Well, its 2′o clock in the morning and here I am sitting in front of my lappy. This isn’t new to me as I am used to staying up late into the night. But today is different. Almost everyone of the 250 odd children of my hostel have gone to sleep. Am still sitting an staring at my desktop [which happens to have Deepika Padukone as the background image ] and listening to “500 Days of Summer OST” [the movie was awesome and so is the sound track]. I wanted to read some book, but the only one I was interested was taken by another friend. So am still sitting and staring [but the track's changed-it's now Broken-Lifehouse]. Having nothing to do I started to reflect on my day and realised that I woke up at 3 in the afternnon, missed lunch,had snacks, then dinner and then watched “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind“, played Counter Strike for an hour and chatted with an old friend.That’s all I did the entire day.

Now I will have to pause for some time as am going on a walk with some friends. I know it sounds odd, but trust me, nothing is more refreshing and soothing as a walk at 2:30 in the night with friends in Goa in the month of November

My next post will come soon and I guess it will be about something more important. Till then, adios

For a change, The Train Reader charged through the pages at bullet train speed this time.

Maybe she was so drawn into Henry DeTamble’s time-warped world in Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife, that she was also lost in the time tunnel herself.

But it was not all a blur.

In fact, Niffenegger’s writing is so vivid and evocative that The Train Reader thought she was seeing images, not words.

The book is so heavily laden with emotions that it overpowers the reader at times, particularly the heart-wrenching episodes. (Won’t go into the details. Spoils the fun of reading it.)

Fiction it may be, but Niffenegger has painted a near-realistic world for us. She is a visual artist who paints with words.

Now The Train Reader wonders if she should get the DVD when it is released; she has missed it at the cinemas. Always a tough decision when you have read the novel that a movie is adapted from.

But at least she knows she will enjoy the theme song.

Lifehouse’s Broken. Divine.

Grab a picture of yourself back when you were five or ten years younger and stare at it real good.

Life is full of uncertainty. We start out as children, carefree, innocent, pure, unaware of the horrors and the hardships that we will be facing once we hit ‘life’. Having no sense of malice, saying whatever comes to mind, however weird or awkward it is.

We start out, as early as three years, with dreams.

“When I grow up, I wanna be…”

I wanted to be a paleontologist.

We start off with a clear-cut goal on our lives.

“I’m going to have a big house, and a family, and lots of cars!”

Now, we don’t know where we’re going, or what we’ll become. Taking a look at oneself, we see that the path we once thought we were destined to take is so far away from us. Not completely out of reach, though trying to reach it would be too tedious and burdensome. We reminisce of the events in our lives and try to pinpoint that thing that triggered to who we are now. We try to find out the series’ of mistakes that we’ve made, the efforts that we’ve done or failed to do, the people we’ve met and ignored, just to realize more about our self.

And you still wonder who the kid in the picture is.

You ask yourself, at which point in my life did I start to become this? What do others think of me? What am I doing now? When did I change from being regular to someone who mattered? When did I become a leader? When did I learn to follow? When have I cared what other people think? When did I start becoming grade conscious? When did I start becoming selfless (perhaps even too selfless)? Why I’ve been doing things I know I’d regret? Why I’ve taken up vices which I once found disgusting? Why do I hang out with the type of people I once hated? Why I’m wasting my time on things that I know I have no real future in? Why I’ve broken promises that I’ve made to myself?

Well, I’ve yet to answer these. Though I try to back-track certain aspects of my life, I can’t really say with certainty. Perhaps it is impossible to find that significant event that triggered everything. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t exist. Or maybe it’s because life, your life now, isn’t dictated by a single event, but by a succession of events, both successes and failures, by a succession of choices, both right ones and wrong ones.

Desperate for a changing.. starving for the truth.. I’m closer at were it started.. I’m chasing after you.

Uff. Ich weiß, dass es falsch ist und so, aber irgendwie ändert das ja nichts. Außer vielleicht den Zustand meines Gewissens. Mein moralisches Gelabere wird dadurch natürlich unglaubwürdig, nehme ich an. Aber deshalb frage ich mich:

Was sollte mir wichtiger sein? Mein persönliches Glück oder den Schein von Glaubwürdigkeit, Authentizität, was auch immer? Ich bin doch nicht authentisch, wenn ich mich zu einer Handlung zwingen muss, oder? Ich habe nie von mir behauptet, ein Engel zu sein. Und da ich früher nie in der Situation war, war es auch leicht für mich, voreilig zu urteilen. Natürlich war das falsch. Aber ich hab’s eben getan.

