Need Ideas for Actually Living a More Serene Sophisticated Fabulous Life. Stop Here.

A Life More Fabulous blog image

I am not exactly sure how to describe A life More Fabulous in words. It would be simplistic to describe it as a an inspirational blog in the genre of fashion, residential interiors &c. It is much, much, more than that. Therefore, I think it best to describe to you the feeling I get when I read it: Calmness, Serenity, Longing, Hopefulness, Thankfulness and most importantly Possibility. The blogstress has a way of providing narration that conjures the readers’ imagination and ability to live the way in which she describes. You only have to read a Life More Fabulous’ weekend entries to say: “Yes, that is what I am going to do this weekend.” There is no impossibility in the suggestion at all, it’s all do-able. The narration is perfection. It induces action on a cerebral and physical level. My only question is: “Did the blogstress work on Madison Avenue?” Her narration is that perfect. The site’s photography only works to enhance the narrative. The blogstress’ powers of observation regarding something as simple, and often overlooked, as the beauty and energy of fall is captivating. But be clear, my intention is not to mislead you in believing that any selling, in the traditional sense, is going on here in this blog. Rather, what is being offered is all the emotion that I mentioned above. Which I believe can only lead to A Life More Fabulous.

Where can you find: inspiring interiors (with links for item purchases) with made up commentary from the blogstress as if she is showing you her home; put together outfits (ala In Style magazine) and accessories with more links for purchase; inspiring city looks; apparel images along side seemingly similar inspired interiors; and a weekend list to keep the most ardent net surfer afloat…The City Sage of course. This fascinating blog has much to offer as indicated above. But its most endearing quality is the blogstress, who I imagine is Ms. Anne Sage (given the web address). Read her About section and you’ll instantly know what I mean. And it goes without saying,

of course, that The City Sage has captivating photography, posts almost daily during the week (only), and is always coming up with new innovative images to love and inspire.
I love it when I find an almost perfect blog for its genre. I say almost perfect, only because perfection is not manifested in anything or anyone. You may be asking, “What connotes (almost) perfect?” The Luxe Chronicles does for a start. Helene, the blogstress, has created that elusive combination of: subject knowledge, intelligent analysis, humor, esthetic, up-to-date information, and daily weekly postings (minus the weekends) about luxury goods. I’ve been a fan of The Luxe Chronicles for over a year now, and I believe Helene sums up her blog’s mission the best: “The Luxe Chronicles is a collection of interviews, profiles and musings on various aspects of the luxury industry and occasionally, a rant on our celebrity obsessed culture and the dumbing down of our collective sense of style and esthetic. I would like The Luxe Chronicles to be an honest discussion about luxury, not only as an industry but also as a concept and the blurring of the lines between consumption and style.” See, even her description is smart. I simply cannot add to it, except to say that in a luxury obsessed culture we should know what we’re really being sold. It’s patriotic to love and want your luxury goods. It’s equally as patriotic to question their relevancy, their delivery, and their necessity.

Romance is not Only in the Movies

http://adaanddarcy.blogspot.com

Ada & Darcy blog header

I’m not sure but maybe I am searching for an ethereal quality to my life and added romance. Not in a traditional sense from a mate (spouse/companion for you Aussies), but from life itself. Well, God hearing my cry, I am sure , brought me to Ada & Darcy. Ada & Darcy a site devoted to “fabulous interiors, styling & all things lovely,” as described by the blogess Kellie Collis of Australia.

Ada & Darcy blog image

But I think her description is too simplistic…true, but simplistic. Ms. Collis’ site is much more than that. The only description I have for it is…ethereal and romantic. The inspirational interiors (of which this site provides the most of), events and clothing all encompass that underlying theme. I do not know if this was conscious on Ms. Collis’ part…but it is lovely. The site’s pictures whisk you away to the life and times of a Henry James novel set in 2009 ironically. Because of the sites romantic undercurrent it is calming and dreamy. I also really enjoy Ms. Collis’ post commentary because it is quick, simple, light and kind. To be inspired in a calm , kind and lovely way is rare at times now days. Therefore, I suggest you visit Ada & Darcy often.

Have a cocktail, please, it will make you and I feel better

Let's Have a Cocktail

Due to my current health status (notH1N1 related fyi) I’ll make this short but no less impressive. The best thing you could do at the end of the day is grab a drink (alcohol preferable @ least in my world) and read Let’s Have a Cocktail, the smart funny musings of Jenny Mac. Ms. Mac’s blog is a combination of food and drink recipes, heart warming and not so heart warming stories, and really funny observations. While the pictures accompanying her posts are not worthy of a coffee table book, they are more than appropriate, and in all actuality…insightful. Ms. Mac’s blog posts are generally longer then our busy lifestyles are used to in the blogosphere. But they are all well worth the almost daily read. I highly recommend Ms. Mac’s humorous Sept 28, & 30, 2009 posts (which will explain a lot about what college aged kids are learning, and who people believe Ms. Mac resembles) because after reading these you will not get enough of her. So sit down, relax, make your self comfortable, kick off your shoes, have a cigarette, and Let’s Have a Cocktail.

