Vor einiger Zeit im Cafe Bellevue wunderschöne Musik gehört, nachgefragt lief die Platte “El Dorado” von “17 Hippies”, die ich mir dann gestern gekauft habe und ich bin begeistert. “Adieu” ist ein herzerwärmendes Liebeslied, ich habe lange nicht mehr so schöne deutsche Lyrik gehört. Hier ein anderes Lied von der Band:

Und wer hat das Original erkannt?

I keep finding these brilliant pieces Liszt has composed! It’s incredible. First it was his Sonata in B minor, S. 178. Then it was Liebeslied S. 566. Which phased into an obsession with La Campanella. And now, it’s Gnomenreigen. Translated from German, that means “Gnome Round Dance.” And it is the most darling piece ever. Possibly one of the happiest pieces, aside from Mozart’s, that I’ve heard. It sounds simple (like everything else Liszt composes), but you should see the score. It’s incredible. There are millions of notes, and the tempo is a bullet. Goodness! A tempo marking is Vivacissimo. It sounds like vivacississississississimo.

I know many compare Liszt to his contemporary, Chopin, and say that Liszt is more technical while Chopin is more lyrical. And I’m not going to say that’s wrong. But no one has the right to dismiss the genius of Liszt as they celebrate that of Chopin. I don’t know what it is, but Liszt just appeals to me more. He is, after all, my favorite composer.

I’m considering this piece as one of my next ones for Merit Scholarship… but I need a slow piece, if I want to go for the grand prize in January. Any suggestions? (I will shoot you if you say Für Elise or Moonlight, I refuse to perform something I could just as easily sight read. Give me something that will amuse my brain, because the noggin has been so bored for the past, I don’t know, week.)

Absolute Beginner – Liebeslied remix

Today I found out who wrote “Your Song”. It were nobody less than Elton John (music) and Bernie Taupin (lyrics).
First of all: John and Taupin wrote, in my opinion, the most incredible love song of the last century, if not of all times. It’s so simple and perfect. Wikipedia stated “[John doesn't] think [he has] written a love song as good since”. And he is right. As it always is, the best things come to you in a very short time: It took Elton John ten minutes to write the song and Taupin had written the lyrics over breakfast.
But I think John is not the best performer. I listened to a few of his own recordings and came to the conclusion that the version of Al Jarreau on the album “The Best of Al Jarreau” is way better. Can’t explain why, but I like it more. No, I like it the most.

Hmm… Actually I’m really wondering if they wrote the song for a girl or just to make money. ‘Cause I can’t think of anything better than this. It’s the Mount Everest of love songs… there is nothing above it. If you wrote this song for a woman you could die and say you made something outstanding (well, you shouldn’t because you wrote the song for a reason, but you could ).

Es muss dieser eine Traum gewesen sein. Als ich kurz davor, der Timer meines Fernsehers zeigte mir 4.35 Uhr an, nach anfänglicher bösartiger Schlaflosigkeit endlich den Weg in Richtung Traumwelt beschreiten durfte. Seit damals, als vor drei oder vier Tagen aufwachte, habe ich dieses Lied in meinem Kopf.

Ich hörte es, als ich ganz nah an dieser beinahe unbekannten jungen Frau stand. Mit ihr tanzte, so wie man es von Abschlussbällen einer typisch amerikanischen High School-Serie gewohnt war. Ganz nah. Und nur dieses Lied. Diese Frau und ich. Gemeinsam auf diesem Tanzparkett. Meine Hände an ihrer Hüfte, ihre Arme um meinen Hals gelegt.

Vielleicht schleicht sich dieses Lied immer wieder in mein Kopf, weil ich in diesem Traum zum ersten Mal wieder so etwas wie Liebe in mir spürte. Kein sanftes Verliebtsein, sondern die brutale und beinahe schon ungewohnte Liebe. Es fühlte sich so wunderschön an, so einzigartig, so herzerwärmend an. Fast beinahe schon so, als könnte ich mich wieder daran gewöhnen.

It literally means love song. It’s so beautiful. Possibly one of my favorite piano solo pieces. I don’t know what it is that lures me so, the fact that it’s 1:48 am, or the fact that it’s so peaceful and serene, or the fact that my sister plays it so wonderfully every time she comes home. When she sits at the piano and plays Liszt. I can’t imagine any better way to walk through the house than when she’s practicing.

