This is a shot from Vogue’s Paris December/January issue featuring Bianca Balti, simply I just loved the shot so I had to post it, it reminds me of Barbie meets the Queen in some type of Disney film, if you have seen Life-Size with Tyra Banks you will understand; but yeah I loves it.

I found this set of images on GIZMOD with a life sized Indiana Jones and a Strom Trooper… and was amazed at the details that were accomplished with using Legos. I also thought it would be in good taste if this week’s post was another life sized C-3PO, in relation to last week’s post. SO here is the image gallery below, click on the image for the full version… and if you would like to see the Gizmod version click here!

Chris Gilmour. A life size bicycle made entirely out of cardboard and glue. Incredible.

The work of Chris Gilmour provokes surprise and amazement beyond what could appear to be a mere process of reproduction. In returning to the value of making and strongly emphasising it, these works reveal a process of understanding that lets us see everyday reality with new awareness and appreciation. This practice avoids a withdrawal into the limbo of craft, and implies an intimate and profound quest towards the reason of things.

“I just got back from a short, busy schedule in Japan,” the 33-year-old actor wrote on his online fan cafe on Thursday. “I even produced a life-size wax doll for the shop opening in December.”

The Hallyu star went on to say, “I’ve been very busy since I got back. It’s a secret but you’ll find out in December.”

Kwon has starred in several successful movies including “My Tutor Friend” in 2003 and “Love, So Divine” in 2004. But his most famous role to date was in the 2003 TV series “Stairway to Heaven”, which co-starred another Hallyu star Choi Ji-woo and became a hit throughout Asia.

He married Korean actress Son Tae-young in 2008, who gave birth to a boy earlier this year, and opened a coffee shop “Tea’Us” in Seoul’s trendy Myeongdong district in May.

I get so excited about Halloween that I firmly believe it starts at the beginning of September and

I get so excited about Halloween that I firmly believe it starts at the beginning of September and lasts until we’ve all recoved from Dia de los Muertos. It’s by far my favorite holiday and any projects that can be considered Halloweenish will be covering my floor for the next month or so until I get started on Christmas gifts.

I’m still not sleeping which is very lame. For a while I was just watching tons of movies and felt miserable. I started in on crafting during my late night Netflix adventures and began feeling better…even though I still can’t sleep. Last year I thought of a great crochet project while in my anatomy and physiology class. Unfortunately, my shoulder hadn’t healed enough to be able to crochet that much. I’m only able to work on it a few hours a night for only a couple nights a week still because of my shoulder, but the project has begun. Near as I can tell from hours of hunting online, no one else has ever done this before either! I’m crocheting an anatomically correct, fully jointed, life-size human skeleton. That’s right–all 200 bones. I’ll be leaving out the little ear bones as they won’t be visible in the temporal bones anyhow. For the past week I’ve been working here and there on the phalanges and have started on a couple metacarpals so I can begin to stitch fingers together.

The detail is incredible and I spend about as much time crocheting as I do reading and studying photos and drawings of bones. I just finished the right thumb. For an example of the level of detail, pinch your left thumb with your right thumb on the knuckle and your index finger on the palmar side of the joint. Dig in pretty hard and bend your left thumb forward. You’ll feel two little bumps on each side with a canal or dent between them. My crocheted first metacarpal has enough detail to have those bumps with the space between them! I can’t wait to start working up the arms. I’m getting a bit sick of fingers. I started with the fingers since it’s a fairly easy tube shape. I’m not quite sure how I’ll do a sphenoid, sacrum, scapula, or the vertibrae yet. I’m not worried though. I can crochet anything. I’ve just finally gotten bored with crocheting food and decided it was time to move on to some new shapes. I whipped out a few crocheted red blood cells the other night for my friend’s son, and decided if I could master that shape, a skeleton couldn’t be too hard. Red blood cells are a bit funky. it’s basically a doughnut shape with a thin bit of fabric across the ‘hole.’

Ultimately, I decided crocheted red blood cells just weren’t quite the look and feel I wanted for these toys. I ended up stitching up a huge batch of them and will likely make a few sets with white blood cells and platelets as playsets for my store on etsy.com later.

Plus, I love bones and definitely need a life-size skeleton to play with. I’ll take him out to the park with me and of course buckle him in on road trips, likely leaving him trapped in a hot car with a copy of “War and Peace” in his hands like he died reading it. I guess clawing at the window trying to get out would be ok too.

So far he’s a little bit larger than me as I just can’t crochet the fingers any smaller with the size hook I’m using. He’ll just be a big boy. I’m doubling the measurements of Quincy, my half-size skeleton that I got to study for class last year. As for me tonight, I’m off to finish some biology homework and work on Halloween costumes. There are some exciting pictures coming!

A dual exhibition, Life Size juxtaposes the work of artists Turf One and Shawn Barber for a show of portraits. The irreverent paintings depict fringe members of society in styles that have a religious, even Divine Comedy-like vibe.

Shawn Barber’s incredibly risque, racy, fearless artwork perfectly compliments Turf One’s style of allowing his subconscious to dictate his work, typically resulting in paintings of sinister carnival workers and sideshow acts. The pieces in this exhibition [at Montreal's Galerie d’art Yves Laroche] showcase each artist’s talent in a variety of mediums, from tattoos and graffiti to oil paint and gold leaf.

There is an ongoing project in Tokyo right now where they will build a life-size RX-78 Gundam. I presume under the name Green Tokyo Project since my Japanese reading skills are close to zero.

Those familiar with the Gundam series will surelly recognise the model. And those close to Odaiba will be the lucky ones to visit the site once the construction is finished.

Lets have a look at the previous Real-life Gundam project for comparison.

Synecdoche, New York
★★ / ★★★★

This is the kind of movie that is frustrating to watch because its ambition got in the way of true emotional resonance. Philip Seymour Hoffman stars as Caden Cotard, a theater director who one day decides to make an epic life-size play about his whole life. He makes that decision because he wants to know how his life turns out the way it is, to understand why his relationship with the people he loves most simply did not work. There are four women in his life that have impacted him greatly: Samantha Morton, a box-office worker, Hope Davis, a shrink, Michelle Williams, a stage actress, and Catherine Keener, Caden’s wife. The first thirty minutes of this picture is very engaging: I felt how alienated Caden was because he doesn’t feel appreciated by his family and the people he works with. That frustration (and maybe even a bit of rage) begins to manifest physically and he starts to think more negatively about himself to the point where he ends up believing that he’s dying. The point where I started to get confused was when the movie decided to jump forward in time multiple times. I began to lose track of who Caden can still connect with, his motivations, and where he’s ultimately going to end up. On top of that initial confusion, Charlie Kaufman, the writer and director, kept adding elements of existentialism and sequences that might have or might not have happened. The movie got way into itself to the point where I couldn’t relate at all. I’ve read a plethora of critics’ reviews that this is a great film because of its ambition. To me, ambition can only get a movie so far. With ambition, a film must also be able to take its audiences to whether it decides to go no matter how ludicrous the destination. With this film, I felt left out of the loop and constantly wondered what was going on. Even though it’s not as accessible and relatable as I would’ve liked (especially for a movie that’s about life and death), I’m still giving this movie a mediocre rating because I did like some of the elements and issues it tried to tackle.

Korean sculptor Gwon Osang creates these outstanding 3D pieces from 300+ photographs of the original subjects, which are overlaid onto a lightweight life-size mannequins (see above). Osang, graduated from the Hong-ik University sculpture department, ever since hes been one of the most recognized contemporary artists in Korea for his non-conventional approach to sculpture.

Osang’s composites made up of photographs look almost like ceramics to the naked eye, although closer inspection reveals the technigue of grand illusion; there are elements of realism mixed with distortion that makes the audience see the reflections from the fuzzy lens. Gwon’s photo-sculptures require a meticulous and cumbersome procedure to create his quilted tapestry of human attributes. After many different sections of the model’s anatomy are shot with the same light source, the film is developed and the prints are pieced together to form a sculptural body. The fact that Gwon used this process to achieve a sculptural end-result is without precedent in the history of contemporary art. Though, recently, similarities of Gwon’s sculptures with artwork of German artist Oliver Herring have been made..