Zumindest: Wenn ich etwas tue, weil ich tief in mir selbst den Drang spüre, es zutun (nein, ich rede nicht von Harndrang), dann kann es doch nichts natürlicheres, authentischeres und glaubwürdigeres geben. Das bedeutet nicht, dass ich früher oder jetzt gelogen hätte. Es bedeutet an sich nur, dass ich mich – so wie alle anderen Menschen auch – entwickelt habe. Dass ich nicht mehr so denke, wie früher. Warum, ist erstmal egal.

Darum sollte es aber eigentlich nicht gehen.

Auch wenn ich jetzt mich selbst damit beruhigen kann, dass ich nicht mir selbst zuwider handle oder so etwas, ist es immer noch moralisch gesehen falsch. Auf so Weisen, dass ich sie nicht mal nennen kenn.

Sollte mir Moral wichtig sein?

Warum? Warum eigentlich, sollte es mir wichtig sein, ob ich ethisch gesehen, eine ‘gute’ Handlung vollbringe.

Soll ich denn immer utilitaristisch an alles rangehen? Das Glück der Mehrzahl? Schän altruistisch handeln und hoffen, dass ich mir damit meinen Platz im Himmel verschaffe? Blödsinn.

Warum aber ist es mir so wichtig?

Wenn ich mir selbst mehr damit schade, als mich zum Schluss am Ergebnis zu erfreuen, sollte ich es dann nicht lassen?

Wenn mich eine Handlung verändern würde. Und das auf eine Art und Weise, auf die ich nicht geändert werden möchte.. sollte ich das dann nicht lassen?

Was, wenn sich mein Weltbild umkehrt. Wenn ich die einfachsten Dinge nicht mehr zuordnen kann, weil ich etwas getan habe, was mein Kopf mir verbietet, egal wie sehr sich der Rest von mir eben diese Sache wünscht?

Ida Mancini oder wie sie hieß hatte irgendwo recht: Seitdem Eva in den verdammten Apfel gebissen hatte, waren wir Menschen zu schlau. Wir sehen nichts ohne unser Wissen: Dieses große Gebilde dort ist ein Berg, das viereckige (viereckig.. auch Wissen, egal.) ist ein Haus usw. usf.

Würde ich nicht wissen, dass es moralisch gesehen falsch ist, würde ich einfach meinem Urinstinkt folgen, oder?
Würde ich nicht wissen, dass es mich selbst auch auf andere Weise verletzten würde, würde ich doch einfach akzeptieren, was da ist.

Hm.

Kings of Leon eek out 1 more week at the top of the chart this week, giving them 11 weeks on top with “Use Somebody”. Coming on strong though at #2 is Kelly Clarkson with “Already Gone”. Kelly just missed the #1 spot and ended up 10 spins behind the Kings. Look for Kelly to begin her reign at the top next week.

Uncle Kracker moves up to #5 with “Smile”. It’s the first time Uncle Kracker has hit the top 5 since 2003, when “Drift Away” peaked at #2 (and spent 10 weeks at that position). Daughtry falls out of the top 5 for the first time since the first week of July (“No Surprise” eases down to #8) Moving into the top 10 in only its 6th week on the chart is “Fireflies” by Owl City.

Lifehouse move into the top 20 at #19 with “Halfway Gone”. Reaching the top 30 are Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams” and Jay Sean’s “Down”. Debuting on the chart this week is the latest by Daughtry (#34) and Boys Like Girls (#40).

Idol Watch: Kris Allen moves up to #21, and Jordin Sparks spends her last week on the chart at #36.

