things that are annoying and also stupid and/or sad.

The right to flaunt your awesomeness to everyone you meet

The right to use the word ‘Awesomdary’ and ‘Awesolegensomedary’

The right to refer to those at Level Two or Three as “Elders of the Tribe of Awesome”

Introduction Build a Hackintosh Mac for Under $800 When you see headlines like this, it really makes

Introduction

Build a Hackintosh Mac for Under $800

When you see headlines like this, it really makes your consider trying out those Macs that everyone is talking so much about these days. One of the biggest barriers to switching to a Mac is that they are very expensive. So, why not take their operating system that has gotten such rave reviews, and put it on a cheaper PC computer, right?

Since Apple has made the switch to using Intel and nVidia technology in their computers, they’re essentially the same stuff that’s in PCs too. So why not? Because Apple doesn’t let you. Even if you bought the software, you are not allowed to. You agree to those terms when you use the product. I’ll better explain the ramifications, and headaches you will run into by making your own “Hackintosh” Computer.

————————————-

Apple Legal Stuff and Licensing

Here are just a few things to consider if you want to legitimately use the Mac Operating System on a non-Mac Computer. This is concerning the software license around the OS

Apple Legal – Software License for Snow Leopard

0. Geography

What The Paperwork Says:“11. Export Control. You may not use or otherwise export … Apple Software may not be exported or re-exported (a) into any U.S. embargoed countries or (b) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Department of Commerce Denied Person’s List or Entity List. “

What It Really Says: “It’s not a matter of copyright or distribution laws if you can use our software. You have to be on the USA’s side.”

1. Liability for Damages

What The Paperwork Says:“In no event shall Apple’s total liability to you for all damages (other than as may be required by applicable law in cases involving personal injury) exceed the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00).”

What It Really Says: “We’re not responsible for the software we make. If for some reason it hurts you, the most we’ll give ya is $50!” — If you put it on another computer, you’re not in compliance and you dont get that $50!

2. Liability… Again

What The Paperwork Says:“SHOULD THE APPLE SOFTWARE OR SERVICES PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION.”

What It Really Says:“Should it be proven that our product is defective, your responsible for replacing and paying for the defective parts/repairs – even if it’s our fault” – Aside from your Mfr Warranty

3. Apple’s Rights With Your Computer

What The Paperwork Says:“Apple and its licensors reserve the right to change, suspend, remove, or disable access to any Services at any time without notice. In no event will Apple be liable for the removal of or disabling of access to any such Services. Apple may also impose limits on the use of or access to certain Services, in any case and without notice or liability.”

What It Really Says: “We can change, remove, or disable any part of your Mac computer at any time without any notice. And you can’t come after us for doing it.”

4. The Types of Hardware Allowed to Run OSX

What The Paperwork Says: “You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so. “

What It Really Says:“If you bought this software, you can’t put it on any machine. It has to be a Mac or else! And your not allowed to help or show others to do it”

5. General Licensing

What The Paperwork Says: “This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.”

What It Really Says: “We license our Operating System no different than Microsoft.”

————————————-

How Apple Reacts to Hackintoshers

Apple’s Snow Leopard Update Zaps Bugs, Kills Hackintosh Netbooks

When it comes to Apple’s feelings towards people making their own Hackintosh computers, please reference the link above. That’s right. Apple will fix the bugs in their computers, and shut down you hackintosh if you update.

Regardless if you have purchased the software or not legitimately, it is not in compliance with their terms of use. Therefore illegal. Therefore not supported. Therefore it’s only going to cause you problems down the road – no matter what.

Apple will defend it’s intellectual property rights now matter what. They are no different than Microsoft in this case. Although they may find a way of warning you more “poetically,” like they did to the OSx86 project:

“Your karma check for today:
There once was a user that whined
His existing OS was so blind
He’d do better to pirate
An OS that ran great
But found his hardware declined.
Please don’t steal Mac OS
Really, that’s way uncool.
(C) Apple Computer, Inc.”

Apple’s code is often laced with lines that explicitly tell you not to pirate their software, too.

——————

Can I Buy A Pre-Installed Hackintosh?

Kinda-Sorta – But definitely not legally. There is a company called PsyStar that has blatantly disregarded Apple’s License Terms and started selling PCs pre-installed with Mac OS on it. Apple got angry. So Apple sued, and won. No big suprise there.

Apple Wins Big Against Psystar

In that case the judge also:

Ruled out a “fair use” defense for Psystar

Psystar also argued that it had the right to sell OS X as part of the first-sale doctrine. The judge ruled that any copies were not made with the permission of Apple

Noted the copies installed on the Open Computers, in some cases, did not even match up with the “backup copies” sold together with the computers

Said: “The inclusion of the copyrighted Mac OS X with the above-described additions and modifications makes Psystar’s product an infringing, derivative work”

“The judge also noted that Apple had not raised claims on breach of contract, induced breach of contract, trademark dilution, and infringement, and other breaches of California law.”

PsyStar has been left without a legal foot to stand on. The trial resumes December 14th. But clearly Apple has sent a precedent to all those other people out there distributing and selling their own “Hackintoshes” that the matter will not be taken lightly by them.

I don’t know what the execs at PsyStar were thinking, trying to win a legal battle like this against Apple – over their own intellectual property. Quite frankly it was plain stupid of them. For every copy of OSX they claimed to sell, they had a license agreement to go along with it. Not once did ANYONE at that company bother too look at it. Especially for a reseller to be selling illegitimate software, that doesn’t match the license on the machine.

That puts PsyStar in the “Pirate” category. There’s nothing wrong with being a pirate (or a ninja for that matter). But there’s something definitely wrong about cashing in on other people’s code, and exploiting another company’s intellectual property for your own personal gain.

——————

But Can It Be Done?!

Yes, my children it CAN be done. I’ll have a video up here in the coming days to show it can be done, and I can do it.

Unfortunately, with my experiences – it’s just plain simpler to install a netbook-ready distribution of linux on your computer. Like Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