Dank Kerstin schwelge ich gerade in Erinnerungen.

Von Frau Midler gibt es ein traumhaft schönes Liebeslied. Und soll ich Ihnen etwas verraten? Es steht auf meiner Liederliste. seufz.

Weil ich das Lied schon gefühlte eine Million Mal gehört habe, kenne ich den Text natürlich auswendig und singe ihn dem Michelmann manchmal vor. Immer dann, wenn ich besonders verliebt und glücklich bin. Ob er dabei immr so glücklich ist, weiß ich nicht. Aber wie soll ich singen lernen, wenn ich nicht fleißig übe?

Ich habe überlegt, eine ganze Weile.
Weil es für manchen Geschmack vielleicht nicht unbedingt in die Vorweihnachtszeit passt.

Es passt allerdings wunderbar zu meiner Stimmung.

Hab so viele aktuelle Themen im Kopf, über die ich schreiben wollte. Was esse ich an Weihnachten (???), St. Kilian und der heilige Berg der Franken, Social Networks, die Grundüberzeugungen von Virginia Satir, die Bindungstheorie von Bert Hellinger, Pablo Neruda und seine Gedichte and so on.

Aber es hilft nix, die müssen warten. Weil – kaum dem Erkältungsfieber entronnen, bin ich schon wieder dem Brecht-Fieber verfallen.

Na, stimmt so nicht ganz, ich bin ja schon lange ein großer Fan von Brecht. Und von Rockmusik aus deutschen Landen. Deshalb fand ich den Hinweis auf eine Veranstaltung, die beides miteinander verknüpft, total spannend. Und hab beschlossen, hinzugehen. Gemeinsam mit meinem Lieblingsmenschen. Also war ich gestern Abend DA!

Was soll ich sagen. Es war ein EREIGNIS! Super unterhaltsam und gleichzeitig sehr bewegend. Was da unter dem Titel Emma rockt Brecht von der Thüringer Rockband Emma gemeinsam mit dem Regisseur Manfred Wekwerth, der Schauspielerin Renate Richter und dem Schauspieler Hendrik Duryn auf die Beine bzw. auf die Bühne gestellt wurde, fand ich umwerfend. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass die Gedichte von Brecht so zeitlos sind. Und sich so gut „rocken“ lassen. Jeder einzelne Text (die überwiegende Mehrzahl in seinen Jugendjahren, so um 1920 herum verfasst), wirkte absolut aktuell. Ich hatte nie den Eindruck, dass hier etwas zur Musik passend gemacht bzw. die Musik zu den Texten geschliffen wurde., es wirkte einfach authentisch.

Ich weiß mittlerweile, dass sich so unterschiedliche Künstler wie Konstantin Wecker und Udo Lindenberg schon daran versucht haben. Na gut, letzterer hat ja nichts unversucht gelassen, ist selbst vor der Vertonung von „Über die Verführung von Engeln” nicht zurückgeschreckt, ich glaube, sein Werk wurde sogar als Soundtrack für einen Film gleichen oder ähnlichen Titels verwendet. Und selbst wenn die von mir verehrten Doors oder auch David Bowie von Brecht inspiriert wurden (Alabama Song), sie hätten mich bestimmt nicht so beeindrucken können wie „Emma“ gestern Abend.

Schon wieder eine Woche rum! Ein Lied, das ich euch auch schon seit Monaten vorstellen will, ist Brighter Than Sunshine von dem britischen Sänger-Songwriter Aqualung (eigentlich Matthew Hales). Seht her:

Brighter Than Sunshine ist ein Liebeslied, was bei Pop/Rock-Musik an sich ja keineswegs überraschend ist; allerdings erlebt der Sänger (im Gegensatz zu den Protagonisten der meisten heutigen Lovesongs) die Liebe durchweg positiv – kein Liebeskummer, kein gebrochenes Herz, keine unerwiderte Liebe. So war es zwar in der Vergangenheit (“I never saw it happening / I’d given up and given in / I just couldn’t take the hurt again”), aber jetzt läuft alles wie im Märchen (“What a feeling in my soul / Love burns brighter than sunshine / Brighter than sunshine / Let the rain fall, I don’t care / I’m yours and suddenly you’re mine / Suddenly you’re mine / And it’s brighter than sunshine”). Das ist doch auch mal schön!

Das Video ist zwar recht aussageschwach, unterstützt den Text aber doch ein wenig, insofern es einen Mann (Aqualung – sieht ein bisschen nerdy aus, ich weiß) und eine Frau zeigt, die sich recht gut zu verstehen scheinen.

Viel wichtiger für die positive Atmosphäre in diesem Song  sind aber die wunderschönen Harmonien (hauptsächlich aus Dur-Akkorden bestehend). In den Strophen haben wir D, A, E, B, D, A, E. Da das Lied in B-Dur steht, handelt es sich sozusagen um eine Abfolge von aufeinandergeschichteten Subdominanten, die zur Tonika B führen (also gewissermaßen Dreifach-Subdominante, Doppelsubdominante, Subdominante, Tonika). Es ist genial, wie die Melodie sich dabei überhaupt nicht verändert – Aqualung macht von der engen Verwandschaft von Tonikas (-en? -ae?) und ihren Subdominanten gebraucht.

Im Refrain geht es genau so toll weiter: B, E, G#m, G, F#sus4, F#, F#m, E, Em, B. Hales verwendet die tonartfremden Akkorde G (eine Art umgekehrter Neapolitaner zu F#), F#m (vermollte Dominante als Subdominantenparallele auf E) und Em (vermollte Subdominante), um zu einer fast vollständig chromatischen Akkordfolge zu gelangen (man beachte die Terzen bzw. Quarten der jeweiligen Akkorde: B, B, B, A#, A, G#, G – die Melodie bewegt sich parallel dazu auf der Quintenebene mit D#, D, C#, C#, C#, B, B).

Dagegen wirkt die Bridge mit Em, A, Em, A, Em, A, Em, A, B schon wieder richtig normal!

Schließlich sei noch auf den ausgeklügelten Aufbau des Liedes hingewiesen; achtet mal darauf, wie die einzelnen Instrumente immer zum richtigen Zeitpunkt ein- oder aussetzen, so dass es zu einer ersten Klimax bei der Bridge und dann (nach der ruhigen dritten Strophe) zum abschließenden Höhepunkt bei den letzten Wiederholungen des Refrains kommt.

Alles in allem ein sehr, sehr toller Song! Und wer (wie ich) nicht genug davon kriegen kann: Aqualung hat noch gaaanz viele andere schöne Lieder…

Wie geht es Dir heute? Mir geht es ganz gut, denn ich reite immer noch die Welle des “ich habe es ja gleich gesagt”-Triumphs. Und gerade hat mir mein Zufallsgenerator “If you’re into it” von den Flight of the Conchords vorgespielt. Kennst Du das Lied oder die Gruppe? Das ist ein Folk-Comedy-Duo aus Neuseeland.

Ich bin letztes Jahr irgendwann durch Zufall über sie gestolpert, als ich bei Youtube etwas völlig anderes gesucht habe. Das, was ich gesucht habe, habe ich natürlich nicht gefunden. Dafür war ich den Rest des Tages vor Begeisterung für FOTC vollkommen bewegungsunfähig.

Sie würden Dir gefallen, glaub mir.

Wenn Du Dich fragst, was Du mir zu Weihnachten schenken könntest, dann würde ich mich sehr über die DVD-Box der ersten Staffel ihrer Serie freuen. Ich habe zwar schon das Hörspiel von der BBC, aber das ist ja ein bißchen anders als dann die Serie. Außerdem kann ich Bret McKenzie (der Herr links im Bild) in der Serie auch sehen und nicht nur hören.

Kommen wir zurück zum Lied. Es ist eine Art Liebeslied, in dem Bret seiner Freundin erklärt, was er alles bereit ist, für sie zu tun, vorausgesetzt, sie steht auf so diese Sachen. Ja, ich denke, so könnte man es beschreiben.

Weißt Du, mit wie vielen Gitarristen ich mich in meinem Leben eingelassen habe? Glaubst Du, auch nur einer von denen hätte mir so ein großartiges Lied geschrieben? Eigentlich habe ich nie ein eigenes Lied bekommen. Zumindest wüßte ich nichts davon. Aber warum soll man auch der dummen, gefolgsamen Freundin, die einem den Verstärker zum Auto trägt ein Lied schreiben, wenn man doch der letzten Freundin Lieder widmen kann, auch wenn die einen wie Dreck behandelt hat????!!!