Misadventures with Andi

As with most blogs I stumbled upon this one. The fact that I am revue”ing” it says something about my current mood. My last post was about a woman blogging about her life, and the Misadventures with Andi is more of the same. I like the fundamental quality of these blogs, they get back to what blogging was originally intended to be. At the same time Ms. Andi Fisher’s blog is as charming as the one last revue”d”. Ms. Fisher has a definite personality and quality of life that makes you interested in her world. The army brat, married to a Frenchman and who has since relocated from Europe has a lot to say and describe about life, books, food and wanting to be french. Are not we all just a little voyeuristic? While Ms. Fisher’s visual accompaniments with her posts are not worthy of a Stieglitz book, but they are appropriate and appealing. As with any good blog, Ms. Fisher’s can be searched pursuant to month or topic of interest. What really solidified her musings for me was her commitment to blog daily, which she does, and which I am finding difficult to come by. Just as in a movie, misadventures can be fun, I only suggest you participate in them with Andi.

You’ll want to know what GOOP is.

If you’re in your teens or even 20’s you may have been waiting for me to hit a on popular celebrity who is a blogger. That way you can get the latest scoop on an upcoming tour, who their in a relationship with and where they partied last night and with whom. Unfortunately, you may be disappointed. But if you’re closer to your 40’s than your 20’s

(as I) and you still dig celebs who can actually sing and/or act…and aren’t just a beautiful face, then you’ll be interested in Ms. Paltrow’s blog Goop. I still have yet to know what Goop means, but I like its message. Ms. Paltrow like many of us is attached with children. But she still has other interests, and asks the relevant questions and provides equally relevant suggestions that need contemplation for a good life. She has efficiently categorized her blog topics into the following: “Make”; “Go”; “Get”; “Do”; “Be”; and “See”. Some topic subjects are accompanied by video, and others are accompanied by Ms. Paltrow’s preface, and expanded upon by other celebrities whether they be singers, activists, or health leaders etc… While Ms. Paltrow’s blog is not heavy on visual stimulation (which actually may be the reason for the sites calming effect-and her color choices) and posting frequently(about once per week), it still is very appealing. Why? Because it gives you ideas on having a good life in many different areas of life. She also provides a feature where you can subscribe to her “newsletter” (really a “post” in disguise) to keep abreast of her current musings. Isn’t that really what we want, ideas for a good life sent directly to our e-mail?

Summers, Volcker and Rubin all are possible candidates to lead the Treasury under Obama, according to the Journal report.

Separately, Democrats plan to convene a lame-duck session of Congress the week of Nov. 17, when Obama and other lawmakers are expected to consider the proposed economic stimulus package. The new Congress is scheduled to take office on Jan. 3.

In February, amid early indications of the economic difficulties to be faced by the U.S., Congress passed an initial, $168 billion stimulus package that was delivered in the form of tax rebates worth up to $600 for most individual taxpayers and $1,200 for familes.

Obama D-Ill., as the first sitting senator to be elected president since John F. Kennedy in 1960, is in a position to influence, as well as vote on, any stimulus package that the current or new Congress, which will have larger Democratic majorities, creates before Inauguration Day.

Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., and his opponent, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., also will be able to vote on any stimulus legislation.

While Congress works on a stimulus bill, the Bush administration will be working until the last minute to revive the financial sector and to coordinate its response with the other major economies. Obama’s role in those efforts is likely to be indirect at best.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., spoke with Obama on Wednesday morning and indicated she was working closely with his team. Pelosi said the stimulus package could be worth up to $100 billion and should be followed by a “permanent tax cut,” according to the Journal report.

“Our priorities have tracked the Obama campaign’s priorities for a long time,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday.

When he takes the oath on Jan. 20, Obama will inherit a financial crisis and a potentially deep U.S. recession as well as struggling auto and banking sectors.

Obama’s team may also have some input on shaping the execution of the plan to buy up bad assets from financial institutions. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson reportedly plans to involve the president-elect’s team in decisions about the $700 billion rescue plan. Paulson said in a statement on Thursday that Treasury is “committed to making sure that the incoming team can hit the ground running in January.”

“A methodical and orderly transition is in the best interests of the financial markets,” Paulson said.

Some Democrats are concerned that banks getting an injection of taxpayer investment under the plan aren’t using the money to make loans. Under the rules adopted by Paulson’s department, the banks aren’t required to make any loans. A similar investment plan in the United Kingdom did include a mandatory level of lending.

Global summit

Meanwhile, a White House spokesman said Bush administration officials are consulting with Obama’s advisers and seeking their views and input ahead of the Nov. 14-15 summit of the leaders of 20 leading economies in Washington. The meeting’s purpose is to discuss a coordinated response to the global financial crisis.

While the Bush administration is consulting with Obama’s team, it’s uncertain if the president-elect wants to attend the meeting. Obama spokespeople weren’t immediately available for comment.

Obama’s ability to make policy is limited until he takes office. But Obama can have psychological effect by making strong appointments for key economic posts or urging Congress to get moving on his priorities, said Stan Collender, a managing director at Qorvis Communications and a columnist for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call.

“If he got up and said, ‘this is what we should do,’ I think people in Congress would listen to him,” said Collender.

In addition to the Friday meeting with his economic team, Obama also plans to meet with President Bush on Monday. Bush said officials from his administration will brief the Obama team on policy issues including the financial markets and the war in Iraq.

“I look forward to discussing those issues with the president-elect early next week,” Bush said on Thursday.

“Michelle and I look forward to meeting with President Bush and the First Lady on Monday to begin the process of a smooth, effective transition,” Obama said in a statement.

“I thank him for reaching out in the spirit of bipartisanship that will be required to meet the many challenges we face as a nation,” said Obama.