One band whose music I’ve always looked forward to hearing during this decade is Los Angeles based quartet Lifehouse.  Singer Jason Wade has a recognizable, weary-journeyman-kind of voice and he sings his songs in a straight-forward way, allowing the audience to identify with the music.  Some of my favourite tunes of the 00’s are “Everything”, “You and Me”, “Spin”, and of course “Hanging By A Moment”.  The pic above is the cover of their forthcoming CD Smoke and Mirrors.  It’s hard to find a source online where you can hear the full version of their latest soon-to-be-hit, but I found ”Halfway Gone”here.  Enjoy!

Each week, the Globalchart on the M4B Charts Central (M4BCC) message board is updated to reflect the week’s musings over music from approximately 50 personal chart compilers around the world on the Internet.

Chart #397 has “Fireflies” by Owl City dethroning Kelly Clarkson’s “Already Gone”. Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance” makes a huge jump into the Top 10, with other big moves from tunes by Kris Allen, Rihanna, Kesha, Shinedown, Weezer, and Alicia Keys. The highest debut belongs to Lifehouse’s “Halfway Gone”.

“Use Somebody” holds at the top of the chart for a tenth week this week. It’s still in 2nd place for longest run at the top of the chart this year, trailing the Fray. Thanks in part to a change in the station panel, Colbie Caillat gets a surge and moves up to #2 with “Fallin’ for You”. However, she still is an underdog to reach the top spot. Although Kelly Clarkson holds at #4 with “Already Gone”, her bullet is almost 3 times the size of Colbie’s. If her bullet can stay the same, Kelly could reach #1 before December.

No songs move into the top 10 this week, and one song moves into the top 20, “Paparazzi” by Lady GaGa. The biggest mover of the week will be in the top 20 soon, “Halfway Gone” by Lifehouse. The song sees a spin increase of over 600 and leaps 8 notches to to #21 in its 2nd week on the chart. Relatively small differences in spins along with the panel change allow other songs to make big moves up the chart this week: “Haven’t Met You Yet” moves 34-27, “Sex on Fire” moves 35-28, and “Sweet Dreams” moves 37-31.

Less than 300 spins separate #40 from #30, and a little over 500 spins separate #30 from #21. Thus the potential for big moves still exists for any song that can get a strong bullet.

Moving in the opposite direction from the  big movers is the Howie Day’s “Be There”. The song falls 6 spots to #33.

Debuting this week are the latest songs from Parachute, Black Eyed Peas, Eric Hutchinson, and Jason Derulo.

Idol Watch: Daughtry holds at #5, Kris Allen moves up 3 to #23, and Jordin falls 3 to #34.

We’ll be ending off this week’s service with what might be a new song to many of you. It’s called Everything by the band Lifehouse. We’ll also be doing Shadows again, so make sure to check it out.

The whole premise of this song is stated in the refrain, “how can I stand here with You and not be moved You?” Having just wrapped up the Crazy Love series in community groups, it’s a good question to ask. How we can stand before a creative God who loves us relentlessly and not be changed?

So, I usually do an acoustic recording myself, but I’m doing something different this week. First, my voice just wasn’t working last night when I tried to record…allergies suck. But also, there is an amazing drama done to this song that was posted to Youtube a few years back. I was deeply moved when I saw this for the first time and wanted to share it with all of you. Let your heart be stirred by this and come Sunday ready to worship.

Olá pessoal…

Estava vendo o seriado Criminal Minds, episódio 2, da 3ª temporada e lá no finalzinho me deparo com uma música conhecida: Broken, do Lifehouse. Não é nenhuma notícia nova, já que a série está entrando na 5ª temporada.  Mas eu tinha que postar. Só queria compartilhar minha “descoberta”.

Criminal Minds é uma série policial de muito sucesso nos EUA. Trata-se de um grupo especial do FBI de Análise Comportamental que caça Serial Killers, usando como principal arma o perfil psicológico para encontrá-los. Agentes treinados em comportamente humano, que precisam pensar como os criminosos para estarem um passo a frente e capturá-los, evitando outras vítimas. Uma série extremamente inteligente.

A música “Broken” do Lifehouse aparece como trilha bem no final do episódio “In Birth and Death” (ep 02, 3ª temp). Fundo do drama sofrido pelos agentes do time, que está passando por uma reestruturação após vários fatos dramáticos na vida particular de cada um deles, sendo a saída de Jason Gideon do time o fator principal.

É uma bela cena… Para os fãs, vale a pena conferir:
